    One of the best videos I have watched, and I’ve watched plenty. Not sure how it doesn’t have at least 100,000 views! That relationship is worth more than anything else in this world!

      I suspect it's the title that puts people off. It's actually "Son and his Dad ride the Divide on an amazing adventure", not an oil company riding the divide. It was in my stream for a month before I looked at it. And I almost didn't, which would have been a shame. I suggest a title change.

    I think a Japanese bike like a WR250R or DRZ 400 would have inspired a bit more confidence when out far from home. I don't trust KTM for electric stuff. fantastic Father and Son Adventure. The Best!!

      Or a reliable CRF250L

    • @DadCanFixAnything
      @DadCanFixAnything 3 роки тому

      On paper, the 690/701 is the perfect bike for this ride. It’s too bad that you have to replace a large percentage of the components on the bike right off the showroom floor, and then it’s still not reliable.
      A Japanese 250 would be great for the off-road sections, as long as you were packed like a true minimalist, but definitely not ideal on the pavement.
      ... Although, the reliability of not having to stop for repairs would more than make up for the lost speed on pavement.

      @Tim Brandt I own a Vstrom 650. Very poor ground clearance and unsuitable suspension. Probably could do it though. I'm not ure I am strong enough to pick it up?

    This is one of the most inspiring stories I've ever seen. I've recently purchased a bike to adventure ride. It's been 15 years and now my 15 year old son wants to ride. Like your Dad Wyatt aged 70 I too learnt to ride to my abilities when out with groups of riders and I only have admiration for him when he had to get you to ride his bike. I have watched both good and bad riders ride over the mountain in the Isle of Man on public days during the TT and its not pretty when someone comes off because they were trying to keep with faster riders, Stay safe.

Buy the best tires you can afford, good tent and sleep pad and a good gps. I used a phone the first time and a garmin the second time and the garmin was 1000 times better.

    GREAT VIDEO and ADVENTURE! I've watched many of these OFF ROAD ADVENTURE ride videos. It seems like the Japanese bikes (all the makes) do very well and the European made BMW, KTM, Triumphs brands ALL breakdown. Ive been riding Honda and Suzuki for 37 years. The only major problem Ive ever had was on a 83 Suzuki, the head gasket went bad (under warranty repair). Im riding Yamaha right now, LOVE IT.

      Glad you enjoyed the video! We were riding in the Klim Badlands Pro Jacket and Pants Combo, which have excellent armor built right into them. I personally am of the mindset that more protection is better than less haha! I definitely think there are portions that can justify having a decent amount of protection, especially if you go for the red offshoots on the GPSKevin tracks. Your trip definitely sounds awesome! I really hope you enjoy doing the Divide Ride. It was absolutely amazing. Can't recommend it enough.

      @@autowerkesexclusive we had temps down into the 20s and 30s overnight as we got further north. I had a 20 degree Big Agnes sleeping bag that I used for the whole trip. By the end it was getting a bit cold for the 20 degree bag but I could offset it by sleeping in a bit of clothing.

    A great video. Inspiring dreams. I am asking myself: will i have the skills and stamina to do it? And if i do, should i buy a Japanese bike? In a trip like this, a bike reliability is not a hypothetical question...

      Glad you liked the video! If you want to really put on some miles every day, and you want to ride fairly hard, then I would say do a little bit of training leading up to this. It might not be necessary, but as you get toward the end of the trip, you're definitely going to be feeling the wear and tear on your body haha. Also, if you ever do it, don't be afraid to schedule in some rest days in some cool locations, like Jackson Hole or something. Bike prep was key for this trip, I don't think it matters too much what bike you have, so long as you know it inside and out and you trust it.

    Hey guys.. FANTASTIC video!! And what trip.. I'm planning this with two friends of mine.. Interested to know what time of year you rode? And, would you have done it any differently knowing what you know now? Also, do you think it could be done North to South? Cheers!

      Glad you enjoyed the video! Awesome to hear you are planning to do this trip as well. We started the trip at the end of August and rode through most of September. In all honesty, even with the couple random things that went wrong, we wouldn't have changed anything. All I can say is, just take the time up front to make sure your bike is dialed in, and you should be good to go. I am sure it would be just as fun from North to South. Just keep in mind you'll have to descend Fleecer Ridge if you ride it that way haha! Best of luck on your trip!

    Loved the video. What tents do you guys use in this clip? And how durable would you say they are?

    • @higherbasemedia
      @higherbasemedia 4 роки тому +1

      Glad you enjoyed the video! We are using the Big Agnes Copper Spur HV UL2 tents here. We had zero issues with durability even after basically living out of the tents for the duration of this ride. I'd say that just being conscious of how you pack the tent in your saddlebags (such as packing the poles and stakes separately from everything) can add to the longevity of the tent. I have continued to use this tent for backpacking and more motorcycle camping over the last couple years and it is still going strong.

    Why do dogs put their head out of the pickup window? Because they can't ride a motorcycle.
    Great video & story. Fantastic video production. Been coast to coast twice. Like you guys learned, you are at the mercy & blessing of mother nature the whole way. Although there are some great bikes (like the KTM) I have settled into the tried & true universal Hondas' and a Kawasaki KLRs for the reason you had to limp around and wait a week for parts. When you are 3,000 miles from home it feels great to pull into a large dealership network shop and throw on a set of brake pads or whatever in nowhere Maine, in 20 minutes or less. Unfortunately Harleys have an even larger dealer network- because they always need them.

    How long did it take? Start to finish

    • @higherbasemedia
      @higherbasemedia 3 роки тому +1

      If we had not been forced to miss a few days of the route due to technical difficulties, it would have taken us about 19 days of riding. I would personally not want to do it much faster than that, but I know there are people who have done it in half that time. If I were to do it again, I'd take it a little slower and take it all in and just break up the longer days a bit. Check out GPS Kevin for the GPS tracks that we used. He has a great breakdown of the route split up day by day.
