Yes, that's right! Trainiac Productions caught TWO New Jersey Transit P40BH locomotives and TWO PL42AC locomotives while railfanning between Hamilton and Princeton Junction Stations! In this action-packed video, you will see everything from P40s to ALP44s; AEM7s to ALP46s! We'll take a ride aboard one of New Jersey Transit's Comet V coaches, getting off at historic Princeton Junction Station. There, we'll see tons of Northeast Corridor action -- most notable of which being a New Jersey Transit ACES (Atlantic City Express Service) train doing an Emergency Brake test ... right in front of our cameras! Sincere thank you to my Grandmother, who braved the bitter cold on this day so we could catch all of these trains. She is one in a million.
So please, relax in a comfortable chair and grab a drink -- because this is one Trainiac Production that you won't want to miss!
    [I hope!]
Please Note: This is my first video with narration! Let me know how it sounds!

What an incredible legacy the PRR left behind with the Northeast Corridor. Probably couldn't be built today. Runs like clockwork too.

Thanks very much, Trainrider1031. The Metroliner I mentioned was a test train conducted by Penn Central in 1965. The test was successful, but made PC realize that several track straightenings and adjustments were needed to make the NEC okay for high-speed action. As for the PL42s, I am not entirely sure. Possibly RVL moves, but I will not say for sure. Thanks again!

Thanks very much! I'm glad you enjoyed it. Yes, the ACES trains begin revenue service on the 9th of February. The exteriors have been repainted into the ACES theme, and the interiors are incredible. Seriously -- coach has leather seats with great headrests. First class has leather seats that are so wide you can probably fit two people on each seat. Plus, there is a lounge car that offers snacks and beverages. This is one train NJT will be proud of!

Seriously, this was your best video EVER! I knew NJT was going to start running ACES soon, but I didn't know when. Now after seeing these test runs, I'm guessing they will be starting official service by the time Spring rolls around. What caught my eye here were the repainted Bi-Level cars. I had no clue NJT would repaint them for this service. I wonder if the interiors are different too. Another interesting catch in this video was at 2:23 with the 5 car Regional. That's rare!

On the last page of the book, there are "Tips for traveling on Amtrak". Tip 9 is "Look for scenic photo opportunities. Our trains pass many beautiful and interesting sights, so bring your camera. If you use film, we recommend medium speed (ISO 200 or higher)".

First of all, another excellent production!
Second, I really enjoyed the narration. In fact, I'd suggest a little more narration, ID'ing the various locomotives, particularly for those of us who don't live near the NEC, and aren't familiar with electric power.
Finally, I assume the "no photo" remark by the conductor was for security. I think it's bunk. Do you ever get hasseled for taking pics at the stations? What's next....asking to see your papers?!?
    Thanks again!
    Mike

Yes it was.. and yes they can! They use the electric engine (ALP44M) under the electrified track (New York to Philadelphia),then the diesel (P40BH) to Atlantic City over the nonelectrified zone.

The power change is why it has a diesel up front with an electric on the back. The diesel acts as a cab on the NEC up to Philadelphia, then the electric locomotive lowers its pantograph and the diesel takes over for the run to Atlantic City.

They look pretty similar.. but the PL42 has an EMD 16-710G3C-T1 prime mover and is made by EMD and Alstom, whereas the P40 has a GE 7FDL16 and is made solely by General Electric.

Lounge cars? Man that's going to be something. After hearing that information, I really want to ride this. How many ACES will NJT run daily? Because I get the feeling this service will be competition against a few Regional and Keystone trains between New York and Philly.

not all ACES is electrified, thats why Electric brings up the rear allowing it to reach Penn

That was in fact not a PL42AC locomotive, that was a GE-P40DC locomotive bought from Amtrak last year. That would be a ACES (Atlantic City Express Service) brake test train, that will be for the new ACES service coming up in a few months, and those multilevels are Comet VI multilevels, the same they had, just in new ACES paint, those will only go on the ACES service and nothing else on the ACL and NEC, and some NJ Transit painted cars will be part of that service too, with the PL42AC.

Nah A P42DC Switch the traction motors to AC slap a third rail shoe on there. Then just add a pantograph. Upgrade the HEP and lengthen the locomotive to have the electrical equipment and increased fuel storage. Bam A P42AC-TM A triple-mode beast that would be freakin amazing but amtrak doesn't have money for an insane experiment like that
