Oh my gosh! Thank you! I got tired of people accusing this historic derby of "not being the same" following Ronaldo's departure from Real Madrid. It was great before they existed and it'll be great after they're gone. Anyone who thinks otherwise I'd argue hasn't been watching football long. That said... We need that Messi vs Ronaldo: roots of the rivalry video. 👀
Having grown up in the last decade, El Classico was to me a battle of greats and rivalries. Messi vs Ronaldo, Pique vs Ramos. Rivalries like that made El Classico very excited iconic to me.
List of football rivalies I'd love to see you do. My top 5 1. North London Derby (Spurs-Arsenal) 2. Old Firm (Celtic-Rangers) 3. Manchester United-Liverpool 4. Alecito Madrid-Real Madrid 5. Bayern-Dortmound
Jason Brandyberry Bayern-Dortmund is hardly a derby, it’s more of a newly emerged derby with not much past. It’s come up in recent years because they’ve lately been the top teams in German football
I would say that for the most part this vid is accurate and well versed. Barça has such a rich history and it’s very difficult to sum it up as well as this video does. I would have to point out 1 inaccuracy. On the topic of Franco having some good relation with Barça, I think it’s very crucial to point out that, at that point, FCB was CFB. In other words. The team pretty much belonged to Franco and the central government. That’s why you have the name change from Football Club Barcelona to Club de Futbol Barcelona. So that administration that got along with Franco was, actually, put there by Franco. At that moment in history it was symbolically dictated by Franco. It was no longer really Barça. All this, was done in efforts to simulate a “good intentions” propaganda. In reality these “good things” were an attempt to coerce the Catalan population into assimilating into Spanish culture. I enjoyed the vid! Thank you
Ricardo Morales, thanks for mentioning this fact, it has been somehow "forgotten" by some of the Barcelona directives, probably as a stain in the team history.
I was surprised to learn that Real's coach was a goalkeeper for Barca for 3 years. Not so much that he played for FCB, but that a keeper became a coach of a top team.
Adrian, you have summarised very accurately the rivalry of both teams. The perception in Spain and Catalonia is that, RM is the team of the regime (the Spanish stablishment, or Spanish pride) and Barcelona is perceived as the Catalan National team. The political implications are still there: they wave Spanish flags during the matches at Bernabeu, and Catalan independence flags in Camp Nou, with chants of "In-de-pen-den-cia" at the minute 17:14 of each part.
"Spain and Catalonia", as if they were different places 🥴 Spain is a state, Catalonia is a region (nation, perhaps?) within that state. A different place to Catalonia would be Castile, where Madrid is located (in fact Real Madrid's second team is called Real Madrid Castilla). There are Catalans who think they are just Catalan and the rest of the country are just Spaniards, but lots of people in Catalonia and most people in the rest of Spain don't see it like that, I tell you. In fact, Spain must be one of the countries with the highest number of separatist or regionalist parties, it seems there's at least one in each fuckin' region 😂 You're right about Real Madrid being perceived as the team of the regime, or "el equipo del gobierno', though. Even lots of Atlético fans see it that way.

Franco had nothing to do with di Stefano going to RM. it was due to complicated ownership rights in South America and Barca stupidly negotiating with the wrong team. It’s also important to point out that Franco was an Atletico Madrid (Atletico Avion as they were known at the time) fan and only started using Real Madrid during the 50’s due to success in the European Cup.
The fact people still use this as an excuse to be ass holes to one another is ridiculous. This happened over 60 years ago and people still hate each other over it. Let it go- the very spirit that Francisco Franco wanted to instill into people and this division is precisely what is still going on today and is very much keeping him satisfied in his grave... and the sad part is it's happening through a sport. It's okay for there to be rivalry cause these are the 2 best clubs in the world and they want to beat each other, but the amount of hate I see from people is ridiculous.

Just finished the video. You might want to work on your Spanish pronunciations. Also, since El Clásico is very popular with so many dimensions to why it is so fierce, looking into the further developments of the rivalry may be interesting. I didn’t even know Di Stefano was originally a Barcelona player.
