I like how that one orc is constantly rubbing his hands together like a greedy corporate entity that just shoe-horned microtransactions into a long awaited, hyped up, video game sequel, and is doing everything in his power to let you know he's about to take you to town. At your expense. Oh wait, that might actually be Warner Bros.
I'm just going to say one word about that orc it's a Jew no I'm not antisemitic, I'm saying that orc is exactly how the anitsemites portray jews... greed stereotype included... and if we really want to boycott this game, making a fuss over that "racist depiction" can seriously work
To anybody who crapped out the instant Drakan R said the words "It's a Jew" please keep reading the comment, and also read the one below it, and click on the link. The commenters ARE NOT being anti-semitic, and are in fact making an excellent point. Those were, however, three fucking words, Drakan, not one. Tool.
Warner Bros didn't think the first game would be a success and bribed people to say positive things about the great game. This time they expected it to be a success so they put in a bunch of bullshit that ruined it. Pretty sure the orc is someone at Monolith venting their anger at this.
I almost want to believe the developers did it on purpose as a cheeky satire of what they were required to do, and it went over Warner Bros' heads. Probably because they saw an ugly warty monster rubbing it's hands together greedily and were too used to seeing them in shareholder meetings to give it a second thought.
The only way it could have been even better is if Smaug himself was sitting on his pile of plundered treasure, offering you all the loot crates and "protection" from your captured fortresses randomly being burned down, in exchange for receiving your hard-earned money. At least then it would have come full circle with Warner Bros. being open and honest with how they are acting exactly like the main villain from J.R.R. Tolkien's very first book.
"So, you were smart enough to buy our great, story-driven, action-packed, parkour-'em-up, stealthy, whatever it is extravaganza game! Nice job; now, how much would you pay to SKIP most of it?" - Warner Bros.
@Hazukichan X "So, you were smart enough to buy our great, story-driven, action-packed, parkour-'em-up, stealthy, whatever it is extravaganza game! Nice job; now, how much would you pay to replace all of this with having to wait for constant server synchronization and looking at unskippable cutscene every time you want to buy and place an orc in the open world, only for you to then still have to play the game to level up the orcs that you just got from the loot boxes, and only for them to still have worse stats than those found normally in the open world" - Monolith. But as always, it's much easier to simplify things and jump on bandwagons rather than objectively analyze something.
To all the people who kept giving shit to Jim for him complaining about the lootboxes in Overwatch, this is what happens when you defend shitty practices in the game industry and allow it to perpetuate and grow.
c r a b ikr and +1 sub for his brutal honesty and comedic "fuck you's" to these shitty companies shitting on the gaming industry and wallet-raping the consumer!
Am I the only one who thinks it's unintentionally apropos for the fee-to-pay market screen in SoM2 to have a weaselly figure rubbing his hands together greedily?
You feel that Monolith did this on purpose as a manifestation of WB, but for some reason a lot of people aren't catching that, and will STILL buy the game AND MTs.
Warco So I like to show off my vocabulary. Does that invalidate my statement about the unintended implications of a greedy-looking figure being on the fee-to-pay screen?
"It's the same whether you get an ork in-game or via the market" Yes, that's why it always confused me that Frodo chose to carry the ring to Mordor instead of just paying enough microtransactions to get Sauron to be a follower. Seriously though, I'm really excited about buying ork followers with real money, who then join me because of the awesome in-universe story-driven explanation of... reasons.
"Yes, that's why it always confused me that Frodo chose to carry the ring to Mordor instead of just paying enough microtransactions to get Sauron to be a follower." You made my day, Sir!
Remember when we had to work for unlockables? Putting hours of work in a game just to get that cool costume or that awesome item? Yeah. Me too. I miss it.
Dark-angelguiome could you stfu till the game comes out u r judging yet I bet you have never played it and I'd rather be a "naive child" than a thirty year old virgin
wtf? first of all how would i play the game in the first place, if you are refering to the first game then yes i played it, and i love that game. And oh boy here we go again with those unoriginal insults... you really are naive (do you even know what that means?) ... its because people like you, that accept micro transactions, that developers keep adding them to our favorite games and stop barking ok? i dont have the patience to deal with people who accept shady stuff. And who said i was judging the game? I simply find very very stupid adding micro transactions to a SINGLE PLAYER game just to make a quick buck, but still i bet the game will be great.
Honestly whatever government branch looks at gambling should have a good long look at the "Lootbox" system of Microtransactions, because I feel a very good case can be made for it being on the same level as general gambling games, and therefore would be illegal to put in games sold to minors
Carbon Copy Actually, in the US, the lowest age restriction for gambling is 18 and in most states, it's 21. This would force games with such mechanics to be placed into ESRB's Adults Only category and, to my knowledge, no retailer will stock an AO rated game.
