    I used to play cricket when I was in junior school. My brand new bat broke and parents said they won't be getting me a new bat anytime soon. So I tried baseball, with a friend who had a kit.
    Baseball to be honest felt more fun.
    But as I grew up, it slowly began to clear up that cricket is more of a strategy and patience game, with the different tweaks and touches that you can give to a ball while bowling makes it difficult to judge how or where the ball's going to go.
    Bowling and batting changes dramatically if wind is blowing or dew sets in. The different surfaces of the pitches of different geographical locations makes predicting the movement of ball even more difficult. Humidity and roughness of ground changes the amount a ball swings or spins.
    That being said, I switched completely to soccer later. Big ball game (pun intended).

    If you're a sports fan or have ever played a sport at a professional level, you wouldn't compare sports or disgrace them. You know the amount of training and effort it takes to play at a professional level. Those who disrespect other sports or players are usually keyboard warriors and toxic people who've never played any sport professionally

      I couldn’t agree more! Most people that try to do the comparison couldn’t even compete at a semi pro level at their best sport. There’s different levels to each sport and what it takes to be a professional. That’s whT makes sports so great in our opinion and why we have taken the time to try and learn sports that are new to us

    7:28 "Regarding Catching" here i am going to do teaching of a little science stuff to Baseball players.. In baseball your 85%-90% of catches are vertically parabolic trajectory, because of shape of your Bat.. Your fields stand far away from Batter..In cricket the catches are very fast and 65% of the times Horizontal to the ground the reaction time of those catches are less than 1-2 seconds.. so even if you want, can't use gloves, except one used by #Keeper behind wickets..
    Also the parabolic catches need practice to use hand movements downwards to avoid big impact in your Palm.. so practical except Keeper.. no one require or should use the gloves.. 🙂🙂

    Great discussion boys , Firstly I’m an Aussie cricket nut like you are with baseball. These sports are totally different sports and the only likeness is both have a bat and a ball . Cricket has strategies depending on how the game is progressing. Making singles to keep the scoreboard ticking over or go the full on slog to get run’s quickly if your running out of time or overs . Field placements is important depending on where the bowler bowls to a batsmen ie : legside / offside , bowling from over the wicket ( left hand side of the stumps for a right arm bowler ) or Bowling around the wicket ( right hand side of the wickets for a right arm bowler ). So there’s a variation of tactics they can use to against certain batsmen . Admittedly I don’t know a lot about baseball tactics but it seems to me hit the ball out of the park for a home run . In cricket that would be 6 runs and he keeps batting . Chalk n cheese. Much respect for both sports and players 😊

    • @RealFansSports
      @RealFansSports  5 місяців тому +7

      This is the most reasonable response! Appreciate you watching! And yeah there’s definitely more strategy to playing baseball than what we portrayed and Ofcourse more than home runs. But I think from a technical standpoint cricket has a more strategic basis to it especially test

    First, the length between the bowler and batter. The distance between the wickets is 20.12m/66 feet, the distance between the popping creases is 17.68m/58 feet.
    The popping crease is the line where some of the bowler's front foot must be behind when he delivers the ball, and it is around where the batter will stand. Many start right on that line, some start completely behind, and quite a few will start forward of the line, sometimes by quite a way.
    The baseball home plate is 18.39m/66.5 feet from the pitcher's plate, but the pitcher will step forward for his release. So the actual distance is around the same, maybe a bit longer in baseball.
    A quick search says that there are 75 countries that play baseball.
    There are 104 members (countries) in the International Cricket Council (ICC).
    The speed of the ball in cricket is generally slower than baseball, and the ball slows down considerably when it pitches. However, when it pitches it can do some crazy things - deviate sideways, stay low or bounce more than expected. This does not apply in baseball, where all the movement has to be in the air. Also, the most successful bowlers in Test cricket bowled, normally, between 50mph and 60mph.
    With the Sports Science comparison, I doubt that the cricketer was at the same level in his sport as the baseballer was. And the measure of "getting the ball in play" is meaningless in cricket, since the ball is in play whether he hits it or not.
    In Cricket outs are rare. In Baseball runs are rare. In the show, the baseballer had little control over where the ball went, and may have been caught out several times.
    A number of former Australian cricketers would play baseball in the off-season. This was a period, in the 1960s and 1970s, where Cricket wasn't truly professional, and there wasn't the busy schedules of today.

