    Any tips or hints for me... Wanting to go overseas with my trimaran and dog from the UK.. Can either trailer it or sail, thinking Gibraltar may be best as with dog, and also the 90 days out of 180 days max stay due to no longer being in the EU. Trying to figure it all out and any advice would be appreciated. Would like to go anywhere around that area, even Spain Portugal or the balearic Isles, but just with all the restrictions now, not sure what my best and easiest option would be. Its for a long time away I'm looking for.. Over a year anyway. Thanks appreciate any feedback.

    hi, when you sail to other countries, what are the rules for staying their. do you need permission and passport before reaching the destination and could you have found some free mooring while you board the land and how long can you spend in any given country while your boat is moored. thank you.

    • @SVImpavidus
      @SVImpavidus  2 роки тому +1

      Generally in the rules are 3 months in most countries as a tourist. In the EU, USand must other countries you then need a visa. We always try to find a place to anchor for free and only go int marinas for shelter in bad weather or to get water.

    Wouldn't it be free if you did off grid areas of the UK to Spain

    • @SVImpavidus
      @SVImpavidus  4 роки тому

      Yes it would be but the areas that are best to anchor with the best protection are slowly being taken over with mooring balls where you have to pay. Most of the atlantic coast from Camerete down to Lisbon is shallow in shore and deep off shore The atlantic swell is also a problem when there is a storm thousands of miles away. The Spainish reas are good and we did plenty of anchoring there. Sail safe.

    • @SVImpavidus
      @SVImpavidus  4 роки тому +2

      Hi we tend not to eat out. So our spend was just food and drink that we took aboard. Food is much cheaper in mainland europe as is wine and beer so on top of the budget in the video we probably spent another €200.00 a month including dog food for the pooches. Thanks for watching. @@mattmisselbrook8449 Hi Matt. We are moderators on a Facebook page called Learner and New Sailors. It was set up by our friends on SV Compromise. Gavin and Hannah. It may be an Idea to join that group and ask some questions. Be sure to answer all the questions and agree to the terms as that's the way we keep the spammers and idiots out. There are many very experienced sailors, teachers and instructors on there that we invited in to give good honest answers to questions that other groups would get answers from armchair sailors that just watch UA-cam but are experts! We specifically say that there is no such thing as a stupid question and Gavin, Hannah and us moderate and invite experts in each field to comment on behind the scenes. There is no commercial advertising allowed and advice is free and always very good.
      The other thing you could do is become one of our Patreon's. We give free advice, Satellite tracking of all the places we have been that link to our videos. You can zoom in to every anchorage, Marina and place we have been over the last 3 years. Even plan a route based on the waypoints taken every 10 minutes on our Satellite website. When you have looked at this and have a question about a place, a route or things like; Water Derv or shopping, even costs of marinas or mooring balls we can then give you details of what we found, what prices were like and even nice walks or bars and restaurants we went to, or did not! You also get exclusive footage, hints and tips, behind the scenes footage, photos and blogs that we do not put on youtube. If you have a problem, mechanical or electrical you can contact us direct to get some help or advice. At just £3 a month we find a lot of folks are now signing up as its like having both our 35 years of sailing experience right there at your fingertips if you need it. The subscriptions do not support us, they go to specific funds to pay for camera equipment, data for uploading videos or editing software costs. Currently we are putting Patreon funds towards a Go-Pro7 so that we can mount it on the giro gimbal we bought at the beginning of the year. It will also do underwater video to 20 mtrs in 4K Hope this helps and we look forward to seeing you on the FB page or as a Patreon.

    Ant and Cid it's lovely to hear from you. You've made it look extremely easy to sail from the UK across Biscay and along the Atlantic coast to your final destination in the Mediterranean (for the time being). How do you find Almeria marina? We have friends that spent a season there. I understand it has a big expat community there complete with its own vhf radio bulletins and updates. Thank you for the update and sharing the cruising numbers. Kind regards Daryl.

    • @SVImpavidus
      @SVImpavidus  6 років тому +1

      Daryl. Almerimar is a big marina. It has everything we need to hand. the main town is just a €1.30 bus ride. Almaria is 25 mins in a car or an hour by bus. We are going to put a video together on the marina. There are lots of people here from all over, we have quiz nights, women that sail, yoga classes, walking group and much more. The radio net starts at 10 am on C67. You can get help or advice on there or even ask for car sharing or a lift to the town. Yes its a great place. Sail safe x

      @@SVImpavidus Hi Ant and Cid. I meant to say Almerimar that is where they stayed. We were due to visit them there but because of other family commitments we didn't get out there. We did visit them in La linea and at another small marina further up the coast from Gibraltar. How long have you been at Almerimar? Did you consider Cartagena? I understand it's also very reasonable and is very close to the beautiful town that is steeped with history. Kind regards Daryl.

      @@SVDreamCatcher1 We have been here since the end of September. We got a good deal, better than Cartagena would offer. We also knew 3 other boats that would be staying here. We will feature them in upcoming vids. We are exploring the area too when we get a good deal on hire cars. There is lots of history in the area from Granada the French border. Hoping to see as much as we can. Sail safe. Ant.

    Enjoyed that.👍 So when you are ashore using your new workbench how do peeps get on and off the boat.😉😂

    • @SVImpavidus
      @SVImpavidus  6 років тому +1

      Ah Ha! Good to see someone paying attention 🤔 . When we come in to moor stern to we drop the tailgate as we call it. This gives us the ideal distance from the dockside, allows us to tie off and step ashore. We the raise the tailgate to keep the pooches on board and use the gang plank. When we need the workbench we lower the tailgate, keep the pooches down below. We have had a couple of times where Oscar has managed to outwit us and get ashore by jumping the gap or getting on next doors boat to chase the boatyard cat. At night and when we are away from the boat we double up the lines from the topping lift to keep the gang plank in the air. Rats and Cockroaches are a problem here so any opportunity to deny them access is taken. Glad you liked it Norman thanks for watching. Sail safe. Ant.

      Hi Robert. Its by our good friend John. He had a blues band called "hair of the dog". Unfortunately it is not on general release. You will also note that this video has no adverts as a Brazilian company claimed copy right!!! We have objected but UA-cam do not get involved and its a complete pain trying to fight the company against their spurious claim. So rather than let them earn a few pounds from our efforts we de monitorised the video. it's an on going problem for UA-cam V-blogers. Sorry we cannot help you with a copy it was a good band..... • @SVImpavidus
      @SVImpavidus  5 років тому +2

      At the moment no one knows Philip. There is so much scaremongering and bluster from both sides. It's 90 days in any tax year in Spain but honest they dont care they just want the money we spend. It's like the dog passports. There is so much guff written in the UK about needing them and being arrested if you don't have them. We have never been asked to show them even when we were checked out by French and Portuguese customs. They see all the regulations more as guidelines. They only enforce them when you cause a stir or upset someone. We will just stop over in a non EU country like our American friends do. It's inconvenient but the same all round the world. Non EU nationals can get a 180 day extension visa to Schengen area. We have Australian friends that have just done it.
      Sail Safe and don't let the sailing press and media spoil your plans there is always a way round things. Ant & Cid.

      @@SVImpavidus The point is that it is no longer free and easy movement in the EU, and at any time some port official could keel haul you if he donned his cap and got the book out. Rules is rules and the law is the law - be cautious as you could end up paying the local officials a lot of pesetas in court fees, or having to grease their stern tube to turn a blind-eye
