CURRENT SCHEDULE
Expect a new video every Wednesday and Sunday at 11AM Central!
How Farms Work by Ryan Kuster is a UA-cam channel based in rural Potosi, Wisconsin. Our mission is to teach those who didn't grow up on a farm what the farming life is like. These videos show the Kuster family working together raising cattle and crops. We believe everyone who wants to know more about farming should be able to share the farming experience with us and we look to educate the world on many essential agriculture topics.
How Farms Work takes place on ~1,100 acres with around 75-200 cattle at any given time. Four John Deere tractors are currently used on the farm, which are a 4020, 4640, 7600, and 8235R.
Farm Hands:
Karl
One of the reasons why I have stopped watching some other farming channels but still watch yours is because your channel is down to earth and real. Your priorities are great!
It’s your channel and you run it how you see fit man. The farm and family is always number one, the channel should always be for the love of it.
Hey Ryan!! Take care of yourself and your family, everything else is secondary. Us long time viewers will always be here for you.
Ryan, keep doing YOU! I watch your videos because they are DIFFERENT than what others are doing, but yet you are highlighting the farming community. It works for me! Having Hannah share in your endeavors and share her perspective on things, I am finding it joyful to watch as your marriage and your farm mature. This is how farms work. You are doing it!
Ryan, I’ve been a longtime subscriber who fully appreciates each and every video you’ve published. In watching this particular video, the first thing that came to mind was a sweet young girl that stole your heart about two years ago. Life, shared values and priorities change once married. Once those little bundle of joys enter the equation, it all changes again.
I’ve always wanted to be, at the very least, a hobby farmer however the good Lord had other plans for me and the electronics path my life took. The electronics ride was great (now almost 80 years old) and I thoroughly appreciated it. I live through you and other UA-cam personalities the dream that wasn’t to be. Thanks and I hope you can see your way clear to continue to produce great content.
If you want true happiness put:
God first
Wife and family second
Work third
Friends fourth
Ryan, I am 74 years old and retired for quite a few years. The most consistent happiness I got in my working life came from my job, I built things. Bridges and highways my first third, custom homes and commercial medical facilities the middle third and hospitals for my grand finale. I loved all of them and miss each one. Your family gives you happiness and your job is the thing you spend your most time doing. Anything after those two things is a hobby, it has to be fun too, not work. You are by far the best UA-cam creator I watch, and I consistently follow four farmers. Keep it fun and cut back if that’s where happiness lies with you and Hannah.
You are doing a GREAT job Ryan Don't get down on yourself. I am NOT a farmer but watching you has taught me SO many things about farming I never knew. I grew up in a small farming town in Ohio and worked with my uncle in summer baling hay. Farming has improved so much over the past 60 years. I REALLY enjoy your videos SO informative .
Make your videos because you want to share what farmers do and offer a glimpse into that life. They are both informative and entertaining. I have learned a lot by watching you and the quality of the video content is excellent. Thank you Ryan and family for what you do! 😊
You’re a stand up guy Ryan. I really enjoy your videos. I say you are living a dream in what you’re doing “farming”.
I watch several farmers on UA-cam. I enjoy your unique approach.
Keep doing your thing
Thanks for the candid discussion, I think you're on the right track.
Ryan, continue doing what you enjoy.
Ryan, I've been watching your content for quite a few years. You're a exemplary farmer, i enjoy your content, and its never been disappointing. You keep it very educational when it comes down to stuff you're learning, and you're sharing it with us, your subscribers. Keep up the good work. Hit it hard and, something one of my fellow firefighters on our dept told me when i joined. He told me, "Nothing less than excellenc, this means you." I think you've nailed it sir. Keep given er hell. God bless you
Ryan my parents were farming in the 1990 and before we were wheat and barley crops and Hereford cattle on the farm and thank you for what corn education you and your family do a great work
This old man (non farmer) has really enjoyed learning from you and your family…thank you for sharing your story with us. You and your lovely wife are in my family’s prayers.
Ryan, I think you do a great job telling a good farming story.
I like how you have paced the videos and extended time between them when you need the space. I cannot imagine the grind to shoot and edit videos and do a day job.
Ryan, I have been a subscriber since you started your channel. My most favorite thing about your channel for me has been your photography and drone shots. You live in a beautiful agricultural area and you do a wonderful job of capuring scenes. You have a real eye for scenery that I am sure other subscribers enjoy as well.Just keep working on your three goals and I am sure you will find continued success!
FYI: I enjoy your videos, and, admire your priorities/train of thought! Stay you.
