Some more info : Good old version was 1.06b, last patch before extension. no synergies meant versatile built. We were a little community playing this version in the 2010's. Note that there weren't all those junk mods on rare/magic items (%ed vs undead, chance to cast nova, repair durability (no eth), charges of zeal...), rolling good combination of mod, like %ed/attackspeed/lifeleach was much more likely. No Elite weapon meant that your exceptional weapon found on nightmare could last till end game. Physical character was a thing! physical bowazon and whirlwind barbs were dominating.
@@plummet3860 Actually no. 1.07 was pre-patch to LoD and 1.08 was patched first day of LoD. The prepatch was horrible. Basically all LoD changes poured into old Classic with the 50% global phyiscal resistance and all. I remember my WW barb becoming obsolete over night :) 1.08 however fixed that mostly but of course immunities and all came around to ruin the original D2. Yes technically 1.07 was the last patch but it was already with LoD changes.
Yeah I've been playing pre-lod D2 (1.06) for a while now whenever I have time for it. Been recording it also and just uploading the clips to my channel here in youtube. Just yesterday continued to play again after a long break I wish I had known about such community back then. I remember there was even a 1.06 battlenet copy long ago in 2004 or something. But it didn't really kickoff and was laggy and buggy.
I remember to this day a buddy of mine got a damn near perfect imbue on his superior lance. High dmg, IAS, and there it was at the bottom. Hit causes monster to flee 50%...
@@mattschwinn6727 That was common. I remember one legendary hardcore barb from the early days. He had good executioner sword but we called it a "carrot" since it was orange and had a flee in it :) But the other obvious feature you could notice on that barb was the weird helmet. It was the Coif of Glory which has hit blinds enemies. That would go on top of the flee so it kinda cancels the effect :)
Small stash is ok and all, but i want a grail stash, where you can put an item, but you cant take it back out, its just a trophy "read only" from then on, and you can replace it with a better roll, the old one goes poof and the new one becomes the "read only" trophy. I feel like this is a simple addition that would make people play more.
Every frame WW barb, LIKE IT SHOULD BE!! It would at least jump WW barb from a Z tier to an A tier, for once. WTF did they remove it for in the first place??? Man this looks soo much more fun than post Runeword D2. Nostalgia trip for me.
1:26 this made me LOL as it was very accurate! In case you don't know you can leap attack from the edge of Upper Kurast to Kurast Causeway over the watter channel that separates them almost an entire screen jump!
No classic player likes having a tiny stash. I play classic exclusively and have never met a single person who said they were happy to have less storage. It was such a huge insult when they said classic doesn't get shared stash in D2R because classic players are purists.
i can understand this choice, it forces you to make choices because the game is still super easy in classic. But yes for long terme players who like collecting items etc its just frustrating
There's so much mechanics that became unimportant with lod 1.10; gambling, charsi imbue... Would be nice to have a pre 1.10 classic for real release experience
I remember when diablo 3 released it's expansion it really pushed the damage cap way, way up, and the fun thing I did was, I found a rare with like 2.1-2.4k dmg with "reduce level requirement" attribute, and gave it to one of my friends that didn't have the expansion. I think previously high end weapons were at like 800dmg or maybe 1k. I hope he had fun using it.
I said it before and I will say it again, D2 Classic is a better game than D2 LoD, it has some glaring issues that were solved on the expansion, but the best part of the game was lost when they introduced so many best in slot items.
Hey Llama, I'm really happy you're showcasing to your audience what classic has to offer! It's a very different experience compared to LOD itemization and I agree it makes finding simple items exciting. I play hardcore classic ladder and there is no botting going on that I'm aware of. GG items still fetch well over 500 forum gold even this late in the ladder. I'm currently #5 overall on HCCL (Kalmah). One thing I wish the devs would do is give Amazons some love. Back in 1.09 multi shot amazons were phenominal in PVM and guided arrow was a blast in PVP. They nerfed the amazons damage so bad in 1.10 that it really killed the class. Overall I recommend LOD players to give classic a try because Ladder is less competitve (no bots) and also items continue to hold their value much better.
classic needs sanctuary skill (paladin) to be fixed // (as you don't get the +undead_dmg% bonuses, so it's a waste to put more skill points into it beyond 1 for it's static abilities of: ignoring physical resistance of undead monsters and allowing for life/mana leeching of them too, and/or, if they made the aura damage stronger, either through the sanctuary skill itself, and/or, through, its cleansing synergy bonus) classic needs the dodge/avoid/evade (amazon) skills to be fixed, especially for usage with fend // (a fix already exists, they did it by removing the dodge/avoid/evade animations, as that seems to be what was causing the problems, as the mechanics of it works fine, but the graphical animations of them was over-riding the fend's hitting/damage) classic multiple shot and strafe (amazon) need to be able to do a bit more damage (either: give the bows/xbows a bit more damage, or, some synergies for multiple shot and strafe, and some for magic arrow and guided arrow might also be nice too depending on balancing of course, or, maybe just removing the -1/3% damage penalty from multiple shot and strafe, might just even be enough, maybe, lol)
Nice take, I completely agree. I also love how the usual BiS items, especially runewords, are not available. And no inventory filled to the brim with charms, no weapon swap, ... Everything you must have on a LoD character, and we take that for granted, but when you think about it it can be so tedious. With the small stash, rares being very valuable again, this feels just perfect for SSF runs. I was considering starting a few SSF characters (in HC) and after watching this I'm definitely going to do at least one in classic mode.
Strangely, I’ve been craving this very same thing recently. After thinking about ways that I could experience true classic, I discovered the “Diablo 09” community. Not only can you truly play classic with this mod, but you can play 1.09 LOD. And like many modern mods, there are lots of qol improvements such as increases stash and inventory sizes, and a loot filter and lots of other minor improvements. It’s worth checking out for sure.
Back in the year 2000 playing the old classic D2 for the first time, I feel so amazed when my barb using a random rare mace and lightning bolts comes out of it while swinging it...and frost nova emits from your character when got hit by monsters....Those were the early juvenile days... . Nostalgic.....
My favourite Diablo set will forever be Iratha’s. That thing has saved me so many classic characters in hardcore. I played HCCL for years after the expansion. I found it was too easy. And back in those days I think it was. I remember level 99’s in expansion shortly after its release for ladder climbing. On classic a level 95 was essentially a god. I never saw someone get to 99 on classic hardcore. But I have seen some legends fall.
So much nostalgia. D2 ver 1.0 was the game I remember the most fondly. WW was so OP but so much fun. Imagine going from D1 items to these incredible rares.
The problem is L.O.D was made to overpower hell-mode and make players UBER-Capable. The game is better with restrictions because classic is built around the useage of all the items. Many of the runewords should not be rune-specific level restricted, instead having a custom level restrictions. SPIRIT is not a lvl 25 weapon/shield. It's overpowered and poops on every other item at that level. Same with insight. The expansion was very well made but not fine-tuned for balance as the D2 starlight faded away as WOW WOTLK came into play 7 years after LOD's release.
