- James Gunn has revealed part of his DC Slate and in this video I talk about how his DC Slate of Superman Legacy, The Brave and the Bold, Lanterns, Paradise Lost, Swamp Thing, The Authority, Booster Gold, Supergirl Woman of Tomorrow, Waller and Creature Commandos is such an ingenious move for the DCU's future slate.

James Gunn isn’t always goofy about his movies. They’re pure heartfelt and some that are dark than you expect. He explained storytelling is always important and wants to give the vision of the writers and directors to give their style in each film, so they look and feel different while still connected in one single universe.
I’m honestly really excited for this. On top of these movies and shows being very different and promising compared to the MCU, the people James have put in charge alongside him are fantastic choices. Watchmen was a phenomenal show (and in my opinion one of the greatest modern comic book shows of all time) that won MANY awards and received great acclaim so Crystal Henry is a great addition and as a huge fan of Doom Patrol I’m happy to have Jeremy Carver on board. Drew Goddard is also set to be attached and he created the Daredevil show (arguably the best Marvel show ever made), so we have very talented and brilliant people. With James Mangold rumored to join the DCU by directing Swamp Thing, I think we are in terrific hands.
Genius.
I like how James Gunn is focusing on the lesser known teams & characters, like he did with GOTG. It gives a refreshing vibe from the familiar yet overused like Batman or Superman.
Agreed
Agreed
It's what we need though, the whole DCEU for the last 10 years or so have literally just been the JL cast. Getting 3 movies of each character for the last 10 years is definitely gonna wear any fanbase out.
@@mulanomulaFlash has just had his 1st movie and Cyborg never got his. Plus they had something really good with the Justice Society and Black Adam.
But Gunn first film is literally going to be Superman again than another Batman so ...
@@Byronic19134 It's going to be superman but probably showing his lighthearted side which is what literally everyone wants rn instead of snyders edgy superman and the brave and the bold is most likely going to mainly focus on damian wayne and batman's relationship. (snyder's batman movie didn't even focus on batman) so it's still smth new.
cyborg was gonna get a movie until the company decided to let go of it probably due to not having a solid idea and not being financially smart at the time considering justice league had just failed.
Booster Gold is one of my favorite characters, so I’m glad to see him getting more attention.
@EwokCrowe booster gold is such an amazing character....grew up with his character and no he not just annoying
The man cocky but can go through serious events that can effect him
@ewokcrowe you clearly don't know shit about booster
@ewokcrowe definitely don't
@ewokcrowe 😂and right there proves you know nothing about the characters
@ewokcrowe funny cause he's only been in a few justice league episodes and since your not a fan of him I doubt you've read any of his older series
The slate looks alright, but I wish James Gunn went something similar to Super Frame's layout for the new universe.
Also, off topic, but I like the Batman: the Brave and the Bold animated show. That was where I was introduced to many DC characters I otherwise wouldn't have known about: Green Arrow, Blue Beetle (Ted Kord and Jayme Reyes), Aquaman, Red Tornado, Booster Gold, Starro, etc...
One of the best things to come out of this DC announcement that I don't see a lot of people talking about is the Elseworlds stuff. The main DCU will have interconnected movies that are made for a wider audience, but the Elseworlds label will have more stylized and prestige projects such as The Batman or Joker that are made for a more mature audience. I find this really fascinating and I feel like this might help DC compete with Marvel in the future. And who knows, maybe directors like Scorsese and Tarantino will be able to direct a DC movie in the future because they won't be shackled down to the restraints of a larger universe and they won't be forced to make sequels or spin-offs. I doubt directors like Scorsese or Tarantino would want to make comic book movies, but its still a nice thought.
I believe Tarantino wanted to make a Luke Cage movie back in the 90s and 2000s.
👍
@@dimitrescu182 I could see that..Tarantino movies have alot of style and style settings ...70s..80s..90s settings..even Django. Which I could see him turning Luke cage into a 70s stylish superhero film..with great music..come to think about it kill Bill movies can be consider borderline comic book based off the style of the shots and the style period of that series.
To be honest, I wasn't really on board with this new plan, mostly because the projects felt like James Gunn was grabbing everything he liked and not what fans wanted to see. However, James Gunn has proven that he's a capable director who can make great movies, so I still have hope.
Ngl the smartest thing warner brothers has done in years is put James Gunn in charge.
🤣
🤣 🤣 wow.
🧢
Yeah, they have done so many dumb things and then they go and do a genius thing, the Snyder d riders need to move the fuck on, I loved a lot of the snyderverse but it is over, enjoy the new, great, but different dc universe Gunn will bring
You mean the stupidest thing they’v done is put James Gunn in charge? When his resumè consists of immature comedies with generic stories and copy and paste from his GOTG films? Yeah… that’s laughable.
I’d honestly say the Russo Brothers would have been a better choice than a desperate attempt with someone whose movies only worked becuase of the foundation The first Avengers movie made with the comedy. At least the Russo Bro’s knows how to handle a complete roster of characters in one than just a group of rejects
Even though I’m actually concerned about this change, I’ll admit that it’s sounds exciting and let’s just hope that it becomes successful.