While PEGI ratings have no impact on stocking or selling a game, you could probably add the "gambling" label to games with microtransactions and lootboxes.
In some European countries gambling is not only strictly regulated but also monopolized. So far only China has done something about loot crate gambling. I hope that other countries will follow, soon, or else we're going to get yet another horrible business model become part of the norm.
Whining Ylthin Losing the entire North American market is too big of a hit for any publisher to stick with it. They'd likely have to remove the mechanics or find some loophole. Besides, if the US implemented such laws, it's very likely the EU would follow.
In my country, giving access or selling anything to people under the age of 18 involving gambling is considered a criminal offense that has left people without licenses, businesses, and freedom.
Have a little cousin that is able to pick out a game every once in awhile. His mother took him to Wal Mart with her and he looked at the games in the case for a bit before picking Fortnite....I didn't pay much attention to it before but its pretty fucking shady to sell a beta for a free game on store shelves without marking it as such.
Holy shit, they're actually doing that. Game is planned to be free next year but for now you can "play early" (see: bug test). I already thought it was scummy to have players do a crucial part of game development for free that use to be a paid position, but now they're really having people pay THEM to do it? Jesus Christ that is abhorrent.
Yeah, its even the same as a normal retail game 59.99 and you can't return opened games. The game is riddled with the worst kind of free to play shit too.I watched him try and play it and there is so much bullshit going on it not only confused him but me too. There are main characters to collect, weapons tools and your stats depend on collecting characters you put in squads all found in loot boxes. Its a huge bunch of horseshit. i told him i would get him something new friday. Will probably take him to gamestop to buy a used game so if he doesn't like it he can return it for another one.The people who made fortnite are fucking shady assholes.
Sadly this seems to be a growing trend itself. Developers throwing 'Early Access' on their game to avoid potential criticisms and sucker morons into giving them money. And it's working, there are a good number of people out there who defend Fortnite with all the excuses and more Jim pointed out here.
To all the innocent children who think that developers and publishers pull this shit just so they can "make their money back," I have to fill you in on something. The entire point of running a business in a capitalist society is to maximize profits. Anybody who studies economics is taught that the proper way to run a business is NOT to provide a quality product or service at a FAIR price, but rather to provide the cheapest product or service at the HIGHEST price consumers are willing to pay for it. So long as there are idiots with too much money, this bullshit is only going to get worse. Just take a look at Sony charging for online play when it was free on the PS2 and PS3. They see that people are willing to pay extra for nothing extra because of how many morons paid for Xbox Live and it only made sense to do it themselves. It's literally free money from saps.
Maybe the leader of WB is an alien in a robotic body who has a human apperance? But i beleive he must be a a Utrom not a Orc. Something like this vignette1.wikia.nocookie.net/dc-marvel-tmnt/images/a/ae/Kraang4.png/revision/latest?cb=20140410031120 vignette2.wikia.nocookie.net/tmnt/images/f/f0/IMG_1908-1-.png/revision/latest?cb=20160202082707
I actually just finished Dead Space 3 and hated the crafting system, it felt like I never had enough resources and I couldn't craft even 1/4 of the weapons by the end of the game. Until seeing the screenshot in your video I had no idea it was because of MT but now it makes sense.
Steve H i did find it difficult but once i realised you could use ration seals to buy stuff, it got better. Ration seals were plentiful in my experience so resources no longer became a problem
Much as I hate MTs & found DS3 disappointing, they were not an issue in that game. Use drones and you will be showered in resources. You can craft all the OP guns you want without spending a single $. I don't mind the MTs being present in such a scenario. There are many games ruined by fee to pay, DS3 is not one of them.
You can farm the stuff easily, there's a "open door" trick of having enemies and resources refresh to obtain again. The guys behind the game specifically allowed easy farming and hinted at it in some of their videos....sadly you could tell they didn't want to have Microtransactions in the game, but those big time publishers want more, always more.
I attempted the end game grind WITHOUT microtransactions, tried to level up a 34 orc against a 21 orc in the pits and it lost!! that is an algorithm designed to frustrate in the endgame section and drive you towards MT, I immediately wiped the game from my hard drive and traded it in, a real let down, loved the first one.