I went back and forth to act 3 vendors then out of town for days til I shopped a +2 pally skills, +3 conc, +3 blessed hammer, +3 holy shield blue Sceptre (or close to that, can't remember precisely the skills). People didn't understand how hard it was and thought the item was worthless. I got several close to perfect scepters and tried to sell them without luck. But I think very few people were patient enough to shop one themselves. I was also the only hammerdin I knew or ever saw in a game back then. I thought I invented the build, and it was amazing. Max concentration and blessed hammer, max holy shield, max smite. Wear a barbed shield and used imbues on barbed shields, use smite to kill high health mobs like izual and Diablo. Redemption removed the need for mana management since mana pots didn't sell at vendors. Act 4 in 8 players games was the best places to farm. So I'd run in, round up a screen full of monsters, hammer them to death, then switch to redemption to go back to full mana. I was a junior in high school. Character was lvl 81, very high for back then. I gambled sojs and sold them for $5 each to my nerd friends in the chess club, lol. Good times man. I should log on and make a classic char!
I still remember the OP barb I had before the expansion. Eagle Prod rare lance, ***-343 damage, dual leech. Then an Ornate plate with almost 900 armor, 50 something max health, fire and lightning res, an asbsolute wrecking ball of a barb
Best thing is sorc static has no cap in NM or H. hard to find info on classic as the d2 forums are gone and not all of it is archived which is a pain to go through on archive site. Might be nice to have some videos and resources for classic. It is a valid game mode which is fun. Area and boss levels are different. For example SOJ (39) doesn't drop from NM Andariel (37). purediablo has a drop calc for classic but it is in german and hard to use. Bosses: Andariel (12, 37, 62) Duriel (22, 47, 72) Mephisto (26, 57, 76) Diablo (40, 65, 90) typical areas: *A1:* Cow (28, 53, 78) Pit (7, 32, 57) Trist (6, 31, 56) Mausoleum (3, 28, 53). *A2:* AS (14, 39, 64) TR-Tombs (17, 42, 67). *A3:* LK (22, 47, 72) Trav (24, 49, 74). *A4:* CS (28, 53, 78) So in CS the seal bosses are 81 (lvls are from old d2jsp forum post no clue how accurate the lvls are) Only normal uniques and sets. Amulet (Nokozan Relic, The Eye of Etlich, The Mahim-Oak Curio) and Ring (Nagelring, Manald Heal, The Stone of Jordan) Block on the shields means block on the char, dex doesn't give block. For Example, Twitchthroe gives flat block on top. As far as I can tell gambling doesn't have a chance to upgrade the base so only normal bases. Speaking of bases no elite bases so only normal and exceptional bases in classic. Den of Evil quest gives respec in classic. But no essences for respec tokens. No shared stash. so muling oldschool. I can't find much info on converting classic to expansion chars. Would be nice to get some info there. All difficulty ancients quests will be open so might be nice to hold onto for level 98.
yes, you can analyse txt files to sort out differences too. The beta stuff is super interresting too, the perfect version of D2 should be a mix of D2 Beta, Classic 1.0 and the recent resurected LOD
in classic, gambling CAN get rare exceptional (GG) equipment (in the gambling window/wares, it's always shown as the normal/base equipment, but when you gamble/buy it, there's a chance that it will be exceptional), but the odds of it being exceptional is like another added/multiplied (I hate math) odds/chance of like ~ 1/2000, or something like that... you got to have like a team that just gets tons of gold and they dump it all into one game, where it's used for mass/constant gambling galore... ---------- also, in classic, you can gamble rares, uniques, and sets too, but again there's the additional odds, for this to happen, so this is why exceptional rares are so low chance for gambling (you got better chance of getting unique/set from gambling, and thus, you can use gambling to get sojs, otherwise, you do hell andarial runs for sojs, as classic nm andarial's mlvl is too low to drop sojs, as classic's act bosses have different mlvls than does lod)
@@redmoonbloodmoon3161 Are you sure about the exceptional since I have never seen one.. Also I remember in LoD launch the features for gambling exceptional was a thing.. but not for Classic.
Hey, thx 4 bringing attention to classic. Just a few corrections, 200ed is max, you may have mentioned 300ed. Blue only gets 100ed. You cannot gamble exceptionals. So no ancient axe. Not that it matters too much :)
yes, +200% phys dmg is max on rares (perfect king's = +100% phys dmg and perfect merciless = +100% phys dmg), I think (some at least) uniques can have +300% (seem to have memory of seeing/having bone snap being between +200% and +300%) yes, blue/magical can only get +100% phys dmg, as blues/magicals can only get either: 1 prefix, 1 suffix, or, 1 prefix and 1 suffix in classic (and I think/imagine LoD as well), exceptional equipment DO happen with gambling, but it's further/additional low odds of it occurring (like ~ 1/2000 chance of becoming exceptional), along with also the same additional odds (like ~ 1/2000) of it becoming a rare/unique/set, so it's very seldom, especially a rare exceptional, and uber seldom, a gg rare exceptional (gambling for sojs isn't usually as bad, if you got the cash, as there's only 3 unique rings, so just got to get the odds of it being a unique, and then its just the 1/3 chance of being a soj) also, super important: you never see the exceptional graphic in the gambling window, it'll always just show/have the bsae/normal graphic, but upon gambling/buying it, there is a chance (but again, low, like 1/2000) of it becoming an exceptional
@@d8l835 It is, but different patches introduced changes even in classic, among other things mana pots. It surprised me recently to see synergies in classic but they are there since patch 1.10.
@@kizo82 I think you could craft rejuves when you couldn't buy mana potions. Maybe that's a mandala effect in play, but I remember you needed mana pots + health pots in the cube.
I totally get that. And I think I secretly prefer old school play. I lose motivation to play pretty quickly and hate farming, and not so exciting to do MF runs for days to get runes to make a RW that will be best in slot through out the game. I usually play through Hell diff with a pala and then just stop. I enjoy the dynamic, random survivability of the early game more than to be stacked up in end game with the same equipment everyone else has. Classic def has a place in my heart
Thx Mr. Lama for a little view of classic, our Clan playing since years classic and its still our Favorit. In lod every char got same Items, in classic its always a hunt for nice Items. Beside no one ever hit lvl 98 yet in classic :-)
I played the game way back in those early days , I don’t miss it. I like the current version much more. I still remember getting destroyed by IM in chaos as a barb. Not fun. That stash is also so painful to deal with.
I do love a classic run. It's more challenging with a few benefits as well such as no dex needed to invest in higher block chance. Can get it from gear and completely skips out act 5, which helps for rushing the OG five characters especially for resets. No runewords or exceptional/elite unique drops is kind of lame, but there's still classic community every reset, which is cool.
