Sorry about the loss of audio from 2.38 to 2.54! Something must have happened on the upload. It basically consisted of Jade - "so we're 1 hour 30 into the journey and Brynn already wants snacks " Brynn - 'I'm hungry" Hope you enjoyed the crossing so far! 😊 We're currently resting up in North Spain - soon to be moving again.
I'm a bit late catching up with your channel. I'm active duty US military and have been chasing a dream recently to save money to buy a sailboat to circumnavigate when I get done with my contract. I know nothing about sailing, I'm terrified of the ocean, but I'm pretty damn headstrong about pursuing my dreams. I'm super glad to see channels like yours, Sam Holmes, Sailing Triteia and the like who I can learn and get inspiration from. Took ages of scrolling through the hundreds of trust-fund TY sailors to find a channel like yours - down to earth, real people - who I can learn from who aren't just trying to glamorize the life. Your stuff is salty, hilarious, real, and I love it. I really appreciate your videos and look forward to watching more.
That's awesome to hear about your plans and dream of circumnavigating! Being headstrong, in our opinion, is what will make your plans happen! The other stuff will come with time but the biggest hurdle is always just committing and doing something brave and scary. Really appreciate your comment and kind words, hopefully we see your own adventures on here one day 😬

Another great video guys! That airhorn just reminded me of working in brum and scaring anyone who came into prep! Hope all okay with you both and look forward to seeing your next updates x
We had a big trawlingnet stuck to our prop on our way from Spain to France while motoring. It took more than 1 hour for my skinnydipping husband to cut it with a bread knife while I hauled it on board (could not leave it for the next unlucky one). He needed very warm clothes, hot drinks and a stiff whisky (otherwise a no-no while underway) before stop shivering. Needless to say he was attached with a rope during the manoeuvre. We brought the stinking net on the foredeck all the way to France.
Just awful isn't it!! Yeah we're grateful that we at least got the net onboard so noone else got stuck with it. Should be a way of tracing it to the fishing vessel. We were hoping to get in to clear it too, but the large atlantic swells were just too dangerous and didn't want to risk a head injury. Unfortunately when it calmed down was 3am in fog in a shipping lane 😭 well done to your husband for getting in and sorting it! Can imagine how cold that must've been 🥶🥶

If i remember correctly you guys had 100 liters freshwater on board, which seems like very little for 5 days out. Did you guys upgrade with more freshwater tankage or did you install a freshwater maker?
Hey Gordon, so we actually upgraded our 100 litre flexi tank to 200 litres. We also carry an extra 75 litres in water jugs. So our total is 275 but then for the crossing we also took a bunch of extra water bottles too which we shoved in the bilge and cupboards. We finished Biscay with loads of water leftover though :) freshwater maker would be awesome one day!
What a cliffhanger for next time. Hope they didn't do any damage on the boat?? Wonder why they are attacking boats there, first time I heard about it was last year. Not sure if its a new thing but I would be pretty scared if I was out there alone.
Thankfully crew and boat are all safe and sound in Spain, but in the next video you'll see it wasn't that straightforward 😭😭 It's very strange, lots of theories about why they're doing it but I don't think there's an answer yet. We're actually meeting up with an Orca researcher today, hoping she might have some ideas what's going on! It was definitely one of the scariest experiences of our lives 😯
The clamps are called NOA solar adjustable clamps. They weren't cheap but they was the best solution we could find. We have 2x 100watt renogy solar panels, they mostly are enough for everything on the boat. The only time we start to run low is when we use our laptop (very power hungry gaming laptop), in which case its still sometimes fine but if its been overcast we will run the engine 😊. Hope this answers your questions. Thanks for commenting 🤙
@@ChasingCurrents that’s great to know. I noticed that the marine suppliers overpriced panels massively (like most things). They also had a very limited selection. I was thinking about doing an LG panel myself but questioned if it would hold up under marine conditions but if you guys are fine with renogy then I thing LG will hold up. The new ones even have a 25 year lifespan and higher density. Good to know that 200 watts seems to work though so thanks for the info and happy sailing ⛵️
Currently we use GJW, they seem to know what they are talking about each time ive spoken to them on the phone so pretty happy and not to expensive either 😊
@@ChasingCurrents I love to see genuine honesty and people who actually struggle to reach this dream. And made it. Keep up. Safe seas and safe winds....
We're safe now thankfully!! It was extremely unexpected, we'll get the second part out as soon as possible. Was an eventful crossing to say the least 😂 so glad you're enjoying the videos so far 😊 xx
This is brilliant! very good Inisight to this I haven't sailed ever in my life but have been dreaming to for ages Sorry if it's rude to ask but what would be your budget to get to Spain roughly For food petrol etc And what type of boat would you recommend to buy for a beginner You look like your living rhe dream all the best for the future 😁 happy sailing ⛵️ ✌️
Thanks Dale! Glad you enjoyed 😁 To get to North Spain from Falmouth was pretty much nothing as it only took us around 5 days, just a tank of fuel and food. But in terms of South Spain, It depends on how long you're planning the journey to take. We spent a whole season making our way from North Spain to South. You can budget for time rather than distance that way, if you did it in just 2 weeks non stop it will be really cheap. If you make it last 2 months and sight see then maybe we would account for like 1000-2000. We tend to work on a budget of £500 a month, which we've mostly made work so far with some months being a lot more and some a lot less (though we are definitely on the lowest budget of people we've met!) The boat question is a really tricky one, as it all depends on your budget, comfort levels, knowledge on boat work etc. everyone will tell you different things based on their own experience and comfort levels too! From our experience, it's better to go as small as you can comfortably live on, as the prices in the Med will be drastically lower for marinas and fuel too (Plus finding a space in the many crowded anchorages). That being said, if you go slightly bigger you'll likely be more comfortable in slightly bigger seas. We personally think you can do this journey on ANY boat if it's good condition, our boat has been like a rock and never let us down and it's only 28ft. Some of our friends on bigger but newer/lighter boats have struggled more than us. A good boat is the most important thing, so find one that's well built with a reliable engine, rigging either checked/replaced recently or be willing to get this done yourself as this is super important. If you're just looking for something to get out learning on for a while you don't need to be as picky, just find something you can afford and get out there is the most important thing :) If you're planning to do some ocean crossings with this vessel then definitely really pick the right boat! If you'd like to drop us a message either on Facebook/Instagram or via email we'd be happy to help with more specific information :) All the best!
Yes I've heard that a vessel actually the Orcas bit off a piece of the rudder on a large sailboat. I'm glad you guys are ok. Love what your doing , stay safe and focused. Can't wait for the follow-up.
Yep, there's been quite a few attacks recently around here and the orcas have been targeting the rudders - scary stuff. Thanks so much, we will 😊 all our best, Jade & Brynn
Okay, here's your emergency Orca plan next time. Due to heavy overfishing the Orcas are starving. They know there are delicious morsels on small craft. They attack the craft in hopes of knocking the crew over board or sinking the craft and then consuming them. It's most unfortunate. As is often the case humans are not at the top of the food chain in the wild. So here's my suggestion: The next time you find yourself in such a situation kick Brynn as hard as you can in the balls. Firstly you repay him for getting you into this mess. Secondly he should be sufficiently incapacitated to roll him overboard to appease the Orcas while you have a chance to slip away into the night or get rescued. Foolproof!😀
Imagine playing eye spy with the boat behind for the whole journey 😂 I spy with my little eye something beginning with W. I spy with my little eye something beginning with S. yes water and sky how did you know 😂
You have already banked tales of great 'derring do' to enthral your wide eyed and open mouthed children in a few years time. I think I know what happened, none the less... remain on the edge of my seat until the next vid. Carry on!