I have always looked at youtube videos as either entertainment or informative. Way back when you did the episode on how to fill a grease gun I thought, wow this kid knows what people want to see. Been a fan a long time and still think you do the best drone.
I have relatives in Lancaster.. They don't know you personally, but are very proud that you are representing the farming area. You have a huge amount of quiet, very positive, support.
Keep doing it the way you love you and Travis are about the only ones I still watch
I hope I fall in the enjoyable side of your life lol. I sure enjoyed meeting you and your family.
Thanks for the video. Please keep doing videos the way you enjoy doing them. They really are in a special league, when it comes to photography and quality, compared to other farming channels, that just keeps pumping out YT fluff. Kudos for your focus on your mental health. Not many people pick up on the signs that "this is not good for you" and have the courage to do something about it. All the best to you and your family. Take care.
I've been a subscriber since 2012 or 2013. I always liked your content because of the quality and how genuine it was. I always learn something. Excellent as always, greetings from Argentina!
Do what you have to do. Many of us will support you regardless what you decide.
Love your videos. There is always something to learn about farming and marriage! Glad you are doing what is important to you, Hannah and the farm. Keep up the good work. 👍👍👍
Youngman you n your family are doing a great job.Thank you for that
Ryan I enjoy your videos for all the reasons that you said that I might. Your videos are unique and special because you are controlling the contents as to your likes and dislikes. I agree with you as to what makes a good video. That's why I watch and will continue to watch.
Do what you feel is best for you Ryan. Been watching you since the beginning. You are right, it is a grind, but yours and your family's happiness takes priority. You are a wonderful man, husband, father when the time is right and farmer. Will keep watching whenever you post. Personally, I have learned a lot from your videos. Originally found you when I was looking around for videos on how combines work.
Really enjoy all of your content along with you brothers channel. Always wait anxiously for the next video.
great video ryan as always
I've been following you since the early days, have always loved your content and that you seem to just keep it 'real'. Keep doing what you need to for you and Hannah, and if you post videos we'll watch them :)
Just go on being you Ryan, and take care of yourself and yours.
Thanks for the videos, now and before. Let them serve as the last of your three areas that you focus on. You have a wife & family, the farm, which serves as your main source of income, so keep doing what you are doing that has made the past 2 years so good for you. Keep it that way. You are excelling in all three areas, so keep it as to what is best for you! Take care.
Sounds like you live like I do - "life on life's terms" - Rock on brother - thanks for sharing - love your videos!
Definitely no reason to be miserable. I know I sure don't want that for you. I've been watching you since u first started and it has always been great. I definitely understand what you want for yourself and I think you are absolutely right.
Thanks for posting! It’s great to hear about your story and how you are setting your priorities.
Thanks for everything Ryan.
The best of luck and I like your idea of what is best for you and your family and I hope you continue on a path that works for you
Thank you
Hey Ryan great video as always!! I have been watching your videos for the last ten years love them ,very informative and entertaining but take care of yourself and your wife first and put out the videos you want. I will always watch them
Do your videos the way you want, with the content you want, and at the frequency you want. I watch your videos as I want to learn more about farming and have learned a whole lot since I started watching multiple farming channels.
If you don't feel like turning the camera on, just don't do it, film whenever you feel like it. Family time and personal health are way more important than that UA-cam stuff. I've been a subscriber for about 9 years now, and your videos are always informative and enjoyable to watch.
Please don't take UA-cam too serious, your real viewers are always here whenever you post a video, we won't judge you on anything.
As always, thank you for the video, I'm looking forward to corn harvest👍
Ryan I can name a couple very successful UA-camrs that don't prescribe to the algorithm. So you just do you and I think you'll be surprised. And after all I feel the majority of us that's all we want. Great video as usual keep em coming!
You do you, sweetheart. Your fans will always be here.
I really enjoy your content Ryan. Today is finally raining 🍻 we’ve been really dry the last few weeks.
Boy Dude, I got vibes of children of the corn from this video. 🙂 Yeah sounds like it's time to get to work and harvest that there corn. I think you are happier because you have a Wife now and hopefully she is allowing you to have peace in you all's house/castle. She definitely seems like a good woman. And if she doesn't see these comments very often, show her this one, it should make BOTH of you feel good. Be good to each other and your families. Peace out. 🙂
Hello Ryan. Thank you for your content. You need to do what is right for you and your family. Again thank you.
Thanks Ryan!
I think your on the right track! Take care of yourself first!
Your videos and content are awesome, thanks for sharing. I guess your viewers are a different breed than mainstream UA-cam viewers, I think you're fine with that...