I was 14 years when I started playing diablo classic online ( ngl I thought I was younger, math proves otherwise ) I was member of the DAZ clan. I remember this one guy FCUK BARB I named after that dirty word that I shall not say here. - Just because I read it wrong He was filty rich in my eyes. Once in a few weeks he asked me to help him muling. He dropped the entire act 1 town full with all kinds of rares and all that cool stuff. Me as a kid picked everything up just to look at those and occationally asked him if I could have what I liked.
Oh man, the instant I saw that stash it was like stepping into a time machine. Installing this game on my very first PC... I SO wish I could experience it for the very first time again
That would be amazing. I remember first time playing it was in school with some friend. We had a TCP/IP game. I made a double swing barb.. I think I made it to 24 before I noticed it didn't do much anymore :)
I agree with you, but also these runewords Enigma, Infinity, spirit, grief, insight, broke the game, make people OP, dependent on these things, runewords have made most unique items in game worthless, except people doing some type of holy grail type thing..
Yeah go ahead! Some good builds: Hammerdin Blizz/Orb Sorc WW barb Amazon.. not sure if anything works well in Hell.. Bowazons are ok until End of Nightmare, Javelins are not quite the same as in LoD (no rare javelins etc.) Necro I guess summon works or Bonespear. Anything with CE I guess. I think in Hell the Bonespear works better.
When I was doing my SSF throw Barb and scored an insane rare throwing weapon it felt amazing. Definitely worth playing through the game without stacking RWs.
Having to rely a lot on rare items makes each runthrough unique in my opinion! I decided to start a character in Classic mode in D2R, because I never did back then because I always played LoD!
Getting a good rare item in loot or gamble is most satisfying in classic, limited stash space is challenging, getting cube after quest was like a achievement feeling, 12 slots more !!
@Knights_of_the_Nine you can. But with the increased difficulty of high players count and terror zones the efficiency of them vs better items (uniques, elite sets, runewords) 95% of them are obsolete. I'd rather have them be closer to that level.
Diablo 2 always made me feel excited when an item dropped. Similarly, so does Last Epoch now. Excited for their full release in a month and I’ve been playing the beta for a few weeks.
@MrLlamaSC Nostalgia is a strong weapon. It's great to bring the hard way back in the attention. Is there any website/database d2r classic related? (except Arreat Summit).
The main reason I feel like runewords are good is because it gives you something to grind for where you know when you can’t get something better. Instead of constantly looking for something with slight better affixes. And as for charms, they are like salt and pepper to a meal. Doesn’t make or break it but can add so much.
I'd wish diablo 2 never had charms. Or maybe they should be in a separate equipment slots dedicated to charms. Peak performance meaning you don't actually have room to pick up new items, is definitely anti fun. If you could equip charms in like a 4x4 space, maybe you'd actually have more fun charms too, if they truly are so important for characters success. I mean I don't really think I said anything controversial, there's a reason why diablo 2 is the only game where you fill your inventory with precious junk, just to squeeze more power out of character.
@@bezceljudzelzceljsh5799”the only game where you fill your inventory with previous junk to squeeze power out of your character” have you never played an MMORPG that has consumables or on use items lmao to say it’s the “only game” to have something like that is funny
they could have add RW with better balance, this could have added more variety with more specialized items but super hard to find, and keep cool rares etc.... They really ruined the game with too much stuff that cancelled almost all previous versions items.... But its the same for all massive games online.
classic: -------------------- final/best equipment, whatever combinations of: rares (GG), uniques, and/or sets ------------------------ limited to max of +(8-10) for all/class skills for each character (you can have more for some individual skills for some characters, such as easiest example of also having one to three of +1-3 individual skills on rare/magical wands/scepters/staffs, and there's also Kinemil's Awl sword, giving +6 to holy fire, and maybe a few others I'm missing/forgetting, meh) +2 rare weapon (2h or 1h) (amazon is limited to: +2 spear, or, +1 culwen's point sword and +1 sigon's shield) +1 tarn (helm), or for necro (helm): wormskull (+1 all nec skills) or undead crown (+3 skeleton mastery) +1 silks (body armor), or for barbarian: body armor (whatever it called) of the berserker set (+1 barbarian skills) +1 soj (ring) +1 soj (ring) +2 rare amulet (hell diablo, or gamble at clvl 86+) --------- +2 rare shield (paladin only, and requires a h1 weapon) or +1 sigon shield (set) (anyone) +2 second rare weapon (a second 1h for barbarian only, meaning his first weapon must be a 1h weapon too, unless using some swords, which even 2h swords can be used/held in h1, though this also does mean that it uses the 1h damage, and not its 2h damage) ---------- the act bosses are at different mlvls from that of LoD, for example, hell andarial is best chance for sojs, as nm andarial can NOT drop them, as she is too low mlvl in classic to drop them and there are NO mlvl 85 areas in classic --------- highest monsters (roughly): (for GG rares: kings/holy for weapons/armors, and etc affixes) diablo: 90 mlvl "the 3 seal bosses" (the 3 super unique monsters in chaos sanctuary): ~ ?? mlvls champion/unique urders in river of flame: ~ 82/83 mlvl urders (river of flame): ~ 80 mvl maw fiends (river of flame): ~ 79 mvl venom lords (river of flame / chaos sanctuary): ~ 79 mlvl ghosts/knights/mages (river of flame / chaos sanctuary): ~ 78 mlvl grotesque (river of flame): ~ 78 mlvl blood maggot (river of flame): ~ 78 mlvl --------------- hell difficulty: chaos sanctuary: area level / normal monsters in general: 78 mlvl river of flame: area level / normal monsters in general: 77 mlvl (cows: area level / normal monsters in general: 78 mlvl, but due to the quantity of TCs they can drop from, GG rares are extremely rare, as most of the cows killed are just normal cows, as champion/unique cows are very few in number and also difficult/dangerous to kill, and then there's the cow king of course, but you can only kill him once and then no more cow level, unless you got and know the ways around that, if able to kill the cow king repeatedly, he likely drops really well) ------------ in other words, equipment is very important, and stats and skills are also very tight too, so got to really place them optimally, as there's no like: +40+ skills and +massive resists bonuses (and no elite rares and no strong uniques/sets) that lod has, classic is limited to exceptional for rares and also the weaker uniques and sets --------- and getting to clvl 99 is impossible in classic, even online/mp/ladder (did anyone ever do it? lol) online/mp getting to ~ clvl 95 is probably the max... for offline/sp (and no multi-accounts/computers running; aka, limited to using only a single character during play), plan for clvl 80-85 ish (~ 80 skill points from clvls + 12 total skill points from quests), getting to clvl 90+ takes quite some work/time/runs (and no dying... lol)
Mrllamasc i need advice.....i want to play classic necromancer....there is no community here so ill have to go at it alone.....could you give me some tips on a good solo classic build for necro? I know classic necromancer would prolly be built much different from what im used to
I feel like classic has a lot of cool stuff in it, but I almost wish there was a QoL classic option too, with some of the improvements in LoD without changing it too much. Bigger stash would be nice, I do like to collect thing, but I guess there may be a mod out there that would fix that.
