"It never repeats the same sound twice" If i remember the lyrics correctly the song is about someone struggling with a fast, constant forward moving world/life. That being said, the quote above is a beautiful metaphor for a world constantly in change. Inabakumori did an incredible job on this song!
I honestly think the use of Kaai Yuki is the part that ties it all together to complete the mood. The sniffly-sounding voicebank is very good at portraying a depressed mood that isn't overtly sad. It perfectly captures the stuffed-sinus tremble of someone who can feel just enough to be on the verge of tears, as if their subconscious is telling their body that they're sad, but they're too emotionally numb to actually relieve that tension by crying. That's how the voice never sounds particularly excited, no matter how intense the song gets.
I have learned two things from this video. 1) Why I freaking love this song so much. 2) That all you need to do is show me a picture of Rick Astley and my brain will supply the music

thought it was great how you explained song structure using easy to understand green/redlight examples instead of incomprehensible music theory language I love this song so much, though im probably a little biased :))
The MV helps visualise the rhythm very well as well with being able to shock visual and audio together creating a more impactful song/MV, that’s why sometimes the song doesn’t feel whole withought the MV as well
I'm autistic and I start humming any song that gets stuck in my head on random without realizing, my friend at school asked what I was humming and now we listen to it together lol
As an aspiring musician who is planning to make new songs, this video sure as hell made me consider what can be done to make songs and music in general so interesting I love Inabakumori and his songs always had this flair to them that I quite didn't fully understand, but obviously with this vid that helped a lot Epic stuff
I also enjoy the slight difference in the animation during the last chorus (like at 5:02), where it subverts your expectations using material you've already seen before, but in a place you don't expect it, where it breaks the pattern that's been established through the rest of the song.
I *love* how easy you made it to understand for peeps like me who just go ooga booga brain whenever a banger comes on. The Red Light Green Light part really helped me focus on what you were talking about! Stellar analysis, definitely couldn't stop myself from jamming out during the example sections.

I originally listened through Lagtrain because the music video was a joy to watch. Thanks to you, I now know why I listened to it an additional many times after that
man, inabakumori is one of my fav vocaloid producer out of many, probably on top 2 (my top 1 Harumaki Gohan) everytime inabakumori release new music, it gave me the fresh feeling unlike other vocaloid producer like Deco*27, etc where you could feel or hear their similarity on most of their song, also i like how inabakumori plays with his instrument on every song, its funky and kinda repetitive but random at the same time, really nightmare for us, rhythm gamers. I like your analyzations man, i hope inabakumori would get popular as vocaloid producer coz he's/she's really underated.
bruh aint nobody gon talk about the ending of the song, not like the last chorus but the just like the last drums and plates mess that concludes the song going at a point so high and then straight up dropping it all by ending the song. thats always so satisfying to hear
I'm so pleasantly surprised when you choose the two other songs that represents a banger final chorus as those two (Ado - Ussewa & Jin - Additional Memory) are one of my favorites songs that I always love for their banger of an ending! You took the examples right out of my mind!!
Been a little bit since I listened to Lagtrain, thank you for giving me a reason to dig it up again. Inabakumori's entire vibe is ridiculous, it's just something else entirely. It started with me discovering the above, and now I wait, on hand and foot, with bated breath, for each new composition, fully secure in the knowledge that whatever they create next will be the musical equivalent of finely woven silk. What a ride, man.
The videos have a lot going for them too. The grey and black motif gives a good base for visual flare, eg the white replay in Lagtrain and Rainy Boots, or the occasional color between illustrations. The animation itself is masterful in how efficient it is, telling a story in a subtle but rewatchable way.
Nice lifehack: if you like Lag Train so much you came here, you'll probably also like some of Inabakumori's other works, so go check them out! Also, easter eggs: there were some fragments from Rainy Boots (レイニーブーツ)'s animation too, which made it play in my head.
This was really well put! The stoplight comparison actually really helps put it into perspective in an accessible and easy to understand way--you just kinda *get* it. I have respect for channels that go deep into music theory but I frequently find myself overwhelmed, so when people are able to just find ways to appeal to what just inherently makes sense to me as a listener I'm much more engaged. Another aspect of this song that I love is how it contrasts these moods of melancholy and almost a sense of anxiety with the powerful resolution and catharsis that the choruses bring. That somber, tense, brooding atmosphere just contrasts so nicely with those drops and suits the anguish of the lyrical content. Also? I'd totally watch a video on that fallout boy album. I have things I like about the album but there's also stuff about it where it's like... there's *something* bugging me here but I don't know what. (But I think a big one is the general lack of cohesiveness and just overall being all over the place)
I definitely plan to talk about Fall Out Boy at some point in the future! They're a super important band to me, and I really want to share that with my audience eventually. Thank you for expressing interest in something like that lol.