Appreciated, will maybe do a Part 2 in the future! I gotta say though, the "pronunciation" comments that people leave all over videos on UA-cam have gotta be the weakest/most annoying things out there. If someone is absolutely butchering names to the point where it's insulting? Fair enough! But if they are trying and falling short, I truly don't care. For example, I personally wouldn't go watch a video by an Indian guy and be like "wow dude, work on your pronunciation of English words!" Or if a Mexican guy did a video on the history of Canada and pronounced Vancouver as "Bancouber," I wouldn't say anything to him either, because why should I expect the perfect pronunciation of something that isn't in his native tongue? He did his best, I understood him, I move on, I literally don't even think twice about it. However, it's interesting how when the roles are reversed, people don't hesitate to say "WOW WORK ON YOUR PRONUNCIATION LMAO," (not saying you said it like that btw, but most do) when a dude whose first language is English, and his pronunciation of Spanish words gets muddied up with his French pronunciation from school. So, I've just decided to do my best, and ignore those comments. 🙃🙃 haha you were the lucky first recipient of my opinion on the matter.

You guys need to do the more intense rivalry of Real Madrid vs Atletico Madrid. Also at some point, a Seville derby would be awesome to see a video about. That’s such an interesting rivalry where the fans can’t stand each other.
Adrian, these are really good. Can you do West Ham United V Millwall, Liverpool, Everton, Man Utd, Man City and Boca Juniors and their local rivals....
There is no Messi vs Ronaldo argument if you realize they have pretty close stats, but Messi is 3 years younger. If we compare Messi’s stats to Ronaldo at the same age, there is a noticeable disparity. People do not wanna acknowledge it now, but in another 5 years it will be a glaring truth. Ronaldo is/was awesome, but if you watch them both play, there is no contest to Messi’s superiority. They eye test and their stats at the same age dont lie.
Great video brother. Hey, this week will be an El Clasiço without both the legends of the game for the first time since 2009 I believe. Great content though 👏👏👏 Waiting for more #RootsoftheRivalry 💥
It is far from being as black and white. It's true Barça has always been closer to Catalan nationalism than Espanyol, but there have always been culers who feel both Catalan and Spanish and the club also has lots of followers from the rest of Spain. More or less the same can be said about Espanyol (although this club is not as popular in the rest of Spain, not even in Catalonia). Dual identities Catalan/Spanish were always the most common ones in Barcelona and most of Catalonia. Although of course a Catalan native speaker who feels both Catalan and Spanish sees Spain probably in a different way than a Spanish nationalist in Madrid. Historically Catalan nationalism itself wasn't even as openly independentist as it is now.
Another good video. It kind of fits nicely with Copa 90's Derby Days series. If you haven't already check it out, they go to the games meet the fans and sample the atmosphere.

Exactly - a cynical, fascist, arrogant, opportunist.
Amen to that, hermano.
Great job Rabona TV
but hey, where's the Lisboa derby video?!? Would love to see it. Cheers
great video , very informative
I just discovered your videos. They are very informative and entertaining. Thank you for the good content, keep it up
quality content!
a video on di stefano would be cool, I had no idea he ever wore a barca shirt
Hey, that's a quite informative and interesting piece to watch. Thanks a lot for covering the history of derbies in such a way. Now will you please publish one with enlightening the conspicuous move of de Stefano to Madrid?
Adrian, I am big fan of yours. The way you express your views incredibly impress me and i am sure every audience. I love you so much, hope to meet you someday😇
Amazing video 🤩
New to your channel and I’ve gone down an awesome rabbit hole with these “Roots of the Rivalry” videos👍 That Di Stefano video sounds like it would be interesting🙌
Love this series dude, keep on making it cause it s very interesting. Also here are some requests for you re future vids: fc sevilla - betis, valencia - levante, fenerbahce - galatasaray, marseille - psg , dortmund - schalke and the rivalries in south america like river - boca ,independiente - racing club, flamengo - botafogo , santos - corinthians , sao paulo - corinthians and so on. I m sure you can find very juicy historic information regarding these games.