So you lost a fight, immediately assumed the game was trying to screw your over and then uninstalled the game? I wonder how many games you actually still have on your hard drive then. In SoW, an orc being higher level than another doesn't guarantee a win in the fighting pits as they have a fundamental element of randomness to them. That said, the system wasn't designed to frustrate you into buying anything, if that was the case it wouldn't allow you to blatantly rig the fights in your favor by allowing you to see all the weaknesses and strengths of an enemy before deciding what ally to send in against them. The "automatic" pit fights which happen when you send in an orc as a spy does have an algorithm attached to it, and it's one where your guys always win. Also, the pit fights aren't the only way to level up your followers. Nemesis missions allow followers to gain just as many level, and they allow you to directly intervene.
But Jim, you forgot the best part of it all! When playing ranked multiplayer, you lose the orcs that die, and there are gonna be rewards for high ranking! You know what that means? Yes, is the same business model of your FREE TO PLAY mobile game, that applauds you for cheating their game with real money and slowly kills the bonus that got you first place so you have to buy MORE to keep staying here. Cue the twich-idiots who are gonna post their "pro multiplayer gameplay" to keep the game going on. How they can even stop when the audience is too idiotic to actually NOT give them money!
And the game will probably force you into the multiplayer wether you like it or not, like MGS V did. So that you HAVE TO risk your Single Player Ressources against other players in a system that is everything but fair.
Kenobi Wan Obi You technically don't have to, there is a "safe" mode where you can't loose stuff (but you won't improve your rating). So you have to if you actually want to gain something. Which is in itself just more glorified gambling. A gambling system within the game that allows you to use the resources you acquired through the micro transaction gambling system... Seriously, fuck you WB!
The safe mode is another old F2P tactic, you are gonna play it for the feel of the multiplayer mode, is gonna be a good feeling for sure, so you are TEMPTED by good play to go ranked. And at that point, fuck if you get owned, you have to feel like you need more orcs...and you get fucked.
CrowMercury I have a friend who is addicted to maplestory, he has probably spent about 8000 dolars in the past month on the fucking game. And he recently started a UA-cam channel and people like to watch his "pro bossing videos" or "enhancement guides" and all that shit. He thinks he is super pro at the game and people watch him to learn about the game and look up to him as a player, but he doesn't realize that the game requires no fucking skill and is mostly just luck, which you can throw a little bit of money at to try to improve your luck. It's really sad but he refuses to accept that he has any sort of a problem and my other friends only encourage him. It really depresses me.
Dude, 8000$?!? He needs help. Just make him think all he could have done with that much money. Hell, you can build a mean 2017 PC to do anything you wish with that sum, and more.
Like I've been saying If you buy MT to get gold so you can buy the chests thats your fault and problem, not theirs. They never told you or forced you to do it
Yeah you might want to watch the video above. If you have, watch it again. And don't worry i won't be doing that as I'm not gonna buy the game now due to the microtransactions.
If your not gonna buy the game because one function that you wouldn't use anyway then your just as stupid as the people that are going to buy MT's. i'm still buying it regardless of the stupid MT trap because i'm not a picky bitch
Austin Martinez The MT is gonna affect your experience whether you want it to or not. They're gonna make the game purposefully more grindy and shove the Lootboxes in your face.
If a loophole to bypasse the law doesn't exist, a little bit of money and lobbying will change that. They will always get away with that kind of stuff.
@chibidw That's because Blizzard isn't the same company that made games all those years ago. They aren't "gamers making games" anymore and haven't been for years at this point. They're coasting along on their reputation and shitting all over customers because they know they can. Everyone said that the Activision merger did nothing to the company, but that's because the merger was just a symptom of the bigger problem with the company itself. They aren't out to make a great product that people want to spend money on because it's good, they're out to make a product to milk as much money as possible out of while hiding behind rabid fanbois who defend every scummy action they've made.
Adam Solomon People let Blizzard do fucking anything these days. They haven't made a good game since SC2. Amd haven't made a masterpiece since D2. And I say that as someone who likes and still plays Overwatch and D3.