Back then i never went to lod and kept playing classic, thought it was so much better. Run to 99 was also so much fun, had a zon lvl 97, top 10 useast ladder.
i remember playing diablo late 2000 when a friend showed it to me. loved it then and when LoD came out i was litereally glued to the screen. one of the best games of all time. certainly the best diablo game by far. i fondly remember when Zeal hit like 15 times with one button press
This is why POE is so good... aside from a few build making uniques, almost always rare items are the best. Which means you get a better upgrade path as you craft/find better items.
starting/basic mf'ing in classic: most sets/uniques and/or rares = norm/nm of andy/meph/diablo // (norm andy is good for the low lvl uniques/sets) gull = norm cold crow (cave lvl 1, cold plains) sojs = hell andy (or try gambling for them, along with possibly getting some good rare rings as well) and of course, you can hit any of the super uniques that you can do easily and fast too for both: normal-base and/or base-exceptional (white) (for imbuing), and/or, sockets (grey) for early-mid game (like 3s: hunter-bow / melee-weapons, with gems/skulls) and mf'ing (3s helm, with topaz): cows (norm/nm/hell) if you're able to do/run the cow king multiple times, he's good for drops too, has best odds for some hard to get uniques and etc, and just in general, I do think he's just got good drops (especially hell cow king), but he's not easy to kill, and harder to be able to keep running/killing the cow king too... ------------- highest mf in classic: ~ +525% ------------ barbarian only: ~ +500% +100% (gull) +100% (gull) +75% (from tancred amulet, + tancred body_armor) +72% (3s perfect topaz helm) +40% (perfect chance guard gloves) +30% (prefect goldwrap belt) +30% (perfect nagel ring) // I think blue/magical rings can get +40%, but am not sure, meh +30% (perfect nagel ring) // I think blue/magical rings can get +40%, but am not sure, meh +25% (rare boots) -------------- all other classes: ~ +420% +100% (gull) +20% (milabrega's shield) +75% (from tancred amulet, +body_armor) +72% (3s perfect topaz helm) +40% (perfect chance guard gloves) +30% (prefect goldwrap belt) +30% (perfect nagel ring) // I think blue/magical rings can get +40%, but am not sure, meh +30% (perfect nagel ring) // I think blue/magical rings can get +40%, but am not sure, meh +25% (rare boots) ------------------- some other mf sources: +25% rare amulet +50% per/x2 angelic ring (but requires 2 other set piece types: body_armor and amulet, though you also get the massive +AR per clvl too as that only needs one otehr set piece type: amulet/body_armor, so good for melee builds, though the 3rd body_armor set piece type often gets in the way of something far more desired, sighs) and there's probably a few more that I'm missing/forgetting, meh
Classic WW makes all other melee skills trash on a design level, therefore it's game breaking and rework was 100% deserved. WW also bypasses 2 handed weapon's speed balance and it's just not fair to other attack skills & classes. Charge also bypass attack speed but it isn't fit for being a main skill can't be spammed in PVM like WW can. In LoD WW has tons of spare skill points bc no synergies. I could talk all day about how bs WW is.
I love classic as a fun distraction from the expansion, but I really wish they would have brought the large stash over to classic. The small stash has no reason to exist.
You need a guide for that? I just run through the quests and Act's. Generally you should be 28-30 in end of Act4 Normal. Then about 50 end of Act4 Nightmare and from there you go to Hell. About 70+ you can do Act3 Flayer Jungle with a Barb at least which is great in there. 75+ you should be in Act4 Hell. This progression only works for players 3+ I think. If you play with 1 player only the XP gain is much lower and you might have to rerun a lot.
Good stuff I did watch a few moments of your sessions in classic :) I'd like to see you do some other classes here also. Sorc and Pala is obvious good ones of course.. but maybe even something more difficult like Amazon :) For Durability issues.. Bonesnap in the early stage is nice because added Durability for uniques. Then it is also possible to drop a rare with 3x durability. THen we are really talking about improvement to the gameplay experience. Especially Lance is awful with 25 only.. but 75 omg.
Are D2C uniques different? Because i remember playing in pre-LOD times and many got updated with LOD patches such as 1.09 and 1.10. Most were buffed but some were nerfed, for example unique Defender called Visceratuant had significantly different stats before 1.09.

In classic, the best damage prefixes you can get ( magic or rare) are King's and/or Merciless. The best damage suffix is Slaughter. When i used to persist in playing classic while 1.09 was live, I'd look at rune words like Honor and think, "That is so freaking godly! I wish i could get that %ed on just one thing in classic. I did actually get a rare sword with over 190% ed. I was sick with disappointment because it was on an espandon. The two best weapons I ended up getting was a 249% Steel Driver and a 170% chu ko nu.
ya, getting GG rares (kings/merciless and holy, and etc affixes, for rare exceptional weapons and armors), is really hard, unless you online/mp with a team, doing fast/efficient cs runs, and/or, gf/gold runs and then rapid/constant gambling dumps... gg weapons are pretty much required for the combat builds (both melee and projectile builds), sighs, whereas the skill/spell builds, are "cheap", where most of the gear is merely unique/set...
I agree with everything you've said. But what's the conclusion? The solution? Runewords are a blessing and a curse, and for me they're more of a curse. Same with the charms. I loved the itemization of the original game, the whirlwind was my and my dad's favorite build, and in general the game felt like a dangerous but amazing adventure. But i also like Act 5, modern mercenaries, giant stash, most skill changes (except whirlwind obviously). What do we do about it? Abandon modernity and accept our savior Classic? Force ourselves to play without runewords and charms on LoD? Or getting the best of both worlds is just not feasible and we should be happy with what we have, and play a bit of both from time to time?
Classic needs a few changes to reach perfection. - Stash as big as XPack - Weapon Swap - Sin and Druid added - Jewels - Act 5 - Removed mana pots from merchants With this in tow, I'd play classic all the time and ditch the expansion in the dust. But even without all of these, classic is superior.
ask the devs to give us an extended shared stash, they dont listen to us on the forums, theres not a single classic player that doesnt want it, only xpac trolls trying to ruin the fun for us, we cant even xfer properly - dropping gear on the floor having it go poof because of a server crash
It's a bit of a "baby out with the bathwater" situation. Some things LoD introduced are basically what turned it into the true D2 experience, no questions about that. But itemization definitely took a heavy toll.
@@aurorasun-qs1pg I agree. Itemization was kinda fun in LoD launch and 1.09 except that rares really turned into worse than what it was and what I enjoyed. But overall it was nice. 1.10 . not that fun anymore imo.
I feel like when Blizzard 1st started predevelopment of Diablo 4 they should have gone back and taken a good hard look at the Diablo 3 we were shown before they changed Diablo 3 to what we actually got. The initial videos of Diablo 3 looked Like a better version of Diablo 2 in terms of graphics. But it looked like it was going to play very similar to D2. THAT is the Diablo 4 we should have gotten - 1 big step back, but a dozen steps forward. I still wonder what that D3 would have been like. I hadn't watched that old video in a long time, maybe 9 or 10 years. I forgot that it shows the Barbarian climb down a ladder in one part.
