My favorite aspect of this version of the bag is the increased capacity. It'd be great to be able to consolidate an every day carry and a minimal travel bag. I have a CPL24 (v1) and it's just always been a bit too small to be a versatile daily carry (i.e. stopping at the grocery store when walking or biking home from work) or for use as a travel bag for multi-day trips. Of course, I love that you can take these bags hiking too!
Great review, been waiting for this video for weeks! The top quick-access pocket is such an essential feature of any edc bag, it’s hard to imagine the original shipped without it.
Gotta say I think the design aesthetic is the best thing about evergoods bags. I like that it’s 28l now and look forward to trying it! Great review as always!
I love how Evergoods listened to the community and their feedback for ways to improve this second version!
My favorite thing about this pack are how the improvements and iterations toward this bag have been made in favor of more organization but still being very functional. I really like how the extra curved space toward the back (at the top of the shoulder straps) serves a dual purpose. Firstly, that extra space can curve and contour toward the shape of your shoulders which helps with a snug and more comfortable fit for your shoulders.
Second, that extra space toward the top of the bag was also used to create a top quick-access pocket, which most people find extremely useful. It was missing from V1 so I'm very happy to see that they've implemented another pocket that can be accessed easily.
Going back to the organization, the front vertical pocket in V1 (which was basically just a big dump pocket and things would just fall to the bottom of the bag, which made that front pocket sort of useless because you would have to fumble around to look for a specific item. Now, I love that they have added some clever organization with the internal sideways pockets including a slip pocket, pen pocket and a zippered pocket for smaller items that you want more secure. I am glad that they kept the vertical pocket AND added sideways organization because I find myself in many instances where I can easily swing the bag around my arm (without actually having to take the bag off) and have quick access to the front vertical pocket (like how you showed it in 6:27 to 6:32).
Overall their improvements to the organization have me convinced that this may be one of the most improved EDC bags out there!
I like that they added a quick access pocket similar to the chz22. Definitely getting this bag. I just have to convince my wife that I “need”another backpack
Favorite thing about the bag - love the stealthy look and full clamshell style opening!
Great review. For me, the best thing about all of evergoods products is the overall aesthetic. I love their design approach.
Favorite thing is probably the organization possibilities. I love how there are many pockets and that there is a quick access pocket. Since I am a student and work from home, I carry my laptop around a lot too, so the protection the laptop slot provides is great.
My favorite thing is the big space for organization pouches and the clam shell!! Great video!
What I love about this bag is the asthetic look and how universaltile it is. For instance, I could hiking, then later go to work and then hop on a plane and travel. It's a nice size as well. Smaller bags are easier to carry than some major travel backpacks that you literally pack your life into. I like those bags as well but I think this is a decent size. Pretty neat!
Favorite thing about this has got to be the harness system. Such a comfortable carry!
My favourite part of this bag is the overall composition of it. Simple, sleek and stylish.
I really like the updated laptop sleeve. The extra space is perfect for other tech items like chargers. The extra space in the main compartment is a plus
The overall design aesthetic and silhouette is perfect for urban environments! Alongside the great internal organisation options, it seems like a perfect bag for EDC and minimal traveling!
I love that the new version has organisation in the front pocket and a quick access top pocket.
Great review! I love the clam shell design and the additional organization features in the main compartment. It seems like you can fit quite a lot in this bag.
CONGRATULATIONS! You are the winner of the Evergoods CPL28! Please email me at travelingsalseros@gmail.com so I can get the bag sent over! =)
@@dannypacks OMG!! This is awesome! I just sent you an email. :D
I love the quick access pocket at the top! Great use of space vs the version 1!
love the aesthetic...super minimal and low key. 💪🏻
I like the organizational layout of the bag. It’s very versatile and accommodating to different packing styles
My favorite thing is the laptop compartment. Good review, thanks!
Very nice review! I jusr wish those bags will be available in the Philippines. Really cool review as always, keep it coming. Thank you!