Loghan Gaming not with denuvo running around basically killing piracy Go look at torrent sites, the amount of torrents for recent triple A games is abysmal, games from bloody 2015 still havent been cracked The golden age of videogame piracy is over
SUPER SCUMMY GAME IDEAS - microtransactions the game: PvP, who ever pays more wins the round. noone can see what the other is offering. PR:"its about psychology of markets" (youd have to rephrase it and sell as a different mechanic or part of a game. maybe to skip XP grinds) - loot box auctions. after every round ppl can use the points they earn during the game and/or real cash to get an exclusive lootbox. PR: "we realised that previous systems flooded the game with legendary items. making them not legendary in the long run" - random chance improvements (for cash ofc). e.g. your goaly catches far more shots than he normally would (cmon EA you want that one) - bigger hitboxes in shooters (for cash ofc): PR: "to level the playing field for ppl with controllers" - sell online ranks. PR: "not everybody who has the skills of an super uber master general has the time to play to that rank. we just help good players to join other good player quicker" - sell shit for matches only if the whole group buys in. so ppl get bullied by other players to pay. PR "it increases the group feeling" - sell premium store options. e.g. buying new stuff earlier or unlock the premium store with even better items. PR: "games are expensive mimimi" - premium content thats connected to other games. e.g. to get the golden sword in shadow of morecash you have to buy a batman game - if you dont play a game for a certain amount of time you have to pay a reactivation fee. PR: "to stop the evil used market"
How about: Cosmetic items that deteriorate, until they're unusable. Can be repaired with real money. PR: "We wanted to encourage people to try new looks and switch skins often"
The growth of microtransactions in single player experiences is starting to worry me. What if they have them in Kingdom Hearts 3 for instance, I may actually cry...
Agent 005 I'm so sorry (at least AM2R was great, even if unofficial). But definitely, bc it affects the whole game industry. The reason I'm specifically worried about KH3 and just upset abiut Shadow of War, is that I love Shadow of Mordor but don't have an emotional attachment so it just sucks that the sequel is ruined, but I am legitamitely attached to Kingdom Hearts and would be devestated that the final chapter is unplayable bc of microtransactions (plus it's already a grindy game but at least until now you knew it's just how the game works, but with microtransactions makes it feel like a financial ploy)
+Crazelord91, they may or may not but you know there will be a season pass that costs almost as much as the base game. Square Enix has surrendered to that particular evil.
Some Nintendo exec is going to read that, think "Kingdom Hearts Amiibos used to unlock exclusive game content" and get a money erection so hard he passes out. Good work, Slider, good work ;)
Has anyone considered making a petition to force the ESRB/PEGI/CERO to rate any game with paid for loot boxes at 21+, because it truly is gambling with real money, and we as a people do not want to expose children to gambling, since it is so addictive when your mind isn't fully developed? Obviously, the developers won't change, so let's go around their backs and have the ratings organizations make these things "undesirable".
kariem elhanan In any country I know of you need to be an adult to gamble, and most stores won't stock games if they list a game rated at the highest rating possible. And even without that, in America alone it would warrant a 21+ rating (as most states require you to be that old to gamble) and require an AO rating, so no store in America would stock them. None of the western AAA publishers would lose the entire North American market to loot boxes.
Anyone who thinks it's too expensive to create these triple A titles and therefor must add these micro transactions, should go and check out a video by SuperBunnyHop about publishers and the way they avoid tax. It's quite literally astonishing to hear about the shit they do and the money they make
TheMagnetHand 94 I was just thinking about that video as Jim was talking about the "cost of making games today" argument. I wholeheartedly second this, people should go look up SBH's video.
Thank god for Jim Sterling. Will be skipping this one. And it makes me sad to do so, but between this and Shexy Shelob and the DLC pay-to-memorialize-a-fallen-comrade bullshit, I just can't abide this any longer.
Alexander Becker Exactly! Games back then didn't need all these stupid practices in order to make sales. It all seemed to start with DLC, pre-order bonuses, and season passes in the previous console generation and then just kind of went down hill from there. Disclaimer: I'm not saying things like DLC are inherently bad on their own. Having content to expand on the game you've bought can help increase its lifespan and make the game more enjoyable. However, when you have companies advertising DLC before a game is even released then that's a bit bullshit imo.
There are still some games in modern day that don't peddle this bullshit it's just hard to find them sometimes. I've been playing Yakuza 0 for example, a solid brawler with rpg elements and a decent story to boot and likable characters. Best part is there is no other purchases necessary from what I have seen, the only real buyable things on top are avatars.
I am proud to say that in my entire history as a "gamer", I have never, and will never, pay for any form of microtransaction. There are so many options for entertainment nowadays that I could never play a game that includes microtransactions and still have 100 lifetimes worth of games to play.
+izaac chapman Cosmetics are part of the problem too. Halo 5 is a good example, all its content is in random reward packs, so all of its content is worthless.
I buy DLC, although only if the DLC is excellent. "Overlord" in Mass Effect 2 being a standout. I refuse "DLC" that cheats the gameplay, though. Jim made an excellent point that DLC to bypass gameplay means that the developers put that gameplay not to challenge the player, but to punish the player for not bribing the developers.