    • @RealFansSports
      @RealFansSports  5 місяців тому +2

      So your beginning points just makes it more even. In baseball the change of direction of a ball being pitched actually changes a good bit. So again very similar. Based off the episodes I’ve watched of the show they grab very average joe guys to test out theories now I would guess that the baseball player is a little better in comparison but not by a bunch. And the fact that cricket players play baseball during the off season in small leagues is really irrelevant in the comparison. Baseball players don’t do that because there’s no reason to financially. So a lot of this just simplifies the fact that the sport is incomparable and equal in difficulty and what’s better

    The safety argument for gloves is all well and good and acceptable. But the point the original video does not talk about when it comes to why it is easier to catch a ball, no matter how fast or slow it is is the increase in surface area for catching. The webbing in a baseball glove is at least a palm size bigger than an actual hand; in cricket, the fingers also play a role which the gloves in baseball eliminate. As far as the gloves a wicketkeeper uses, yes that's safety and it is not for catching enhancement, so yes I will give the point there when it comes to saying we support safety. I am not trying to trash baseball here but claiming free-hand catching a ball that comes in full, especially within the 30-yard circle is not very different simply because the ball in baseball might travel faster and hence the gloves are needed is super delusional as the cricket ball isn't made of a material like sponge. As far as bowling and pitching speed goes, the pitch distance goes, there are super fundamental differences that the video does not talk about at all. Bowling is fundamentally different from throwing as the hands have to be continuous with no jerking motion. Hence the speed is not going to be super quick and yes on release it will be around 130-140kph on average for a fast bowler, which in raw pace terms is most times slower than a baseball pitch. The ball in cricket rarely comes in full, especially at the waist height. It bounces off a wicket, and the rotational motion of the ball when the bowler releases, hits the wickets and can do things on contact that is very unpredictable that you probably have to first judge what the bowler does on release and what the ball does on hitting the pitch, so basically two degrees of freedom that you need to pick on visuals apart from the air resistance and fluid dynamics of the ball and air. So when it comes to baseball, the pitching motion of the pitcher and the ball-air interaction are two common things with cricket, but the ball-pitch interaction is a totally different beast that the video presenter does not talk about. I mean if he speaks so much on sports science when it comes to bat sizes, why does he not talk about the unknown of ball-pitch interaction? For simple testing, take a tennis ball and bounce it 10 times, it will not react the same way all 10 times if you change something small, which is essentially what cricket brings to the table. Yes, a bowler who bowls spin can pitch the ball so far away from the stumps and still spin it into the stumps, which the batsman should be ready for whereas in baseball if the pitch is not within the square you are more than able to judge that earlier and leave it. So there are differences which does not make one better or worse, but saying everything is NOT TRUE is fundamentally the lamest argument that can made.
    Cricket is the 2nd most played sport across the world, with ICC the sporting body having more than 100 members, and fun true fact is that the ICC T20 World Cup that is jointly hosted by West Indies and the USA next year has not only a USA team participating but also a team from Uganda playing after qualifying out of a qualifying tournament held in Africa where more than 15 African countries participated. Test cricket is played by 11-12 countries which is what the video presenter most likely made his argument based on when he said "played in a few countries with huge population". Italy, Germany, Finland, Canada, Papua New Guinea, Japan, South Korea, etc all have a registered cricket national team. Afghanistan plays test cricket, and it is the first non-British colony in Asia to get the test status. So barring FIFA and soccer no team sport is officially represented by more than 100 countries at the international level.

    • @RealFansSports
      @RealFansSports  5 місяців тому +4

      I completely agree with that. That’s why I made sure to mention it because it was a very fundamental difference between baseball pitching and cricket bowling. You are spot on with that!

    I cringed watching this. But compelled to comment anyway. For all intents and purposes, the "pitch" in cricket and baseball is the same up until the point the ball bounces. In baseball, skilled pitchers can swing the ball and make it move insanely through the air. Same in cricket. Swing bowling. But in cricket it is considered "easy as pie" to hit a ball that doesn't bounce. You are expected to hit it out of the park - in other words, the challenge is not in hitting the ball, but in hitting the ball after it bounces. When the ball bounces, there are a number of things that can/do happen. The ball hits an uneven/worn surface (dry grass/dirt) with imperfections. The ball may be spinning rapidlly (spin bowlers), or positioned with the seam upright (seam bowlers). In both these cases, the ball can deviate wildly - in many cases several degrees (5-6 is common). That's a huge deviation when the ball bounces a few metres from you. Furthermore, the bowler (=pitcher) is allowed to try and hit your body/head. So given the baseball/cricket ball are approximately the same hardness (I've read the cricket ball is slightly harder, but give or take) - and about the same size - and roughly the same speed (again, give or take)... the problem is that the baseballer pretty much knows the ball will be in a certain "zone" whereas the cricketer has no idea. It could be aimed at his/her head, groin, the wickets, their toes (sandshoe crusher) or anywhere else. Reaction time in baseball is getting the bat to where the ball is. Reaction time in cricket is moving your whole body to avoid being hurt, and being in position to play a shot. I played first-slip, which is a catching position near the wicketkeeper, just to the side. I was good at it. No gloves, and catching a deviation off the bat, barehanded, in fractions of a second is something baseballers will not have experienced. I consider baseballers highly skilled. But a comparison where you put an unknown bowler *bowling indoors* at low speed to a baseballer swinging for the hills is kinda silly. Put the baseballwer in front of a bowling machine, if you must, and see how well they hit the ball then. And, by the way, consider most of the "in the air" shots as caught out! Anyway, baseball has its skilled players no doubt about it; the outfielders are phenomenal throws for example. It doesn't have to be either-or. I just hope people learning about cricket actually take the time to watch a T20 game, or highlights thereof. It's a really enjoyable sport with, I believe, some of the most skilled professional players in any sport.