I only used to play Classic , due to rares, had top5 ladder amazon back then almost impossible to become lvl99 had a charme too. 10 months - 10 hours per day grinding and still only lvl97 ,,, if you died that was 2 weeks of grinding gone!
I love d2 classic...so many good memories from old days....Duels were much more fun and balanced....lots of Rares and Uniques are very useful at all.. You do'nt have to keep all those runes, charms...just bought LOD those days because of the 800x600 display screen.
Very cool to see you play this. Please try playing 1.00 lod next. Same kind of idea, but very different game play. And it's also extremely tough. But it's really fun farming cow king over and over again and manipulating uniques to force monster rares to drop.
zealots are not really great in hell I'm a classic player The meta builds are ww barb, blizz sorc, and hammerdin Most other builds struggle in the chaos sanctuary where you pretty much have to run to level up Bone necro is okay but more for pvp, same for fireball sorc Amazons are just bad@@redmoonbloodmoon3161
I tried Avenger with a conversion for fun, hell was a bit of a challenge, but after socketing a perfect emerald on a rare Martel & iratha set it was good.
meh.. i've always been disappointed in the way they do classic. i've talked about this to death, but...none of the fun things about it that existed before the expansion exist anymore.. no cooldowns on spells, gambling uniques was pretty common, getting SoJs was easy(because a unique couldn't drop if it already existed in the game), immunities were non-existant, crafting recipes were all different and more lucrative, many of the uniques were different and none of them had level requirements, also iirc, the only level requirement in the game existed for the exceptional versions of items(lvl 25 across everything even the best rares in the game). i mean, that's just a drop in the bucket. I played classic online for a full year before the expansion came out, and it was a LOT of fun...and it's such a shame that it's just.. gone. I've tried to play 1.0 on this computer, but I can't, the graphics get all fudged up and I'm not smart enough to fix it on my own.
logically you can easilly play 1.0 today with some dll and mod. I totally agree with you, those beta and 1.0 vibes and ideas are by far the best. Next versions improved some UI and quality of life stuff thow
@@guigomez34411.0 is kinda buggy and crazy unbalanced and I rather avoid it and play something like 1.5 or 1.6. There is a mod for 1.06 at least that allows you to launch multiple instances of the game which is great. I use for creating my own multiplayer game (TCP/IP) where I can simulate multiplay since single player games pre-1.10 are awfully easy and drop almost 0 loot and give very low XP. I got some playthrough videos on my channel if anyone is interested.
Yeah I loved no cooldown on spells, gambling uniques. No mana potions from vendors, uniques no level requirements. Rares and sets do have level requirements based on their affixes but almost all the affixes were way way lower. Exceptional items had base 25 requirement even if the affixes were lower level. You could imbue much better items already at lower levels making imbue very good and valuable. People used to level up alts to 30 and use 3 imbues on weapons. The rare rolls were generally much better. Leveling was harder and IIRC there was no real good way to leech exp from high level players. Also 8 player party was bad for XP. solo was most XP and in some cases party of 2-4 might be faster if you kill faster. I got some gameplay videos from 1.6 version on my channel. I have that glidewrapper software to make it run correctly on new OS and also some additional dll's to fix a few issues and add features.
@@akse imbues were better the higher level you were. at least, that's what i remember. people wanted level 80 before imbuing their gothic bows, exes, and lances
@@akse also, i'm pretty sure the lvl requirements for rares were capped at 25 as well. the lvl requirements based on affixes didn't come till later. also, when the patch rolled over, they automatically changed all the rares that were already in the game... for whatever reason.. so all the doom looms, etc(duped items) changed.. which i always thought was weird.
Personally I really prefer having hand-crafted BiS items (runewords and uniques) to randomly generated rares. It's just less cool to find "rare with a good mix of affixes" than "OMG I got an SoJ!" or "OMG I got a Zod rune!". Randomly generated items just feel...soulless to me.
Well in D2 Classic you still can get that feeling of a great unique drop like SOJ. Though a lot of the Uniques are kinda crappy for end game there are still a few good ones that you want to keep. There are many interesting ones in the early game before Hell but just a handful in the late game 80+. But for runes I never got very huge passion about them. I've found some great runes and I think I did find (playing solo found mostlly) runes for enigma also in early D2R launch but I don't have a good base where to use them so it's kind of a bummer.. So in away good rune drop is nice but then you need that base and all that. Or the other runes, which might take a long time to find. When you find a rare its either good stats or bad stats or decent stats or stats that are better than what you currently have. So it's always exciting to see what you get. Also the great thing about rares is that you can have many types of items with great stats. I mean you can find a good Great Helm and then you have even better Bone Helm. It's not always the same item so your appearance also changes randomly.
@@guigomez3441 Not really, there's tons of great uniques people use. Mostly BiS body armor and weapons is runewords - but everything else people generally still use uniques for.
@@akse To me, getting high runes is really exciting. Plus between getting the base and the runes, you feel like you're "building" your unique item - which is also cool Honestly, I know that ARPG "randomization" is normally one of the selling points - but honestly it's just something I tolerate. I play an ARPG for the combat, skill/stat systems, and loot chase. I don't really care for randomly generated stuff.
You can craft items also via imbue, gems reroll and horadric cube. Runewords are always the same items. Core stats never change and everybody have the same items in the end. This thing fells really soulless.
the D2 era when magic's were the best were the best Diablo 2 era, the Ethereal Cruel Colossus Blade of Evisceration, double socketed zod, eth. These were the days for me.
Back in the days that when i looted a gear and wear it right away not reading the stats😂😂 i was like as long as it looks good and it has long stats thats it😂😂😂😂
I remember back in the day when it was a matter of WHEN not IF your barb would die on hardcore to iron maiden from oblivion knights 😂
oh man you just brought back some horrible memories of iron maiden
berserk
The iron Maiden lol
Hehehe back in the… well I wouldn’t call it good ole days, but it’s just how things were before they went all soft core
even in LoD in 1.09 my zeal pally 79 hc died to a bone doll in act3 normal .
Some more info :
Good old version was 1.06b, last patch before extension. no synergies meant versatile built.
1.07 was the last pure classic patch .08 was the LoD patch
@@plummet3860 He clearly said BEFORE LoD released. 1.07 was LoD but vanilla had a 1.07 version as well.
@@plummet3860 Actually no. 1.07 was pre-patch to LoD and 1.08 was patched first day of LoD. The prepatch was horrible. Basically all LoD changes poured into old Classic with the 50% global phyiscal resistance and all. I remember my WW barb becoming obsolete over night :)
1.08 however fixed that mostly but of course immunities and all came around to ruin the original D2.
Yes technically 1.07 was the last patch but it was already with LoD changes.
