Worth noting, you never need to play explosive potion to improve a split. Because it’s spread damage, playing it after the split is just as good, so you can save to potion and decide if you need it later in the fight
@joshuanewell4316 Right, but... let's say it's currently 50hp and splitting. If you use the explosive potion it goes to 40 hp and splits. If you let it split at 50 THEN use the potion it's the same result, both slimes at 40. It is theoretically better to wait since there's no difference and you might find a world where you don't end up needing to use the potion at all if your next draw is really good.
@@babahabatI believe they are referring to the boss and the first split. When you are facing 2 slimes that both still need to split. In that situation the explosion is more valuable. That’s why you should use it after the first split.
@@voss9842 I mean, I believe the logic still trickles down all the same. Whether you're hitting the first singular enemy, the first split of two, or the final four... You're STILL effectively doing the same amount of damage if you're splitting them with it since any subsequent slimes will have less health due to the damage you did to the prior set. With that in mind, the later you can hold out before using it the better since you may discover you don't need to use it at all.

I've done ascension 20 defect and half of this was also new to me still, but mainly fundamentals like the rare card chance rather than the deckbuilding aspects
Not the biggest brain take in the world, but: I guess one thing that makes ascension 20 quite special is that it's much harder to make decks around the act 3 boss. In other ascensions there's only 1/3 chance the boss will hard counter your deck, like if you run a power heavy deck against the chosen, or a claw/ftl/rake/all for one build against a time eater. But in 20, that's a 1/3 chance you WON'T get a given boss. So you have to be so much more careful about deck building. Probably something mentioned somewhere in the... two and a half hours :B
My first ascension (which was prior to watching this video) consisted me ditching my relic for a boss one. I got the coffee. It was so op, and it helped me get used to not really sleeping at camp sites
As a new player trying to figure out The Defect character, this video is really helpful, although the more i learn about the game, the more i realise you can play really well... but if RNG isn't on your side then the games going to shit on you.
Agree, to an extent. I think getting better involves thinking creatively to make the most of poor RNG (Although of course there is sometimes nothing you can do)
I like to full send the rng and spam those question mark rooms + roll dice as much as possible on relics from elites. It's more fun than taking those early monster fights but it's too bad the elites in ascension 20 could easily end the run early. If I actually want to win.. it feels like finding paths with tons of campfires is an easy way to do it
I feel like in this game though there is a lot you can do to minimise the rng once you learn all the backend stuff like what elites and enemies spawn on each act, all the event probibilities etc. Also just learning enemy patterns.
Yeah I mean I just started so I just try like 3 builds each character spec into whatever my cards seem to be but I watched some dude who’s insanely good and he’s saying you should realistically win 50% of your matches an I win like 1 in 20 lol

What's actually pretty cool is you said, "do we want to draw here, no because what if we draw buffer". Then the next card you draw is literally buffer and if you would've went for a 0 draw, you could go on to lose the fight. Amazing!
I nuked the collector with Defect. I had spinning top and mummified hand as relics. As well as a upgraded Storm so I always started with it, a couple Heatsinks0 and Rebounds, Amplify And Hologram. Basically spent the entire fight constantly drawing cards and regaining energy just to draw more cards and passive procing thunderbolts. God that build was so fun
