How to enjoy AOE2 online : don't be afraid to lose.
that's pretty much the main reason I stopped enjoying chess, but thankfully I'm not afraid to lose in aoe2 :D
That’s I play the medium ai
Fighting games forged me a bit into this aspect but AOE 2 is just so overwhelming but actually satisfying when you win. I don't have anyone to share this game with but this community is a godsent.
@@blueperseverance3912you play on Xbox or pc? I got a few buddies I play on Xbox with but I plug my keyboard and mouse into my box
That’s one of the best advice in pretty much all aspect of one’s life. Don’t be afraid to lose, don’t be afraid to look or be stupid. The fool is the precursor to the master.
I feel like a lot of people get frustrated at losing in this game because often the games can be long. Sometimes you need to remember that you're probably going to lose 50% of your games and that's okay. Gotta have the downs to make the ups feel sweet!
you've been watching too much hera and heartttt's quote my friend
I think the hardest part is pace, if you play with people who have a higher pace then you it feels a bit like drowning. If you get a game going with people who are similar skill/speed level and you can have a back and forth then its very fun. The other thing is, its not a very relaxing game, even playing single player, compared to other games in which you can relax and play, AOE you can't really stop to smell the roses, and this is feedback I get from friends who I've tried to introduce the game to, alot of people like building an aesthetic base and watching their villagers, and planning a large army then attacking, and end up just getting drowned by the enemy army. In reality this game is more like an arm wrestle, the instant you stop going 100% you lose, again depending on opponent, the AI will drown you if you let up.
This is a good point I've started thinking about myself after reading negative reviews. Although that's an issue with RTS games in general and there's no way around it in competitive multiplayer. I don't see why there can't be an easy difficulty level on campaigns, the lowest on DE is 'standard' right now. Similarly to how someone once made a hardcore mode for the Wallace campaign, I'm thinking of trying to create a mod of the campaigns in chillmode, essentially making it as easy as a skirmish ai on easiest
Agree strongly on the 'teammates with similar skill level' part. The two friends I play with are less experienced than me and they sometimes (though not always) struggle to keep up with the harder opponents we inevitably get from ranked team games. I try to keep it as friendly as possible and make it more of a learning experience than a competition but they tell me it's a bit too much sometimes, and that's ok even though it feels a bit lonely sometimes
7v1 Lumbering MMS is relaxing. You should play it 😎 we always try to have a lobby going during the week.
@@Hjoerleif The standard difficulty is literally the easy difficulty, i can´t clearly see what would make them easier
@@Nehireta_not_housed no, literally it's the standard difficulty. If they named it easy then it would literally be the easy difficulty.
The intro got me goosebumped. Damn.
I enjoy everybit of content you put on Survivalist. It makes me happy that there are people so dedicated to this game out there that are willing to be the pilars of the community.
Regarding campaigns there is a LOT of content. Doing full playthrough completing the objectives with no speedrunning on any mission takes at least 150 hours even if it's done on the first attempt. Personally when I played em I used no saves for added challenge which forced me to have to retry a couple missions from scratch but the risk feel when you play through knowing you might have to restart is something I liked. All that being said it's np to use saves do what ya want and enjoy em! You might come up with some other challenges for yourself like when Twest did his pacifist series :D
I would love to see a vid: 'The biggest meme strategies anyone can pull off in comp - heres how'
As a 30 year old, who only has a few hours in the weekend to play, but absolutley loves this game, I must say that all your contenent its just great, perfection! Thank you so much! Gl hf!
What also really helps is to overcome the psychological aspect of trying to be perfect all the time. Watching the pros play, I always have the need to copy builds and control my units as perfect as they do, only to find out its nothing like them.
So be okay with your idle TC, try to love to send your scout in the enemy TC and always enjoy the wholes in your wall!
great video man, nice to sit back and realize all this game offers.
Just downloaded AoE 2 a month ago after getting a PC for editing and can't thank you enough for your work. Best AoE channel on the Tube!
Dude, that is a great video!
Nice video man!
Your content is some of the best.
Great video.ton of value here thnkyou
Now an official aoe2 enjoyer
Brilliant!
Nice vid awesome game !!😊
i need that track at the end tho. ty and awesome video
It's King of Clowns. It's the upper right corner video in the end screen
I love history and cultures . Thus my favourite means of playing the game is RM with a proper setting and historically accurate factions/kingdoms battling against one another. Usually 2 vs 2 vs 2 on moderate to provide options for diplomacy as well as all out battles and sieges .
Yesterday I fought as Gurjaras with a Bengali ally vs X2 Burmese and Dravidians + Khmer. Entire battle taking place in the jungles of eastern India.
Once we have historically accurate unit skins for all the civs ..then I will start the brilliant campaigns. I can't wait.
When I do play MP , it is with my friends and family allied together with historically accurate civs vis Moderate AI.
2:20 lmao! 🤣