Nice job
We believe in our capitan ( Ramos)
And kroos is world class
Let's all trust Zidane and
' Hala madrid y nada mas '
nicely articulated.
@RabonaTV Why haven't you made an episode on "Manchester Derby" yet?
How about the kolkata derby? mohun bagan vs east bengal ... no1 really sheds light into it even though it is also around a 100 years old rivalry... and u seem to be a very very very dedicated creater.... keep up the great work
also its an Kolkata which is like the football heart and soul of India ...
and it happens so that i am from kolkata and i am willing to provide u with any knowledge u would require for the video...
also its India ... lots of people ... good for the channel ... u know yseries vs lew li pie thingy
I can't find the video of Sporting and Benfica anywhere. Was it taken down?
do the north London derby
8:25 It is still a strange thing to think about that Spain played football tournaments while the rest of Europe and the world was in the middle if war
I love your videos man
What song did you use in the background at 4:59 ??????? I really like it 🤩🤩🤩
Mohun Bagan vs East Bengal, please? A rivalry that is driven tremendously through geopolitics
Rabona TV Come to think of it, pointing out a mispronunciation is a bit of “nitpick” when I think about it. Thank’s for changing my mind on that.
Haha no problem m888.
ilocosmetro he never was a Barcelona player I mean real literally stoled him from Barcelona before he could even put a shirt on
ilocosmetro this is why I can't support real. They're like the greatest bully in football. I prefer a little less bullying
This was too much bullying for me
The way you read the “N” in Spanish it’s only correct if it is this “Ñ”, the normal “N” is read just like in English
cool series can't wait for english and german rivalries
Great video
I'm sorry but the small explanation of the Civil War is absolutely flawed
Watching this one day before the El Clasico!
Appreciate it Ollie! I'll cover some British teams in the future for sure, but up next: Boca vs River Plate.
Great content though 👏👏👏
Waiting for more #RootsoftheRivalry 💥
hey, where is the lisbon derby video? I dont see it and I want to know more.
These rivalry videos are awesome, dude. You should do one for Juventus vs Inter, il Derby d'Italia. It would make for a fantastic video.
Loving your series. You should do the Derby of eternal enemies Olympiacos vs Panathinaikos, or the Salonika derby PAOK vs Aris. Just suggesting.
These videos are great.
Barcelona will thrash Real Madrid this Sunday though. Forca Barca
No shit sherlock.
#FORÇABARÇA
You sir predicted right... Its 5-1 for the best club in the world.
r/quityourbullshit
Ure a prophet
Who watching in 2021 and clasico being tmr
Mes que un club. More than a club. Barça represents catalonia. Also do Barça-Espanyol rivalry and its catalonian identity vs spanish identity.
Más*
Do the di Stefano video. A really interesting time in the rivalry
That’s why I support barça ❤
Do one on the old firm
Jajajaja Copa de la Gran Pena can translate literally to Cup of the Great Sorrow/Shame.
What happened to the Lisbon Derby video? Went to search for it and I can't find it anywhere
This was good mate, short and concise. El Classico will always be political though. Too many people on either side don't like the others.
Do Celtic Rangers next ( partly cause I am curious how you will be able to get everything in a short vid :P. But also so that people get to know football roots better)
who else wants him to do el super classico ( Boca Juniors vs River Plate )
Nobody cares about South American football!!
also if you say that south american football isnt as good as european your just wont admit that south americans are more passionate about the sport. millions of more south americans care about football and this is the final of the biggest tournament in south america so i think people are gonna care
@@NikhilVasishtR its not just about how people react the history of the rivalry is in my opinion the most interesting. But i understand what your saying.
@@The_InfantMalePollockFrancis shut up. South American football is underrated. Many great players come from South America
FC Barcelona - RCD Espanyol rivalry next
You should do a video for Celtic v Rangers, that´ll be fun!