Nightwing and Damian fighting for Bruce's affection sounds fun
I just love how much this slate is full of variety. There's fantasy, horror, Sci fi, Game of Thrones like drama, comedy and even grounded stuff
I really like the world building of DC, so seeing him slating all these smaller characters while still keeping a lot of the important characters is cool and I’m really excited for it
Supergirl is the one I am most looking forward to honestly. Someone is finally doing Kara justice. I want to see angry traumatized grief-stricken Kara on the big screen for once.
I love seeing you so enthusiastic about the dc slate. Hopefully it pans out well
Bro Damian Wayne is going to be badass the contrast between the both of them will be amazing to watch.
Honestly, I am looking forward to this new slate, it looks James Gunn knows what he is doing. Also, what can be more awesome of having a Batman and Superman movie in the same year?!
I'm glad I'm not the only one who truly realizes that! With both a Superman and Batman movie in the same year, DC's gonna clean house.
Too bad they’re not gonna be in the same movie like we had with Snyder 😂🤡 all James Gunn has to do is convince Matt Reeves to be in the same universe. But nope! Lol
It’s cute seeing you Gunn bots hyping each other up for a a studio that’s about to be so bankrupt they might have to jump ship and cancel everything from the catastrophy they caused with the DCEU. All this is just a desperate attempt to gain attention and you’re the bait
@@YourLordnAuthority-1well BvS sucked badly and Legacy and BTBATB are first entry so that we have better base than what we had with hack Snyder to actually have both of them in a single movies and not messed it up like how Snyder did
@@ahteshamzahid6350
James Gunn is already messing it up by adding to many super characters into legacy just to satisfy his urge to keep repeating his rip off tone of GOTG and SS. If you think Snyder is bad just imagine a filmmaker who’s never made a man actual superhero movie before besides weird outcasted criminal outlaws who constantly act like children and talk and annoy each other into becoming one big happy family 💀 that’s not good story telling if it’s done repeatedly over and over again. And the fact creature commandos is his first entry screams the obvious that he can’t help himself, especially since that show’s going to be X rated… that’s the best time for Gunn to show his perverted side
James Gunn is balancing both underdogs and big names. That's cool
I was kinda sceptical on having Damian Wayne’s Robin this early but maybe it could be used efficiently
W CARTER, love your vids man, keep it up. I'm very excited to see the future of DC now and hoping for the best🤞🏾❗️
Daemon like one of those characters you really can’t appreciate til you see him grown and mature in the comics
In regards to Creature Commandos, it’s been confirmed that Frank Grillo will be playing Rick Flag, Sr. With how it’s been said that the actors who voice them in the cartoon will also be playing their live action counterparts, this must be their way of having a version of Rick Flag without bringing back Joel Kinnaman as his son since he died in The Suicide Squad.
Thanks so much for that but if info buddy. I heard that Grillo was going to be in the DCU but I didn't know how, until your comment.
That's interesting. I'm just really hoping that James Gunn can inject different tones in HIS work. So I'm hoping this show and Gunn's other self-made projects doesn't just feel like another Suicide Squad or Peacemaker.
@@EricCarter12 on top of that, they actually announced the entire main cast immediately after. Alan Tudyk, David Harbour, Indira Varma, Sean Gunn and Maria Bakalova will also be in it as part of the team. I’m already more excited for this than any MCU project after Guardians 3. I have faith that the tones will still be different enough. This is a very good cast with different acting ranges. Also Gunn has said that the Superman movie that he’s directing won’t have the same style as the Suicide Squad and Peacemaker so I still have faith.
so glad we are getting all this
Eric I love your content, never change
I understand why a lot of people don’t like Damian, but I think he’s underrated character, yes jn the beginning of his arc he starts off really bad, but that just gives him a lot of space for character development especially if executed correctly, I loved his love arc with Raven and his brotherly relationship with Nigthwing. I think he is in a very unique character position, he’s the son of Batman, the Dark Knight and the heir to a league of Assassins, despite Batman’s no kill rule, this could give a very interesting inner conflict on how he fights and who’s opinion he takes, and I feel like people never take that into consideration and only focus on his bratty phase one character stage. But I do think that they should introduce the older Robin’s first before introducing him, introducing Dick or Jason afterwards just doesn’t seem in the right order for me.
You explained this to me pretty well. Thank you you earned a subscriber
Your very welcome. And thanks! Welcome to the channel! I hope you enjoy my precious and future content!
People forget that James Gunn said the shows and movies he revealed are part of chapter 1 not the entire chapter 1 itself and swamp thing was the last movie he talked about not the last movie in the slate
I did think that Supergirl was too soon. But then again, she was mentioned and seen in the Superman: TAS and Justice League series til she got to be a member in Unlimited. But Marvel wouldn’t do something this smart and strategic, just imagine the shit if Disney bought DC too, we’d be depressed completely. And I’m glad you have words to say about this slate!! Thanks Eric!
Holy F**K BALLS Booster F**king Gold! My prayers have been answered, not by any god but by a man, James Gunn. The King in the DC!
And I want Jordan Patrick Smith to play him.
No idea why, but I can’t watch any Batman movie, comic or tv show, I always think of Kevin conoroy, it honestly hurts, Rest In Peace vengeance