Well since Steam let's you sell those stupid collecting cards... I used that money for 1 purchase of platinum in Warframe (with a 50% discount on it). Which was not unfair I think since I played Warframe for over 350 hours and it's a F2P game. Never ever will I support microtransaction bullsh*t in a AAA full priced release.
I kinda envy you cause you get to go and watch Jim's backlog of reviews for the 1st time. I found him about a year ago (his No Man Sky & Might No.9 video's/reviews almost killed me), been loving this channel since then.
I know right? I came in a long time ago and then fell out for over a year. I have immensely enjoyed the backlog. A lot of these aren't topical anymore, but always relevant to the industry. Thank God for Jim.
Sounds like a plan to me, as Jim said microtransactions, especially of this nature are basically a publishers way of telling you they have no confidence the game is going to sell enough copies to make a profit, and if you were going past a burger place shouting "get your burgers here! they're really really bad so if you pay extra I'll eat it for you!" you wouldn't buy it, so why the hell do people buy this shit.
In some games it's a part of game design yeah, like Warframe. But in most games a grind is just there to hold you back. War Thunder comes to mind. Quit playing that because I couldn't be bothered with the slow progress anymore
EminemLovesCupcakes Wouldn't say "most". But yeah, people are quite oblivious when it comes to that. See LoL. Everybody knows the rune system is absolute trash. But everybody swallows.
The grinding made me quit GTAOnline. It was fun on the PS3 with all the exploits, and cheats available. I would do missions for the pure joy of the missions themselves, and otherwise goof around in private lobbies with friends. When all of those were patched... I lost all interest. Probably won't care about GTA6 as a result.
EminemLovesCupcakes The gta online experience is what we can expect for grind created to sell fakebucks for real cash in games you already FUCKING PAYED FOR
bigevilworldwide1 corporations salivate at the thought of dumb fucks with more money then sense like you. Feel free to throw your money away to spite people on the internet, but the truth is, no one here cares, in the end the only one who benefits is the corporations.
I say that if you spend money for gold so you can buy lootboxes then your a fucking idiot and its not the game its you Its not like their demanding you buy in game currency either, your all acting like they are gonna force you to buy the chests wether you have the gold or not
Dear my Brother. I apologize for my 10 year old jerk self for the time when I was a Dungeon Master for our groups D&D and gave my you a +5 Longsword in exchange for $20 bucks in real life. That was a pretty messed up thing to take advantage of you like that. I am glad I have grown up and seen just how unethical that was. Could you imagine, as adults, if we still all had the ethical foundation of a 10 year old and still pulled that kind of crap on younger people who trust us?! What a crap world that would be....oh....wait.. (p.s. That is actually a true story.....see marketers.....a 10 year old thought of this 'clever' idea of years almost 30 years ago)
Bat cup triple A game piracy is dying though, most recent games never get "cracked" Its why these companies can be so greedy now they know you cant pirate the game, if pirates were still cracking games then they wouldnt dare be so greedy
You'll pretty much only need 7zip, qbittorrent, and a pirating website that supplies magnet links (magnet links are made specificially to be picked up and downloaded with torrent programs like qbittorrent)
Except he was utterly wrong though as none of the microtransactions in the game gave you any real advantage, just more of the same things that the game already gave you in droves, and certainly nothing resembling an "easy road to power".
+indy6s You couldn't get more powerful orcs earlier, in fact all of the orcs from the loot boxes were lower level than your player character (by up to ten levels) and the traits of the loot box orcs were also generally much worse than those of the orcs that you met and interacted with in the game's open world since the nemesis system was designed so that the more you helped level up an orc, the more strengths they gained and the more weaknesses they lost. The developers clearly explained this numerous times in their post-release streams of the game. There were also no time saver microtransactions in the game, getting more orcs and/or more gear didn't mean that you would finish the game faster.
here is one small thing about these gamble boxes and most people don't know it... If this game is in china with it's gamble packs, by law they MUST publish the percentages on the drops in said boxes because this is covered by their gambling laws. So in short, before you go opening any of these packs from any game remember this and look for China's %'s charts and maybe save money knowing the purple thing you want has a 0.003% drop chance. (That 0.003% is actually the drop rate chance on an item in one game I play, not just something I made up)
"You don't have to buy the stuff" is the literal equivalent of "you don't have to play it" as response to game criticism or "you don't have to watch it" as response to movie/show criticism.
