Worst thing ever is when you are microing your Archers near the enemies base, everything is fine and than suddenly you realise that your whole eco got raided by Hussar and you are stuck with 12 vills or something.
Once we won a very long amazon tunnel where they siege onagered around the map and sent all their army into our back. I walled them to my side, still had the middle and pushed with all my force and he did not wanted to delete his troops and train at home but wanted to fight all through with them.... I erased all their eco and kept my little center area, then killed off their paladins later. Another really humiliating ways to lose (that happened not to my enemies but to me): Forgetting to go up imp when you are leading in castle...
Low elo exclusive forbidden technology : relaxing after destroying your opponent's main base and not realising he has TCs working on the sides of the map, which of course you haven't scouted.
I've been starting Vietnamese, that hasn't let a crack form yet in missing any upgrades for my econ. I actually think it might be an ameliorating (rectifying civilisation) if that's ever been your problem! Pick them up and just think about all of the wood you're saving and just BE HAPPY! P.S. If you're consistently missing them in the 50-60 minute mark or especially 56 min mark, that has to become a meme! [When you're menonite & take the hour long ride into town... but forget to collar your horses]!
Definitely I've experienced the hole in the wall, the DauT castle and the big shot. But I think that the worst is the hole in the wall, because it's totally your fault 🤣🤣
Worst lose is when you got 3 relics and you resign after 3 hours in game with no wood (opponent is also out of wood) :D i was tired and bored of it that i stopped focusing on win codition etc... Also guilty of forgetting eco upgrades - not having horse collar is nearly auto lose if its liek 30mins in game.
The moment when you lose the villager and waste the boar, killing with tc just because 3 seconds lag... Happens to me often and i bet it is worse than all
building a wonder thinking the game is over to tease the enemy one last time and then somehow loosing the game happened to a friend of mine, it was quite literally an ego check.
My most humiliating way to lose is when your teammate in team games curse your allies and just leave in midgame because he got scout rushed by 2 enemies but you weren't there to save him after 0,000001 seconds he pointed
It's worse when they rush to pick pocket just so they can be 50 minutes in-game without producing any army and then when you get rekt by 2v1 they /all GG noob
Finally upgraded to an ultrawide monitor! Me on arena: deleted back walls to make space but due to wider FOV, also deleted a few side walls and created a hole.
The worst is deleting idle villagers to make more pop space for military, but a villager is in a Castle or Town Center, so you end up deleting the Castle or Town Center.
My personal honorable mention: Queuing up for a game and then watching one of Hera's UA-cam videos, only to then get so entranced by the quality entertainment that you forget you were queued 😄.
That's bc Hera is speaking from his own experience, and I don't think a pro player resigns too soon too often. If they wanna resign, they ask their teammates if it's gg or not.
The hole in the wall is the most frustrating one by far. I mean, when you go out for a fwd castle you kinda know the risk implied and you accept it when you face death. When you are walled you are absolutely convinced that you are safe until the horror comes unexpectedly and destroys a game that you were chilling seconds ago. Absolute pain!
Other ways I would add to this list: 1) Completely dominate a TG but lose anyway because your allies resigned for no reason (happens a lot at mid-to-low elo). 2) Get your king sniped. 3) You're about to win but then your internet dies and you disconnect. 4) Get Persian douched. 5) Lose villagers to wildlife (especially if you didn't get loom). 6) You're heavily winning a post-imp game but eventually end up losing because the map runs out of resources and your opponent is Portuguese with Feitoria (this has happened to me). 7) Losing to a pure villager rush.
Thankfully I've only gotten walled in once in a 1v1 game, by the You Got Douched guy to keep me from escaping after he Persian Douched my TC...three times. It was so satisfying that I managed to win that one anyways by getting back onto gold for archers.
The most frustrating way to lose in my experience is when i click to go up and end up canceling with no explanation / when i think i clicked and i didn't. When that happens usually i'm the player that's defending and has no map control / not too much military, then the enemy reaches the next age first and he ends up with the pressure, more/better army or villagers and the map control
Regarding the eco upgrades - Heavy plow actually boosts farming eco by 5% unlike the other mill upgrades and pays back its cost within a few minutes. Something that's not prioritized a lot of times but could be very useful.
I think my worst way to lose a postimp winning position is not noticing a raid. That feeling when you notice you can't reproduce cause your res is at the limit, you take a look around and you have 25 vills and random red dots all over your base.