Everything you just said in that god forsaken chapter book essay is the the reason I’m out of DC lol,
I’m not trying to watch a marvel cinematic rip off copy and paste when the the beginning of the DCEU had the BALLS to be something different, epic and unique from it’s counter part until you people critically made a studio nervous enough to screw everything up into a frankenstien mess. You know damn well we’re never going to see darksied again because his character is NOT funny. James Gunn has NEVER made a movie dark from start to finish with no jokes, and that’s exactly why every DC film all year long has been a box office disaster. Accept it.
If that’s what you like, good for you. But everybody doesn’t feel the same as you do
What about this slate is unique and different from marvel.
@@mutalemwananshiku4098 see you later to hold you on okay see there okay I am busy now okay.
Here is my thoughts on all of these DCU projects.
Creature Commandos- I have no knowledge of these characters, but the concept has me 100% on board.
Waller- I liked the character of Amanda Waller, but I don't think she is the kind of character to be the lead of a show.
Superman: Legacy- Gunn says he has a very personal relationship with Superman, so I'm hoping he can do him justice (unlike Snyder)
The Authority- I just rolled my eyes with this one. I'm just getting tired with the superhero deconstruction thing. Can't they just be heroes?
Lanterns- FINALLY we're getting something with Green Lantern, and it'll have Hal Jordan and John Stewart in a buddy cop detective story. My only reservations is it being set on Earth. I've always preferred Green Lantern in space.
Paradise Lost- I'm very excited to see this. A GOT prequel to Wonder Woman set on Themyscira.
The Brave and the Bold- very happy to see Robin return to the big screen, only it's Damian Wayne.
Booster Gold- I'm most excited for this. Gunn is perfect to create a Booster Gold show and he'll no doubt do a great job.
Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow- I do think it's a little too early to introduce Supergirl, but if it's based of a critically acclaimed series, I'll be interested in seeing it.
Swamp Thing- Superhero horror stories haven't gotten the best rep, but I do think it'd work best for Swampy.
I think the Authority will be about mainly setting the characters and their ideals up, so they can give the audience a bit of an idea as to why Superman's style of heroism is still relevant. Even more so if the Superman vs. The Authority rumors are true.
The authority are definitely just more like the boys in term of have a unique point of view that superheroes can be bunch of pure evil
I agree. Superman Legacy and Brave and the Bold have me hyped
This aged nicely...
I can't tell if that's sarcasm or not. 🤔
I really hope blue beetle does well so the fans can ask for a static shock movie
James Gunn said that he already plans to include characters like Static Shock at some point in the future. So we just need to support his Superman movie for that to happen.
The thing about Damien Wayne is that he’s either someone’s FAVORITE or LEAST FAVORITE Robin, with little in-between. I think he’s a fascinatingly flawed character who Gunn could do great! Gunn even referred to him as “a little son of a b!tch”, so he definitely gets this character.
I’m really excited!
What are your thoughts on the rumors of James Gunn bringing the guardians of the galaxy cast to his dc universe?
So long as he casts them in the right roles, I have no problem with it.

