    I totally agree on your chicken idea. A whole chicken can provide a meal, some soup and meat for sandwiches. Three meals from one whole chicken. Thank you ,Marcie! 💚💖💙

    Thank you!! I enjoyed this video. Sometimes the problem is nobody taught them how to really cook from scratch. My kids friends grew up on McDonald's and TV dinners. The mom(s) didn't cook. My son would be at his friends house and everyone was saying "I'm hungry". My son would say, just cook something. They'd say there's nothing here to eat. My son told me their house literally has tons of food, they just didn't know how to cook. They were impressed when my boys would cook a full meal from basic ingredients from scratch. It looked good, smelled good and tasted good.

    We are retired seniors and the main ways I save money are in the summer I grow a garden and buy bulk food from local Amish and can it to eat all year. The second way is I am able to get high quality local meat at an Amish butcher shop, but we cut back on how much we eat. When we eat tacos it is half ground beef and half lentils. Yesterday i had a package of two chicken breast and they looked big so I chopped one up and made stir fry and while that was cooking I boiled the other. Today I made chicken salad out of it. Instead of a beef roast that would give us too much leftovers I buy two and cut up and cook them in pint jars in my pressure canner and get 14 jars/meals out of the two roasts. It's a better portion for two people and there are lots of things I can make with them.

    Marcie, I have started following you a week ago. My first impression was wow what an amazing person ❤️Please Don’t try to explain yourself to people that don’t deserve it. Food stamps or not… You’ve done great.I’m 65 years old.As a child I grew up on food stamps, Christmas was used toys and etc. The help my Mom received for me and my four brothers, molded who I am today. I started working at 12 years old. Retired from the Healthcare system. I will FOREVER be thankful for my Mom putting her pride beneath her and reaching out for help. It still wasn’t easy. I remember standing in lines for commodities. Also remembering food stamps didn’t mean soap, shampoo and toiletries. These things became precious to us. Marcie just keep being you.🙏❤️

    Not sure if you’ve ever made your own corn tortilla chips, just cut corn tortillas into 6, and bake for about 8-10 minutes!

      I used to when I only had 4 little kids. It was fun! Then from 5-10 kids I got lazy and started buying them. Thank you for reminding me. Now that I am back to 5 kids I think I have time to make them without taking 2 hours, haha! Spencer has always loved tortilla chips and I was always afraid it'd take me hours to cook them when he was home because he ate so many.

    This is reminiscent of the way I grew up eating. Mom taught us the vitamins and minerals in the foods, taught us how to cook and as we grew a bit older, how to shop. All evening meals included a green leafy salad. Bread was set on the table each night for those that wanted it. She did stress variety not only in meals but also flavor pallets. We drank mostly unsweetened tea or water. Milk was available for any that wanted it but no one did for evening meal

      Really? Thank you! I think it would be SUPER fun to help and coach people. And just teach them. It makes me sad how much processed food we eat and how hard it is to quickly make good food for our families because nobody else is. It's so acceptable to serve pizza at every party instead of cobb salad with homemade dressing and fresh picked berries. I wonder how I can reach more people.

    I actually think that nonorganic food is catching up to organic food in price lately. For me I buy too much I am single 62 yr woman and I am finding for myself that I have to put a lot more thought in food budgeting. When children were going up when I went to my sister I would shop at an Amish outlet and found many deals. I have thought a lot about you first part video You do very good in creating meals to stretch your budget I lived on food stamps for awhile when my children were young also. She was given to us and we had her a year. Best milk ever! And I made cheese, yogurt, ice cream (with just the milk and 1/4 cup of raw sugar), dark chocolate milk. I sure miss it. She was very old and she died last Easter. So sad. I miss her. I think I'm ready for another one. At first I tried to be grateful I wasn't tied to home and milking every day. We did the trips in August and October. It's nice to go camping and do long day trips like taking Thomas to college without worrying about being here to milk. But that milk made me feel so much better about my health. I had more energy than ever.

    Good morning from our working farm in New Hampshire. I just tuned in to hear you over explaining yourself to some inconsiderate person's comment. You should not feel you need to do that, but I can see it hit a nerve. I sometimes feel that way if I get a hurtful comment regarding farming, when their conception around farming can be way off. Rarely a glamour job. Lots of careful thought has to go into farming these days, as well as careful thought needs to go into feeding your family healthy foods on a budget. If I was in your position, I would take assistance to take care of my children if I qualified. We have never had to accept help, but I would. We are all on S/S on our farm and work. My husband turns 80 this year. Today's economy reminds me of depressions times. Things are tight for us and we are able to work the farm. I see you doing plenty around your home by way of having a garden, chickens, etc. You pick berries and look around your area for part time work. So do not pay attention to what I consider to be careless comments. I suspect one reason it gets to you, is that you are diligent to do whatever you can in order to keep going. I'm impressed and proud of your efforts. God is good. ~ Diane

    Great tips, thank you! Baked chickpeas with seasonings of choice is a good chip alternative. I make Greek yogurt from 1% milk in my instapot since it has no added sugars. When I cook beans, I save the cooking water and use it as broth in soups.

