I believe Ibn Khaldun should be recognised as the "Father of Modern Social Thought". Because the Muqaddimah (meaning the "Opening" in Arabic) has pointed out many ideas that soon shape the modern world.

This reminds me of the story of who invented the telephone. When the question is being asked many will say that Alexander Graham Bell is the inventor of the telephone. However Antonio Meucci invented the device a few months before, but he was only able to publish his invention in a local Italian newspaper, as he didn't speak any English

Great points and this is one of my curious discussions with many biased often eurocentric academics was about this question you posted in the end. The reality is that our psychology of this day of demonizing, rediculing and belittling arabs, muslims and non-europeans was there and is here at this moment and very apparent after 911. I can also say it was very stronger and worse in early days and most of the philosophers fell into it like, Locke and his view of the black africans etc. This is the same in the world of western academia now, but slitely subtle. Although luck of good translations of islamic philosophy in early 19th, 20s or 21st century was a part of the problem. But i can stress with confidene that the problem of not posing this question lies in our psychological realm of reality i e that we are dishonest, ethno-centrically motivated and rubbed almost all of it under the rug. However, thanks for your igniting and stimulating question? Peace!

The father of Human Rights is also not really the 'father', since he attended only Arabic classes during his time at Oxford. The concept of 'Rights' and human rights existed in the Islamic civilisation 1400 years ago, whereas they were introduced in the West not so long ago.

@Omar Aziz what a joke. Newton and liebnitz invented calculus , scientist, philosophers before him had no idea about its basic fundamentals . They only talked about the subjects in abstract non-scientific way. HG Wells wouldn't be called scientist just because he thought about time machine

Leibniz and Newton did not define calculus in a rigorous manner, Cauchy did (with limits). Does that mean that Newton did not help in defining calculus because of his use of "non-scientific ways"? Do you see the issue with your thinking?

Just have a cursory glance of Newton and liebnitz contribution to calculus en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_calculus.
And please, do point out my contradiction that I drew upon when I contrasted their contribution to calculus and ibn khaldun's to economy.
Calculus in its archaic form was known since, the Egyptian times......we don't say the Egyptian mathematics ware the father of calculus .since, their forms and ideas are too archaic

In one word NO. Their is no way to prove that Adam Smith borrowed ibn khaldun idea's or in anyway inspired by the treaties . Adam Smith's works have been adopted ,replicated and in some regard stood the test of time . All modern day classical economist got their ideas from Smith not khaldun.
Also, no body consider Aristotle as the man who discovered atoms since, he postulated something similar in that vain.

Social sciences and natural sciences are different in the ways of research and proving hypothesises. Atom is a true entity, it can't be argued against and it's existence is provable. It is a thing that has a physical form. Whereas economic theory different. Economic theories evolve over time like other social sciences for example sociology, bcs humans aren't a lazy bunch, from a time perspective, humans do different things, they are dynamic, while atoms are static. Ibn khaldun is the father of modern capitalist economics, since he and smith hold similar arguments. Smith can be inspired by him, since scholars are inspired and inspiring one another

I know that already) and I will support Qatar till the end of my life so the ruling family of Hammad takes the lead of the hajj until the next election :))).