This is very well produced i was surprised to see how little views it had. I wish you included more examples from the song to showcase your points, but thats more of an opinion than a criticism (yt copyright system and all that). Very impressive and ill be stick'n around for more
Lagtrain became my favourite song after listen to it last yeah. It's unique style in its music, lyrics and art draws you in and never lets you go. Inaba cumori is a genius and became my new favourite producer of all time right next to Neru.
Seeing u use additional memory on the background of like the video made my brain shortcurcuit a little because that song genuinely drives me insane in the best of ways not only because of how Good it is but because of all the sentiment that it carries if u actually Know what's going and and its just HHHHHH. good soup.
I love this video because this is the level of pure ecstasy I get from small moments in songs that I totally love and get. Something I’ve been doing for years is picking a small instrument or pattern in the background of a song and following it throughout because those details are honestly insane sometimes awesome video all around man
I wish there were more videos like this, I'd love to hear why powapowa-p's songs scratch my brain in just the right way. (Pretty much all of his songs are a hit for me, that style's just resonated with me, and it's hard to find other songs like that. Although I'm sad he's no longer around to make more, It's ok, because he's left enough music to be remembered, and enough for me to cycle through for the rest of my life without getting tired.)
Found this video while searching on reddit, good stuff. As someone who likes all of inabakumori's songs, his "red light green light" style really clicks with me (I personally call them fake outs because of listening to songs like NON-USE) because a pause of silence can create a lot more impact. I've composed music before I had heard of inabakumori, but he definitely is one of my main inspirations in music now. With almost all of inabakumori's songs, I sense intensity (the exceptions being his newer songs: ex. Hello Marina and Post Shelter) and a couple (or many) drops of sadness/sorrow (with Hello Marina and Post Shelter, a feeling of hope replaces that). One thing I love about Lagtrain is that each chorus something new is added. Example is the slight difference in the two parts of the second chorus (4:14): the second part (4:30) of the chorus adds a guitar that plays in the right ear, which the choruses before that didn't have. I often find these small differences through multiple listens of the song, which makes inabakumori's music all the more enjoying to listen to because this adding of new musical layers makes the song complex, but also keeps it simple due to the base still being there.
I’m so glad this song and the artist got a lot of traction recently. I felt so lonely a year ago when this song was just released, cuz back then I was so surprised when I saw there is only 10k ppl who watched this masterpiece of a song. I will always be thankful that my UA-cam algorithm for recommending this song, and now I’m so happy that the artist got the attention they deserve :D
I found Inabakumori's music somewhat recently and my playlist has quickly been filled with just about every single one of their songs. Their songs are just absolutely amazing
I'm amazed how viral Inabakumori became. I got into him when he was new to UA-cam and I knew him as that one guy who made obscure Kaai Yuki songs... Fast forward a few years and suddenly I hear his song on TikTok, everywhere, millions of views -- Fucking crazy, and makes me very happy for him to have gotten recognition for his wonderful music. Great video. I know nothing about music, just that 'it's catchy', but this is fun to learn about!
2 years late...... ima say it anyway i listen to music the exact same as you and i absolutely love that part that you described as the "big red" the complete cut almost seperates you from the song and immerses you in the lyrics just to go give you that wake up slap as if you were about to doze off or something. for me that cut lasts FOREVER sometimes and i absolutely love it because of that
I'm just so happy that even though Inabakumori san changed his music style compared to his time at niconico as Michou P/PUKARI/InabaPukari, He's still a genuinely an amazing producer and continues to be one of my all time favourite for the last 10 years of my time in the vocaloid genre
Surprised I got recommended this despite the surprisingly low amount of views it has, I definitely like this documentary format, you should do more of these like the rise of ado one
I remember the first time I listened to ラグトレイン... I was sitting in my car, just looking for new VOCALOID music to listen to, and I stumbled across the black-and-white beauty that is 稲葉曇. As I listened to the song for the first time (know that I speak Japanese), I heard just one line... "ポケットで握りしめて" (best translated by Will Stetson: "I find that to pocket them [lost words] will keep them all alive). I don't know why, but from that point in the song, I was just listening to the most beautiful song I had ever heard.
I always find these song analysis’ to be so enjoying cause no one does it and when they do, it’s a perfect detail-to-detail and explanation that is so compelling to agree and even more compelling to enjoy the song. That or just someone’s genuine joy with a song, but in this case it’s both!
Finally, I found someone who explained it for me, after finding out this song I got hooked on inabakumori music and after that in vocaloid in general (only a few but still)
I first heard Lagtrain two days ago and just stumbled upon this video while watching random meme edits of the song (as one does). I'm going to pretend that I understood more than 10% of what you said and wholeheartedly agree. In any case, you've earned another subscriber. Keep up the good work, my dude!
From the time I first started listening to Inabakumori and looked up this video to now me being obsessed I can not believe I forgot to like this video until now
Also the art is just really really good, like I legit have that part with the hand motion with the screenfull of white after images doing the hand motion as my banner on Twitter, the art is as addicting as the song.
Amazing content! I can't really articulate well why I like certain songs since music was never really my forte. Your content really help put it in perspective. Thank you.
I think it's worth mentioning that her character disgn breaks expectations because her character disgn is clearly based on the emotionless kuudere archetype and the beginning part of her sleeping adds to that kuudere feel by being cute but not expressive a large part of the kuudere appeal then suddenly when the Instruments come in and song really begins to start she starts moving in way that's very expressive not like a stiff emotionless and robotic manner that you'd expect from her disgn and beginning the beginning with only thing keeping to that emotionless thing is her face but this actually adds to expressiveness in a way by making her movement even more noticeable meanwhile giving this rather unique duality with her disgn and the animation.
Found out about inabakumori in about August 2021. Lagtrain has been my addiction for long now. It's just a masterpiece imo. SO GOOD every time. Listened to his other stuff too, really nice and Rain boots have a similar feel to Lagtrain. :D
Great video! I loved the way you explained the way Inabakumori uses tension in this song - I'd been trying to find words to explain it myself but just didn't have them. Personally I like Lost Umbrella more but Lagtrain is still a certified banger with an immensely creative music video that does so much with seemingly little
i can’t believe i’m two years late to this video, but i am also late to lagtrain as well :( i wish i was earlier to lagtrain so i could have watched this video sooner, because it has changed the way i listen to music i first listened to lagtrain a few months ago when a cover artist i like sang it, and fell in love, then i watched this video i never knew how to put it into words but the push/pull analogy sums it up perfectly, the song is such catharsis and now i’ve been able to explain why i like so many of the songs i like i was listening to devils manner and realize a similar thing is done there as well, and it made me think back to this video thank you for sharing your thoughts and insight on this 🙇
My favorite part of Lagtrain is the melody to the chorus because it's catchy and because (Opinion part) I think that part where she sings the end of the chorus and it leads back to the instrumental, the melody she sang there made it feel like she missed the train, it sounds something like "Now, I'll just have to watch every train until my ride comes again", it sounds like the chords changed to minor
Found that song a couple days ago and I just can't have enough of it. Really Nice Video, this will definitely help me to pay more attention to detail on songs. Nice editing as well, you earned my Sub
I kinda love how that feeling, that entire listening experience has been put into words, because frankly, I didn't have them for how this song well and truly hooked myself and so many others. Thanks, tho, I now have "Big Red" followed by "HUMUNGOUS GREEN" as mental concepts, now
This was awesome, It - as you suggested it might even, truly did give me a new way to view the song, and it was such a fun video that my attention just clung onto. I loved your commentary, and editing, thank you!
about 4 or 5 months ago i started this video after it was randomly reccomended and decided i wanted to listen to lagtrain first. i forgot about this video, listen to every inabakumori song, bought a couple and only just remembered this video. ty for showing these incredible songs to me.
Lagtrain is awesome man, though if I should pick something about the video that I liked the most was your enthusiasm when you talked about it. Really cool video
this was the first video i'd ever seen from you and it was freakin amazing!! your script-writing is insane - just listening to you explain the song gave me chills and now i've got lagtrain brainworms all over again 💀 i'm really glad i found your channel, you're awesome!!

I honestly think the use of Kaai Yuki is the part that ties it all together to complete the mood.

good video
Finally, I found someone who explained it for me, after finding out this song I got hooked on inabakumori music and after that in vocaloid in general (only a few but still)
Loved recognizing all the songs in the background, inabakumori has so many bangers
Great vid!
