If you're going to run a pally in hc, you run holy fire through normal.

One of the most annoying things about playing hardcore is simply that you WILL have to play very safe and dance around and all that stuff, you won't just "go in" big dick in a bunch of enemies.
Diablo 4 end game not being great, has secretly been a blessing I think. I love seeing DM play all these other games!
I still got the original disc from 2000 and 01 for d2 and d2 Lod lol with keys. One of my all time favorite games!

thanks for this, loved seeing the fresh perspective on the game that is nearest and dearest to my heart.................I've pretty much abandoned all my ladder toons and play offline , never been a fan of Hardcore Mode, hell difficulty is just to easy to get snuffed. I have about 8 toons I am working on leveling, came back to D2R about a year ago and its my happy place........... D IV I uninstalled after a month, Classic WoW I left ...my free time goes to D@R
You should have a look at Project Diablo 2 which is a community mod that modernizes D2 and does seasonal balance sweeps and whatnot. Not sure you'd want to play it but might be fun to watch some intro videos and see what they've done with the old game

Oh yeah. Pally is a good class, and actually, smiting is an end game build. It's an auto hit. But yeah, you will have to get Dex up for max block on shield, get strength up to wear stuff....there's a bit to do. I personally like conviction/vengeance. Maybe try out Blessed Hammer. It's a weird one, but can be powerful. And don't sleep on Holy Shield...keep that up. It will vastly improve your survivability.
some of the most frustrating parts of diablo 4 is they have the same things, in previous titles, but it just works.... like what is wrong with them that they can't be bothered to release the stuff actually functioning correctly...
That feels like fallout 1 and 2. Try playing those old game. I think you will have alot of content on fallout games since they have good story and dark funny humor

So glad your giving d2r a bash, it's very unforgiving in comparison to d3 and d4, you can mess your build up if you don't know what your doing, but imo it's the best diablo game

Sorc would be tough for a first time hc play through. Once you get to hell resistances are a major obstacle to overcome and teleporting is really only helpful if you know your way around the maps. Not to mention almost every monster in hell is immune to a certain element or multiples so there will be monsters you have to either skip or figure out how to kill when they are resistant to your damage.

The Druid is awesome in this game unlike in D.IV and the Amazon is (bowazon) super fun to play.

FYI, elemental damage doesn’t add to smite dmg.
This furthered my belief that the modern Diablo games are superficial slop. You can see how depth of systems is no longer required as games aren't about being realistic; just lots of colours with flashing lights and audio hooks to keep their audiences dazzled. RIP Blizzard, no studio peaked longer or for higher across all genres of games, it was amazing to be around to play it all.
Hardcore hell can be done with amazon ice bow and then change to javazon around act 3 hell . Necromancer summon build is the easiest build to complete hell difficulty . The rest are really difficult on solo self found .

To be fair (not defending d4) diablo 2 originally came out with 5 classes :P - Diablo 3 Crusader was already planned before the game was even released, so I wouldn't be surprised we get the Paladin in D4 later. But who play D4 anyway?

My only gripe with D2R is the lack of stash and qol releated to stash. This becomes less of an issue overtime tho as you figure otu that most uniques and set items are not worth saving. Still... why can't I play the collection game?
Back in 2000's we had multiple (Mule)accounts to store items.

@@ESJKR you didn’t even need an email. The email was only in case you forgot your password. You were just able to make a username/password. Just don’t forget that password…or let your characters expire.
Diablo 2 is really easy indeed. Reason why there's a "players 8" command so we can scale the difficulty.

I think the Paladin is the most challenging character to play.
The original D.II I got to infernal with a Barbarian, druid and necro, 1997-2000.

Pally is the best characters hands down because of hammer. But I'd even argue it's probably the easiest character to pick up for new players because the pally shields give tons of resistance, holy shield is a huge survivability boost and auras are very strong and they could be used as set-and-forget for beginners who don't want to switch skills

dude calm tf down...you went in "the cave" which was in act 1 normal and absolute nobody who has ever played the game has gone in there. its not meant to be gone in, its for people who are completely bored and its normal in a game that actually has a difficulty scale. 2ndly im glad you mentioned the whole bit about people telling you how to just chad the game and have no fun. that part is so true and i cant stand those d2 people who will comment like that and tell you what to do. i dont listen to that garbage because as you already know the fun is all in how you want the experience...so kudos to you for that, wish more people understood that. paladin was a good choice, if not sorceress for your first time. just dont do hammers becuase its boring and Fist of the Heavens is not strong enough in hell even still after patches which people may argue but it really isnt still. after this i hope you dont pass up trying sorc because its the meta choice in the game and fun always

Let me tell you a story . My first encounter with diablo was diablo 2 demo version, and the demo wasnt Let you go trough the cold plains, as a young boy i loved that demo and played it around 6 months until i convinced my Mother to buy full game to sum up i spent of time in cave bro u cant imagine😂