Pretty strong points. I know we often call for boycott, but in this case they simple _have_ to fail. If sheeps start buying this shit, it could actually begin to ruin any single-player game with the slightest RPG element in it. >:(
This sucks. I loved the first one. Actually got the Platinum trophy for it. But I just can't support this. Was really looking forward to the game too. Now it's a skip
+1 I adored Shadow of Mordor and was so incredibly hype for Shadow of War. When the microtransaction news hit I was god damn livid because what I'm sure is going to be a great game was marred by this greedy industry bullshit. Now WB won't even be getting a game sale out of me because fuck them.
I'm generally 50/50 on your opinions, but this video is truly a public service. I'm going to steal the term "Microwagers" now, considering "Microtransactions" implies I could just buy the thing I want.
In the new games release wasteland that is August of each year, people actually thought Jim wouldn't get around to destroying a game that has fucking MICRO TRANSACTIONS in it! Did everyone suddenly forget who Jim Fucking Sterling Son is!!! Praise be his name, may you walk in his benevolence, and may #1 Kissboys fill your every dream.
Next there will be a 'Bored Of The Rings' Pre-Paid-In-Advanced-Pre-Paid-DLC, just to infuriate Tolkien superfans even more ('loosely based on the National Lampoon book') Actually, there was a Robot Chicken sketch seemingly foretelling such an upheaval "DLC Pack 2 contains Lord Of The Rings Pachinko, busty elf-maidens and dragons in heat!"
has the game say they are online only drm. if not you can just add infinite currency trough save edit or cheat engine i did that for like a couple of minute in fallout vault before getting bore.
Imagine going to a resturant, buying a 20 dollar meal, and then the manager comes up to you and says: "we'll eat your food for you if you pay us 5 dollars!"
Now this is the Jimboi we know and love. It's sad that we still have to call these sorts of practices out, but apparently they're successful enough to shamelessly continue.
He probably would be okay with them then. He's the guy whose most praise of Fallout 4 came from the fact that you can fuck multiple people of both genders, and whose final word on Undertale was "10/10 because you can date a skeleton." He may very well be upset about what happened to Shelob because her being a normal, attractive woman killed his boner.
Add microtransactions to a full price game = i'm not buying the game. Microtransactions are ok in f2p games, when they dont affect gameplay and are purely cosmetic. Microtransactions, in a FULL PRICED solo game, which fuck the balance of the game and shits on the legacy of LOTR? What else will video games ruign? Pay $10 to unlock OP guns in Star Wars? Oh wait. Tldr : fuck large game publishers. They evade taxes and exploit devs and gamers.
I love this guy, how very well articulated. As I have gotten older, I now just sit and wait at least 2-3yrs until a game goes on a deep discount, then buy it. I no longer trust the industry. sad.
True. If I can find a crack for my complete edition then I am happy. 'cos I don't get why my singleplayer only game needs to be connected to the internet all the time.
Jim your godly passion for games and your wrath against disgraceful practices is exactly what we need. I'm subscribing now, looking forward to watching more of your crusade in gaming.
The question is. Can I cheat in a singleplayer game only? Like the cheats from San Andreas. The answear is YES. Yes, you can. Single player, you can cheat and do whatever you want with you game since you're not breaking the game for others. In other words, I can cheat and get infinite coins to buy these orcs, right? WB would allow this? They would openly say "Yes, you can cheat and get coins for free"? No? So why I'm not allowing to cheat in my singleplayer game? Fuck this microtransactions shit.
Dmitry Shubkin if the devs gave a shit about how the experience was balanced then they would not have put loot boxes in the game at all. as it stands you can mod/cheat the game and get the lootboxes for free or you can pay real money for them. In a full price game i know which i would choose
I think the singleplayer effects the multiplayer though. From what I heard, the orcs you get in lootboxes can be used to defend against people attacking your base. I'm at least hoping there's a way to not participate in that side of things.
To be fair, there are reasons to cheat without just "ruining the game balance," though sometimes it does that. I know my favorite bit of cheating for quite a while has been DS2 theme runs, where I give myself a specific gear set at the beginning of the game based on, well, some theme or another, and then that's all I'm allowed to use for the entire game. This has an amusing effect, generally, of making some sections way easier, and then some sections brutally harder, like I did a Daughters of Chaos themed run once and my god the Smelter Demon and Old Iron King took forever to kill (since I just had Pyromancies and the Black Dragon Sword [since with Flame Blade on it looks like the Furysword. Stylin'! Also terrible]). But with more and more games shoving microtransactions in, there's more and more incentive for them to try to crack down on any forms of shenanigans like that. Or, hell, even just stuff like "Oh hey, I've been grinding for a while, I'd like a cool Legendary orc... Ehhhhhhh, yeah I'm not feeling punching the RNG until what I want comes out of it..." Which is totally fine in a single player game. I generally wouldn't do it (as mentioned, I save all my cheating for weird gimmicks and goofiness =P), but if someone doesn't want to spend an extra half hour just to grind for the drop they want... I don't think that's actually hurting game balance at all. And is certainly way less likely to than getting a massive influx of random stuff all at once buying their way to said legendary, or what have you.
