We spend around $500 to 700 a month on groceries as a family of 3 😭 Mind you, we only do cereal for breakfast (we're not breakfast people) and my husband has sandwiches for lunch, I just do a protein bar. So this is essentially only dinner costs plus snacks. 3yrs ago we could go to Costco and buy a bunch of "extras" like clothes, fun home items, etc and the "higher" bill would be $250-300. Now, I just buy essentials, no extras, and the bill is $300-350 😢
We're right there with you at around 700 a month. We do a mix of Walmart and Costco now to help keep costs down. It's crazy how expensive just basic food has become. :(
I'm in New Zealand, and our groceries at the beginning of the year was $200 but now it's gone up to $300NZD and that's only getting the necessities and we run out 1-2 days before shopping day. Doesn't include dog food. The weeks we need to get nappies and formula I have to take out other items to keep it at 300. Keep in mind this is only about 3-5 bags, and our cupboards and fridge still look relatively empty! I cook every night (other than the odd takeaway). 2 adults, and 3 kids aged 7, 2 and 3 months old.
I'd love to see your dinner meal plans! I'm in NZ too and I struggle to keep the grocery budget under $350-400pw, and it's just my husband and toddler and me! It's stressful to find the right balance between eating healthy with lots of veges and variety and spending less on groceries, when even 'cheap' meals are expensive too!
@bethanybelle1059 it's definitely a struggle! I online shop at New World (wish I could shop at pak n save but no delivery). I add everything we need or would like and it's always around $600, then I have to halve it 😭 I hate cooking amd try to stick to easy meals 😅 I make enchiladas and bulk the mince up with kidney beans, lentils, carrot, peas, frozen spinach. we have enough mince left over for spaghetti bolognese the next night. Sheppherds pie with heaps of frozen veggies is a big hit with my kids, there's usually enough for the next day, home made burgers, satay chicken with steamed veggies and rice or mashed potato, a cheap easy meal is also baked beans and mashed potato. Lately I've been adding some finely chopped frozen veggies to the baked beans, the kids haven't noticed. We eat the same foods each week, I'm a stay at home mum and usually skip out on breakfast & lunch unless we have enough leftovers. I try to buy whatever is on sale and seasonal for fresh fruit and vegetables otherwise heaps of frozen veggies. I should mention my partner spends an extra $50 to buy lunch while he's at work, he's a truck driver so never has access to a microwave. I'm dreading the day all 3 kids are teenagers, no idea what our grocery bill will look like then 😅
@@MetBySunlight thanks so much for all of that! I totally forgot about just a simple baked potato.. such a great easy meal! Your ideas are going on next week's meal plan for sure. I'm at the place where it feels like we eat the same thing all the time, I'm too frazzled to think of new ideas! Thanks for replying - much love from Ōtautahj, ki a pai tō rā! ❤
I’m in the US and struggle to spend less than $200 a week. We started setting the budget to $160 but I’ve noticed we usually go over that, and if we don’t we end up having to get takeout once or twice, which isn’t cost effective at all but it’s a nice break from dishes and cooking. We used to spend $300 a month…
This was a great video! I loved how you structured it, very easy to follow. We're in Canada (Ottawa) and prices here are even crazier. I"ve found using Walmart delivery for weekly essentials and then buying all our meat protein from Costco has been a good arrangement. I'm a little jealous of all your out of the house family meals haha that must save you quite a bit!
Thanks for this video! You definitely inspired me to pay attention to how much I'm spending on groceries and I'm going to try out meal planning and budgeting finally 😁
I'm inspired to try out a similar plan for our family. We've definitely been feeling the impacts of inflation in our grocery budget. Would love to see any tips/tricks you have for reducing food waste for your 2 littles!
We are family of 4 my boys are same age as yours and our grocery spending a month is about the similar. I feel like we’re not spending money on things we don’t need or don’t really use and throw away but I also feel like we started spending more on “snacks” even if it’s fruits or yogurts. Do also personally feel that people who cook at home more are able budget better when it comes to groceries. And often think that because we cook what society considers healthy balanced meals we probably sometimes spend more on fresh produce or things like that what are not over processed.
$800 a month for a family of four is phenomenal! We're in Ottawa and spend $1500 a month on groceries not including household items. My kids are 6 months and 2 years old. We were trying to keep it to $1000 a month but consistently went over so now we just budget for it.
We're in Ottawa as well and we're spending about $130/week - I found it necessary to stop going to our local grocery store because the prices were getting way out of hand lol. So now we do a Walmart order once a week and we've been pleasantly surprised by the quality, especially because we buy mostly organic. I actually just posted a video today about how we meal plan as a family of 3 with a 2 year old haha. ;)
How much does weekly takeout add to your budget? This is really impressive! I’m glad you talked about breakfast and lunch because I was wondering how you all survive on what you were showing
For take out are you doing fast food or things more like Chinese, sushi etc? We do take out every other week instead of once a week but then it's more expensive take out like Chipotle, sushi, that kind of thing vs subway/burgers n fries/etc
I am in Burnaby and not going to lie, the No Frills bill and the amount you got made me depressed 🤣 I remember being able to get so much more for that cost there before RIP
Somehow my family of 4 (husband, myself, 2.5 and 8 month old girls) go through like 12-14 bananas a week. I dont even know how. None are ever wasted lol
Thats too much for me...pasta and diferent souses i make a lot(bolognesse, beshamel, mushrums in cream sos) much rise with vegies,so much meals from potatos and cabage salats they are cheap... You can do it better and cheaper :D
Okay my little family of 3 is like triple this and we don’t eat out hardly at all. 🥲 I’ll have to look into how we can save some more but I’m still really struggling!
We're a family of 3 as well and we used to be spending close to 2000/month. Now we're down to about 700/month and we bu mostly organic from Walmart and Costco. I'm always looking for tips on how to save even more haha. ;)
@@JuliaRaeConnor ahhhh how did you possibly get down to $700? That’s our goal! Do you get the majority of foods from Walmart and supplement with Costco? I feel like I can’t walk out of Costco without spending $200 each time 🫠 I’m very pro-organic but I’m having to remember that eating conventional whole foods is better than processed. I’m trying not to stress. 😂

Inspiring me to implement something similar. Seems like the best way to utilize Costco.

This is so helpful and realistic! Thanks for sharing
Great video! Would you be willing to share a link to the meal planning/shopping list template? Thanks!
Thanks for doing the currency conversion! We also purchase a portion of a cow --- it saves so much money and I feel better feeding it to my family!

Planning meal also made us save quite a lot on groceries! It is getting soooo expensive!
Super random but could you do a video on where you get your clothes from? They’re so cute!!

Family of 6 here and we are coming in under 200$ every week! It’s difficult!

Looks like Canadian prices are similar to Australian.

😂 I was thinking the same thing! And only buying one orange or carrot wouldn’t last us a day let alone a week
I'm so jealous that you only have to make 3 meals a week😭
💚
The cost of groceries is unreal! $200 every trip to the store.
Canadians say “produce” funny.

The one apple and one orange a week kills me 😂. My 2 yr old literally just ate 3 apples after breakfast/ before lunch this morning. 🫠
Hahaha don’t get me wrong, we go through a lot of snacks. Those are the things that rook just likes to pick out himself in the store 😄
