  • A customer demonstration of the Radel digi -108 Digital Tabla. I let the machine speak for itself. One by one ALL of the thekas of the Radel digi -108 Digital Tabla are demonstrated at 130 beats per minute in normal mode. ( you can also speed up and slow down the video speed)No tricks, no sound editing - this is recorded in default mode out of the box on a Panasonic HC-V130K Video cam. The only settings I changed were the turning down the volume and slowing down the speed to 130 beats per min.
The machine has much more functionality than displayed in this video but the idea was to be simple. I could easily do a 5-hour review so i decided on only showing the thekas.
The machine can play from 10 beats per minute up to almost 600 beats per minute. So use your imagination a bit when listening. This unit also features midi in and midi out on the left side panel.
The Thekas are listed in a chart on the bottom of the unit. They are also listed in the manual and in a PDF online manual at Radel's website. If you want to read the PDF file from the manufacturer go here:
    www.radel.in/wp...
(If that fails, go here - www.radelindia.com)
If you are thinking of purchasing or if you already have a unit you can listen to a short excerpt of the All the thekas provided Radel digi -108 Digital Tabla at 130 bpm in Normal Mode.
The Radel digi -108 Digital Tabla's primary competitor is the TAAL TARANG DIGITAL POWER ELECTRONIC TABLA by Sound Labs. Both are in the same price range.
Previous versions of this Raded Ditigal Tabla machine include the Radel Taalmala Digi 60Dx and the Radel Taalmala Digi 100 plus.
I do not sell this unit. I am not a friend or family member of anyone who sells this product. I have no financial interests in the company or distribution of this product. I bought the Radel digi -108 Digital Tabla for personal sitar practice.

Your timing could not be more excellent, thank you so much for this upload. ;) Curious, did you order directly from Radel or go through a 3rd party? Having trouble justifying paying 2/3's again what the unit costs simply for shipping...

Enoch Dark I got mine from exotichub on ebay. (Type in digi 108 in ebay search and you will find them.) They were the best price. You can also try Amazon.com. I believe a merchant called Super brass is selling. I have never done business with them however.
Buy Raagini at www.buyraagini.com/ is another place. They sell on amazon too sometimes. I bought a set of real tablas from them and they did a good job. ( i cant play very well however).
If you are in the US you are looking at $148 - $200 for this unit depending on where you purchase. Make sure the seller has good reviews~!
(If you buy a TAAL TARANG DIGITAL POWER ELECTRONIC TABLA by Sound Labs - go to website first. They have a page that shows what the imitations look like. Here is the link for spotting fakes - swar-taal.com/duplicate-raagini-tanpura.html )

Paul N Yeah, I think it was the exotichub channel here on YoutTube which lead me to your video, ;) I have also been to the Raagini site... And yeah I found that ordering direct from Radel comes out to just a bit over 200...
Thank you for the info and please let me know if you upload another video showing any more of the functions of the Digi 108. ;)

Enoch Dark Im thinking about doing it, but if you watch the dig 100 videos you will have a good idea. There is a 6 part user's manual on youtube for the digi 100. I have already spent hours practicing with the 108 and have only scratched the surface. It could take weeks before i get very deep
Part of the intention of this video was to be able to review the thekas without having to be in front of the actual machine pressing buttons - you can speed it up and slow the video to 2x speed ( i just insrted that in the description) - an easier way to find the beat you want.

Paul N Yeah, I tried to sit through a few of them but the ultra-high frequency distortion on her mic was driving me insane. I guess, if anything I want to know if there is really enough going on in terms of programability to justify the price. I've owned many drum machines over the years and am drawn to this so far for its uniqueness. I already have a Korg Wave Drum as it is so I pretty much have all these sounds and more but am mostly interested in the Indian riddims which are absent on my drum machines.
I understand why you made the vid the way you did and appreciate it very much. Wish I'd thought of the 2x thing prior to sitting through 40 minutes of it at 130bpm considering it can be cranked to 600... ;) Curious, do you own any other Radel or Sound Labs devices?