Balbanes Beoulve exactly. If some people want to rush the game and not level up or grind then they should be able to use a cheat code like we would have in the past.
I love your logic on the 'unimportant' peripherals and how it is more valuable to NOT play the game, these publishers are so contradictory. Charging extra money for things that they say aren't valuable. I wish i could think as critically as that. Great video, please don't stop doing these videos.
An average consumer that has money, but not as much as a whale. They can just barely purchase a game and have some cash left over for a burger. Companies aiming at dolphins are aiming for that burger money as well, making sure even well respected dolphins who worked hard for their money is left with nothing but a disappointment, and no burgers to eat.
I love loot boxes. Nothing gives me more excitement than blindly clicking on an imaginary "box", watching a sexy animation of said-box opening, and basking in the glory of the digital object which resides inside. I'm really happy and excited that WB Interactive is including such a pleasurable experience in their up and coming video game.
That's true. To quote Jim from a few years ago, "Do not by WB games at launch, because one, they're probably going to be broken, two, they won't be able or willing to fix it, and three, there will just be some kind of Deluxe edition a year or so later with all the DLC bundled in. WB itself has trained its playerbase to realize that buying at launch is a waste of money."
Because """whales""", as these companies call their largest supporters, have more money than time and side with microtransactions in premium games, validating them in these companies' eyes
That was a new IP. This is a sequel of a successful game in a very successful franchise that has plenty rabid fans who will buy anything remotely LOTR-related. It's not a clear cut comparison.
Scavenger crates in for honor really arnt bad. I have 15 of the things because the game literally hands them out like candy, and the gear inside is based off your level, and you can them with steel for relativly cheap so... yeah... their actually not bad... maybe play the game before you judge it?
Also all the post launch content for for honor is free. its literally a better system then siege seeing as how new heros are only 15000 steel, instead of 25000 in siege, and steel is easier to get then in siege... yet i dont see anyone comolaining about siege...
Good old Ubisoft. With them, it's always impossible to tell if they're being malicious or just incompetent. Regardless, that basic gambling-like strategy of customer abuse is still present in both FH and R6S, and I do not like it.
Might be able to, although from what they have said you have to be connected to their server for the microtransactions, so they probably keep everything on the servers so CheatEngine wouldn't work. If they keep all the relevant data locally like Borderlands though...
I thought it was well written simply because it explained the negativity of lootboxes and micro transactions in a way most ppl even outright idiots should understand. Which means it informs a larger population on how to properly argue against them in the future arming all of us with knowledge. Thanks for giving me more bullet points so I can crap on some shitters who try to argue for this steaming mess.
Yeah, it really is appalling how complacent people are with this lootbox bullshit. So many seem to think it's fine just because "they don't buy them, so it doesn't affect them", or because "they're just cosmetics". They've become so used to it, they don't even consider the fact that someone just tried to pull what is basically a scam (or at the very least a really underhanded psychological trick) on them worth acknowledging.
I hate that I have the urge to defend someone here. Not Warner, God no. I mean Monolith. I can't help but feel like the micro-transactions weren't really their choice. And honestly, their presence in this game in particular is ridiculous. The Nemesis System revolves around INTERACTING with the fucking enemies, getting to know them! Not fucking buying minions. Fuck.
Mist-heart I'd like to believe that Monolith aren't a massive bunch of Skeleton Warriors too. It really seems like WB is taking a massive shit on their baby and no one wants a shit covered baby. Except for copraphiles, maybe.
It feels like Deus Ex: Mankind Divided all over again. The devs were pretty much forced to implement the microtransaction bollocks because Square Enix is a bunch of *Skeleton Warriors*.
WB also had no faith in Mordor and tried bribing UA-cam critics to spread good word on a game that turned out to be AWESOME! It almost trashed the rep of a game that would be many gamers GotY
Imagine the speedruns of this game. "Alright guys now I'm gonna buy a warchest and hope for a legendary uruk..." "DAMN IT! Welp, time to reset I guess"
warhammernerd52 the Tolkien estate hate the game with or without micro transactions and I have to say as a fan of the books I sort of do too. No offense to any lotr fans that enjoyed the original I just think the story and lore in these games is pretty trashy. The Tolkien estate signed away some gaming rights etc. with the movies. They would take it back if they could I reckon. Tolkiens son is fairly protective
also who could really blame him when shady shit like this is the result, I mean what the fuck has this really got to do with rings? Shelob as a sexy witch lady!? jesus!