Love the content, regardless of what it is. Make what you want to make, regardless of the algo. I'm not a farmer, but find it quite informative as to this critical aspect of our nation's economy. Sensible set of priorities you laid out. Hope that harvest goes well for you there, and for all farmers for that matter.
Many years ago I took a psychology class. One thing thet stuck was me was this phrase. "You are not who your are, you are not who you think you are, you are what think other people think you are." Platforms like YT promote this kind of thinking, focusing on you trying to be what you think others want you to be. I don't see it with you, even more with thsi video. Just keep making content, the crowd that matters will follow.
Lindo video! Ya pronto la cosecha! 👍🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼🙋🏻♂️🙋🏻♂️🙋🏻♂️🙋🏻♂️🚜🚜🚜🚜
I have always liked your videos, and you have made them without my advice! and it Works. I believe in you. Just a thought 'be who you are' the rest will work it self out. PS: the herd seems to have mellowed over the years. No doubt a tribute to your approach to the tasks at hand. Just saying.
Another great video
It is YOUR farm and YOUR life......Not UA-cam's!
Great video as always, how many cows do y’all have this year?
72 that could be bred, I have 158 on the farm right now
@@HowFarmsWork thanks Ryan
thank you
Hilltops; the wind parches the soil and also the drainage effect of being high ground.
Thankfully the corn is drying down a lot better than last year.
I’m older than you Ryan, it doesn’t make me smarter, or better. What I can tell you with 100% certainty. Happiness is a choice. Choose wisely! And quit buying sale barn bulls! 😂
Ryan, family and farm first. The rest will follow.
Good video, Ryan. I like your videos and your content and how you talk about the business side farming. I hope you keep doing videos and as many as you feel comfortable doing. I always look forward to a new video from you. But there are a lot of UA-camrs that seem to fall into that area of just popping out as many videos as they can and it looks like they’re killing themselves trying to do it. I guess there’s money to be made and if you look at it if I can do this for 10 years and make a bunch of money they’re going to do it I guess. I’m not sure if you’re familiar with vice grip garage but I watch his channel. And it’s turned into a monster and it seems like even when he talks about what he’s has to do he looks burnt out and talks about being burnt out. It’s kind of sad from where it started where it was kind of fun and now just a 7 day grind that he’s trying to make money and somehow still find time for his wife and kids. Hope corn is going well!
Taking care of wife, family is one of the most important things we do. Lost wife 8.5 years ago. Nothing will make one a better person them God first, wife/family second.
Good video, ESPECIALLY THE PERSONAL STUFF. It seems to me that more and more people making videos chasing a dream or what ever. Be true to yourself.
please be yourself!
I have a sacred music channel (as that's what my college degree is in). I went into last month with videos scheduled a few weeks ahead. Then, my toddler started bringing home a different bug every week and I haven't posted a video in over a month. I have some stuff recorded, but it still needs to be edited (syncing audio and video/images).
On that channel, I know there's no point to chasing the algorithm. It's a niche topic, so any growth is coming from people deliberately searching it out.
I don't want to chase the algorithm when I start putting stuff on my "Musical Farmer" channel either.
just wait till you have a child that's hell trying to raise one and farm and u-tube all at the same time. i give a big hand shake like SCOTT AKA legarms with 3 kids and NICK with 4 and BOB the dad. TONY from FAST AG same way hats off to them.
If you can more info on drone uses other than spraying, like photography would be nice. Plus it could be a income stream for you.
Is there a reason you did not control the grass in the corn?
How is obtaining data from the USDA a conflict of interest?
Ryan I forgot to say that I am from Manatoba Canada
Glad you’re back after a while. I thought you took a long break without telling us.
Farmers and veterinarians be like highest suicide rate for real.
Hey Ryan what ever you and Travis wants to post I will be here. When you get tired of posting the whole family will be missed. You and Hannah were brought together by JESUS. as Betty and me. If you will Pray together with Hannah make it a trio. JESUS first Hannah, and You. Everything want be a bed of roses but the joy over comes the bad. Take Care, Take it Easy and Trust JESUS!!!!!!!!!!
If you like the northern lights, watch some videos taken from our space. That's cool
Big Trick Is Hire Out Editing
👍👍❤🌾🌱🐂
If you really want to be happy then you need to put:
God first
Wife and kids second
Work third
Friends fourth
Do the U Tube as it fits into your schedule! And take time to smell the roses!
Take care of yourself and your family first. The farming will fall Into p,ace and be more enjoyable.
Hopefully sooner or later you will be able to put you tube in 4th with children being in second
