    動画で言うのを忘れていましたが、こちらのサメは行政からの駆除要請で獲られたもので、元々廃棄される予定だったので、今回はありがたく頂戴していただくことにしました。
    I did not tell you explicitly in the video, but this shark was slaughtered according to the request from the government and it was meant to be slaughtered and disposed of anyway when it was caught unintentionally, that is why I decided to eat it with appreciation.

    I love how effortlessly chatty you are. I like how you explain facts about the sharks as you are going thru the dissection, fileting, cleaning process. You should be a teacher. You are so joyful and fun and animated. I had no interest in watching a video of you preparing and eating 21 baby sharks, but your steady commentary is so entertaining. It's also hilarious watching and listening to your reaction when eating. When you started eating the fried baby sharks and clearly did not like them, but kept eating them and commented that you were going to keep eating them, I literally laughed out loud. Thumbs up! Great content!

    In the U.S. a common way to deal with the high ammonia content in shark is to marinate it 4 to 6 hours in buttermilk. The buttermilk has an enzyme that neutralizes the ammonia.

    • @g-roc44
      @g-roc44 3 роки тому +23

      Or cut the tell and it let it bleed out then soak in buttermilk

    • @sfcmmacro
      @sfcmmacro 3 роки тому +93

      @@g-roc44 bleeding any fish is a given… either by cutting the tail (as you mentioned) or the gills, depending on the size and species of the fish. Also, never store or rinse ocean fish in fresh water (iced or not). The fresh water changes the texture of the flesh. Always put fresh ocean fish in a ice brine… a d when cleaning/filleting it always rinse it in salt water.

      In Iceland they actually embrace the ammonia taste. They don’t even cook it, they let the Greenland Sharks air dry and rot, because only after the chemical changes and ammonia production is intensified, then can it be eaten, otherwise the meat of the Greenland Shark in its actual form is actually toxic and not safe for consumption. It is called Hákarl, little shark cubes that have an extreme ammoniac taste, and sometimes they even dip it in vodka while eating.

    • @markusfederico8732
      @markusfederico8732 2 роки тому +26

      @@MetalizedButt I tried it once, and after the first bite it was delicious. Haptics like „green bacon“, first taste like window cleaner, then like strong salty liqourice without the sweetness. In Germany, Netherlands and Nordics we love the salty ammonia with liqourice, so I had no problems with it. The rotten shark enzymes reduce toxic ethylamine (sharkies anti freeze) to less toxic ammonia. The „black death“ Vodka though is horrible. It tastes like a christmas-tree-Grappa cocktail, but without party fun….

      - Grumpygold You word it like he purposely swam down into the sea, looked specifically for a pregnant shark, and beat the hell out of it to eat it and its babies. This shark was a bycatch from other people fishing, and the babies would have probably just been sat somewhere to rot otherwise.
      Unless you mean "savage" as in "Yoo, what a savage" and not as in "You all are savages," which still brings the same image to mind but with less negative connotations.

    Things I learned from this video:
    If you wanna eat a baby shark you better boil it first to get rid of the ammonia taste, got it.
    Now to catch one

    • @almondao
      @almondao 3 роки тому +39

      Common knowledge for those who eat sharks is to gut and bleed them out as soon as you catch them. From online source, "As a shark deteriorates the urea in their blood immediately begins to break down into ammonia which then gets absorbed in the flesh and expelled through the skin of the animal. In other words, sharks urinate through their skin." So if it dies and is left to sit there as is they will taste like ammonia. We do that with local spiny dogfish in the Puget Sound if we plan to keep and eat them. They are commonly used in the UK for fish and chips. We actually bleed out Salmon here as well. Tastes so much better than store bought where they do not bleed out the fish.

    Oh, wow...how did I ever miss this video. They're beautiful creatures, and seeing all of the babies was really overwhelming. I have so many emotions is such a relatively short length of time, and one thing that popped unbidden into my thoughts was the prohibition of boiling a baby goat in the mother's milk. This is nothing like that, but our brains work by linking up new experiences with like things that are already tucked away. Thanks for offering appreciation for the creature and the meal.

It felt like such a beautiful nature moment respecting the mother shark last will. It unfortunate the babies were already dead and didn't get the chance to become mature sharks.