Yeah I've been playing pre-lod D2 (1.06) for a while now whenever I have time for it. Been recording it also and just uploading the clips to my channel here in youtube.
Just yesterday continued to play again after a long break
I wish I had known about such community back then. I remember there was even a 1.06 battlenet copy long ago in 2004 or something. But it didn't really kickoff and was laggy and buggy.
@@vyvianalcott1681 no he said the last patch before lod was 06 and it wasnt 08 released with the expansion 07 wasnt lod
Classic is fun to run through from time to time. When the imbue misses, it hurts so bad in a "I'm 15 in 2000" sort of way
I remember to this day a buddy of mine got a damn near perfect imbue on his superior lance. High dmg, IAS, and there it was at the bottom. Hit causes monster to flee 50%...
@@mattschwinn6727 That was common. I remember one legendary hardcore barb from the early days. He had good executioner sword but we called it a "carrot" since it was orange and had a flee in it :)
But the other obvious feature you could notice on that barb was the weird helmet. It was the Coif of Glory which has hit blinds enemies. That would go on top of the flee so it kinda cancels the effect :)
Thank you for showing classic some love, it definitely deserves much more.
100%
Small stash is ok and all, but i want a grail stash, where you can put an item, but you cant take it back out, its just a trophy "read only" from then on, and you can replace it with a better roll, the old one goes poof and the new one becomes the "read only" trophy. I feel like this is a simple addition that would make people play more.
Biggest thing LOD improved on was having skele summons follow you to the next act. That hit me by surprise when I played classic summon necro.
So if you were a summon necro and went to the next act, your skeletons would disappear and you'd have to get new ones?
@@jaredbills72 yup
Even bigger: having mercs follow through acts (and resurrectable), so you aren't just leveling them up in vain :)
Yup LoD Made the Summoner Viable.
Yea, this is stupid. Also its stupid how it works now. There should be only 4-5-6 skeletons, summoned Instantly without corps...
In case you don't know you can leap attack from the edge of Upper Kurast to Kurast Causeway over the watter channel that separates them almost an entire screen jump!
same hahaha
I was saying this for years. I was feeling like a crazy one.
This!
Not a single person i know who plays classic is against shared stash
Only change I want in classic. As a classic player I am all for shared stash. All I want is one tiny tab just to mule stuff.
this
I LOVE it! And I don't usually use all of it space
There's so much mechanics that became unimportant with lod 1.10; gambling, charsi imbue...
Would be nice to have a pre 1.10 classic for real release experience
Well real not quite. I would want to have a pre-lod version and yes pre-1.10 would be cool also. But mostly I would want pre-lod version.
Overall I recommend LOD players to give classic a try because Ladder is less competitve (no bots) and also items continue to hold their value much better.
classic needs sanctuary skill (paladin) to be fixed // (as you don't get the +undead_dmg% bonuses, so it's a waste to put more skill points into it beyond 1 for it's static abilities of: ignoring physical resistance of undead monsters and allowing for life/mana leeching of them too, and/or, if they made the aura damage stronger, either through the sanctuary skill itself, and/or, through, its cleansing synergy bonus)
classic needs the dodge/avoid/evade (amazon) skills to be fixed, especially for usage with fend // (a fix already exists, they did it by removing the dodge/avoid/evade animations, as that seems to be what was causing the problems, as the mechanics of it works fine, but the graphical animations of them was over-riding the fend's hitting/damage)
classic multiple shot and strafe (amazon) need to be able to do a bit more damage (either: give the bows/xbows a bit more damage, or, some synergies for multiple shot and strafe, and some for magic arrow and guided arrow might also be nice too depending on balancing of course, or, maybe just removing the -1/3% damage penalty from multiple shot and strafe, might just even be enough, maybe, lol)
If classic had the big and shared stash from the expansion, it would be more apealing than it is..
Awesome video MrLlama!! keep on rockin bro!
You should do a full video going over every difference between the two game modes
The expansion was very well made but not fine-tuned for balance as the D2 starlight faded away as WOW WOTLK came into play 7 years after LOD's release.
they just need to nerf it or put more "per level" affix
i almost exclusively play d2 classic hardcore ladder. Wish more people played, but its fun.
i do
I only did in the first season but since then I haven't had a motivation for it. But I have played some pre-LOD single player.
Bosses: Andariel (12, 37, 62) Duriel (22, 47, 72) Mephisto (26, 57, 76) Diablo (40, 65, 90)
typical areas: *A1:* Cow (28, 53, 78) Pit (7, 32, 57) Trist (6, 31, 56) Mausoleum (3, 28, 53). *A2:* AS (14, 39, 64) TR-Tombs (17, 42, 67). *A3:* LK (22, 47, 72) Trav (24, 49, 74). *A4:* CS (28, 53, 78)
So in CS the seal bosses are 81
(lvls are from old d2jsp forum post no clue how accurate the lvls are)
Only normal uniques and sets. Amulet (Nokozan Relic, The Eye of Etlich, The Mahim-Oak Curio) and Ring (Nagelring, Manald Heal, The Stone of Jordan)
Block on the shields means block on the char, dex doesn't give block.
----------
also, in classic, you can gamble rares, uniques, and sets too, but again there's the additional odds, for this to happen, so this is why exceptional rares are so low chance for gambling (you got better chance of getting unique/set from gambling, and thus, you can use gambling to get sojs, otherwise, you do hell andarial runs for sojs, as classic nm andarial's mlvl is too low to drop sojs, as classic's act bosses have different mlvls than does lod)
@@redmoonbloodmoon3161 Are you sure about the exceptional since I have never seen one.. Also I remember in LoD launch the features for gambling exceptional was a thing.. but not for Classic.
Thank you for the nostalgia. I spent many, many hours playing d2 classic.... back when there was no LoD at all haha. The tiny stash made me giggle.
Cheers to that mate, I feel the same way. Classic D2 was completely different game.
Hey, thx 4 bringing attention to classic.
Just a few corrections, 200ed is max, you may have mentioned 300ed. Blue only gets 100ed.
You cannot gamble exceptionals. So no ancient axe.
Not that it matters too much :)
yes, +200% phys dmg is max on rares (perfect king's = +100% phys dmg and perfect merciless = +100% phys dmg), I think (some at least) uniques can have +300% (seem to have memory of seeing/having bone snap being between +200% and +300%)
yes, blue/magical can only get +100% phys dmg, as blues/magicals can only get either: 1 prefix, 1 suffix, or, 1 prefix and 1 suffix
in classic (and I think/imagine LoD as well), exceptional equipment DO happen with gambling, but it's further/additional low odds of it occurring (like ~ 1/2000 chance of becoming exceptional), along with also the same additional odds (like ~ 1/2000) of it becoming a rare/unique/set, so it's very seldom, especially a rare exceptional, and uber seldom, a gg rare exceptional
(gambling for sojs isn't usually as bad, if you got the cash, as there's only 3 unique rings, so just got to get the odds of it being a unique, and then its just the 1/3 chance of being a soj)
also, super important: you never see the exceptional graphic in the gambling window, it'll always just show/have the bsae/normal graphic, but upon gambling/buying it, there is a chance (but again, low, like 1/2000) of it becoming an exceptional

Beside no one ever hit lvl 98 yet in classic :-)
in D2R no one did but its been done in original D2
- Just because I read it wrong
He was filty rich in my eyes.
