Excellent adaptation of the Hardy Hammer. I am in the process of building a Hardy Hammer from Roy Adam's plans. I have had bilateral carpal tunnel surgery, and I need an assist in hammering. Great job. I should have mine done in the near future. Thanks for posting the video update.
Very nice video and a very cool power hammer! And nice left arm brace. I have the same one for my medial nerve tunnel syndrome wich I got from griping tongs, fullers, tools etc. As a result, I am building a version of the Roy Adams Hardy Hammer which will hopefully help with the issue.
Awesome build! Found you thru tools.net - Was playing around with a billet of O1 and mild steel this past weekend with a hammer and this really would have come in handy-
I would so buy one of these off of you. Maybe if you could tweak ram for a interchangeable die, but I ain’t too good to use a top tool. I love this prototype and would love to see what upgrades you can do with it definitely gonna subscribe
Thanks Nathan,One of these days my plan is to rebuild the thing, make it a bit bigger,Use a heavier, longer ram, build a toggle linkage, and absolutely make interchangeable dies for it.I know with the success of this prototype the final "benchtop power hammer" I make with ber everything I always wanted/needed.
Go take a look at the original video for the lil hammer.I describe it in detail, how I made it,etc I talk about dimensions and such.I really tried to explain and video it well enough that anyone with the proper skill set could go get materials and make there own IMHO. Good luck and happy smithing!
Lots of views no comments? so does this mean my fellow smiths think it a POS and dont want to hurt my feelers? or y'all think it moves metal well and just dont want to swell my mellon? haha.
I'm watching right now! That machine looks great, and it's music to my ears. If you want more views AND comments, you can post this video on our homemade tools forum; seems like you're one of us: www.homemadetools.net/forum/
@@homemadetools Appreciate your post.I just wanted to know what my peers think of the machines work...I simply dont have any experience building one of these lil hammers.I think the lil bastard hits like a beast for the size (weight) of the hammer. Yes sir must be cut of similar cloth, cause I really enjoy making tools.Next I want to build a better sander than I have now...maybe make it easier and more enjoyable to forge out some blades and finish them .I'll check out the site, thankyou.
Hey Mike this is Alex Ruiz (Forged in Fire Champion S. 5 Ep 14) I have been looking at a benchtop hammer design for texturing on my upcoming mid tech line of knives and of course for my traditional blacksmithing stuff. I like it, the only thing I would change is the ability to switch out both top and bottom dies, if the ram die was rounded over for drawing out I have no doubt it would move stuff more efficiently.
@@jr602908 Appreciate yeah chiming in sir.I agree,I use a top tool sometimes to help it draw quicker. This build was an idea, was curious what a lil hammer could do,would it be usable?interchangeable dies would be great. The ram comes up into the guide on the up stroke.I need to cut the guide for the ram, then maybe I could make some dies to swap out. There are plenty of upgrades that could be done now that I have made one and actually have used a power hammer.

Rock Mike, that's amazing. That's moving the hell outta some metal. Well done dude.
im just starting to get into hobby blacksmithing, that hammer looks like it would be a god send
for such a small machine it works well
Great little hammer really moves the metal. Any chance you made up plans for it? I'd love to have a set.
Nice Little Machine !!

I would love if you wouldn't mind giving us a better look at your hammer.

flic.kr/p/2au9ukT a pic of the pieces the hammer forged in that one heat.
How much for a parts list?
