I am a professional in the field of industrial mechanics. I worked for many years at the AAB Group. I practically learned how to work correctly by watching and observing the most experienced professionals perform extremely important services that did not even allow for the possibility of error. The Itaipu plant was one of the most important projects that I was able to witness and participate in. I am very grateful for the opportunity that the company gave me and my many coworkers! Today I am 60 years old and practically retired, but I recognize a good professional and his qualities. That is why I would like to give you a warning: Always, always use safety tools, especially those for the professional's personal use. I watched this lathe operator at work and made sure to watch the video to the end, and at no point did he put on protective glasses or gloves! But he has my respect as a professional and I know that the rush and the company's need to deliver the order within the promised time sometimes makes us negligent when it comes to safety. Congratulations...

Wow, very impressive, skilled and professional done. Two questions, what was the approximate weight of the piece and how long time did it take from start to finish to do the work.
.PS Always use safety glasses when working. I did the mistake of not using safety glasses, that was a painful experience…

Thank you brother, there was a lot of rust inside and outside of the forged steel material. It was around 5 tons. It took 3 days for the pre-welding process and I processed the flange in 1 day. The welding process took 1 day and the delicate process of opening the channels took 2 days.

For those whose comments regarding safety, I totally agree. But I also understand that for workers who are used to their work, they just know when it is time to protect themselves with safety devices. They do this work every day, they are the one who know the situation and they know what they are doing and the risks. So, I believe they do things safely according to their judgements.
About the video, I enjoyed every second of it, especially the moment when other friends without being asked came to help with smile, I always admire this kind of teamwork. Greetings from Indonesia ✌✌💪💪

You made a very valid comment, colleague, but since the diameter is large, it is a little difficult to achieve the surface quality. I had to stand on the bench to remove the surface quality and the burrs of the channels, but the piece is securely attached. God forbid anyone should be separated from their family.

I wonder how much the costumer could have saved by specking the OD to be as-forged everywhere it isn't a contact fit with something? I've seen a number of videos of people spending a lot of machine time (e.g. 5-axis contour milling with a 5mm ball mill) getting very great results on what is, in the end, cosmetic finish work because that's what the costumer ordered.

Safety glasses bro, literally no reason not to wear them. Does someone come around cleaning up the swarf all the time, the open back style of the lathe always created a mess you can't see with components this size.

Yes, you are right in general, but the order here works like this for now. When there are jobs with a lot of sawdust, the children take the sawdust so that they do not have difficulty.
