@@retrohandhelds I have one, bought back in 2009. Was amazing for the time… one developer even managed to make a highly optimised PSX emulator (PCSX ReARMed) which runs quite a lot of the library. The OLED display on mine has quite a few dead pixels, unfortunately, but this was a great little device back when these kind of emulation handhelds were not so commonplace.
Fantastic review bro great job! (And F-Zero GX is blurred, fvck off Nintendo I own the game legally, can you send some footage please? Does it run at solid 60 at native res?)
Can’t believe they still have those loud clicky face buttons. That’s the main reason I don’t play my 2S. Every other manufacturer seems to have solved it, but Retroid seem oblivious to the issue. Sticking to the dome and membrane combo is odd too. Felt like a manufacturing compromise on earlier models to use the parts they had, but now it feels like a choice. And putting huge case borders around a “bazeless” screen… just weird decisions all around
Honestly the bezels are a dealbreaker for me. We live in a bezeless world and as awesome that this thing is its more controller and less screen i will stick to my rp4
same question i preordered the pocket micro and i just watched russ video from retrogamecorps about it. it seem to be weaker on the ps/gc emulation part he describes it as bonus systems in his review.. so i just want to have a small device to play some racing and the sims bustin out on the go so i think i cancel my preorder on go with the mini now
Burnout Revenge did not have framerate crippling on crashes I am happy to report, on NetherSX2 latest alpha, you can watch a bit more extended and raw footage of me playing it on our RP Mini livestream (which used AetherSX2 latest, the ad version unfortunately).
I read on twitter that there just isn't really a 4:3 4'' oled display on the market. really unfortunate since it's what everyone wants. I really don't want the wider device with the 5
At this point they really should have pushed up to a 4 inch screen. This was made to play gamecube and ps2, but that screen size seems to fight against that intention. I know the difference between a 3.7 and 4 inch isn't huge but when you're playing 3d games made for a big screen I feel like that 0.3 inches makes a really noticeable difference. I'm glad they finally ditched the 3.5 inch screen though, hopefully thats a sign that were moving in the right direction on these higher performance handhelds. Thanks for working hard to get this out so quickly
I wanted to buy this so badly, but unfortunately that screen to console ratio + all glass front + 3.7” screen is a killer for me. Going to stick to the Rg405M and steamdeck until another competitor appears
It's too bad you didn't talk about the Retroid launcher (they said they had revised it) or about Batocera support (again, Retroid said it would be available on it)
I hope to see how Zelda twilight princess runs on the rp5 mini. I saw a chinese video, that shows this game for a couple seconds and it had a massive slow down, before he cut to the next game. Maybe he used the wrong settings?
okay i think i cancelling my preorder for the ayaneo pocket micro and get this one instead. I think the gc/ps2 performane is much better. I thought the pocket micro would be a bit more powerful

Hm, can I record gameplay on this device and save it on SD card?
Can’t wait to get my orange
Do you have a video of the back shell swap? Thanks for the video
For sure! I need to order one of the back shells to try it out.
Honestly the bezels are a dealbreaker for me. We live in a bezeless world and as awesome that this thing is its more controller and less screen i will stick to my rp4
Million dollar question: RP mini or Ayneo Pocket Micro?
same question i preordered the pocket micro and i just watched russ video from retrogamecorps about it. it seem to be weaker on the ps/gc emulation part he describes it as bonus systems in his review.. so i just want to have a small device to play some racing and the sims bustin out on the go so i think i cancel my preorder on go with the mini now
Cost too much for RP2S replacement, max I pay is $150 probably going to wait for on sale
Why 3.7 if it can be 4 inch?
I Guess they want to give US a reason to upgrade every year.
@@anbernicguy Is there a 4" 4:3 OLED panel available? Maybe 3.7" was all they could source?
Only 1 minus for me,the screen is not 4 inch.so i pre order retroid pocket 5.not mini.
the retroid pocket 5 also costs only 20 dollars more
When you wreck in burnout Revenge, does the framerate cripple? I can't get it to run right on any android device. That and burnout 3.
Burnout Revenge did not have framerate crippling on crashes I am happy to report, on NetherSX2 latest alpha, you can watch a bit more extended and raw footage of me playing it on our RP Mini livestream (which used AetherSX2 latest, the ad version unfortunately).
Is this handheld smaller than a samsung s23?
The difference is more than a square inch, what is a lot, when we are talking about these tiny screens.
Ayaneo Pocket DMG doesn't have 8gen3, it's G3x Gen2.
Wish they would make these with 6 face buttons. Arcade and Sega emulation would benefit heavily from 6 face buttons.
And N64
Exactly!
Already have a high end android handheld, so I used the money for 3 cheaper handhelds. Might try to get the 4pro at a discount
This definitely isn't high end. Mid range
I wanted to buy this so badly, but unfortunately that screen to console ratio + all glass front + 3.7” screen is a killer for me. Going to stick to the Rg405M and steamdeck until another competitor appears
The RP5 should be the perfect companion to my Ally. Anything more expensive than the RP5 is just too much for an Android device.
Would be cool if they made it vertcal with some dmg vibes.
Not really RP's jam though.
I’m struggling with picking this or the 5
I would opt for the 5 for the size of the screen over the Mini, if I were to choose one at this point.
OLED is nice but you're better off with the cheapest SteamDeck model. The 7" screen is perfect size. 4" is way too small
The back looks like a mini version of the Odin 2
The screen is too small for GC, PS2 and DC.
Its too small for anything that isnt tetris or pacman
@@creaturecore13 well said!
Bro had to blur out the F-Zero GX footage. 😒
Yeah.. Nintendo always lurking these days
@@retrohandheldsRuss is feeling their breath on the back of his next atm too😮
@retrohandhelds you guys should just ban showing any Nintendo games just to be on the safe side
Does anyone know if the new retroid launcher will be available on the 2s and 4pro? Or if its exclusive to the mini and 5?
There was a Superman arcade best em up that had Cpt Marvel as player 2 that I remember being good. May be the only one but still
It's too bad you didn't talk about the Retroid launcher (they said they had revised it) or about Batocera support (again, Retroid said it would be available on it)
Ah I did during the outro, and also during the livestream last night. The Launcher isn't ready yet, and Batocera is coming in October.
Performance isn't where I thought it would be, not even native res gamecube at full 60fps...ugh
I hope to see how Zelda twilight princess runs on the rp5 mini. I saw a chinese video, that shows this game for a couple seconds and it had a massive slow down, before he cut to the next game. Maybe he used the wrong settings?
How does switch games play ?
okay i think i cancelling my preorder for the ayaneo pocket micro and get this one instead. I think the gc/ps2 performane is much better. I thought the pocket micro would be a bit more powerful
Just remember there are reasons why they cannot just make the screen size everybody wants because they just getting wants available in the market, they dont have the budget to make their own screens atm. I just hope the maximize or proportion the face of the device
The glass front is so shiny and the small screen.... If I can get it super cheap why not.
I want a 26inch screen to replace my CRT.
Whoop whoop!
Can’t appreciate if it is Playstation’s standard gray or Nintendo’s ash gray… 😅
Ah good call, it is a more blue-ish gray? I guess Ash? I believe it's supposed to be color matched to a PAL SNES.
@@retrohandheldsis it a similar gray to the RP4pro?
@@rorivers180 I don't have one on me right now, but i've owned that version in the past, and I believe it is the same:
