  • All great things must, eventually, come to an end. That is the nature of time, and through it's long form exploration of the topic, that is also the nature of the Souls series.

Amazing video, but I can't help laughing when your characters show up and they look like muppets in full plate armor. Excellent creative direction, A+ dissection.

I actually never played the Souls games, but I get a lot out of it from videos like this. Good job!

I absolutely love this video and all the points you make in it, but I just noticed it only has 200 likes despite having been out 7 months, which is crazy. I imagine it'll blow up big soon, or at least I hope it does

This was a great look at the series! I would say it's different from my own takeaways, but not an incorrect analysis by any stretch. You're eloquent and thorough by all accounts. Bravo!

This is a great video! I have been consuming a lot of souls content recently and am playing through the games for the first time.
I have watched a LOT of videos but your explanation for an emphasis on time makes so much sense of the main story that a lot of lore conjecture gets hung up on or confuses the main thematic arc.
So thank you. I can’t recommend this enough, especially as a primer to newbie who doesn’t mind spoilers.

Actually, you'd be surprised at the amount of people who go 3, 1, 2. I've actually seen a lot of people do that compared to 1, 2, 3.
I think it's because 3 is the newest and most outwardly appealing one, then they go to 1 for the classic experience and because it's iconic, then to 2 because they hear it's the worst and people talk about it the least.

I believe that. I started with 2 because it was the newest at the time for me then I played the 1st for that iconic experience and then 3 because I fell in love with the series

I played 2 first because 3 didn't exits at the time, then played 3 after the dlc came out and highkey feel like 1 is the worst to play. It's just so fucking slow to walk around in that world, and then the attacks are slow and the ideal build is the fatman who can tank hits but still midroll. Dark souls 1 is an outlier in the series, even demons souls is faster and less clunky and that was made first.

@@MemeLordCthulhu I feel like I could have easily written that paragraph myself lol. My order went 2-3-1, and whenever I play 1 I feel like im moving in sludge constantly

Exactly this is awful that such a beautiful video is hidden under the Ashes and debris of meaningless content. Only for this beautiful diamond gem to be here.

The Lords of Cinder are the ones that Successfully Linked the Flame and was brought back to do it again when the Prince refused.
The Unkindled tried to link the Flame but could not, was thrown into the cemetary of Ash and brought back as option 3/last option.
The Bell Tolls and the dead rises from their graves.

This is why I've never linked the fire. I've either taken the flame for myself in an attempt to build something new for those few hollows still sane enough to follow me or I've simply let the flame fade. I like letting the fire fade the best, as even becoming lord of hollows doesn't mean the world won't end. You'll just become another Gwyn. Letting the fire fade at least allows the world to heal, with the new flame the Fire Keeper speaks of giving hope that the mistakes of the past won't repeat themselves. But even then there's no guarantee that a new flame won't bring the same cycle back.

Yes, the fire fades but our painting lady will make us a new world, a golden world. A place where the fans and noobs will once again traverse and die...

Ya know, the video is great.
I feel inspired. I played the games in the exact same order, during 2020 no less. Thanks. Don't wanna elaborate too much now. Good Luck 🤞
