  • This video discusses a viable option to making a blasting cap using carbon fiber. In order to be effective, the material used as primary and density is the key. My method shown is just a guide on assembly. For entertainment only and should not be done without qualified supervision.

    Very nice 👍
For a cheaper option I bet you could use carbon arrow shafts too. I have never thought of carbon fiber tubes before.
I have been using the red cardboard bottle rocket tubes for the longest time but then I found out about the PT100 thermocouple tubes.
Thermocouple tubes are open on one end and sealed on the other and it works with a military crimping tool pretty well . . . If you want something a bit more professional looking id try those.
Its almost identical to a real one.
    Good video man!

I’ll check it out for sure 😊 is the HMTD gonna react to the metal in these thermocoupler tubes?

@@PyroDemon1You could coat the inside of the tube with something non metallic/ non conductive.

@@ryanjrwtoo much trouble. I make 20 dets at a time. I make a batch of HMTD, press in the powdered PETN, add some cotton and then add the loose HMTD damp before I seal it up. It’s the best way I’ve found because sometimes the dets sit for a couple of months before use. I don’t like to take chances with primaries.

Will it work with black powder

@@AndreiusDixon you could try it but it wouldn’t be sufficient to set off HE. I’ve filled a couple with just flash but I didn’t have any luck. My goto is fill half with powdered (packed) PETN, a piece of cotton and then just a little damp HMTD (not pressed) at the top before the match goes in.

One thing I can tell you is : If you can stay away from hmtd or any organic peroxyde compound, please do so. Usually, when experimented in lab, we only make a very tiny bits of it. Cause this compound is so impredictible. You never know once it's dry how it may react. Those are sensible from shock to simple pressure, heat, and static (with sparks so tiny that you don't even see it). Plus, when it gets in contact with metals, it forms salts that are even more highly sensitive and dangerous. That thing decompose in the form of gases. So... imagine... you put your stuff in the fridge to keep it cool and lower its reactivity. Next day, you want to make a very innocent fire cracker. You open the door of your fridge and the light come on too. The simple fact that this bulb lights up creates a tiny electric spark, which inevitably starts the gases around. And then.... baboum!!!
Now, this may seem exagerated, but its not. You could say it's unlikely that it will happen, but it could. This tiny story is in fact base on a true story explained in chemistry books. Anyway, it was only to show you how sensible it is. Just look a videos on nitrogen triiodide. It may gives you an idea. Cause it's not the same compound and not as such sensible, but surely as impredictible.
Just use a toy gun plactic cap and for most thing itll work. If not, think on how this tiny cap can be bigger and you'll have your answer. Hope, it helped a bit.

@ I’m aware that HMTD hates me and wants to kill me. I make 20 dets at a time. I make the HMTD, add it loose and damp to the top of my tube, add the e-match and seal it up. These are then kept in my storage magazine until use. The HMTD that isint used is destroyed. I repeat this process after my dets are gone. All primaries are dangerous, but we have to use them. I would never load HMTD into anything metal. Carbon fiber is the only way