I like the organization and the clam shell opening.
I think the clamshell opening is what stands out for me with this bag. That feature allows the bag great flexibility not just for packing a daily carry but makes it feasible for one bag travel.
My fave thing is is honestly the way the access is designed. As someone who loves to use messengers, the design of primarily side access would make me feel right at home
My favorite feature about the bag is the quick access pocket. Probably the most used pocket in any bag for me. The aesthetics are also one of the best in the market.
The organization, minimal aesthetic and versatility
The overall aesthetics and build quality of this bag are my favorite things
Love the look of the bag
My favorite thing about the bag is the organization. I feel like it has just the right amount of pockets.
The harness is my favorite part of this bag!
My favorite thing about the Evergoods packs is the unique carry handle. I have found that I really miss that on other backpacks.
My favorite parts of this bag are the organization now in the front zipper section, the laptop compartment, and side handle. Not to mention the comfortable strap system.
Left hand access for southpaws. Love that they added a bit more organization.
Favorite part is all the organization.
I really like the quick access pocket which is something every backpack should have I feel. My current backpck doesn't have one which is quite annoying.
My favorite thing about this bag is newly added quick access pocket on the top of the bag.
One thing i like about the bag is the 28L capacity but the sleek look.
I was looking rally hard at the CPL24 V1 and now with the second version i was hoping to buy the first one cheaper but the new quick access pocket up top is just perfect and i cant miss it hahaha.
*really
Nice review.
Just bought one to replace my go ruck sd25.
Thank you for watching and I hope you enjoy using the bag a lot!:)
Favorite thing about the bag has to be the sleek and minimal/stealthy aesthetic.
deffo seems like a worthy upgrade from the CPL24 V1. Additional volume, better organisation etc.
Favorite thing definitely has to be the new quick access pocket at the top and that they updated the laptop compartment to be suspended.
My favorite is the minimal aesthetic
Hello traveling Salseros,
your reviews are great, very detailed, really well done keep it up.
I would like to buy an EDC but I have a big confusion about these models Able Carry Max, Evergoods Civic Panel Loader (CPL28) V2, Aer Travel Pack 2 Small, they are all great and each have unique features, they have strengths and weaknesses, some are simpler in organization and in the way you store your accessories, even the materials these backpacks are made of are different even if they are all very resistant.
A video comparison would be wonderful to highlight the differences between them, various everyday use cases, a suggestion on some accessories to integrate with them such as the Evergoods Civic Access Pouch 2 L or similar.
I go a long way and having a very comfortable backpack is important, arriving at the office with a wet back is not beautiful and professional, I think this feature is important.
I await your review with curiosity, if it were not possible I would very much like to know how to choose the right backpack for my needs, the alternative would be to buy all 3 backpacks but they cost too much to do the experiment that's why I need the your help ... come on please help me i think many would like this comparison :)
The wait is over
Great video! Does it wear smaller when packed out for daily carry vs travel? I love that the pockets on the inside of the front flap have their own dimension but it makes the bag stick out quite a bit when fully packed out. Just wondering if it slims down significantly for EDC despite not having compression straps (p.s. I love when you show how how the bag wears for both EDC and travel).
Thank you for watching and for the positive feedback! I’m glad the video was helpful! Unfortunately without the compression straps it doesn’t really slim down on its own too much when using for edc. Some compression would definitely be a cool addition for a future version tho!:)
Great review. What's your portable standing desk?
Thank you for watching and for the positive feedback! That is the Levit8 Folding Standing Desk:)
You might as well get the CHZ 26. The pre-order price of the 26 is cheaper then the Chz 22. I love the organization of the Cpl V2
Thank you for watching and that’s a great point! The price point on the chz is really awesome. Tough choice between that and the clamshell style tho! Haha
Great review!! I’m torn between the Evergoods cpl 28 and the goruck/huckberry collab gr1 26 slick 500d. Not much need for the organizational pockets, just a full on daily carry, travel, hiking, and maybe some biking. Any helpful info appreciated. Thx!