Forgetting to click up Thinking you're a different civ than what you really are Accidentally deleting villagers Killing the boar with TC Lag Getting douched (esp when the opponent is not even persians)
Recently i've got triple CD'd playing Vikings on Baltic against Japanese. I had around 90 vils and my oponent denied my access to water with a few galleys. I didn't want to bother with the game and just resigned... After tapping out i found out that my oponent had no water eco and only like 40 vills. Made both of us laugh a whole lot after i resigned since the other player screwed his eco so much that he went for a full in push. This started a nice conversation between the 2 of us. It was a great moment, but man... I am never resigning so soon lol
Worst thing ever is when you are happily booming away thinking things are great, then the Hard AI army shows up with a million units and you don't even have a single military building. Hence why I now watch AOE2 on UA-cam.
You can actually check the hole in the wall by clicking on palissade or stone wall, and check it around by it by moving around the possible blind spots, it helps me every time :))
The worst is definitely when there's a hole in your wall, you CHECK it with a vill but the pathing bugs out and they act like there's no hole. So you happily boom away and then there's 20 knights in your base. This is why I stopped playing archer civs. Too easy to die to one small mistake 11.
I just played a 3v3 with my friends tonight and got handcart after I got to imp. I was on 3 tcs the whole time with about 135 vils. Imagine if I had the upgrades XD
Probably worst feelings in aoe2 I got after: - losing all 8 gold miners to 5 hp scout when was micro arch vs arch. I heard eco attack alarms, but ignored them because enemy was attacking my dock and house with galley - because of enemy red ping, throw the game in micro intensive mangonel fight - and losing all 4 mangonels siege push, because enemy instaconverted 2 kts and i got 0 conversions back
My most annoying loss was when I was 40 minutes in, very intense game, finally got the lead... then the game disconnected because of that "external program interfered" bug. When I was really careful about having a clean install, no firewall and antivirus meddling, the bug didn't occur for a long time so I though I was safe... and then bam, it turns out that occasionally the game detects my video card driver as a threat and just closes the connection or outright crashes. I lost to a douche despite a 10+ vil lead because I had 59wood and lost lumber camp access. 59. 1 extra and I could have sent 15 vils to wood, built one farm, won the game. I was cursing veeeeeery loudly.
What about getting tc dropped in 4v4 arena match by persians and 2 other dudes just start spamming units to you. And of course team doesn't know how to play the game? Yes. It's annoying.
One more honourable mention: Post-imperial age, when your enemy is clearly dead but still sends a trickle of trash and refuses to resign. Get bored and quit the game, who cares about a few elo points anyway... 11 It's one of those situations where you have won but points-wise you lose.
Hey @Hera, bit of info for u. They have removed tower foundations (not sure when) from the safe delete setting in Options. Now it only covers Town Centers, Castles, Wonders & Monasteries thus it is far more useful.
Top 1 is just Rage Forest, you self are dominating, and suddenly you look back to your team they all dead and resign, and your whole progress was for nothing.
worst way ive ever died was against an enemy going loads of scouts. Got full wall hes bashing against walls, I know he just wasted everything and I'll crush him in castle. He attacks my side wall i start repairing and he moves to the other side. I send my vill back to work very shure I got him. He swings back again to the other side where i have a piece of weak wall, so I place a house behind and go back to managing my eco. I Hit castle untouched, all of a sudden 15 scouts In my base i look back to the wall and a deer has blocked my house from getting build. At least he acknowledged that the deer was the mvp and he was completely dead otherwise 😅
Getting douched and harassed in a team game until you're only alive with a handful of vils, basically not being able to play while the rest of your team continues to play for like an hour just to eventually all resign without saying anything right when you finally click up to imp after a long and painful reboom. But yeah, getting walled in sucks too.
Team games and you sac yourself with like a quick rush or take on two opponents, while assigning your teammate to boom or get a healthy castle age. But they at best fast castle and start sending military, without doing any the economy that was the point. Or they send you resources... when you already fleeing and all you need and want is the time to rebuild. Naaa anything 1vs1 is fine because it is on me... the worst way to lose is doing great and have the team mess it up.
I would put a hole in the wall higher on the list than a denied castle, because when you decide to drop a castle, it's already clear that there is some risk involved and at the worst it's a bad strategic decision, from which you can learn, while a hole in the wall is completely unnecessary and is just makes you regretful and disappointed.
Yeah for new player, when your ennemy kill your sheep and you dont know what to do after caus you are biginer so you loose too much time to ake wood for farme and your ennemy juste have the double of your economy and you loose
