- After visiting and training at the Gracie Academy Headquarters, James was inspired to open his own Gracie Garage, and he did! For the latest Gracie Garage of the month, we would like to introduce you to "Dream Academy" in Orlando, Florida. Within his Gracie Garage, James offers a friendly environment as well as a big screen tv to watch the Gracie Combatives lessons! Grand Master Helio Gracie's dream was to share Gracie Jiu-Jitsu with the world. In 2009, Ryron and Rener Gracie created the Gracie Garage network to make it happen. Gracie Garages are unofficial at-home training centers led by a devoted Gracie Jiu-Jitsu practitioner (of any skill level) that is commited to learning and spreading the art. Gracie Garage members access the curriculum through GracieUniversity.com, Gracie Combatives DVDs, or from a Certified GJJ Training Center. Applying for Gracie Garage status is FREE and no experience is necessary - only dedication. Once qualified, the Garage Leader will receive: 1) Early access to the Master Cycle, 2) Free training at the Gracie Academy headquarters, 3) 10% off all Gracie Gear, and 4) Free Surprise Seminars with the Gracies (if you get selected). JAMES BEJER Where do you train at? I train over at Rey Diogo in Los Angeles, at least 4 times a week after work. Sometimes I may squeeze 5. How many stripes on your blue belt?. You can see my sparring videos on my channel, I recorded a few.

i have wondered for some time now if i start jiu jitsu would my 14 years of Taekwon-do (i'm 19 years old) benefit me in any technical way ? just curious :)

Wolfsli Its a late reply but it will in a sense. Since you've take TKD for that long you already understand how to take instruction very well, you understand body movements and leverage versus just trying to power through something. All my background is martial arts is standup but BJJ feels very natural for me. Maybe I'm just an all around natural but I'm 6'1 and about 230 pounds at around 24% body fat. So any physical activity makes me tired because I have a lot of weight to lug around and I feel a lot of restrictions rolling with people because my legs are so long. Its hard to scissor sweep people because my leg has a hard time bending up to get onto their chest. Its never too late to start training though! Good luck and hope my little rant helped lol
zach spriggs thank you for the "rant" :) i know the feel of being restricted. i have something called exercise-induced asthma even though i'm in a prime shape my stamina is about useless it has gotten a little better after my military service but still not enough for training more than 1 hours with 10 minute brakes ...
