How about Sid James in Quatermass 2 (Enemy From Space in the US)? Great comic actor from the Carry On Films giving a heroic turn. This film set the template for early 70s Doctor Who.

I've had a top five for some time. The top three are pretty much in stone. 1. Twins Of Evil: I think this one has everything from two sexy lead actresses to witchcraft to a brilliant Harry Robinson score. I even wrote a song about it produced by Mike Johnson who engineered Joy Division's Closer. 2. The Devil Rides Out: I love this film and had Twins Of Evil not existed it would be No.1. 3. Blood From The Mummy's Tomb: This and the Universal original inspired some of my college film The Moonlight Tapes. As did a documentary I will recommend Legend Of The Witches. 4. Vampire Circus: This was notable for being one of Doctor Who star Lalla Ward's early screen appearances. 5. To The Devil A Daughter: This one gets dissed but it reminds me of the best Black Sabbath albums in its visuals and meaning. 6. The Vampire Lovers: Madeline Smith mais oui. 7. Hands Of The Ripper: a great turn from fellow Welshie Angharad Rees. 8. Lust For A Vampire: Yutte Stensgaard why else 🤔 9. Demons Of The Mind: When I first saw this I thought it was Roger Taylor from Queen playing Gillian Hills' brother. It plays very much like the latter's TV vehicle The Owl Service a psychological children's series based on the book by Alan Garner. 10. The Witches: an underrated Hammer Horror similar to The Devil Rides Out.
...Yeppers , I keep the shows so I can recap when needed ! ....Pete and your ensembles are Epic ! Thanx for SOT and MD and the ongoing Progressive shows .....Cool Cool 😎 !
Surprised no one picked, Twins of Evil one of my favs. Others i really like doctor jekyll and sister hyde, curse of frankenstein, brides of dracula, dracula prince of darkness, horror of dracula, dracula has risen from the grave, vampire circus. Excellent show great to see americians, loving the hammer movies.
Twins of Evil definitely belongs in any essential top 10..lovely sets design..eerie atmos and Cushing. Vampire Lovers with the gorgeous Ingrid Pitt is my other top fave besides all the Dracula & Frankenstein movies. Hammer really transports you back in time as if you are there.😎
Have to wiegh in on this Hammer have always been my fav horror films so top 10 10 - She 9 - Hound of the Baskervilles 8 - The Mummy's Shroud 7 - Curse of the Werewolf 6 - Horror of Dracula 5 - To The Devil A Daughter 4 - The Vampire Lovers 3 - Crescendo 2 - The Witches 1 - The Devil Rides Out
Loved Chris Alo's sign of the cross story at the end...I only know how to do it from seeing the 1990 comedy Nuns On The Run: "Spectacles, testicles, wallet, watch."
Have you guys got the book "Hammer glamour", which features pictures of all the girls from the Hammer films? A lot of large colour photos. A great read........ or look!! Does anyone remember "Crescendo", with Stefanie Powers? A forgotten classic.
Christopher Lee was the best Dracula actor. But the best Hammer Dracula movie was Bride Of Dracula which was filmed before Lee's fame. This was the best Peter Cushing's performance and absolutely the most gorgeous ladies filmed!
The Danzig mask that he wore could have came from Frazettas fantasy corner in East Stroudsburg pa. Danzig used to shop there and was fiends with the owner Frank Frazetta had many paintings done for him by Frank before he died.
One Million Years B.C. Curse Of Frankenstein The Mummy The Snorkel Horror Of Dracula Plague Of The Zombies Abominable Snowman Of The Himalayas Captain Clegg/Night Creatures(starring Yvonne Romain's Cleavage) The Devil Rides Out Revenge Of Frankenstein and great shirts btw
1. Dracula 2. The Devil Rises Out 3. The hound of the Baskerville 4. Twins of Evil 5. Quatermass 2 6. Frankenstein must be destroyed 7. Plague of the zombies 8. Vampire Circus 9. Taste of Fear 10. The kiss of the Vampire
Incidentally, Jennifer Daniel and Edward de Souza from Kiss of the Vampire would co-star again in the 1973 episode Spell of Evil from Brian Clemens' anthology series Thriller (1973-76). It's on DVD and here on UA-cam, it's pretty good.
Great list, I thought Dracula 72 Ad was gonna be terrible and cheesey but it was actually really good, definitely not the best Hammer Drac film but still good, love frankenstein must be destroyed not a lot talk about it.
I love that Karnstein trilogy. Hands of the Ripper is underappreciated. It was nice to see the Abominable Snowman get some love. That one is really pretty brutal. So many good films. Great show!
Four righteous dudes talking about an awesome and somewhat underrated movie studio output. Thank you Pete. Must see lockdown (here in the UK at least) TV. Just wanna give a shout out to 2 awesome non horror Hammer classics: Cash On Demand and The Snorkel. Both are totally badass, for different reasons. 🤟
There were plans apparently to make it into a franchise as the Dracula franchise was running out of steam and this 'new' character had a lot of stories in him, a vampire hunter wandering from place to place. A missed opportunity.
1. Dracula (1958) - Christopher Lee, Peter Cushing, Michael Gough 2. The Hound of the Baskervilles (1959) - Peter Cushing, Andre Morell, Christopher Lee 3. The Mummy (1959) - Peter Cushing, Christopher Lee, Yvonne Furneaux, Eddie Byrne 4. The Curse of Frankenstein (1957) - Peter Cushing, Christopher Lee, Hazel Court 5. As a kid I loved Hammer's Draculas, Frankensteins and Mummies. And especially The Plague of the Zombies. But just a few years ago I began watching some of their b/w thrillers from the sixties and Paranoiac became my new favourite Hammer movie. Nightmare is awesome too, so creepy.

