I just love Carolina's smile when she took picture with the wanton ladies!! Good job you both with trying local food at local hunts! Beach Road hawker is a gem! Fantastic food to try: claypot rice, beef noodles, prawn noodles, hokkien mee, vadeh, soup tulang! Ps: i will show thr wanton noodle auntie thid video when i see her next! That hawker centre is our favourite too! Many friendly aunties and uncles!
The wantons you have at the end is pork meat inside. For me i don't like the soup version, there's another fried version. If you ever come back to Singapore can have a try too.
The interactions with the locals, especially the Hawker Center food stall owners...in a few of your videos...are so authentic. Our Singaporeans Uncles and Aunties...are so friendly, welcoming, and can even respond very well in English. Tiong Bahru is an EXCELLENT choice - it's one of the OG hawker centers and they renovated it to keep it relevant. 11:20 I used to have that for breakfast all the time.
I've watched 2 of your videos and noticed that on 2 different occasions, you've asked for no added sugar to sugar cane juice. I can't speak for the rest of Southeast Asia, but in Singapore and Malaysia, no sugar is added to what is already a fairly sweet drink. In fact, in this video, you would have noticed that the lady asked if you would like to add some lemon. It comes at an extra cost, but the acidity is meant to balance the sweetness.
@9razzler9 it's a very common drink in Singapore and Malaysia. Yes it is where sugar is derived from but it is not like eating sugar as it still has liquid in it. Especially when we drink it with ice and some with added lemon.
Ang Ku Kueh skin is made from glutinous rice flour. The traditional filling is green pea (without skins) paste. You should also try the colourful layered rainbow colour Kueh lapis. Each layer is made from flour & coconut milk.
Watching you guys eating Singaporean local food just made me hungry haha 😋 Keep doing what you are doing! I really enjoy watching to your videos = as if I am there 😍
Fun Fact : Miło was invented in Australia, its good to have with Hot milk on a Winters day . Its kind of like ovaltine, but better! Really popular in Singapore , Malaysia & Thailand..
Yam is actually also called Taro. Singaporeans use Yam and Taro interchangeably to refer to the same thing. For the wanton noodles, the green chilli is not jalapeno. It is just pickled green chilli that has a sour spicy taste.
The Shui Kweh topping is made from Preserved Radish (Chai Poh) and stewed into a condiment which give the Shui Kweh the flavours. The Seafood/ Shrimp comes from the chill, it is sambal belacan, belacan is a type of shrimp processed indgredient.
teh o kosong teh= tea 0= no milk kosong= empty( but in this context it means no sugar) kosong can be used in other context too. the whole phrase is in Malay language
Golden mile is super good! that taiwanese food stall at golden mile where the owner told you "welcome to singapore", the store owner is really cute, he's always so friendly. golden mile is always busier and more open at lunch. the chicken rice on the lower floor is amazing. the wanton stall you went to is great too. sometimes i just go and get fried wantons from them.

Ji Xiang Ang Ku Kueh has to be my favorite place for ang ku kueh! Their kuehs are not overly sweet. And yes peanut flavor is also my favourite! A lot of traditional kuehs are made from glutinous rice flour, thus it is usually very sticky.
Nice video and both are so friendly that the wanton noodle stall owner love you so much. Btw for the chwee kueh, it will be easier to eat with a fork or a spoon but in sg mostly they give small stick and sometime a smaller toothpick. Next time if you are back in sg(welcome back again anytime), use two sticks instead of one to scoop the cai pok(raddish) and put on top of the cut(using the stick to cut) smaller pieces of the chwee kueh. Then use two sticks and pick up the chwee kueh like a mini chopstick or just poke it to pick it up. It will be easier. 🙂
Golden Mile Food Centre is also known as the 'Army Market' cos of shops selling army accessories on the upper level. I was shocked when I saw the Wonton auntie threw in extra char siew for you guys! Hospitality at its finest! She was so delighted when you commented that she was feeding like your mum did cos she repeated that twice to her partner twice.
Golden Mile food centre may not have many tourists but this place has one of the best chicken rice in Singapore at B1-35 and not many tourists know that .
Eating Chwee Kueh with single skewer stick can be tricky. It’s easier if u use 2 sticks like a pair of chopsticks. Some stalls provide plastic disposable dessert forks instead of skewer sticks.
The pink on the char siew pork is the food colouring they added to the marinade. Shui kueh/chwee kueh are steam rice cakes topped with raddish (I don't know why the guy said porridge or maybe it was heard wrongly). The wonton mee chili isn't jalapenos, they're green chili, not as spicy, on the sour side.
Nick name for Golden Miles Hawker Centre is "Army Market"... Like you've said, the 3rd floor sells 'military' stuffs... So Singaporean boys who lost certain military item they are issued with... Can go and buy what they need or replace what they need.