I've always been a Casual viewer of DC, Not because the stories and characters aren't interesting, I just grew up more familiar with Marvel's characters. This news has me really interested into looking more of DC's stories. I'm glad Gunn unlike Fiege is letting his workers have chances and show their True vision instead of pulling everything back into a safe space.

@@BrandontheBeldam2993 it was never meant to be a horror film, just a film with scary elements. The whole film was very raimi.

Superman, Lanterns, Swamp Thing, The Brave and the Bold, Supergirl Woman of Tomorrow.
Which ones you are looking the most forward too?
@@EricCarter12 In terms of tv shows, Lanterns by far. As a die hard fan of Green Lantern (Hal Jordan being my favorite DC character in particular), I am so happy to see Green Lantern just get ANY proper movie or show and knowing that Hal Jordan will not be sidelined makes it all the more satisfying. As for movies, I would have to say Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. I initially had no interest in the character and didn’t care if she got a movie or not. However, the original comic by Tom King is one of my favorite comic book stories ever and the concept of seeing it being adapted into live action is beyond exciting.
Some of what’s said I disagree with. I think this new slate from James Gunn is brave and different character driven and story driven this is what I’ve been waiting for. Can’t wait for the second half of chapter 1 is announced.

Outside of Disney, Gunn hasn't had any notable successful films. Gunn is a hack, the boycott of his DCU will be epic. Gunns TSS was DC's biggest flop in 10yrs prior to the flash, the physical sales of TSS are trash. Pissmaker is trash.
The only people who want to give Gunn a chance are Marvel Gunn Guzzlers.
Hyped but cautious