Almost 2 hours just flew by with another fantastic episode of The Monster’s Den. Pete, so glad you stuck with this series ever since the first episode. The Trio of Terror with Dan make an excellent panel full of history, trivia, discussion, and entertainment. All four were on their game for this show. My thanks to Rich, Dan, Chris and you, too, Pete for each spending their time and themselves for our entertainment. Though now my head keeps playing the theme from the Underdog cartoon show but substitutes Underboob instead.
Personal faves; The Mummy, Brides of Dracula, Quatermass & the Pit, Devil Rides Out. Dracula Has Risen From the Grave, Dr Jekyll & Sister Hyde. Twins of Evil. Really though nearly all are fun/great. As they called them "Fairy Tales for Adults".
The blatantly loose adaptation of the Hound of the Baskerville will be my fav, creepy and dark atmosphere. Chemistry between Cushing and Lee is unique there.
For my money it's my fav Holmes adaptation. And Cushing looks almost exactly like the old illustrations of Holmes, especially in profile. He acted it perfectly as well, and the actor who portrayed Watson also did excellent. And most definitely, the atmosphere is so perfect, gothic done right
The Abominable Snowman of the Himalayas (1957) with Peter Cushing and Forrest Tucker, is a great, very overlooked movie. It has to be the best movie ever made about Yetis. Completely different from any movie I've seen about the Yeti or Bigfoot, in the best way possible.
Pete, I'm so happy you picked THE DEVIL RIDES OUT. Fantastic film, supernatural but not really horror. Christopher Lee in a mysterious heroic role, Richard Matheson adaptation, and one of Terence Fisher's best films!
I tell you I saw the Gorgon when I was about six or so. I swear I had nightmares off and on for years after that. For that reason it’s my number one. Damn near scarred my ass for life. Great topic Pete.
Surprised that Dan Brown didn't bring up the fact that Dave Prowse is the only actor to have played 2 different versions of the monster/creature, in Frankenstein and the Monster from Hell and, before that, Horror of Frankenstein (in which he's more recognisable), which is, admittedly, a spoof.
Not going to argue with any of the choices but I will say that Christopher Lee's performance in To the Devil a Daughter is amongst his best. With a different ending and a more coherent script it could have been in the top 10.
Revenge of Frankenstein !!! Vampire Circus Dr. Jekyll & Sister Hyde Horror of Dracula The Mummy Hound of the Baskervilles The Gorgon Captain Kronos Dracula AD for the camp content and the Rock Band lol The Vampire Lovers The Devil Rides Out
lol Oh! its the SIGN! lol didn't Tony Iommi give Christopher Lee an award.I'm sure Hammer Movies inspired many Sabbath songs.I've got a DVD where Lee reads Bram Stocker's Dracula that I consider one of my favorites because of that
fun show guys. how about for a demonic movie which wasnt hammer but from the 70s and its The Mephisto Waltz? top three 1. horror of dracula 2. the vampire lovers 3.the devil rides out *to ask as i have the dvd of horror of dracula and the vampire lovers but is the blu ray worth it for both and a definite improvement on the dvds?
Haven't watched the whole video but I'll do my 10, in no particular order: Horror of Dracula Brides of Dracula Curse of Frankenstein Frankenstein and the Monster from Hell Curse of the Werewolf The Mummy Plague of the Zombies The Gorgon Hound of the Baskervilles The Reptile
Also of a few more actresses mentioned in this, Valerie Leon was in Never Say Never Again, and Caroline Munro was in Casino Royale & The Spy Who Loved Me.

