I bought it after hearing about what a great book it was, but the first time I read it thought it wasn't that interesting or impressive. That was a few years ago, before I developed an interest in medieval history, particularly focusing on the Byzantine Empire and the Mediterranean world. So I picked it up again, am currently through a 2nd read and NOW I get what the hype is all about. Kinda feel like a total fool for dropping it in the first place, but having some knowledge of medieval history and culture really lets you appreciate the significance of Ibn Jaldun's work, it's scope and depth. It also contributes to clearing up misconceptions about medieval thought and culture.