Hey guys, what do you use to clamp your solar panels to the back bars? Also, what wattage are they and do you find this enough? Thanks 😊
@@ChasingCurrents one last thing, who do you use for insurance? Thanks 🙏🏻
Currently we use GJW, they seem to know what they are talking about each time ive spoken to them on the phone so pretty happy and not to expensive either 😊
The LG panels do seem really good, ive heard of others using them on their boats as well and being happy. I dont think you can go wrong there 👍
What software was you using which has the yellow line on?
That's the predict wind auto routing on B&G 👍
@@ChasingCurrents thank you
Great contain guys
Thank you 😁
@@ChasingCurrents I love to see genuine honesty and people who actually struggle to reach this dream. And made it. Keep up. Safe seas and safe winds....
Brilliant video
Thanks so much 😊 really glad you enjoyed!
Thank you very much. Your video was fantastic, spontaneous, organic and real
Did u not listen to any music during the trip? Just curious :D
Hey! Yes we listened to music quite a bit :) we just always pause it when filming because of copyright issues with using music in videos 👍
Omg do you know anything about sailing before you set out?
Not much 😂 we'd got about 400 nautical miles practice before we did this crossing, most of that in a small area of the Solent!
I’m a silly American.. Is “half three” 2:30 or 3:30?🤓
Half three is 3.30 😬
Orcas attacked your boat?!?! Hope everything is alright and both you and boat are all okay!! loving this content:)))xx
We're safe now thankfully!! It was extremely unexpected, we'll get the second part out as soon as possible. Was an eventful crossing to say the least 😂 so glad you're enjoying the videos so far 😊 xx
This is brilliant! very good Inisight to this I haven't sailed ever in my life but have been dreaming to for ages
Sorry if it's rude to ask but what would be your budget to get to Spain roughly
For food petrol etc
And what type of boat would you recommend to buy for a beginner
You look like your living rhe dream all the best for the future 😁 happy sailing ⛵️ ✌️
Thanks Dale! Glad you enjoyed 😁
To get to North Spain from Falmouth was pretty much nothing as it only took us around 5 days, just a tank of fuel and food. We tend to work on a budget of £500 a month, which we've mostly made work so far with some months being a lot more and some a lot less (though we are definitely on the lowest budget of people we've met!)
The boat question is a really tricky one, as it all depends on your budget, comfort levels, knowledge on boat work etc. everyone will tell you different things based on their own experience and comfort levels too!
If you'd like to drop us a message either on Facebook/Instagram or via email we'd be happy to help with more specific information :)
All the best!
Pleased you made it there in one piece.
It's not about the destination but the journey... And I'm sure there will be plenty more..
Ah thanks man, definitely gonna be a long and interesting journey. That's what it's all about 👍
Okay, here's your emergency Orca plan next time. Foolproof!😀
Your Sailors now 🌊⛵️ 😎
Enjoy the world
show us everything... Good and Bad 😜
Thanks so much, we'll show you it all 😁 wish us luck 😅😅 😁
What month was this?
I think it was June 👍
I salute your bravery sailing ⛵️ on tiny boat. Maybe you need a hammock to act as gimble bed.
Thanks so much! Yeah think you're right. Definitely will be more careful next time, got quite a bruise 😅
Imagine playing eye spy with the boat behind for the whole journey 😂 I spy with my little eye something beginning with W. I spy with my little eye something beginning with S. yes water and sky how did you know 😂
Haha love this comment 🤙😅⛵️

You no need your life jackets when you are ın boat..
We was just in a habit of having them on all the time for this passage 😊