Thank you for watching and I’m glad the video was helpful! Tough choice between those two for sure! I haven’t had a chance to test out the grl slick so I will offer my thoughts based on the GR1 and GR2 that I have been using for a while. As far as build quality the GR1 still feels more rugged than the CPL although both really feel like they can take a beating. Aesthetically I would lean towards the cpl as I feel like the more rounded shape keeps it looking sleeker even if it is a slightly larger bag (I really love the tactical look of the regular GR1 so I kay be a bit biased against the slick haha). As far as capacity, even tho the 26L GR1 can hold quite a bit I feel like the cpl will give a little more space and even if you don’t plan to use the additional pockets it has it’s still nice to have them and know they have dedicated volume to still be useful if needed. The last factor is the comfort, I really like how the cpl straps feel right out of the box and their overall design works really well. With that being said after the GR1 straps break in they feel great and they will be able to handle heavier weight better IMO since they are wider and thicker. If I had to pick between these two specifically I would probably lean a bit more towards the CPL but both will really be great for the use cases you mentioned. Hope that helps a bit and please let me know if there are any additional questions I can help answer about the bags!:)
Nice review. Are the straps more comfortable than the GR1?
Thank you for watching and good question! Out of the box id say they are since they feel a lot more broken in and the curve on the shoulder feels pretty nice. With that being said after the GR1 straps are broken in it’s a tougher choice and since the GR1 straps are a little wider I might lean towards them slightly especially if you have to carry heavier loads regularly or you plan on doing any rucking. Hope that helps a bit and please let me know if there are any additional questions I can help answer about the bags!:)
How does this compare to the Civic Travel Bag 26L? Which one is better for traveling and why? So confused
My favorite things about the bag are the build quality and the organization except I wish there was a water bottle pocket.
yea, it's disappointing that they went without the water bottle holder. Unfortunately this bag is a pass for me because of that reason, maybe version 3 will have a water bottle holder.
Does the black fabric lose color after some time? I've seen some older goruck gr1 models look less black over time and I wanted ask if you've noticed that with the v1 and if you the same would happen with the v2?
I love the 24l v2 bag,, because it fixed all my issues with the v1 but I might wait for the grey version because I think that might age better than the black.
Thank you for watching and good question! I haven’t noticed that yet, but I imagine that will depend a good amount on how rough the bag is used and how much it is washed. For Goruck bags for example, if people use them for the Goruck challenges and they have to wash the bag often that will likely leas to fading. Hope that helps a bit and please let me know if there are any additional questions I can help answer about the bag!:)
I want to use for EDC and potential carryon for short trips (but primarily for EDC).
Something unique to where I work… I have to put my bag through a metal detector like the airport, so I prefer backpacks.
I’m 5’8”. Do you think the 28l just be way too big on my frame?
Thank you for watching! I think it will really depend on preference, for me the 28l felt a little too big / tall to use everyday but I have seen others of a similar height who enjoy the extra space and don’t mind the look
At 5'10 do you think the CPL24 is a wiser choice over the cpl28 for everyday use/carry? I have the original CPL24 and while I find it a comfortable size to carry, I sometimes wish it was a little larger to give me more options when I might need to carry just a little more than I usually would. Having no access to a cpl28 I'm struggling to determine just how much larger it would feel in an EDC role and if it is worth it or not.
Thank you for watching! For me the CPL24 is still a better size for edc imo, the 28 offers a good deal more space and even tho it doesn’t look quite as big given all the stuff I was able to fit and it works great as a minimal travel bag, it’s just a bit taller than my ideal everyday bag. Hope that helps a bit and please let me know if there are any additional questions I can help answer!:)
@@dannypacks I do have another question actually. If you had to choose between the TAD Axiom 24 and the CPL24 v2, which would you pick and why?