This was a really good video! Also thank you for putting subtitles on this
Mentions sad lyrics - Cut to Ayano - Ends Video.
I mean, lag train feels like an actual train. The down moments are stations, then the chorus is the travel.
first video of seen from this channel and it’s great! definitely agree, lagtrain is sooo amazing
Great video! I loved the way you explained the way Inabakumori uses tension in this song - I'd been trying to find words to explain it myself but just didn't have them. Personally I like Lost Umbrella more but Lagtrain is still a certified banger with an immensely creative music video that does so much with seemingly little
This is a super underated video from a super underated UA-camr, you deserve my subscription.
This is amazing. Keep up the good work
i think a lot of japanese music does the red light green light thing and it genuinely never gets old it gets me every single time without fail
i can’t believe i’m two years late to this video, but i am also late to lagtrain as well :( i wish i was earlier to lagtrain so i could have watched this video sooner, because it has changed the way i listen to music
i first listened to lagtrain a few months ago when a cover artist i like sang it, and fell in love, then i watched this video
i never knew how to put it into words but the push/pull analogy sums it up perfectly, the song is such catharsis and now i’ve been able to explain why i like so many of the songs i like
i was listening to devils manner and realize a similar thing is done there as well, and it made me think back to this video
thank you for sharing your thoughts and insight on this 🙇
My favorite part of Lagtrain is the melody to the chorus because it's catchy and because (Opinion part) I think that part where she sings the end of the chorus and it leads back to the instrumental, the melody she sang there made it feel like she missed the train, it sounds something like "Now, I'll just have to watch every train until my ride comes again", it sounds like the chords changed to minor
Found that song a couple days ago and I just can't have enough of it.
Really Nice Video, this will definitely help me to pay more attention to detail on songs. Nice editing as well, you earned my Sub
I just discovered your channel through this video and you honestly deserve more views!
I kinda love how that feeling, that entire listening experience has been put into words, because frankly, I didn't have them for how this song well and truly hooked myself and so many others. Thanks, tho, I now have "Big Red" followed by "HUMUNGOUS GREEN" as mental concepts, now
This guy needs more subs, he deserves it
I think you got blessed with the algorithm my man, just waiting till this bombards recommendations :D
Thank YOU, I appreciate it so much! I'm really glad that I was able to introduce you to new music that you enjoy!
@@MeltySolid enjoy it i do. every song they make is unbelievable good.

came here from your unmei video and god i love the way you explain stuff its so varied and real. subscribed
Well, I'm glad I'm not the only one overanalyzing songs. Great video and high quality too, keep it up bro
Lagtrain is awesome man, though if I should pick something about the video that I liked the most was your enthusiasm when you talked about it. Really cool video
Yo man this puts into words the feelings I get off this song man thanks for the great work!
this was the first video i'd ever seen from you and it was freakin amazing!! your script-writing is insane - just listening to you explain the song gave me chills and now i've got lagtrain brainworms all over again 💀
i'm really glad i found your channel, you're awesome!!
Listen man, if you think you were late to the song, I got hooked 2 days ago and only looked it up because I remembered an among us.
Humongous green is something i never thought i would read
Thank you for explaining me why i couldn't stop listening to it for 5+ hours.
Also I really like your video editing style 👍
Lagtrain is really catchy.
That's a really *solid* recommendation
I want to see a music theory person gushing over how genial this is.
Underrated video :) The explaination is top notch high gear far tower deep waters nice memes
Ive always been thinking about why lagtrain was so good. Thank you for explaining it to me.
In all honesty, i only remember me bopping my head to the music. I forgot everything you said.
The way the song stops and starts going again
It's much like a train stopping at a station
music critics:
me: this sounds good to my ears
Love this video, love this style
you gained another sub, keep it up man !!!
Ay man that was a really good vid, felt like a vid i'd normally watch from a youtuber with bigger view
Only to be shocked to find out you didn't have as much as i thought
Fam keep the good work 💪
I knew I recognized your username from somewhere. You made 'the meteoric rise of ado.' Clearly, you aren't a one-hit wonder. Can't wait to see your channel grow over time.
This is such a good explanation, I love this song so much the TENSION is just so juicy and makes the brain go brr
changing up the flow at the end up of a 4-bar phrase to lead into the next phrase is actually VERY common in music
dude im so glad i wasnt the only one who likes those short pauses in songs
Really really reaaaaally good video bro!
