- Hogwarts Legacy is the new Harry Potter video game to release and due to past comments that JK Rowling made on the LGBTQ community, not only has she received a lot of backlash and foul language, but so have the Harry Potter fans and gamers who choose to indulge in anything related to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter.
In this video I talk about the growing controversy of the game and how ridiculous it is to compare everyone who partakes in entertainment from Harry Potter to be labeled as Homophobic for simply buying the latest Hogwarts Legacy video game.

This whole situation sucks so bad. It's amazing that we are actually focusing more on this controversies instead of something trully horrible, like the war or everything that's been happening in China these last years.
What I don’t get is, why is this game the time where people go full blown hate filled on Harry Potter fans, they don’t boycott Lego Harry Potter, they don’t boycott Harry Potter in universal or anything else
Absolutely agree with this comment and Eric’s video! These people think it is ok to go after individuals, yet I don’t see angry mobs outside Sony, or Warner Bros offices, or the publishers of the books. If this whole thing was that important to them, they would have the courage of their convictions and make public protests instead of hiding behind a Twitter account!

In India there is a boycott movement going on against a film "Pathaan" just because the lead actor is Muslim and title of movie is Pathaan they see that movie as Anti Hinduism and Anti India.
Though it's actually funny that their movement ended up giving the film extra publicity and now Pathaan movie is 6th Highest Grossing Indian movie of all time

I get people not liking her. And think she is evil and everything like that. But how is what they are doing not the same. They are judging people on something they like or enjoy and now telling them they are wrong. Basically the same thing she did just in a different way. We all don't have to agree on things. Hell I don't agree with everything he says about movies and shows. But I love to hear his opinion so I can see what he didn't like or liked towards something. We don't need to agree to be nice to each other.
They think they're entitled just because JK Rowling might make some money from the game. I just don't get it. Even if they're right about this that doesn't give them an excuse to treat people the way they're treating them now. It's not like everybody is buying the game to prove that they hate all these people and want them to die or something. I honestly don't care if you think people shouldn't buy the game. They're buying the game because they love Harry Potter not because they hate your rights. So even if JK Rowling gets money when buying the game that doesn't give you an excuse to bully them. It's not like that's going to fix anything. Especially when they already own the game. In fact all this harassment is just making even more people want to buy the game.

Yes I have. I really don't have anything to say about it. It just felt like a prologue.
I did finally see the first three episodes of The Bad Batch Season 2 and they were AMAZING! Especially episode 3. I needed a minute after I saw that episode.
I will consider making reviews of The Mandalorian on Instagram or maybe even TikTok. I haven't decided yet.
Over at Prime Animations, we literally just encountered this mob this past month.
It was the same outrage, the same tactics, and the same hypocrisy.
Fortunately, I'm very aware of current events and I'm very familiar with these tactics. Thankfully, our channel continues to grow as it stays focused on producing an awesome animated film for all the fans to enjoy.

I was in the reddit sub of Hogwarts Legacy when I noticed a bunch of comments that were not inline to what I experienced from simply playing the game. I really didn't understand it all. You summed it up nicely for someone who is merely a gamer and not thinking about anything else other than enjoying a game.

Anyone who harasses, insults or attacks someone for playing this game is an asshole, plain and simple. You don't like what JK Rowling said, fine that's your opinion, but trying to force it on people like it's some holier than though moral crusade is beyond insane and anyone who legit believes they have any moral high ground in this situation is out of their mind.
It's a video game, a fun looking video game and JK Rowling is free to think whatever she wants as is anyone else.
Don't like what she's said? She's lobbying for the removal of rights of a minority group which the game helps fund to do so and is also anti-semwtic propaganda, its not a large ask for people not play a game. Is indulging in nostalgia really that more important than the life's of people who are frequently berated and abused and stereotyped?
Some individuals may take it too far but I've seen far more instances of defenders of this game bully and egg people on to commit suicide to people for making the mildest criticism and pointing out the games antisemitic roots and ties.

When I was doing my research on this topic I came across a trans youtuber who said they boycotted the game because they stand with their trans brothers and sister and right next to the trans flag that was hanging on their wall they had a Soviet Union flag right next to it and that threw me off big time idk if they took the video down or not but I think it’s still out there on UA-cam

@Adam Grunther, The character of Jack Horner was hilarious, particularly in his past on why he became a jealous bad guy because of Pinocchio, while the character of the wolf who has witnessed Puss wasting his 8 lives and is after him was a very intimidating villain and at times scary when we whistles in my opinion.
Gaming in general has become so toxic in so many ways and areas... I've withdrawn from it to the point I barely game anymore. That's kind of sad considering my gaming history. But this isn't about me.

My wife grew up with Harry Potter. I'm talking like buying the books way back when, when nobody really knew what they were. I met her on the internet using mIRC. I forget what she had going on exactly at that time... a channel of her own or something (sorry this was 23 years ago, my memory kind of sucks a bit now) but I recall seeing Hogwarts, and having no clue or idea what that was even about.
She's bought all the books, and has extensive memorabilia etc. It's been a hobby, and a great source of joy for her over the years.
As I mentioned I've withdrawn from so many areas of gaming etc... I pre-ordered this game on PC for her, as a Valentine's Day gift. Completely oblivious to the controversy surrounding it etc. I had some comments lobbed my way on some social media sites... and it was "here we go again" with whatever the current mob mentality issue of the day is. It's exhausting.
I've had the game installed and ready for her to play. She had early access due to the pre-order. And due to all the BS surrounding the game...she's not even played it yet. I can't even tell you how sad this make me.