    In cricket a pitch that doesn't hit the ground first is called a full toss and is hit out of the park by any vaguely competent batsman. I played in a competition barely higher than school boy level and failing to score off a full toss was something your team mates reminded you of for years.

    in cricket for pitch total length = 20.12 m
    distance between stumps & line of play = 1.23 m So on both side = 2 x 1.23 = 2.46 m
    So total length between a batsman stands & bowler bowls will be 20.12 - 2.46 = 17. 66 m
    means cricket pitch is shorter than baseball bowling length (18.44 m ).

    I went to two MLB when I visited the USA. One was in St Louis to watch the Cardinals, which was tied at several runs each (I can't recall exactly how many) at the end of the 8th inning, which is when we had to leave.
    The other game was at Baltimore watching the Orioles, where both teams struggled to make a base hit until late in the game when one of them got a run. That was much more tedious.
    The pace of play was roughly the same as Test Match, maybe slightly faster. Not exactly racing through the match.
    The other thing is that MLB teams play 150+ games each in a season. And, as I understand it, they will play the same opposition for a few days in a row in a series. That is sort of like a Test Match, though it is several.
    And another thought, baseball seems to be a more domestic game, with the best matches in leagues. Whereas cricket, traditionally, is more of an international sport, where national teams play against each other regularly. Though this is changing a bit with new league tournaments, like the IPL.

(I don't think the creator even really watched a single game of cricket ngl)
    And the video which you were watching eveything was acceptable until it came to gloves. I remember playing in a winter morning and taking a catch at the slip (red SG ball). My two fingers cracked, remained swollen for almost a month. And the wicket-keeper has to take the same damn ball after every two or three deliveries, still their fingers get broke and get plastered, not like a baseball keeper knowing where the ball is exactly coming wearing a f**king armor.

    There is a long history of cricket in the USA. The first international game of cricket was between the USA and Canada in 1844 in Manhattan. Cricket was reasonably popular in the US before the Civil War. There were even professional cricketers playing. During the Civil War most organised sport ceased and when it recommenced after the war baseball had become the dominant sport. I am looking forward to the ICC T20 World Cup being played in the West Indies and the US, and the future of Major League Cricket. Bro there are many conditions in cricket
    The pitch - if the pitch is green (which has bit of grass) the ball will skid and moves faster (which is harder to bat) and if the pitch is dry (the ball stops and comes to bat) the ball will spin very well (both conditions are tough to bat)
    The swing - there are physics behind this , so they try to rough one side and smooth the other side
    Which swings and the reverse swing
    Test match (5 days match) - this format will test your fitness, so you have to hold and play for 5 days in hot weather
    Note - many people have died and hardly injured playing cricket
    Ex- Phillips Hughes (aus cricketer) he has died when a bouncer hits his head
    And wicket keeper only have gloves because if batsman leaves the ball (which coming at 140+) he can't catch the ball barehanded
    So only for wicket keeper the gloves are allowed
    (Cricket ball are generally harder)
    So make comparison properly

    All acknowledged subject experts and authorities agree that there is no evidence of cricket having evolved from another bat-and-ball sport and, equally, no evidence that any other bat-and-ball sport evolved from cricket.
    One popular theory is that Baseball is loosely based on the game rounders, another bat and ball game, which is popular in England and Ireland. Rounders had been played in both countries for centuries, with the GAA in Ireland first creating formal rules for the game in 1884.
    and both games baseball and cricket were invented in england
    the glove thing in baseball i would love it if they lost the extra large gloves and go bear handed.
    understand the catcher having a glove but not the fielders.
    in cricket the only person wearing gloves is the keeper but the gloves do not pass the end of his/her fingers they are like normal gloves with a little padding with a webbing between thumb and index finger.
    the fielders do not have gloves that makes fielding 10x harder to catch a ball.

