    Thanks for an in depth review of bikes available for little tykes and not from big box stores or expensive brand name ones. You gave me more options to research.

    Can the handlebars on the Raleigh Rowdy be easy changed to something more upright? There is one for sale locally in mint shape for a very cheap price but the riding position isn't as upright as I would like for my 4 year old. The attraction is the front/rear handbrake and no coaster brake which is my preference. Any thoughts on how easy it would be to get a bit more of an upright riding position?

      Yes, that should definitely be possible, and replacing with a bar with a higher rise should certainly help!

    What is your opinion on Specialized RipRock, Giant Animator 16, or Trek bikes? Those are the brands sold here at local bike shops outside of cheap Walmart bikes.

      The Specialized Riprock and Trek Precaliber are decent little bikes. Our primary hesitation with them is that they have coaster brakes and no handbrakes.

    Budget bikes for a 4year old: $260 and under? Wow.
    Glad for you parents that would consider 200, 300 or more in your price range. None of the bikes listed are in my price range.

      @Scott Exactly, the quality ones hold their value but the cheap ones don't. I just bought a $375 bike for my 3.5 year old and then his 3 month old sister can ride it once he's done. Used ones right now are selling for $300, so I figure if I can get 6 years out of this bike, it'll end up costing me about $12.50 a year. And they will have a whole lot more fun they they would have on a cheap bike.

    How’s the REI 16” bike?

    • @Twowheelingtotsbikes

      The REI 16" Rev has some great things going for it, but it also has a few issues we would like to see fixed. While it is a great quality bike and lightweight bike for the price, the geometry of the bike is pretty strange. The seat is set up pretty high compared to the handlebars, which isn't bad for aggressive riders, but considering most 16" riders are relatively new to riding, our testers found it to be a bit awkward, especially compared to other bikes on this list.

    Apparently there has been a worldwide shortage of bikes over the pandemic. Went to get a first bike for a just-turned 4-yr-old, 44" tall, about 18.75" inseam. Only bike available was 16" Liv Adore. Thoughts? She tried it out and I felt it was too small because her knees were so close to the handlebars while riding and the seat was already in the highest position possible. Sales associate claimed it looked appropriate, but I wasn't convinced. He also said these bikes won't last long since kids are growing so fast. True, so is it wise to buy a bike that's already on the highest setting with absolutely no room to grow? 20" Liv Adore was a bit too big. Any thoughts?

      Hey there! There are actually plenty of bikes online that are in stock. www.twowheelingtots.com/best-kids-16-inch-bikes/
      Check out the Guardian Bikes on this list. Based on the inseam you stated, their 16" would be a great first bike!

      @@Twowheelingtotsbikes ;-) Belsize BLZ16 is super lightweight at 12.57lbs and kids could ride smoothly with the grease-free, maintenance-free belt. It also has two short-reach, front and rear, V-pull brakes. All the parts on the Belsize are from brand names: Continental belt, Kenda tires, Tektro brakes. It's a bang for the buck and will surprise your kids!

    What about the Early Rider series: Belter 16 & Seeker 16. They look like top grade bikes.

    • @Twowheelingtotsbikes
      @Twowheelingtotsbikes  4 роки тому

      The Early Rider series of bikes are amazing. We were able to test out an older model years ago, but haven't yet had a chance to take a look at their updated models (but are working on it!). The reason why the Early Rider's aren't on this list is that they have been hard to come by here in the US. Their supply chain appears to be worked out as they are not available at REI and other smaller retailers. The Early Riders series are also pretty high-end price-wise (and for good reason!) and we tried to make sure we highlighted bikes at different price points.