We've played Diablo III together for the past decade now. It's what got her into PC gaming, I had to build her a machine...after she watched me playing, and tried it out on my rig.
She's enjoying it so far Hogwarts that is. So money well spent. :)
P.S. I told her she needs to pick up her pace a bit... she has until 6/6 when Diablo IV releases! :D

Overusing the same words is a trap that you can very easily fall into when writing a script. I always thought I did a good job at avoiding it. 😅
Hey Eric, I got one question to ask?
As someone who loved Harry Potter, but also loved many trans people, my plan was always to buy the game and just donate an equal amount to a trans charity. I then saw one of my friends dismiss this as “worthless” because buying the game still bolstered Rowling’s fame and power, even if I was also helping trans people.
I’m feeling really torn here because the way I see it, almost no one on earth has the wealth and influence of JKR. Royalties from video game sales are a drop in the bucket for this woman. At the same time, I want to hear out my trans friends. There’s no good answer for me to this problem, and the dilemma you pointed out about how all consumption is pretty much inevitably unethical is kind of the part that’s pissing me off here. How many powerful companies (who oppose pro trans legislation) are we supporting every day? Walmart, for example, is extremely conservative and lobbies against progressive legislation. Every single one of the people I’m talking about has spent hundreds of dollars collectively at Walmart and I don’t see any boycott happening.
Capitalism is a flawed system, and it sucks that I have to support people whom I disagree with, but this is endemic to living in this society and this problem is just not quite as simple as people are acting like it is.
All that said, it still feels wrong to ignore my trans friends. So here I am rambling in a UA-cam comments section.
It's really not helped by JK Rowling stating publicly that she sees her royalties as evidence people agree with her and thus emboldening her to continue. It's also important to distinguish essentials from this, like how the video mentions "sweatshops" yeah clothes are essentials, games not so much. People have mentioned mobiles, in an age of copper lines being removed and QR codes, also an essential item.
If you allow someone to take joy out of your life because they disagree with it, they are not your friend.
Honestly, I hate the complaint that ‘buying the game is giving money to Rowling’ because until now she has never used the money to organize anti-trans campaigns or anything. Like any human being she’s just voicing her opinions. Doesn’t make a difference whether she’s poor or rich

They are also very hypocritical because most of these people attacking everyone use Twitter as their main social media. The current owner Elon musk ( I don't really like him or hate him just stating things he has said) had openly stated he doesn't support trans people or the LGBT. It's been known for a long time even before he bought Twitter, basically meaning they care more about using a social media platform then trans rights making the argument very hypocritical and those same people probably use tiktok which is owned by tencent which works closely with the Chinese government to help control and censor what the Chinese people take in media wise, which has been known for years and that means they support the Chinese government keeping control over their oppressed people. It's crazy how the world works and how people will jump through some serious mental hoops just to make themselves seem the morally superior person.

Actually, if you are buying from Amazon, you are both directly supporting Amazon and taking advantage of Amazon's mistreatment of its employees. The mistreatment of Amazon employees is based on maximizing output, meaning customers are directly benefiting from said mistreatment.
I'm part of LGBTQ and I'll play Hogwarts legacy but that doesn't mean I support jk Rowling or am transphobic
The wording is veerrryyy generous about what jk Rowling has done, she hasn't just said some transphobic stuff. She actively puts money into organisations that try to take right away from trans people. People still should be allowed to play the game but they have the right to know that what they're going to play actively supports someone who's trying to take rights away from trans people. I think people are definitely taking this out of proportion though, and just scream instead of explaining why they're upset

I went to harry potter world and saw a few people with the trans flag. Im gonna assume these people hate raiding are like crazy vegans, giving everyday people a bad rep (i love vegan food but some of the people are so preachy). Many of my friends are trans and we all hate jk rowling, but we all love the series, and im not stopping because of her.

Look what happened to Percy Jackson. That fanbase has been waiting over a decade for a faithful adaptation after those atrocious films, and hype was incredibly high for the new show. And then the fanbase fractured when it was announced that an African-American girl was cast as Annabeth Chase. Though frankly, I'm not sure what Riordan was expecting when this same fanbase went ballistic back in 2010 just over the film's actress not being blonde.
Frankly, the behavior from both sides was disgusting. Blasting the author is one thing, but directing that vitriol at a twelve-year old girl was utterly reprehensible. And Riordan wasn't exactly clean in this mess when he responded by calling his critics racist. And it's literally just about that one casting. They also race-swapped a ton of other characters like Grover, Chiron and the Gods and no one cared.
There are alot of scum in this world and I'm not surprised that community is like that

Harry Potter is a series of books and movies designed for children. I read the books growing up and my immediate thoughts were not where are the Trans characters it was more along the lines of wow what an imaginative and interesting world these books and movies have created.
People didn't watch the new Batman movie in 2022 and say why isn't Batman a trans Bat person?. JK Rowling may have some view points that people don't agree with but Harry Potter is still the same as it's always been a story for children about wizard's, witch's and magical creatures pure fiction and a rather harmless one at that.
