- Disney's The Lion King--The UNTOLD Messed Up Reason Scar Neglected Nuka
Did you know that before Kovu was ever born, there was a good chance that Nuka was the next in line to take over as King after Scar? But when push came to shove, everyone, mainly Scar, decided that the crown should fall onto the shoulders of Kovu, the main protagonist of The Lion King 2: Simba’s pride. Beyond that though, fans learned throughout the movie that Scar and many of the other lions that became known as the Outlanders had neglected Nuka, and continued to neglect him all the way up to his death in the film. And for a while, it just felt like that was sort of Nuka’s role in the movie. Looking back on it, there may have been an actual reason that Nuka was treated in such a horrible way. Be warned, it’s messed up.

Maybe it was because Nuka was the eldest and Scar wanted the YOUNGEST to be King since he himself was the younger brother.

Scar was indeed the younger brother. Considering he something like: ‘why if it isn’t my big brother, coming down to mingle with the commoners’.
I can’t remember if it is exactly worded like that but he DEFINITELY says BIG BROTHER!
I’ve seen the movie so many times and it’s my fave movie 😊
It's honestly pretty sad. Nuka devoted everything he had to trying to earn his mother's favor and love, even exclaiming as he climbed the dam "This is for you, mother!" Everyone loved and favored Kovu, literally singing his praise directly in front of Nuka. It's also not a far stretch of the imagination to assume that Nuka's malnutrition was caused by being denied food due to the fact that he was a non-breeding male, and there was a better heir option. All the while, he was often put in charge of the cub that took his place as heir, AND his place in the family. He's the sibling that watched his single parent, the one he relied on for comfort, guidance, and nurturing reject him and dote on their new, better son who was born "right."
Zira isn't Kovu's mother. After a few videos, I got curious and began to study everything associated with "The Lion King". Including the books. After I got done with the books I watched some more videos, and after watching the videos I was brought to the conclusion that Kovu isn't Zira's child. It appears that Kovu's real parents were killed by Zira, And kovu was kidnapped. Since Scar refused Nuka as his heir, he wanted someone better fit to lead however the next born cub was a female, I'm talking about Vitani. Vitani is female, therefore she can't be a king. Since Zira couldn't produce any offspring that was too Scar's liking, she had to find a heir and that's when she found Kovu.
I came here to say this. I bristled every time he called Kovu Ziras cub… it was so painfully clear he wasn’t and was stolen. I suspect from the pride of darker furred lions in the lion guard.
I think that's part of the reason why in the end kovu turned his back on zira/her plan to take over (besides falling in love aswell I think deep down he always had the good morals from his real parents)
Yeah kovu wasnt scars or ziras as they legit loom nothing alike disney actually regarded this situation stating the same thing thank you for saying this i waiting for someone to say it lol

@jarrellcrump6095, you are wrong. kovu, vitani, and nuka are all of zira's cubs. If you read Lion King 2 fanfiction then you would easily come to believe that kovu, vitani, and nuka aren't zira's cubs but the writers of lion king 2 movie script stated that kovu, nuka, and vitani are zira's cubs. So you must've included fanfiction to come to your conclusion that states that nuka is not zira's cubs. Obviously your conclusion is wrong.
Poor Nuka! He deserved much better in the film. On a side note, you could make a video about Kovu's true parents. That would be cool.
Nuka was one of my favorites “Roasty toast the princess” cracks me up every time! I always felt so bad for him, he was a very interesting character as well. Every time he was on screen he would steal the spotlight!

Well another way to look at it is Scar was actually correcting how Ahadi treated him so the younger cub could become king instead of the older cub, like Mufasa.

Scar saw the worst in himself in Nuka. That's why he passed over Nuka.
Correction: Kovu isn’t Scar’s son, and therefore he isn’t related to Kiara. Nuka and Vitani aren’t said not to be Scar’s children in the film so it’s a 50/50 go.
I headcanon that Scar, being the narcissist he was, refused to make Nuka his heir because he couldn’t look him in the eye and be reminded of him. Same for Vitani. He picked Kovu because his fur color, and green eyes, reminded Scar of himself in the best way possible, and thus Scar gave him the name of “Kovu.” I also headcanon that Kovu was the product of an affair Zira had with another male for the purpose of giving Scar a successor. I imagine that Scar was tricked into believing that he was Kovu’s father, and thus, he chose him to become his heir to the throne.