The Gorgon The Devil Rides Out Frankenstein must be destroyed Dracula has risen from the grace Plague of the zombies The Reptile The revenge of Frankenstein Twins of evil Quatermass and the pit Vampire lovers
I should just get The Ultimate Collection, Hammer Films, 20 film set, and be set for life on horror classics. Got to have them all from Dracula- to- Z.
Those Mill Creek sets were OK but the Indicator editions blow them out the water. Loads of films not released in the US, and the ones that Mill Creek did on barebones discs now have hours of special features for every last one.
no one ranked Hands of the Ripper? or Twins of Evil? or Quatermass and the Pit? for shame! i am glad The Gorgon got a lot of recognition as that has always been one of my favorites. i also think Scars of Dracula is underrated.
Love this show!!! I am an old collector and would love to get a decent copy of "Legend of the werewolf" with Peter Cushing, its my favorite werewolf film.
The 'middle' Frankenstein films are all generally interesting (excellent if you like Hammer films). The Revenge of Frankenstein is great, as are Frankenstein Must be Destroyed and Frankenstein Created Woman. Some great acting, especially Freddie Jones in FMBD. Both Frankenstein and Dracula get two interesting outings that are one-offs - out of sequence with the series - in Scars of Dracula and The Evil of Frankenstein. Of the two, I think Scars of Dracula is a bit below par. The latter both recreates the origin story with former wrestler, Kiwi Kingston, playing the creature in make-up that echoes Jack P. Pierce's Karloff look, albeit exaggerated (he looks like Frankenstein ran out of skulls and ended up using a cardboard box to contain his brain). Some of the plotting also echoes Universal's Son of Frankenstein, with the monster getting used by Sandor Elès evil hypnotist to take revenge on those that have slighted him. I always liked those middle Frankenstein's more than the final two (Horror of, and FATMFH).
big shout out for pic basket case one of most enjoyable movies seen in a wile I got buddy at work to wacth he loves it when it gets busy and he's mad he yells just like beliia like when he destroyed hotel room 😆

8. Lust For A Vampire: Yutte Stensgaard why else 🤔
Twins of Evil is one of my favourites as well. They just mentioned it briefly. I thought it was going to be in their top 3.
Twins of Evil definitely belongs in any essential top 10..lovely sets design..eerie atmos and Cushing.
Vampire Lovers with the gorgeous Ingrid Pitt is my other top fave besides all the Dracula & Frankenstein movies. Hammer really transports you back in time as if you are there.😎
Have to wiegh in on this Hammer have always been my fav horror films so top 10