+Enoch Dark the programming is limited to 13 strokes but up to 99 of them per program in what ever time signature you want. However you can edit any one of the 108 already in the machine with those 13 stokes, plus you can change emphases all the strokes. If you screw one up badly you can set it back to factory default! I just made a quick video on it- ua-cam.com/video/V54_Byb6NIQ/v-deo.html
Chances are you already got one by now!

Very sorry I took so long to reply. Yes, the "Tirakita" button makes a sound. Not you can not edit the default sound. That button is used to make custom loops. You make loops using Tirakita, Kita, Thun, Thin, Na, Na-Na, ka, Thi, Dha, Dhin, ge, Dha-Ge and ' for a space or rest. You can find the manual here:

Sound quality and taal variations of Soundlabs Tabla machine is better than Radel digi 108. But any electronic machine have no guarantee, warranty for long life.

Hello there, I am not sure if you have answered this question within the info you've already given but my question is a simple one and I am sorry if I am asking you to repeat anything. My question is... Does the MIDI allow for individual hits of the sounds and/or is it for clock? Thank you so much in advance! This is really a terrific sounding machine! :-)

+Arthur Levinson I am not sure i understand the question, but will try to give some informaiton. i have nver tried the input but I have used the output. Whatever sound the machine makes will go out and can be recorded with a sound editing program.

I was curious myself, apparently according to the manual you can have it clock sync in and out as well as receive and send note data. So it utilizes midi like most drum machines.

hello, can we take practice of light song like filmy songs, bhakti geet, baal geet on digital Taalmala Digi-108? & what is the specaility in Radel Taalmala Digi-60 Dx & Taalmala Digi-108?

    • @Pualn08
      @Pualn08  8 років тому

+Akshay More The Digi-108 has all the patterns of the Digi-60 plus many more. I do not now if you can edit on the Digi-60. You may want to research on that one. on the Digi-108 you can create and store a few of your own patterns. I do not know if you can on the Digi-60.
I think you can practice anything with the unit once you find a beat or a variation you like that fits the feel and time signature of the song. Keep in mind you can edit an existing pattern or crate a new pattern up to I believe 90 strokes on a pattern that you create. (I would suggest writing your patterns and memory number down however, in case you need them in the future or accidentally delete or write over one). You have a limited amount of patterns you can create- I cover that in this video:ua-cam.com/video/V54_Byb6NIQ/v-deo.html
Keep in mind you are limited by the fact that it is only a machine. You set one pattern and it plays. Unless you chose to record a track where you splice patterns together on a PC or Mac, you have one steady unchanging beat and constant volume.
I am a beginner at sitar. I like the digital tabla much much better than a metronome. I practice parts of ragas, paltas, and scales with the digital tabla. I also sometimes use a digital tanpuras. Sometimes I practice with neither. I enjoy the variation and the structure of the tabla.
Because the tabla displays the beat on the display, you can determine if you lost or added a beat somewhere. To a more advanced musician, perhaps that would be worthless. Keep in mind it is only a machine. It has a lot of choices but it is still a machine.
For each song you play, you will only be able to find or use a limited amount of all the total choices. I would write them down as well should your memory fail you someday. I like,e the machine. If I had to choose between this and a digital tanpura, I would chose the tabla.
I own both so I am not just speculating. In my case, it will not make poor or amateur playing sound better, but will aid for working on timing and speed. The variations can make practice a bit more enjoyable some days. Again, I personally like it much better than a metronome. You could consider the Digi-108unit as a very very very advanced and very sophisticated metronome. The price has dropped since I purchased it, but i do not regret the price I paid. That is my personal opinion, another person good very well disagree.
I also prefer a smaller limited box unit to practice with over using a program on a computer or laptop with some decent speakers. Those persons with such programs may not find any value in this unit. You would have to search the internet for a tabla program if you go that route.

      @@bhavyakumarsaini1639 hello.
I spoke to my guru he said ektaal can be played in miltiple numbers
But the matra display should indicate only 12 matars.
And please stop copping taal sangat sounds and using them in your product
