The château and gardens are looking beautiful . I agree with you - no volunteers , no guests - it’s your home.
For those who have not planned events for the public, it is a massive amount of work, often times, requiring months of planning. If you are not up to it, then don't do it. You also cannot do it alone.
In Aug/2022 I did a yard sale as part of dealing with an estate as Executor (a house on an island, so a lot of passing tourists), and ye gods, you speak the truth. I wish I'd had at least an extra month to prepare, and the hours were insane, up at 4am, midnight to bed if I was lucky, little food. Nine lucrative days, but close to burnout by the end of it, cut short by pending bad weather, which was perhaps fortuitous. Very rewarding of course, but yeah a lot of work doing it on one's own. With hindsight it really needed 2 or 3 people to do it properly, as otherwise the setup and tear down times each day were very long. It was an extraordinary experience, but quite exhausting.
You have the bar now. It not necessary to have events at your place unless you want to. You don't have to do this vlog unless you want to as well. I love watching and appreciate the effort that goes into these vlogs/channels. I do look forward to seeing the progress you make on fixing this chateau up.

Sometimes you need a pause in life. I remember being pregnant and could do all the things I use to volunteer for. Someone said, "There is a season in life for things and right now you are looking after yourself". That really brought comfort to me. Different seasons come and go. Hang it there.

Just a tip on grooming ur dog ...if u don't mind...we have a husky and i brush him outside and let the fur blow in the wind...birds do pick it up for their nests..talk about recycling

Having ‘Invite Only’ events at your chateau sounds so much fun,,,and so much less stress and set up.
Your bar events can fill the spot if locals are asking about the music or beer events.
Its never ending brushing a dog especially when they don't like being brushed ❤
I have 4 longhaired cats who’s now shedding their massive undercoat .
I’m brushing and shaving, but the amount of shedding and hair flying around and gathering in the house is astounding !! I have a special air cleanser with pet hair collector and carbon filter .
It’s full every week now😮
This year has been worse than anyone I can remember … I’ve had cats for 30 years and way more than I have now when I were fostering 12 cats, a dog and a bunny😂
I think I need to take the guys and gals to the vet and give the a vitamin B shot to get back some control of their fur..

Phil, the chateau is your personal and private home, you are not obligated to open it to the public at large. Take the year off and then see how you feel about it. At a later date, you might consider letting the grounds for a charity event, providing that the people hosting the event tend to all of the gorey details.

I had a Big German Shepherd who absolutely despised brushing.
I brushed him outside, & the second I started to grab the piles of hair off the comb, the bird's who were swooping around, would swoop in and grab it in the air!
They absolutely love it for their nests.

That is a great decision to just work on your home! It seemed that the public events were too much work for you and a small amount of help. I would think the town would be happy to come to the pub for music on the weekends! Please try and enjoy your summer, not having to think about what everyone else wants! Some other Chateaus have afield in or near their town, where the town holds the town festival. They only supply the field.... not the whole thing! A massive amount of work for you! I hope that you have a good week.

The conversation with Lightening was hilarious. Oh yes the double coats shed loads in the spring, but really quite a bit all year round. Your decision about your home - I completely agree with you. Right now I'm looking for a small place here in the US since my landlord is selling. Being a private person is absolutely valid. I can't imagine what public events, tours and people traipsing about the place would do to your peace of mind. I know what it would do to mine. We'll see you here. You get to curate what you share.

As an experienced hotelier, where we lived on site for many years, I fully understand what you feel. Your point about stopping doing something and not missing it is very very valid. When we closed the doors on our last property just over a year ago, I was panicked and couldn't imagine doing anything else after 8 years and 3 hotels in our portfolio. BUT boy was I wrong, how wonderful it is not to have the worries of wages, customers, suppliers, reviews, locals, brides, how will i have time to celebrate our anniversary or a birthday. Do what's right for you and Angelina!

Would he allow you to vacuum him or the reverse and blow dry his coat to get the hair out like groomers do. I’m sure the birds in your neighbourhood would love his fur for their nests. Watching this 3 weeks after you posted it. I live in California. Weather you have a a public event in your home ever doesn't matter to me at all. I just am amazed that you live ib a chateau.
We ran horse trial 3-day events for a number of years which included International Events all of which were open to the public in Canada. The rules, regulations and insurance regarding liability when the public are involved weren’t worth it and didn’t offset the cost. Some Events in England are cancelling (sometimes weather related). Gatcombe Park is no longer hosting Events. Please don’t concern yourself. Have fun and keep it private!

Well said - if you stop doing it and don't miss it then perhaps it's not needed. It's always sad to give away things that take our time and have brought happiness in the past, but doing so opens up time for new happiness in the future.

My first reaction was sadness but then I thought about the event I am organising, which is only two months away, and I realised you have made the right decision. It is a lot of work to run an event open to the public. You also have the pub to run now as well as wanting to get more work done on the chateau. Much better to decide early on not to do it than end up with a half done job and no one happy, or more likely you burnt out to meet your own expectations.
Philip, to be quiet frank, I enjoy your single vlogs better than the early ones. I know it hasn't been easy, but you are doing wonderful work, and it shows in the house and grounds. 👍👍❤️

Huskies blow their coat. No amount of brushing will keep them from blowing their coat in spring time. Using your fingers can often make the job go faster and the dogs usually enjoy it more. :D

Nothing sad about it. Paying attention to what feels right for you is the most sensible thing to do. If you ever feel some enthusiasm for revisiting the creation of some kind of event…. you can go for it, but you don’t have to. It’s your home to do with as you want. It’s nice of you to share some of what you do with us. I think there are many people like me who enjoy watching your videos, alongside The Pethericks, Sean’s World and The Moons etc. They are like a soothing antidote to the crazy world we are living in. Much appreciated.