When you order fresh sugarcane drinks that is freshly squeezed. It has already all the natural sweetness that comes naturally with it. You don’t need to say no added sugar. I think it is because you have been brainwashed with added sugar in your home country and western countries. I guess You never knew how good it is to have all natural fruit sweetness without artificial stimulated products that deceived your taste buds. In a hot and humid country like Singapore, what is priority is to quench your thirst and cool down whenever you can. Like add ice and maybe add lemons or lime to enrich your palate and drink experience.
We actually had come across many situations when the drinks served were way too sweet for us 👀 That’s why probably automatically we asked for no sugar in this case haha
Chwee kueh ('water rice cake'), is a type of steamed rice cake originating in Teochew cuisine that is served with preserved radish. Not caramelized onion 😂
The brown stuff on the Chwee Kway is preserved radish, not porridge. I don't know what it is with tourists, they tend to visit the most expensive parts of Singapore. Next time, should try visiting the heartlands. Everything is much cheaper than CBD and Orchard. Even Bugis is considered to be more expensive than the heartlands, definitely not budget friendly.

Is that the new building ya?that u can see all around singapore from the top of the building, amazingwhats the name of the building and where is the location?thx and amazing video
Food is considered cheap in sg. But staying here is different. Property, car, preschool, tuition, baby stuffs etc are so much higher even compared to australia.
Did you guys do any research at all? Singapore is one of the biggest ports IN THE WORLD. The rooftop views are so much better at sunset & night. And the view at MBS is considered "premium" because well, it's really impressive
Im Indonesian and Singapore will always my Fav Country To Visit. But living cost there is very high, but its worthy tho. Back in 2013 i lived there for 2 months extend my 30days permit to stay , become 60days. Ive been in Hongkong before that for 3 weeks, but Singapore is the one make me want to extend my tourist permits . Rent the apartment and just experience lived like the local,go to market buy grocery, go to night club , trying many many local food , and explore the city and you can say last two weeks kind a become Bus Expert , no maps needed. 😊
We would love to be back in Singapore but first need to save for it to fully experience the city 🙏 Although, as we presented in the video, it’s quite affordable place when you eat local food and not overspend on most popular touristy attractions!
Great video guys ! one little tip buy a Spork for food when theres only sticks i bring my spork everywhere with me you can cut spoon and fork with it so handy !
Nice videos exploring the local places and trying local snacks! Please don't place the utensils directly on the tray as it is not hygienic. We usually use 2 wooden sticks like a chopsticks to eat the chee kueh. In Asia we use the spoon to scoop and eat the rice. Fork to help to push onto the spoon :D Not everything is made from glutinous rice hahahaha! Rice flour and glutinous rice flour gives very different textures. As you have tasted in the videos :) Glutinous rice gives a chewy texture ala mochi. The purple filling is mashed yam/taro most likely with some coconut milk. Tea in general refers to milk tea, i.e. black ceylon tea with condensed milk. Tea without milk and sugar is teh O kosong LOL "O" means no milk. Char Siew in general is made from pork, so we just call it char siew. That red is just colouring.
@@JayandKarolinathere are 2 kinds of milk, condensed milk and evaporated milk. By default, coffee and tea comes with condensed milk which is sweet in itself. You can order with evaporated milk (C) which is not sweet. Teh C / Kopi C will have evaporated milk with sugar. Teh C Kosong / Kopi C Kosong for evaporated milk with no sugar
I was surprised that the chui kueh seller told you the topping is ‘porridge’🙃 It should be ‘preserved radish’. Better to eat the chui kueh with a fork .
Why are two different listed prices on your video? I know the first one is pound. What is the other price in? You kept verbalizing the price in SGD? But you listed another price as you spoke of SGD? Is in Japanese Yen, Thai Bhat, SA Rand, MYR, etc???
We did stay in Kampong Glam in the capsule hostel and we liked it! Also the Golden Mile Food Court was around 10 mins walk from our so it was perfect - the name of the stall was "Wanton Noodle · Fried Bee Hoon Mee" 🥹