PoE2 devs - please take notes :). Runewords were a GREAT idea - but OP post 1.10 ones are broken.
I agree with you, but also these runewords Enigma, Infinity, spirit, grief, insight, broke the game, make people OP, dependent on these things, runewords have made most unique items in game worthless, except people doing some type of holy grail type thing..
This actually looks so fun. The stash is horrific but it adds to the challenge! Going to give it a shot :)
"horrific" hahah
Yeah go ahead!
Some good builds:
Hammerdin
Blizz/Orb Sorc
WW barb
Amazon.. not sure if anything works well in Hell.. Bowazons are ok until End of Nightmare, Javelins are not quite the same as in LoD (no rare javelins etc.)
Necro I guess summon works or Bonespear. Anything with CE I guess. I think in Hell the Bonespear works better.
When I was doing my SSF throw Barb and scored an insane rare throwing weapon it felt amazing. Definitely worth playing through the game without stacking RWs.
ww is NOT 1-frame (it was before some patch). it's 4 frame, regardless of weapon speed
Would be sweet if we got classic+ for diablo. Add in act 5, some of the newer uniques and lod stash with tabs.
yesss, keep this spirit with more content with same balance, could be super fun
Having to rely a lot on rare items makes each runthrough unique in my opinion! I decided to start a character in Classic mode in D2R, because I never did back then because I always played LoD!
Getting a good rare item in loot or gamble is most satisfying in classic, limited stash space is challenging, getting cube after quest was like a achievement feeling, 12 slots more !!
I think in D2R they could bring rares back at least. Maybe increase the max range of mods like ED, +life, IAS, etc.
You can't just use rares?
@Knights_of_the_Nine you can. But with the increased difficulty of high players count and terror zones the efficiency of them vs better items (uniques, elite sets, runewords) 95% of them are obsolete. I'd rather have them be closer to that level.
Just double checking, if I play classic through D2R, WW barb will hit every frame? There seems to be conflicting info on this
Diablo 2 always made me feel excited when an item dropped. Similarly, so does Last Epoch now. Excited for their full release in a month and I’ve been playing the beta for a few weeks.
Your reigniting a fire in alot of us. Keen as and MISS those days
Great video mate, definitely got me stoked to run through pre LOD again soon! :) Thanks
D2 Classic is the best version on D2 i miss the 1.06b version before LOD tho lol POE took D2 classic itemization and improved upon it
Classic Barb vs Barb duels were so good and fun
Yeah but runewords became mandatory. Gonna be hard to beat the game with just self found rares
@@aurorasun-qs1pg runewords are NOT mandatory. Misconception that too many people have
they could have add RW with better balance, this could have added more variety with more specialized items but super hard to find, and keep cool rares etc.... They really ruined the game with too much stuff that cancelled almost all previous versions items.... But its the same for all massive games online.
classic:
--------------------
final/best equipment, whatever combinations of: rares (GG), uniques, and/or sets
------------------------
limited to max of +(8-10) for all/class skills for each character
(you can have more for some individual skills for some characters, such as easiest example of also having one to three of +1-3 individual skills on rare/magical wands/scepters/staffs, and there's also Kinemil's Awl sword, giving +6 to holy fire, and maybe a few others I'm missing/forgetting, meh)
+2 rare weapon (2h or 1h) (amazon is limited to: +2 spear, or, +1 culwen's point sword and +1 sigon's shield)
+1 tarn (helm), or for necro (helm): wormskull (+1 all nec skills) or undead crown (+3 skeleton mastery)
+1 silks (body armor), or for barbarian: body armor (whatever it called) of the berserker set (+1 barbarian skills)
+1 soj (ring)
+1 soj (ring)
+2 rare amulet (hell diablo, or gamble at clvl 86+)
---------
+2 rare shield (paladin only, and requires a h1 weapon) or +1 sigon shield (set) (anyone)
+2 second rare weapon (a second 1h for barbarian only, meaning his first weapon must be a 1h weapon too, unless using some swords, which even 2h swords can be used/held in h1, though this also does mean that it uses the 1h damage, and not its 2h damage)
----------
the act bosses are at different mlvls from that of LoD, for example, hell andarial is best chance for sojs, as nm andarial can NOT drop them, as she is too low mlvl in classic to drop them
and there are NO mlvl 85 areas in classic
---------
highest monsters (roughly):
(for GG rares: kings/holy for weapons/armors, and etc affixes)
diablo: 90 mlvl
"the 3 seal bosses" (the 3 super unique monsters in chaos sanctuary): ~ ?? mlvls
champion/unique urders in river of flame: ~ 82/83 mlvl
urders (river of flame): ~ 80 mvl
maw fiends (river of flame): ~ 79 mvl
venom lords (river of flame / chaos sanctuary): ~ 79 mlvl
ghosts/knights/mages (river of flame / chaos sanctuary): ~ 78 mlvl
grotesque (river of flame): ~ 78 mlvl
blood maggot (river of flame): ~ 78 mlvl
---------------
hell difficulty:
chaos sanctuary: area level / normal monsters in general: 78 mlvl
river of flame: area level / normal monsters in general: 77 mlvl
(cows: area level / normal monsters in general: 78 mlvl, but due to the quantity of TCs they can drop from, GG rares are extremely rare, as most of the cows killed are just normal cows, as champion/unique cows are very few in number and also difficult/dangerous to kill, and then there's the cow king of course, but you can only kill him once and then no more cow level, unless you got and know the ways around that, if able to kill the cow king repeatedly, he likely drops really well)
------------
in other words, equipment is very important, and stats and skills are also very tight too, so got to really place them optimally, as there's no like: +40+ skills and +massive resists bonuses (and no elite rares and no strong uniques/sets) that lod has, classic is limited to exceptional for rares and also the weaker uniques and sets
---------
and getting to clvl 99 is impossible in classic, even online/mp/ladder (did anyone ever do it? lol)
online/mp getting to ~ clvl 95 is probably the max...
for offline/sp (and no multi-accounts/computers running; aka, limited to using only a single character during play), plan for clvl 80-85 ish (~ 80 skill points from clvls + 12 total skill points from quests), getting to clvl 90+ takes quite some work/time/runs (and no dying...
Please please please tell the devs to give us LOD stash and shared tabs in classic. It's sooooooo dumb that we don't. PLEASEEEEEE!