6 - Horror of Dracula
5 - To The Devil A Daughter
4 - The Vampire Lovers

2 - The Witches
1 - The Devil Rides Out
Loved Chris Alo's sign of the cross story at the end...I only know how to do it from seeing the 1990 comedy Nuns On The Run: "Spectacles, testicles, wallet, watch."
Have you guys got the book "Hammer glamour", which features pictures of all the girls from the Hammer films? A lot of large colour photos. A great read........ or look!!
Does anyone remember "Crescendo", with Stefanie Powers? A forgotten classic.
Yes, I remember that book, and Crescendo is quite good indeed.
They are right the one with the priest that has the rifle is one of my favorites
Fantastic discussion guys! Subscribed … one of my faves has to be ‘the hound of the Baskerville’
Christopher Lee was the best Dracula actor. But the best Hammer Dracula movie was Bride Of Dracula which was filmed before Lee's fame. This was the best Peter Cushing's performance and absolutely the most gorgeous ladies filmed!
So under rated, great movie.
I agree, (along with maybe The Mummy) it's probably Hammer's most beautiful looking film.
I was absolutely blown away by Curse of Frankenstein. Couldn't believe how good it was..
I love The Monster's Den!
I always learn about a couple of classics I need to add to my collection. Great job guys! 👹👹👹
How could Pete forget the name of Michael Ripper (who ALWAYS played the innkeeper) - I mean: Ripper, you can't get a more appropriate name :)
That's him! I knew it was 'Micheal R...' but his name was just not coming to me. I think he might have been in more Hammer films than anyone!
I always remember him getting killed - poisoned - by The Reptile, which is another Hammer film I really like.
Yea 😎👍 while he was trying to Pry it Loose , inside my head i was Chanting - Michael RIPPER ! Michael RIPPER !
I chanced upon Scars of Dracula the other night. Up pops the Inn Keeper: sure enough, it’s Michael Ripper!
The Danzig mask that he wore could have came from Frazettas fantasy corner in East Stroudsburg pa. Danzig used to shop there and was fiends with the owner Frank Frazetta had many paintings done for him by Frank before he died.
One Million Years B.C.
Curse Of Frankenstein

6. Frankenstein must be destroyed
7. Plague of the zombies

This was a monstrous undertaking. Nicely done. I'll give an honorable mention to The Hounds of the Baskervilles.
Taste the Blood of Dracula, Dracula A.D. 1972, Curse of Frankenstein, Frankenstein Must Be Destroyed are my favorites off hand.
Great list, I thought Dracula 72 Ad was gonna be terrible and cheesey but it was actually really good, definitely not the best Hammer Drac film but still good, love frankenstein must be destroyed not a lot talk about it.
Despite its modern-day setting, I think it has good atmosphere and maybe the creepiest Count yet.
I love that Karnstein trilogy. Hands of the Ripper is underappreciated. It was nice to see the Abominable Snowman get some love. That one is really pretty brutal. So many good films. Great show!
Under Boob- instant addition to the English language and an instant classic.
Is it Michael Ripper you're thinking of, Pete? The actor who starred in many of the Hammer films.
Yes indeed!!
I haven’t seen all the Hammer films but my favourite by far is ‘The Devil Rides Out’. I think it holds up extremely well and is genuinely creepy.
Taste the Blood of Dracula. “You drink the filth!”
"I loved Captain Kronos Vampire Hunter."-🤔🖥🌐..
Caroline Monroe is so hot in that it hurts!
Filmed in early 1972, not released until exactly two years later.
There were plans apparently to make it into a franchise as the Dracula franchise was running out of steam and this 'new' character had a lot of stories in him, a vampire hunter wandering from place to place. A missed opportunity.
1. Dracula (1958) - Christopher Lee, Peter Cushing, Michael Gough
2. The Hound of the Baskervilles (1959) - Peter Cushing, Andre Morell, Christopher Lee