@@river-melody007lover In the early versions of the script, he was going to be but they realized that would make him Simba's cousin and thus incestual if was in love with Simba's daughter. So they scrapped that.

@@shannenwilliams9866 Not really. If you consider "The Lion Guard" to be canon, when we see Scar's past, he was the leader of his own Lion Guard that was entirely made up of other male lions that lived in the pride. One of them could have easily been Nala's mother.
Um... Kovu was adopted, NOT Scar's son. This was stated plainly at several points during the movie.

I think the reason why nuka wasn’t made king was because he was a runt and looked different from scar then Kovu,and Kovu actually looks healthy enough to be king unlike nuka he looks unhealthy because of the way he was born and maybe because nuka doesn’t kinda look like scar but with Kovu scar saw him within Kovu then he did with nuka, and I do feel bad for nuka because he would always try to show his mother that he can be better king and provider then Kovu.
The deleted scene of Nuka's death was long and showed him saying to his mom, "looks like I finally got your attention, didn't I?" before the two smile at each other and he dies.
Well, we have seen quite frequently that true "empathy" is certainly not one of his strongest traits as has been shown to extend even toward family members when he murdered his own brother and tried to have the same done to his still-young nephew, and not with a shred of remorse. Are we really to be surprised that such a character would then go on to neglect his own offspring and handpick someone else's as his successor? Is this not a villain after all?
Maybe not but it just hurts in the eye that he was literally like Nuka and didn't take this as a chance to correct what happened to him in the past I mean usually characters in whatever story do that, so it's very weird ironically 😅

I honestly wish Nuka would have been treated better as he needed😔 he tried so hard to make his mother proud but they sadly resulted in his death.. I feel like vitani and kovu liked him better then zira.

It’s been a while so I might have forgotten, but does it ever say in the film that Scar ever saw Kovu? My thought is that he was chosen to lead because Zira hated that Scar died and stole a cub that happened to be the spitting image of him. The thing is Kovu is about the same age as Kiara. Kiara was at earliest conceived during the “Can You Feel the Love Tonight” sequence but was most likely conceived sometime after Simba became king. That means Scar should have been killed before Kovu was born. My thought is after being driven out by the Simba loyalists Zira and the other Scar loyalists probably sought shelter with a nearby pride, this didn’t work out but while they were in the territory Zira saw Kovu as a newborn with a shocking similarity to Scar and either assumed Kovu was Scar’s reincarnation (green eyes are not exactly a common color) or thought he was Scar’s son and took him only to decide later he wasn’t.
Mufasa is the older brother. Because in the lion guard, it is said that the second born club of the king & queen of the pride lands. And Scar was the leader of the lion guard before Kion.
Nuka should be treated with more love to prevent him from dying.He also should be smart instead of dumb.
He was the Fredo of Scar's family.

When i was a kid i used to think zira killed Nuka (when she was holding his jaw when he was being crushed by the logs) so he died quicker. Wasnt until I watched when i was older I realized i was wrong lol

The story of scar is sad but nukas story was sadder because he was not taken care of and Zara was not a bad lioness she was just mad of scars death and I think nuka would’ve do what loud woulden,t do to simba
I have a theory that in the deleted scene Zira said no never and she looked kinda happy when she died oh, and I forgot to mention. She didn’t accept help because she wanted to die and stay with nuka
It’s strange that Scar’s biological son Nuka doesn’t really look him (I mean he does but not as much) but his adopted son Kovu is the spitting image of him
I personally think Disney should do a sequal to do with where kovu was kidnapped from by zira and finding out who his actual parents we’re, kovu did have a brown mane which proves he wasn’t related to scar at all and had darker fur while nuka did have black mane but was unhealthy to rule, vitani being the second child born by zira looked similar to zira the way she would grin smile and such but wasn’t a male to rule, scar would of told zira to steal another prides cub that was healthier than nuka and was a male lion fit to rule

Nuka openly says that scar wasn’t even kovu’s father. That is mainly bc of kovus love interest with simbas daughter. Otherwise they would be cousins.

