I'm local to there so camp around there all the time, I had an MSR pocket rocket which is a good stove, but it needs a lot of protection in the wind, so for the last 18 months I've been using a SOTO Windmaster which is an amazing stove for the mountains, as the name suggests it works great in the wind. The summit of Pen yr Ole Wen is actually a lot quicker to get to than your estimate, I'd say you could have done it quite easily in 2hrs up and down.
Cheers Mark, I will definitely check out the Soto Windmaster sounds perfect for our needs 😁👍 we will Defo do Pen Yr Ole Wen in the future, thanks for watching ATB Mark & Simon 🏴👍👌
Hi Mark, yeah we could have done Pen Yr ole wen in a couple of hours but we stop to film clips all the time so we decided to chill out for a few hours instead. On the plus side it gives us an excuse to come back to do it 😀 that Soto wind master looks a cracking stove ( thanks for the recommendation) ATB Mark and thanks for watching the video 👍
One of of my favourite spots. Lovely and sheltered. Went up last summer but only a day hike. Took the kids up to see the plane crash remains. Great vid. Liked the intro!
Cheers Chris, thanks for watching I’ve seen your video and that’s the reason we went up there 😁 not sure if I commented on it though , it is a lovely spot for a hike and a camp will definitely be back 😁👍
Now that was a great camp Mark and Simon like you said makes a change with the better weather making it nice in the evening. That champion beer is good beer I do enjoy that one. Can’t believe you drive all the way up from Cardiff. TFS guys and roll on the better weather 🍺🏕️👍
Cheers Dave, the weather was on our side for once and it was great to just chill out by the tent on a winters evening. I do like that Champion beer although I think it was too strong for Simon 😁, the 4 hour drive up isn’t too bad as we’ve got used to it now plus I’m up North Wales quite regularly with Karen visiting her mum and dad 😁👍
Absolutely gorgeous place! Would love to see it sometime. Great video! We have all definitely watched as a hiking partner fell into the drink and been glad it was them that went first, haha. The drone shots were stunning! The helicopter was pretty intense, while doing a study abroad in the Bahamas we were buzzed by a U.S. coast guard helicopter. Got close enough that the down wash rocked our sailboat.
Cheers and thanks for watching, it’s a lovely area with loads of camping spots, it’s the first time I managed to record him going into the water he does it quite often lol the helicopter was a bit unnerving tbh but I can’t imagine being in a boat with one overhead - wouldn’t fancy that lol ATB Mark & Simon 👍😁
It seems like forever that you were out without the rain and wind. But brilliant video and epic location for camp. Great selection of beers and food. ATB Dan 👍 👍 👍 👍
Thanks for watching Dan it was awesome just to go on a hike and wild camp in decent weather for a change 👍 was cold but great to get back out 👍 ATB mate
Cracking video again boys. That helicopter was mad! I've got a brs but mainly use in summer or as a backup. For a gas stove I used to use MSR pocket rocket but it's proper loud and have recently got a soto windmaster. Whilst it's bigger than the brs it's more reliable and better for larger pots or doing more than just boiling water. Glad you enjoyed your trip again :-)
Thanks for watching the video Lloyd 👍 I think we are drawn to the Soto wind master it’s seems like it’s a popular bit of kit and has got good reviews 👍 yeah great camp that was. Hope you enjoy our next one. ATB Simon & Mark
Just wondering what you think of absiko lite 2... if you could choose that or your msr access which would you choose and why? :-) I'm obviously looking at more tents :-)
What wonderful video with breathtaking views. It's such a shame the Brecon Beacons doesn't have such mountains. It's always worth wearing gaiters if there is any chance of a water crossing especially this time of year. What a change in the weather 😮 but you got back safely. Atb Taff 🤠👊👊
Awwww thank you Taff, it’s an awesome place that’s why we keep returning 😁 we do normally wear gaiters but I don’t think Simon was expecting to go in the drink lol thanks for watching mate see you soon Mark & Simon 👍👌
I think you guys were e right to save Pen yr Ole Wen for another day. Great conditions for a wild camp, with or without the helicopter! 😄 Looking forward to your next. 👍
If you’re on the lookout for a new stove then the pocket rocket is a great choice, the 2 is great but if you can stretch to the deluxe it’s worth it. Great video as usual guys 👌🏻
Hi Darren thanks for watching the video I’ve been looking at the pocket rocket for a while 👍 we love MSR gear. Gonna way up the cost before I pull the trigger 👍 thanks for commenting pal and ATB Mark & Simon
Nice to see some sunshine at last! Looked a beautiful hike to do. As for a stove, I've never read anything bad about the Soto windmaster. Japanese always make decent gear. ATB fellas!
Definitely great to have a sunny day for a change 😁 this Soto windmaster name has got a mention in the comments a few times now so it looks like I will be getting one of them cheers mate 😁👍
Great spot, I love the little scramble up from there to Pen yr Ole Wen. I recommend the msr pocket rocket deluxe, I’ve never had any problems with mine. 👍
Yer that's right , as you look at your tents from the lake if you climbed slightly higher behind there's a flat shelf to pitch on , probably ABIT more exposed if windy , but another option 👍
Loved those drone shots. I'm definitely going to get one of those this Yr 👌 I would have shit myself with that police helicopter hovering above 😅😅 gosh,it sounded windy the next morning haha. What a contrast to the night before haha. Brilliant video again,as expected 👌
Cheers Charlene, drones are an extra bit of footage which make a video more interesting I reckon as for the helicopter I always get a bit nervous when one of those come too close, we seem to see a fair few of them on our wild camps 😁. As for the weather it wouldn’t be a wild camp without a bit of wind - especially when we get out lol 😂😂👍👌
Before you buy a new stove try a different gas. I use a Soto windmaster and had the same problem with the Coleman gas, I changed to Primus gas which works brilliantly even in sub zero temperatures. Great video. ATB Mark.
Cheers Mark, it’s defo the stove I used it on my brothers gas and it was the same, as for the windmaster I like the look of that so it look like I’ll be getting one of them - thanks for the recommendation 😁👍
Great one again guys I think I’ll give the champion ago great choice on the crisps⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Thanks for watching Paul 👍 that beer is nice but it’s strong as 🤣 and the crisps are the bomb 👍 all the best mate
Very beautiful hike. Thank you for sharing.
Glad you like it 👍 thanks for watching

Such a cracking spot. Ideal for a blast up with some luxuries for a chilled camp 😊
Hope you're both keeping well.
Adge.
Thanks for watching Adge, it’s a great camp spot up there and it’s not a massive hike to get to it 👍 ATB mate

Cheers Olly, thankfully we picked a decent day 😁 the helicopter was a bit unnerving lol 😂 thanks for watching we enjoyed this camp 😁👍
Proper supportive Mark...'I'm glad he went first' 😂😂. I've never been up that side before, looks cracking.
Mark doesn’t care does he lol 😂 slippery as Hell some of those rocks 🤣 it’s a great place to go for a camp and not a massive walk either 👍 ATB Paul
Cracking camp and location boys. Fancy sending a police helicopter just because you ignored that “no wild camping” sign 😂
Thanks for watching Joe 👍 they sent the police up but they still couldn’t find us 🤣 take care mate

Nice camp gents , I'm sure there's a nice flat spot on that raised platform looking down onto the water 👍
Thanks Neil, what raised platform would that be? Was it near to where our tents were?