    • @RealFansSports
      @RealFansSports  5 місяців тому

      Not disagreeing with anything you say, but also have to take into consideration that more than just the catcher has to catch a ball thats being throwin 80-90mph. obviously in baseball 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and catcher all have to catch a ball for outs that are thrown at high velocity. The gloves used to be a lot smaller back in the day but i think due to injuries they changed it to where it is now.
      in saying all that i would much rather a glove than bare hands because i could only imagine how much that would hurt and the difficulty so big ups to them. definitely impressive.

      neither are a childish game and in the video whenever this was made the max a bowler has bowled wasnt even that fast. (although that could of changed since this vid was made). the speed doesnt really double either. it does increase depending on the speed of the bat swing and the contact, but the same with baseball so thats irrelevant. Also have to remember more than just the catcher has balls thrown at him at a rate between 80-95mph because 1st 2nd and 3rd basemen are also needed to get a player out.

    In regards to popularity, its extremely hard to judge, there's definitely more junior leagues in baseball than in cricket because the money is there to organise them, but there is still gonna be thousands of Indian and Pakistani kids playing cricket whenever they can, just not in a organised setting, less in other cricketing nations but still some, every so often at school or in the summer. Amateur league games are probably rarer in cricket too since most people are going to play a different more popular game instead like football or rugby. But in terms of numbers of fans there has to be half a billion fans in India alone, so when you add Pakistan, Australia, New Zealand, United Kingdom, South Africa, Afghanistan, Zimbabwe, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, 10 or 15 countries in the West Indies and all the other nations with associate membership to the ICC.
    I admit I don't know every nation that plays baseball but America is definitely the biggest and you aren't going to get the same number of fans as India and Pakistan

    Loved this reaction and done well. Cheers lads. Only one I cant agree with is the glove. In cricket, if a keeper goes for what you'd class as a fly ball, we take the piss out of them for weeks if they drop it. Lol. Also, with the catchers masks, if a keeper stands up (right behind the stumps) they always wear a helmet and I've noticed more and more keepers wearing sinilar to catchers masks

    Imagine in baseball if it was perfectly legal for the pitcher to try and hit you with the ball, and there were no consequences (you and your team just accept it as part of the game - you need to be good enough not to get hit). And further imagine if you missed the ball in the strikezone, even just once, you were out... and you only got one "at bat" for the entire game. And everyone fields without gloves, except for the catcher. Not a 100% analogy, but good enough. Both games require different skills, but no doubt about it... cricket is a challenging sport!

As far as that comment goes, thats why we both mentioned throughout the video that some of it was not valid because there examples weren't great of what the actual game is like. As far as this comment goes i could give the exact same "imagine if cricket only had *this*" They have their own things that make it different and easier or harder. Thats the point of the video. They are both completely different sports the only similarity is hitting a ball with a bat.

    In Cricket it's involved more skills, strategies, stamina, reflexes. I don't know where from this guy got the average speed bowling factors Cricket fastest bowl is recorded 101.3 mph by Shoaib Akhtar. Like baseball bowlers cricket bowlers are not allowed to bend there 💪 arm while bowling so you can imagine how fast they can go if they bend arm's like baseball ball throw. In cricket full ball is easiest considered ball so bowlers bowl on hard length, swing, spinning, seaming. Baseball only swing.

      I agree the assessment in the beginning wasnt very reasonable. Im not sure if either of the people were pros though. And to say that a baseball batsman would 100% be out by a true bowler basically negates your first remark that a professional cricket player would hit a baseball pitch. It is statistically facts that it easier to hit a cricket ball just based off of how high the scores go up to. That's why in cricket you have players that will bring in 100 runs in a singular at bat. In baseball the average hit percentage is just 25% and based off of google it says cricket average for T20 is about 30.
      Regardless the point remains that the debate over which is better is subjective. They are 2 different sports with their own challenges/skill sets and their own unique things that make them great.

      I agree with most of this. It is an unfair comparison due to no conditions, but to think that a baseball player couldnt touch a cricket bowl is ignorant. the bat is over double as wide and the ball comes in slower. The baseball pitcher also was not professional. There are advantages and disadvantages in both sports. That is why it is not comparable because there are to many what ifs. I could explain more if you would like, but I feel, because of your bias, it would not matter. Both sports are difficult and both have their own degree of skill sets that are needed in order to be a professional at their respected sport.

The cricket gloves they mention are for the wicket keepers as they are in line of the fast bowl the same as the guy behind the guy with the baseball bat. Cricket games last for days with few breaks whereas baseball is far shorter espn again forget cricket tests last 5 days in each country and the 20/20 is a lil Summer game added in !! Theres real skill in each no doubt 👍 put a baseball guy with a baseball at the stumps and hel hit F all hes bowled at as its too much, but then cricketers at the base for the baseball will look stupid too 😂 both are quality but espn does cricket dirty trying to over sell and over hype baseball outside the US.