    My experience is that those who decry eating healthy because of cost have never really tried it and are looking for a quick and easy excuse to not make any changes. Healthy food is more filling so less is needed. Marcie is a most remarkable woman and mother. I am so inspired by her approach to life. And, her children are phenomenal. Hi, I wanted to comment in on your other video as well but with a newborn I totally forgot about it. 😂
    You’re right it is possible to eat real foods on a budget. My local Kroger store has organic blueberries for 4.99 18 oz packages. 6$ savings. Great price here in Los Angeles, California. So I grabbed the limit will be freezing four out of the five and eating them throughout the upcoming months.
    I also have started implementing eating real foods to lose weight. It’s been a couple of weeks and I see my body changing. Haven’t lost weight yet but 2 pounds. Yet, I no longer crave sugar. This is a big change as before I had to mentally struggle with only eating one cookie and I would be drained at the end of the day. Now I don’t even crave the cookie and when I do eat it, it’s too sweet. I believe the weight will come off because I’m just not eating a lot of sugar and I feel great. I’ve been yo-yo dieting my entire life. I finally got fed up. I’ll report back in a year.

    • @singlemomonafarm
      @singlemomonafarm  8 днів тому +1

      Yay! Thank you so much for telling me! Yes, the yo-yo dieting is what I want people to be able to give up. To put their energy into their talents, hobbies, family, serving, etc. Instead of so much energy into dieting, obsessing about food and weight, being discouraged, thinking bad thoughts about themselves. Eating real food freed up a lot of mental space and time for me to focus on other things. And feel great too. And when I feel good I can care about others more. I also have a better relationship with God as I'm grateful for my body and life instead of mad at myself for not having better self control or something. Way to go!! Keep it up!

      @ yes. Same exact situation. I’m even waking up earlier to knock out cleaning then when they wake up I spend time with the little ones. A month ago I got up when they did. Won’t lie, my energy a little up always wish for more but I don’t feel drained by noon. which is 10x better. I’m a better mom. Let’s keep going!

    • @singlemomonafarm

      Haha! Most were excited to try. They've always loved being a part of cooking and shopping so they jumped in looking for heathy food too. I think it helps that we are home together all the time. They don't know about a lot of junk food that is out there. They never eat out. First start adding the carrots and other sides with the chips so that they get used to having fruits and veggies (or hard boiled eggs or other real food) with their sandwich. They'll start decreasing the amount of chips they eat at least. Then some times just don't put out tortilla chips and they probably won't even notice! I gave some more tips on my next video!

    Not that you need another job or service opportunity but as others have said, not everyone was taught to cook. Maybe you could off cooking with real food classes and teach people. Also my mom was a foster parent to many teens who had zero knowledge about food preparation unless it came from a can or box. So while they were in her home she would try to teach them some basic skills. You have taught your children so well, wouldn’t it be neat if you and the kids could work with foster youth that might be interested. Just a thought. I great at finding jobs for others 😂 you can ignore my bright ideas like my family does 😂

    • @singlemomonafarm
      @singlemomonafarm  8 днів тому +2

      Your ideas are very bright! I have never thought of this. I assumed everyone was taught to cook. I mean, how else do you eat? Haha. That is soooo neat your mom was a foster mom to teens and taught them to cook. This warms my heart. It sounds so fun! I would love to teach kids to cook. I wonder if moms would be willing to bring their kids all the way out to my house. I should have done this when we lived in a neighborhood and kids could walk over and cook and then walk home with a full meal for their family. I wonder how I could set this up. Thank you for telling me about this!

    I heard you mention raw milk. Do you know you can make your own cheeses sour cream butter etc. I think the cost is all up front to make I watch homesteading with the Zimmermans and she does a lot of homemade recipes. She has a lot of expensive appliances but I think there is budget friendly ones to use also. I am looking at making cheeses I need to purchase some raw milk some where. Also another goal 2025 for me is more canning I have done in the past but want to get back to it

      Yes, we had a cow for a year and loved making our own cheese, butter, yogurt, etc. It was the best! Just thinking about it is making me miss it. It's illegal to buy raw milk here so I think I just need to get a cow again. It's hard to travel and I do want to go camping and such. But the health benefits of having a cow are worth it.

    1st off foodstamps means you do not earn enough money to provide all the food for you and your family. If you do not qualify for food stamps, it means you make enough money to provide the food without help. 2nd, if you eat healthy whole foods, you will fill up quicker and stay full longer. Therefore, you will eat less. You will no longer eat half a bag of chips that cost $4-$5 each. And then rummage around for something sweet. Junk food is a vicious cycle. The more you eat it, the more you crave it. 3rd the health benefits out way everything, most of the ingredients in the crap people buy they can't pronounce it little alone know what it is.😢