I recommend u to visit north bridge road food centre(maybe 10mins walk from golden mile food centre featured in your video) to try the red bean desert(hot) and green bean desert(hot). Imo, one of the best in sg. I recalled operating hrs is daily till 3pm but normally sold out at bout 2pm, sundays closed
It's actually "char siew" & yes in sg, it's either hot or wet rainy 😅... The thing on the rice cakes are preserved radish bits which uncle is not good in English that's why the initial misinformation 😅... I can see you have done good homework on the go-to places in SG... Ang ku kuehs are made of glutinous rice flour which is why they are sticky, named due to the prints that looks like back of a turtle.
Wow, that ve seen that fancy looking HBD apartment block at my last visit to Singapore, but didn’t know it had an observation deck. Where is the Tiong Bahru Hawker stall at 3:32 located? Just like to stay " Pozdrowienia z Australii " Do was ! 🙂
From the main entrance as you enter you have to go to the very end then turn left again go to the end and you will see! Yeah. 68 -> Tiong Bahru Lee Hong Kee Cantonese Roasted 🥳
So glad u made an effort to try so many local dishes since day 1 in Singapore. However will like to point out an action I spotted in the video at 32.00 - the chopsticks was poke into the noddles. No offense Tis is a no no for Chinese table manners. Chinese only do Tis when they made offering to the dead. U can jus place the chop stickers across the bowl. Really enjoy watching yr video.
Ah, it is just cultural habits, visitors may not know. Just like how Singaporeans would put chopsticks across the bowl in Japan when that is offensive!
I will highly recommend you to go up to the Capital Spring sky garden. It is FOC. Please Google the opening hours. The view is awesome too, right in the heart of the Financial district.
Sugarcane no artificial suger it's natural and its cooling to your body I m a locally Singaporean we don't say singaporean dollar, you just say its sing dollar in short will do.
He should give forks or chopsticks, guy just a stinge, scrooge,..he can't even scoop up the chye por ( fried scallions garnish)by himself..but hey, glad u enjoyed it, i knew a guy in Leicester Sq who sols these chwee Kuehs some time back!
ya i usually bought n took a disposable fork with it... was surprised the uncle just gave toothpicks to eat with haha... the "cai pok" i always ask for more.

Watching you guys eating my Singapore hawker food makes me misses my home food. Cant find all these comfort food in the London and Glasgow here.
London ? they eat fish caviar and fine lobster over there ..
@@theendtimesmarketpredictio4940 of course lol
@@chalayan You know ... even the sugar cane juice is diluted here in singapore and you paid 2 dollars for it... crazy price for sugar cane juice ..
All the proud and friendly hawkers of Singapore!
First off it was nice to hv u here in Spore!! Belated welcome!😂 Just to share we asians usually uses spoon to scoop up rice dishes, and fork for noodles. Otherwise both! Hope u guys had a good time here in a not so cheap country😂
We really did! Hoping to be back soon 😍🙏
Is that the new building ya?that u can see all around singapore from the top of the building, amazingwhats the name of the building and where is the location?thx and amazing video
Pinnacle@Duxton 🙌
Coffee and tea from hawker centres in Singapore are popular for being very strong 😂
Food is considered cheap in sg. But staying here is different. Property, car, preschool, tuition, baby stuffs etc are so much higher even compared to australia.