My biggest issue last time I tried to play classic really was the stash. It was so insanely hard to deal with I kind of gave up.
starting/basic mf'ing in classic:
most sets/uniques and/or rares = norm/nm of andy/meph/diablo // (norm andy is good for the low lvl uniques/sets)
gull = norm cold crow (cave lvl 1, cold plains)
sojs = hell andy (or try gambling for them, along with possibly getting some good rare rings as well)
and of course, you can hit any of the super uniques that you can do easily and fast too
for both: normal-base and/or base-exceptional (white) (for imbuing), and/or, sockets (grey) for early-mid game (like 3s: hunter-bow / melee-weapons, with gems/skulls) and mf'ing (3s helm, with topaz): cows (norm/nm/hell)
if you're able to do/run the cow king multiple times, he's good for drops too, has best odds for some hard to get uniques and etc, and just in general, I do think he's just got good drops (especially hell cow king), but he's not easy to kill, and harder to be able to keep running/killing the cow king too...
-------------

-------------------
some other mf sources:
+25% rare amulet
+50% per/x2 angelic ring (but requires 2 other set piece types: body_armor and amulet, though you also get the massive +AR per clvl too as that only needs one otehr set piece type: amulet/body_armor, so good for melee builds, though the 3rd body_armor set piece type often gets in the way of something far more desired, sighs)
and there's probably a few more that I'm missing/forgetting, meh
Is there anywhere levelibg guides for d2r classic? Tnx
That barb "huyaaaah!" was so natural.
hardcore classic is my favorite starter for a ladder reset. 1 shared stash tab would be amazing for safer muling :]
Good stuff I did watch a few moments of your sessions in classic :)
I'd like to see you do some other classes here also. Sorc and Pala is obvious good ones of course.. but maybe even something more difficult like Amazon :)
For Durability issues..
Most were buffed but some were nerfed, for example unique Defender called Visceratuant had significantly different stats before 1.09.
classic needs sanctuary skill (paladin) to be fixed // (as you don't get the +undead_dmg% bonuses, so it's a waste to put more skill points into it beyond 1 for it's static abilities of: ignoring physical resistance of undead monsters and allowing for life/mana leeching of them too, and/or, if they made the aura damage stronger, either through the sanctuary skill itself, and/or, through, its cleansing synergy bonus)
classic needs the dodge/avoid/evade (amazon) skills to be fixed, especially for usage with fend // (a fix already exists, they did it by removing the dodge/avoid/evade animations, as that seems to be what was causing the problems, as the mechanics of it works fine, but the graphical animations of them was over-riding the fend's hitting/damage)
classic multiple shot and strafe (amazon) need to be able to do a bit more damage (either: give the bows/xbows a bit more damage, or, some synergies for multiple shot and strafe, and some for magic arrow and guided arrow might also be nice too depending on balancing of course, or, maybe just removing the -1/3% damage penalty from multiple shot and strafe, might just even be enough, maybe, lol)
yes, my ama in 1.00 is better than my ama in d2 resurrected classic.... All other classes got synergies, ama bow dmg got nothing.
Or getting the best of both worlds is just not feasible and we should be happy with what we have, and play a bit of both from time to time?
nerf RW, boost all other items..
make charm inventory, nerf them a bit
Classic needs a few changes to reach perfection.
- Stash as big as XPack
- Weapon Swap
- Sin and Druid added
- Jewels
- Act 5
- Removed mana pots from merchants
With this in tow, I'd play classic all the time and ditch the expansion in the dust. But even without all of these, classic is superior.
agree. They need to keep mana pots away from merchants i think thow
@@guigomez3441 yup, make Energy great again !
This takes me back. I still remember my CCBQ Whirly barb.
Well only that CCBQ does not drop in Classic..
When it comes to itemization, D2 really looks like a middle ground between D1 and LoD :)
ask the devs to give us an extended shared stash, they dont listen to us on the forums, theres not a single classic player that doesnt want it, only xpac trolls trying to ruin the fun for us, we cant even xfer properly - dropping gear on the floor having it go poof because of a server crash
It's a bit of a "baby out with the bathwater" situation. Some things LoD introduced are basically what turned it into the true D2 experience, no questions about that. But itemization definitely took a heavy toll.
1.10 killed itemization not lod
Crushing blow would have made this barb so much better. It's what made ww so powerful with each frame connecting - each was a crushing blow trigger
I only used to play Classic , due to rares, had top5 ladder amazon back then almost impossible to become lvl99 had a charme too. 10 months - 10 hours per day grinding and still only lvl97 ,,, if you died that was 2 weeks of grinding gone!
#OOT Me I just really hope there will be a remake version of Diablo 1 (Diablo 1 Resurrected) 😍😍😍

I love d2 classic...so many good memories from old days....Duels were much more fun and balanced....lots of Rares and Uniques are very useful at all.. You do'nt have to keep all those runes, charms...just bought LOD those days because of the 800x600 display screen.
What is that Tulsa shirt he often wears? The only Tulsa I'm aware of is the city here in Oklahoma.
Reminds me of D3 launch with the Real $$ Auction house. Everything was about rare items. I almost sold a bow for like $5.
Would love to be able to play older versions like 1.06 with the new resurrected graphics. Wish someone would mod it.
Very cool to see you play this. Please try playing 1.00 lod next. Same kind of idea, but very different game play. And it's also extremely tough. But it's really fun farming cow king over and over again and manipulating uniques to force monster rares to drop.

I tried Avenger with a conversion for fun, hell was a bit of a challenge, but after socketing a perfect emerald on a rare Martel & iratha set it was good.
I still miss the times when WW Lance Barbs were a thing...
i would be more willing to puts around in classic if I had the slots for it, but I dont.
meh.. i've always been disappointed in the way they do classic. i've talked about this to death, but...none of the fun things about it that existed before the expansion exist anymore.. no cooldowns on spells, gambling uniques was pretty common, getting SoJs was easy(because a unique couldn't drop if it already existed in the game), immunities were non-existant, crafting recipes were all different and more lucrative, many of the uniques were different and none of them had level requirements, also iirc, the only level requirement in the game existed for the exceptional versions of items(lvl 25 across everything even the best rares in the game). i mean, that's just a drop in the bucket.
Randomly generated items just feel...soulless to me.
yes, but most D2 LOD uniques are bad... :(
Well in D2 Classic you still can get that feeling of a great unique drop like SOJ.
Plus between getting the base and the runes, you feel like you're "building" your unique item - which is also cool
Honestly, I know that ARPG "randomization" is normally one of the selling points - but honestly it's just something I tolerate.
Thats why I still play patch 1.05b to this day. Itemization is so much better and fun without runs, jeweles and charms.
the D2 era when magic's were the best were the best Diablo 2 era, the Ethereal Cruel Colossus Blade of Evisceration, double socketed zod, eth. These were the days for me.
Back in the days that when i looted a gear and wear it right away not reading the stats😂😂 i was like as long as it looks good and it has long stats thats it😂😂😂😂
Its only classic if its 1.00-1.06b, post LoD classic has been LoDified
"loDified" haha
@@guigomez3441 go back and play patch 1.06b, it's outta this world
Yes this was really a major failure of Blizzard to invent magic and rare items in order to send them to waste.