I want more reviews... in the sense that - I analyse friend's play, my own, games from casters & sometimes download top-tier level game replays to review. But it's harder on your own.
I play mostly 2 vs 2s with a friend who is learning slowly, but surely for the most part - yet have played as 4-man ranked a fair bit with another AoE II streamer and his viewers. None of them watches replays really, there's no real quick and precise or long and 'over-developed' analysis that goes into the games.
I went from maybe gold when I first started to watch Day[9] in S.C.II alongside casting of major tournaments when I started Uni in 2009. I got to masters with 1 game a day (a few on weekends - for no more than 10 a week) & got to Masters in no time really. Playing well because I've prepared by watching games and noticing things is how I best approach most games, but it's both taxing (energy-wise) to do it on your own & you're going to keep missing things - as again you've only got one perspective. Even just 2 or 3 people reviewing 1-2 games a week - you can even skim much of them at less crucial points, I could see being a great help to most players.
Talking about the game or about specific games (replays) is what I like... Winning is needed by some, but I just want the experience of playing well alongside the *UNDERSTANDING* of why & how I played well. And either there aren't enough people after that alongside me or there is a gap/divide in how that process/method is implemented.
I play campaigns and challenges if my wife and child are not sleeping. Yesterday I killed 10 boars for some Minecraft event.
If they are asleep, I can focus on playing online.
Epic intro
Internet Proxy (kappa)😅- cool video/idea
i can enjoy this game if i can react to laming and teuton trush very well, but not enough vids is talking about how to deal w them.
How to enjoy playing AoE 2
Step 1: resign

1v1 is too stressful for me to find it enjoyable. Team games with friends is great though.
You probably don't read all comments but I just wanted to say first of all good work on your videos and the economic calculator-website! I found a mistake on the latter: Checking Perfusion shouldn't affect the train time of Huskarl unless I also check Barracks.
I'm not a big shot channel yet where I can't read all of the comments, but maybe some time in the future :)
I'll try to get that issue fixed soon. Thanks for the report!
Ah yeah, I checked the app and I remembered why it's like this. It would take some additional coding to make it work like that and I'm not sure that it's worth it. It's really not that much work probably so maybe next time I dive in to code something I'll change it.
@@SurvivalistAoE sweet, no worries! I just happened to stumble upon it because I wanted to see what the single most expensive unit was to produce (I think Shotel, taking a whopping 70 vils from just one castle!!!). Also thanks for the reply and keep up the good work!
ma man
Personally, my enjoyment in the game depends if Im facing an archer civ, or archer rusher.
Have to fight an archer rushing micro nerd that just got out of playing Starcraft, turns the game into a tedious slog.
Yes, I have a love-hate relationship with Arabia.
Aoe is probably the game I'm worst at. Still have the most fun on it though
The funny thing is I have actually been playing AoE II in my sleep from time to time. Crazy huh?
Me too
AoE 2 > AoE 4
Tatoh flaming camels 🙆♂️
Is it better than having a gf or shall I ask someone else

The title reads like an April Fools' joke, but I guess giving advice on something like this is only consistent. It might be a bit misleading though since this is basically just praising the game for all the value it offers.
Lmao how weak have people gotten that you need someone to hold your hand and tell you how to enjoy oh I don't know, just the best RTS game ever made? Only warcraft 3 comes close. Just get stuck in and play noob lobby team games or single player and watch pros to copy them.
Once you get better you can 1v1 more and enjoy it once you get somewhat competent and get some wins. Don't mind the losses. Who cares
That is the neat part. You don't.
what? you can enjoy age of empires 2?
The answer is simple
You don't
This video feels a bit unfocused, I have to say. You're frequently jumping around and between different points without getting into them and plugging a bit too much of your own content for my liking.
play aoe4
Today i dropped 200 elo ... I try to enjoy this Game 🤒
I have those streaks too. My elo range is like 1950-2250
