What I love about this channel - the fact that titling these videos with "Bass Cover" is a great injustice. Some of them truly are covers but for those who aren't aware, this particular video is a complete reimagining of the song, with a stank bassline that doesn't actually exist in the original song. The talent here is staggering to a.) create a bassline from scratch that compliments the song so well that you would have no idea it wasn't part of the original song and would, instead, just say "geez, this song has such a great bassline", and b.) to actually *play* that incredible bassline.
It's a true version of a "cover". So many people just copy a song when they make a cover, note for note, that's not a true cover, it's an impersonation. I admire her ability to use her talent and skill to make amazing tributes to the musicians she loves. Julia, you blow my mind every time I hear you play. Thank you for sharing!!!
This bassline is not created from scratch though but rather reworked and improved, it's similar to the original one. You can hear the original bassline better on bass boosted version of the song.
Vida Talab I totally agree! I was gonna skip it when I saw the artist she was covering but glad I clicked on the video. Such a clean bass cover, so smooth! 😎
@Linda Harrell Thank you for the heads up. I’ve just watched it and yep, she’s lost in the moment for sure. I love the song so it was a double pleasure.
What I really love about your playing (in addition to your killer tone, amazing groove, and musicality), is the way you always support the melody. There are so many flashy bassists out there, but your lines always support the song and the singer first. Great work and keep it up!
This could have been totally "over played".. constant bass soloing for the whole thing and it just would have ruined it.. but instead you absolutely nailed it - I was so impressed when you kept it simple and classy in the beginning and then just added all these tasty embelishments and grooves to it, masterful! so nice seeing the grin when you nailed that bit at 1:34 too ;) keep it up! subbed.
WOW Julia, you must be a deepfake ;-) Your timing, dexterity and natural groove reminds me of players twice your age. I'm in awe of your talent, every upload you post gets my head knodding uncontrollably. I'd never even heard the "Ariana Grande - break up" track before listening to you jamming all over it. I wish you all the best if this is your chosen career and am amazed you haven't been head hunted by some talent scout, studio etc as you really do have that special gift and some.
I know these videos tend to get views based on the song choice and what's popular at the time, but the fact that this video only has 400K views is crazy to me. I'm a learning guitar player, but Julia will impress and amaze me forever. Bass is way cooler to me.