What if instead of "1 1/2", Disney released a truer "The Lion King 3"? Where it's about Kiara and Kovu's cubs.
It’s probably because he and Zira are half cousins. It may be that when ahadi’s queen uru. Why you ask? When the selfish lion mated with her mother he wanted a son but when uru was born he banished her and her mother from the outlands. He then mated with another lionesses who was a bit older but she did had a son. Which means uru and the other lion were half siblings. Which made it awkward for scar mate with his cousin zira. Inbreeding was in fact why nuka was unhealthy to be an heir to the throne. For example AA with aa will have another child who had the same genetic with the same code will cause a bad situation for the siblings offspring.

I say another theory that Scar actually wanted Nuka to become his heir because he sees himself in Nuka. It was Zira who tried to get Kovu to become king because he was born stronger but Scar refused to acknowledge Kovu as his son.
However, upon his death, Scar tried to say that Kovu is not his heir but only got as fas as "Kovu is-" before dying, making everyone think he wanted Kovu to be heir.

No Nuka was just not fitted in any ways to become king. That's why Scar chose Kovu.
I've seen a theory on DeviantArt that scar was going to make nuka his heir but after he was killed zira changed the heir to kova and told the rest of the outsiders that scar had changed the heir from nuka to kovu which is why nuka was so hostile towards kovu
You didn't actually explained why Scar would pass Nuka even if their story is very similar.

Techniqly Zira didn't even exist before Scar was killed. Because in the first lion king every female lion was on the same side as Simba's mom aka against Scar, charging in attack when Scar admitted to killing mufasa. Plus all the lioness were there to see how Scar died. Yet zira sais Simba killed Scar.
Plus Simba must of had 2 cubs but lost the first one, because at the end of #1, Rafiki is presenting a cub next to the young adult Simba, with fur the shade of a male, and in the middle of daytime. But in #2, the newborn cub is presented in the morning, with a fur coat the shade of a female lion, and Simba is older too
But Nuka IS Scar's son. Kovu is not.
"Scar wasn't even his father" Nuka stated. With similar size to Kiara; Kovu & Vitani would have been born similar time.... after Scar's death. The time line does not match.

What I don’t understand is how did scar have kovu if the first lion king didn’t have him in it then all of a suddenly he appears in simba’s pride scar was obviously already gone in the second one sorry I’m just confused about all that I have a disability called hydrocephalus so if anyone comments please put it in good detail I also have a learning disability so don’t know big words that well yeah I know off topic but just an fyi just trying to understand the movie more

I'll be honest, I thought Scar was infertile 😅
that's pretty sad. I actually liked Nuka honestly. felt he deserved more love from the others than he got. Also even if Kovu isn't scar's cub I think maybe another reason Scar picked Kou over Nuka, was (if Scar didn't count Vitani as second in line) maybe the reason he said 'he saw himself in Kovu' was maybe because he was the second male born, much like Scar was, and wanted to give Kovu as the 'second' born the chance to be a true king like he didn't get to have.

Okay i have been thinking this trough but if they are scars cubs then simba practicaly killed his cousin and his other cousin is dating his daughter so isnt that illegal or something? (however killing your own brother isnt exactly legal either) but if this all is the case then i just ruined my whole childhood😂😅 and the fact that lion king is much darker then i thought it was isnt a thing i want to think of too much

I honestly think Scar would not have been a good parent. He hardly helped raise Nuka because he was too busy ruling Priderock along killing Mufasa. He lied about Simba being dead which he was still alive. He is not a good ruler or father. Nuka turned out just like Scar. Rotten and spoiled and treated Kovu like a bag of dirt when he was a cub. Nuka never deserved better. Sad that he died but he deserved it. He was a brat. No one respected him. He is truly an outsider. Zira was certainly no mother. She was brutal and vicious. Sad that she died as well but she was greedy. Just. Like. Scar. Period. Don't feel bad for those banished lions!!!!
There are populations of male maneless lions in both Africa & in India(known for their much smaller manes) that are very healthy & lead their pride.
It’s really just depends on the Lion’s genetics & where they live.