That’s a tough choice haha Although I really like both and the axiom is a little more comfortable overall and it offers more organizational options and better weather resistance, I would probably lean towards the cpl24 V2 a little bit as it is less expensive, I think the aesthetic will blend in a little better into more environments and the simpler organizational layout is more my style.
@@dannypacks Thanks. I ordered the CPL24 v2. The Axiom 24 really drew me in with its appearance but after some review I found some things that were disappointing and even concerning. The Axiom seems to have some quality issues and the main compartment of the pack seems easily eaten up by using pretty much any of the other pockets. The front organization pockets don't seem overly useful to me either.
The CPL24 however is high quality and very well thought out. It just seems to offer more flexibility while at the same time coming across as more simple.. pretty cool actually. It also pleases me with how it looks. The v2 seems to have solved all of my gripes with the v1.. What's not to like?
I didn't go for the CPL28 because from everything I gather it seems a great deal larger and likely won't carry the same..I'm using it for EDC. I wish they made it 26L like the civic half zip. That might be the sweet spot.
I also ordered their new CAP 2L pouch.
I guess I'm an evergoods guy after all. Thanks again for the help.
@@colinmsmall how do you like the cpl24?? I just ordered one and want to put it vs GR1 21 and 26 liters. Does the cpl24 offer some space for light travel when not using for normal edc?
How the volume compare to GR2 26l? Which one do you prefer and which holds more?
Thank you for watching and tough choice! Overall I prefer the size of the GR2 26 as it works a little better for daily carry for my height imo. With that being said the 28l CPL offers a surprising amount of space without feeling too big and I feel like it can hold a little more overall than the GR2
In my quest to find a carry-on travel backpack for a short torso, do you think this would work/be too big? I have the 24 V2 and the Civic Half Zip which is too tight for travel (great for EDC) for a 3 to 4-day trip. I'm female, 5'6," 18.5"-19" long is my max. Maybe I could go 20" because the bag rides high?...Not a heck of a lot out there. I know the MPL 30 V2 is too big (says Evergoods). Evergoods is so my aesthetic but I am also a big Tom Bihn user. GoRuck 21L, I worry will be too small ) want the Goruck 2, 26L but they're sold out...maybe if I have to go bigger (20"), Bellroy? Tortuga Outbreaker 35L (I worry I'll have trouble on planes). I know I keep asking you the same questions over and over again. Arggghh. Great review, as usual!
Thank you for watching and definitely some tough choices there! Would the cpl28 be too similar / too big compared to the cpl24? The chz26 might be an interesting option as well if you want to keep the evergoods aesthetic. The outbreaker 35 seems like it might be slightly big for what you’re looking for, the outbreaker laptop backpack might be a little closer. The bellroy transit 28 is definitely a good option to take a look at, maybe the heimplanet transit 28 as well?
@@dannypacks did you see the new bag Evergoods is releasing on Friday? I bet it will be too big for me. It’s a 35L bag. Looks awesome. Two years to develop. They just put a video up online….and you read my mind…sad part, Heim and Bellroy bags are too long at 20.” Green room? I thought for sure you’d say Goruck2, 26L as it’s only 18” long. P.S. are you a fan of the slick or prefer the standard version?
What is the model name of the large double sided compression bag? It seems so useful for travelling!
Thank you for watching! That packing cube is from Arcido and I will make sure I include a link in the description of the video if you want to check it out!:)
@@dannypacks Please do!
I have one on the way. It appears to be the next generation of the GR1. I look forward to comparing them.
Thank you for watching and I hope you enjoy using the bag a lot! Definitely a good one to compare with the GR1!:)
How did you end up liking it compared to GR1? I am between the cpl 24 and GR1 21 or 26L
@@jqlarson sold it. The GR1 26L is great because it is basic.
@@readyme thinking I’ll like the GR1 over it at well