The Brides of Dracula
The Mummy
The Revenge of Frankenstein
Taste the Blood of Dracula
The Reptile
The Abominable Snowman
The Gorgon
Dracula A.D. 1972
Paranoiac
The Lost Continent
Great to see our distant cousins across the Atlantic still share a Common cultural and historical heritage .
It may not last much longer but keep it up !
This was a fun episode.
Haha! Thanks!
Such a great episode 🙂 Next Hammer episode must be Hammer films hidden gems 🙂
Great idea. There are lots of lesser known Hammer films that are terrific.
This video has been very helpful to me as someone who is just getting into hammer horror. I’ve only seen a few so far.
Still one of my favourite Sherlock Holmes films. Andre Morell (tv’s Quatermass) is my favourite Dr Watson. Great picks by the hosts, BTW.
For my money it's my fav Holmes adaptation. And Cushing looks almost exactly like the old illustrations of Holmes, especially in profile. He acted it perfectly as well, and the actor who portrayed Watson also did excellent. And most definitely, the atmosphere is so perfect, gothic done right
@@codyt821 Truth mate!
👍👍 🇬🇧 !
Maybe Rich's internet connection is slow but it seems like he talks over the others a lot of the time because of a possible lag.
Peter Cushing was the best Dr. Frankenstein & Sherlock Holmes......and a decent Upper Manager in the Galactic Empire.
Quatermass 2, Enemy from Space. Superb film. Misleadingly/esoterically called Vampires from Space in Italy.
that's an underrated one.
Not going to argue with any of the choices but I will say that Christopher Lee's performance in To the Devil a Daughter is amongst his best. With a different ending and a more coherent script it could have been in the top 10.
..amazed that ‘Witchfinder General’ not mentioned..what a great Vincent Price perf and a shocking ending..
It ain't a Hammer film.
Revenge of Frankenstein !!!
Vampire Circus
Dr. Jekyll & Sister Hyde
Horror of Dracula
The Mummy
Hound of the Baskervilles
The Gorgon
Captain Kronos
Dracula AD for the camp content and the Rock Band lol
The Vampire Lovers
The Devil Rides Out
lol Oh! its the SIGN! lol didn't Tony Iommi give Christopher Lee an award.I'm sure Hammer Movies inspired many Sabbath songs.I've got a DVD where Lee reads Bram Stocker's Dracula that I consider one of my favorites because of that
fun show guys. how about for a demonic movie which wasnt hammer but from the 70s and its The Mephisto Waltz? top three 1. horror of dracula 2. the vampire lovers 3.the devil rides out *to ask as i have the dvd of horror of dracula and the vampire lovers but is the blu ray worth it for both and a definite improvement on the dvds?
Really enjoy your channel Pete ,cheers .
The Seventh Victim as mentioned at minute 53 is a great 40s horror film.
Haven't watched the whole video but I'll do my 10, in no particular order:
Horror of Dracula
Brides of Dracula
Curse of Frankenstein
Frankenstein and the Monster from Hell
Curse of the Werewolf
The Mummy
Plague of the Zombies
The Gorgon
Hound of the Baskervilles
The Reptile
Wish you guys would do the Amicus anthology horror movies!
Stay tuned.
Did someone say Martine Beswick? If so , wasn t she in a couple of James Bond movies ?
She was in From Russia with love and Thunderball
@@oskarklang8616 Yea. I just wasn t sure if I heard right. Thanks .
Also of a few more actresses mentioned in this, Valerie Leon was in Never Say Never Again, and Caroline Munro was in Casino Royale & The Spy Who Loved Me.
@@jimmycampbell78 Oh . THAT Caroline Munro ! Hot stuff indeed.
She was in Devil Dog Hound of Hell
Frankenstein Must Be Destroyed is Peter Cushing's best performance and it has mesmering Veronica Carlson you can't beat that.
"I Monster" with Chris Lee is also a superb (if shortist) take on Dr Jekyll & Mr Hyde as well Pete ...
Yep, I have it, really good!
I, Monster is a very good version of Jekyll and Hyde, but it is an Amicus film so can't make this list.
Hey pete, great show, real quick, what time did you go live?I dont remember any of you're shows starting after 11 pm,I thought it was canceled or problem with the feed.rp
We haven’t done a live one in a few weeks.
Quatermass and the pit is probably my number one. Most likely for nostalgic reasons, but it's still a cool film.
The Gorgon
The Devil Rides Out
Frankenstein must be destroyed
Dracula has risen from the grace
Plague of the zombies
The Reptile
The revenge of Frankenstein
Twins of evil
Quatermass and the pit
Vampire lovers
The Satanic Rites of Dracula is out on bluray on Warner Archive
I should just get The Ultimate Collection, Hammer Films, 20 film set, and be set for life on horror classics. Got to have them all from Dracula- to- Z.
Amicus are a great horror film maker , in fact I have a box set shaped like a coffin , brilliant stuff guys , and who can forget Michael Ripper !
I have it on DVD...eagerly awaiting a blu Ray someday! Love that film!
Brilliant film. I haven't seen it since the mid 70's. I don't think any of the Tygon films are currently available.
I'm getting to that age where my #1 is going to have to be ""Lost Continence."
HAMMER DOS'NT NEED NIGHTTIME TO BE SCARY THOSE DAYTIME WINTER SCENES IN THE FOREST USED TO SCARE ME TO DEATH WHEN I WAS YOUNG AND ARE STILL CREEPY TODAY
I wonder if Pete's into those black and white Edgar Wallace mysteries from the sixties.
I watched public TV in the seventies as a kid and I saw stuff on PBS and the networks that made me love horror movies, then I read Stephen King