I just hope they will bring red hood in dceu he is their best character and maybe he would best friends with peacemaker since they have similar views on batman
It was season 10 of Smallville Booster Gold was in. Episode 18. Sorry. I'm a big fan of Smallville 🤣 but I'm loving this content and I'm so hyper excited to see James Gunn's new DCU. For those who don't know who Booster Gold is he's a time traveller/hero. He was actually a big part in the Death Of Superman comic, fighting Doomsday himself and naming him when Superman catches him mid air he says "It's like Doomsday is here" so Booster Gold was the guy who gave Doomsday his name
Eric Carter what are your thoughts on the possibility of the IT/IT Chapter Two/The Flash director Andy Muschietti directing The Brave and the Bold?
Impressive
First person to watch this, I agree 0:34
I agree with you eric carter
I don't think Superman: Legacy will have much James Gunn-y comedy. The reason TSS and Peacemaker had those kinds of lines is because it fit with the characters and what they would say. He'd know that Superman would never make a dick joke, at least I hope so. I also think they may have to make BATB a little bit brighter than Reeves's Batman in order to distinguish it.
What are your thought on James Gunn being announced as the official director for Superman: Legacy?
I'm highly skeptical about Gunn's plan, I'm still bitter regarding how he handled Cavill's firing, and the less we talk about Ezra Miller, the better. The fact that Tom King is one of the authors Gunn is taking inspiration from doesn't give me high hopes. The authority is the one that is making me the most nervous because I'm afraid they might butcher my boy midnighter, who is a badass who happens to be gay; I fear that they are going to focus more on his sexual orientation in CW fashion rather than his badass persona.
Also, there is the fact that they're using all actors for every live-action movie, tv series, videogames, and cartoon, which might backfire; yes, it will help with consistency, but the issue is that not all live-action actors work well in voice acting jobs and vice versa, with a few exceptions.
I really want this to work, but let's be honest, Gunn, DC, and Warner have all the stacks against them.
P.S: the HBO Watchmen series sucks
Cavil was never fired.
HBO Watchmen was excellent, despite the obnoxious LGBT propaganda, and only low T c\/cks disagree.
Tom king wrote superman uo in the sky which is great.
Do you think Vincent D’Onofrio would be a good Swamp Thing? He recently said that that’s the character he wants to play most in the DCU.
I honestly don't know. Swamp Thing is a character that you will only see as human for a short while and then never again.
So you need a big named actor that can act but also emote through the character design.
I personally would choose Dave Bautista and make it a more dramatic and emotional role for him.
He has a ton of untapped potential with regards to his dramatic acting ability and I think he has the stature, the voice and the acting chops to pull Swamp Thing off.
Could you rank your favorite superheroes
James Gunn has already confirmed that Superman Legacy will not try hard with comedy
I love that each movie is coming from comepletley different places and ideas.
Like we can all agree Iron man, Hulk, Thor, Cap were all tied to Shield etc. All these D.C projects come from vastly different places like The Authority, Superman, Creature comandos, waller, even the Lanters are all vastly different in theme and approach as where the MCU has different projects with different plot points but the theme is overall the same even tho Marvel does a great job as disguising the same theme in different ways
How do u know these dc peojects are connected in theme?
@@mutalemwananshiku4098 not in theme but in the same universe
@@mycharlie8811 u said this slate is different in theme but how do u know when the projects come out they wont have the same theme?

I hope this new DCU reboot pans out well, especially how poorly planned the DCEU was
I’m cautiously optimistic.
I'm very interested in Superman: Legacy. I had fallen asleep on Christopher Reeves' Superman-MAYBE I'll rewatch it to get a better understanding but that's a big maybe. However, I hate Man of Steel, and I've seen it twice.
I look forward to this new version. Praying it doesn’t suck!
I hope so too buddy.

Genius only if the strike and the lack of money at WB doesn't prevent the DCU from actually starting.
Gunns DCU is DOA, WBD doesn't deserve DC.

batman brave and bold will be outrageous and serious - a clever working of several elements that blindsides the audience.
He fired everyone except his friend basically
I think that him saying that he will keep Jason and Ezra is just PR talk.
Why I feel a lot of the boys vibe in this slate, including booster gold who's basically narcissist megalomaniac like homelander.
I watched the Suicide Squad at the beginning of this year for the first time, and Viola Davis (I hope I'm spelling her name right) is excellent as Warlah. I'm glad she's staying
Warlah?? It's Waller.
