I always use a pair of vice grips on the window track at the base of the window to keep a window up until the part comes in to repair it.

Using common sense isn't any fun. Duct tape is best when no common sense is available at all. I'll give you three examples (Purely fictional. No vehicles were harmed in the imagining of these scenarios)...
1. Using duct tape as a rope to pull the Kenworth up the driveway. I just feel bad for the poor Yugo that was used as the pull vehicle. The tape was stronger than the bumper.
2. Taping up the hole in the floor of an Amphicar from the inside so it can be tested on the lake. Funny thing about taping the floor from the inside... Works like a clapper valve. The water refused to drain out after it was fished out of the lake, but flowed right in when on the water.
3. Taping the leak in the oil pan. 15 rolls later, and the leak is still there.
Remember, if women don't find you handsome, they should at least find you handy.
I used to watch it on CBC. Since digital switch, I can't get hold of CBC anymore
And remember, if duct tape doesn't work, just use more duct tape.

I used duct tape in Germany to fix a broken generator shaft on a DKW car. Kept running for over 14 months with no issues. Amazing. Thanks Scotty....

Besides duct tape the other useful item to keep in your car for help with repairs is zip ties.
I keep both in my car's toolbox for emergencies. However, I would never consider either to be a long-term repair.
As someone who once used a locking wrench to temporarily replace a gear selector on a motorcycle, I give this video a big thumbs up.

Adrian Glenn Bionat fords aren’t unreliable. They’re actually pretty good from what I’ve heard Scotty say and in personal experience. My dad owns a ford 7.3 and my mom has a Lincoln Navigator and that thing has been the most reliable car we’ve had in years, next to the 7.3.
That tells you that that is a quality car, and owner was very meticulous on taking care of it

😂 Great video, Scotty. I've used duct tape to cover my window switches when a couple of the windows started to get stuck. Covering the switches kept me from accidentally letting the window back down until I got the switches replaced. I miss the old days when car windows had to be rolled down manually.
I just used this tape to temporarily fix the rear window which was falling out of the convertible top. I went around with gorilla glue to secure the tape to the vinyl where the tape wouldn't grab (and to create a water-tight seal).

I always put some strips on steel gas tanks so the straps don't scratch them up when you install. And when you need to clean the residue when you use it on the body or windows, Naptha is your friend.
yes! definitely good on hoses and you are right Scotty that black stuff is pure quality.
TOP TIP: Don't put that on the paint... I used it to hold my window while I serviced my power window and when I removed it.... it destroyed my paintjob luckily I only put 2 small strips...
If you want to remove duct tape or it’s residue spray/soak with wd40 and wipe off until gone👍

Scotty is the best mechanic on UA-cam. These videos prove he also has a good sense of humor and is entertaining to watch.
Thanks to Scotty I was able to detect that my head gasket was fine and that it was actually the sensor and the thermostat just getting old.
I've used duct tape on throttle body hoses. As long as you can get a good air tight seal it works pretty well.

A good used is for door panel vapor barriers to stick them back in place after door work is done. I used black electeical tape to cover the check enginge lights. The duct tape would be too messy to peel off later. I eventually pulled the bulb for the check engine light years ago after the cats were gutted on the exhaust, badly clogged cats(constantly blowing the upstream downstream codes). I use a scan tool monthly to make sure nothing serious is blowing codes.

Hi Scotty! Don't see an official place to ask questions but here goes! re: an old Buick LeSabre - Question #1: intense heat and sunlight buckled the dash where it meets the windshield. Any fixes for that? Question #2: Every time we drive the car about 75-100 miles, I start to feel this hard kick, I guess it's the fuel, I'm not sure. It really makes me nervous about driving the car for more than just a quick local trip. Been to a lot of mechanics, nobody seems to be able to fix it for good. Any suggestions? I used gorilla tape interwoven with the aluminum sheet from a soda can to make a patch for a rusted hole in my wheel well then covered it in Flex Seal...two years later...ZERO issues!!
The tape is good to hold car parts together that are damaged when drivers apply the 'emergency brake' in an emergency that caused the vehicle to lose control and crash because they didn't realize the 'emergency brake' is really a 'parking brake' and is not to be applied in an emergency.
I have had it holding a rear taillight on after a clip broke for the last couple of years.