That lady represented her self not Singapore, because not everyone gives you more food just for free and not axcepr money in return.
Hope you'll come back singapore and stay longer time yoyr next visit
Give Carolina ur drink to taste as well. She is asking how is ur drink u should ask her to try it. :-)
🫡
Gonna binge watch these bangers
Great video guys ! one little tip buy a Spork for food when theres only sticks i bring my spork everywhere with me you can cut spoon and fork with it so handy !
Good tip!
U guys should try capitalspring next time. It's free on weekdays and much higher view than MBS and pinnacle
Thanks for sharing!
Nice videos exploring the local places and trying local snacks! Please don't place the utensils directly on the tray as it is not hygienic. We usually use 2 wooden sticks like a chopsticks to eat the chee kueh. In Asia we use the spoon to scoop and eat the rice. Fork to help to push onto the spoon :D
Not everything is made from glutinous rice hahahaha!
Thank you for all the amazing explanations!
He corrected himself in the end as well 😬 Not sure if I captured it on the video though!
The kueh is actually seperated by pandan leaves 👍🏼
One tip, its always best to sip abit of plain water in between different sweet stuffs.
Great point!
Why are two different listed prices on your video? I know the first one is pound. What is the other price in? You kept verbalizing the price in SGD? But you listed another price as you spoke of SGD? Is in Japanese Yen, Thai Bhat, SA Rand, MYR, etc???
I believe it's Euros.
For the 2 prices shown are actually:
£ = pound, $ = US dollars
Exactly!
T-shirts for men at 9.90 SGD right at Uniqlo Bugis+.
Wow, really? Haven’t seen them then!
Enjoyed your video. Two questions, out of curiosity where did you stay? Also what was the name of the noodle shop where you enjoyed the Wonton Me?
We did stay in Kampong Glam in the capsule hostel and we liked it! Also the Golden Mile Food Court was around 10 mins walk from our so it was perfect - the name of the stall was "Wanton Noodle · Fried Bee Hoon Mee" 🥹
@@JayandKarolina Thank you. I will give the stall a try when I arrive in April with my friends. If you have a video of your accommodations I would love to see your review. Wishing you both the best in your travels.
Good day everyone. Jay, saw you visited golden mile food centre.
if u ever back in sg.
Sounds suuuper delicious! We will remember to visit it next time then!
All of the foods we had were sooo delicious! We're looking forward to visiting Singapore in the near future once again! 😍
It’s preserved Radish that’s on the chwee kueh… Not porridge. 😊🌻
Yes! Thank you!
Przesyłamy pozdrowienia z Malezji!
Really helpful comment! Thanks! Will do as you say next time 🫡
Ah, it is just cultural habits, visitors may not know. Just like how Singaporeans would put chopsticks across the bowl in Japan when that is offensive!
haha no wonder i found something weird there and paused in thinking but cannot find what's wrong there... its the chopstick stuck in the bowl...
as a SG local welcome! hope you had a great time! do carry an umbrella! its been raining alot recently!
Thank you! That’s so true 😬
Chwee Kueh & Lor Mee are the food I will have when I am at Tiong Bahru Food Centre. Yummy!
Good choice! We were willing to go for the Lor Mee as well but the best stalls were closed unfortunately! Need to catch up with trying it though 🤫😬
Chwee kweh eat with spoon will be better, easy take the rice kweh together with the salty vegetable.😋
Yes, so true!
I will highly recommend you to go up to the Capital Spring sky garden. It is FOC. Please Google the opening hours. The view is awesome too, right in the heart of the Financial district.
I agree, very nice roof garden with awesome view, Skyville @ Dawson is another free HDB with awesome view to visit.
YeS my brother keep it up ❤❤
Sugarcane no artificial suger it's natural and its cooling to your body I m a locally Singaporean we don't say singaporean dollar, you just say its sing dollar in short will do.
It’s not “porridge “. It’s cooked preserved radish with a mixed of spice and garlic .
Go to MyCK department store at New Bridge Centre, definitely can find quality and cheap buy including t-shirts, bags, misc etc
Thanks for the tips! We’re out of town now but now we know when to look for it next time!
Are you jay from gig hustle ?
I am indeed!
@@JayandKarolina hope you had a great time here at sg

Thanks for sharing!
He should give forks or chopsticks, guy just a stinge, scrooge,..he can't even scoop up the chye por ( fried scallions garnish)by himself..but hey, glad u enjoyed it, i knew a guy in Leicester Sq who sols these chwee Kuehs some time back!
Man I miss Singapore I wanna go back there.

hi greeting from Singapore , its not fried onion is actually Radish !
Capitaspring roof top garden is free.
Great to know for the next time!
What about the cost of your accomodation and the cost of easy link card for your travels? No way can you do Singapore under $50 .
We calculated only the spendings of the day for 2 people but with accommodation would be similar 👀
@@JayandKarolina no way . Accomodation in Singapore is expensive. Definitely not under $50
Miss our food ( living overseas for many years) 😷💦💦💕
I agree it is hard to eat the shui kueh. It is nice food and I usually eat with a fork at home for breakfast. 😂
Exactly!! But anyways it was totally worth it 🙏
ya i usually bought n took a disposable fork with it... was surprised the uncle just gave toothpicks to eat with haha... the "cai pok" i always ask for more.