It seems like the movies are the only things which matter now and the novels are practically just there for bathroom paper, the same things happened with Star Wars and JK Rowling: novels are a slowly dying art for the modern monks who wish to inscript: The Fellowship of the Ring was unsurprisingly the most faithful and would have gotten two more games if complications hadn't risen out of the dead marshes. The games that came after were mostly good, if too movie inspired, including the RTS games (let's not forget War of the Ring) LOTR: Conquest was basically a dumbed down star wars battlefront and then some. Let us not forget Dune by Frank Herbert, of which the Lynch of David movie rendered the book inert. Let us not forget War of the Worlds by HG Wells, of which the Cruise of Tom movie rendered the book inert.
I'm of the opinion that microtransactions are ok on two conditions: 1: There is no random aspect to the purchase. You want a specific item and can pony up the cash up front, you get the item. As a result, selling anything that randomises the stats of an item upon receipt is unacceptable. 2: The game is either free to play, and/or has completely free DLC expansions. If you've already taken my money to play the game, and expect me to pay again to get the full range of content after release, gouging my wallet with microtransactions is taking the piss.
I would like to see TotalBiscuit make a response to this, considering that he has been alarmingly ok with this practice for a while now. I'm not looking to start a witch hunt for the man just because he has a different opinion, I just want to see if this latest stunt has changed his mind on the subject. Edit: As Szorrin pointed out, TB is only ok with the practice of selling cosmetic items ONLY, not actual gameplay effecting transactions. My point still stands, but it is important to make that distinction in order of fairness.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but to my understanding from having watched TB's videos, it's only the microtransactions that have no impact on the actual gameplay (cosmetics, basically) that he's 'okay with'. He's not okay with microtransactions that give you an edge over other players, or in other ways decrease the value of actually playing the game. This is, to my understanding, the only difference in their opinions.
You are correct, I was just thinking about the whole "Give the developers an inch, and they take a mile" kind of thing, which seems to be where these more egregious forms of transactions seem to be coming from. Plus games like Overwatch still have systems in place that encourage gambling tendencies (in kids no less), even if it is just cosmetics. It's just not a system I can support, especially in full price titles.
Even though I love the presentation of Overwatch and have at times found the game pretty enjoyable, I've had to give up playing it, same as Hearthstone before that. Yes the loot boxes in that are all cosmetic, that's not the point. I'm the kind of person that can, at times, be pretty impulsive. I'm just the kind of person systems like this are targeting because even though I'm very much against microtransactions like these I'm not the type to simply ignore them. The only way to truly prevent myself from inevitably going on a major spending spree on occasion is to remove myself from the situation that might provoke that behavior even though I'd really rather just be able to play the game.
Wait, so you unlock... Powerful rivals to fight in Shadow of War. The whole fun of the game is procedural rivals, and this... Just makes rivals show up. REALLY. REALLY WITH THIS. W.T.F.
No, because I don't make mistakes or flub lines. I was clearly saying that it was *doubtless that the audience was faithless and this is obvious and canon*.
The only way for this shit to quit happening is to boycott it entirely. Hit the publisher where it hurts the most.. in the wallet. Unfortunately this will also affect the developer, even if they didn't plan on putting the crap in in the first place. The publisher will then see that the game didn't sell well, shutter the developer, and then go on to its next project and add even more micro transactions into the next title. Hmmmm maybe boycotting doesn't work after all? Ok fine I will wait for it to go 75% off, not pay attention to the store, and just not buy the dlc that will come out later.
And if you wait 1 year for the GOTY edition to go on sale you get all the content for a third of the price of the original game. It's kind of like NMS, you have to wait one year after release to get the whole game.
Problem is, the fans that actually feed into this habit of microtransactions and paid DLC will continue to do so. And the company will still profit from them.
What's fucking annoying about it is they never bother to try and find out WHY the game failed. We all send a very loud and crystal clear message that we don't want Microtransactions by boycotting the game. So they shutter the developer and make another game with more microtransactions because they don't have enough money to cover the cost of development. Hell, even if we all buy the game but ignore the microtransactions the dopey cunts think the game was a success but they didn't push the microtransactions hard enough so they try to make them unavoidable in the next title. Which leads to a boycott and shuttering of the developer. We need a new strategy.
I wish I had more self control with micro-transactions. I'm completely against them, in any game, but once in a while my stupid ass gives in and spends money. God, if I could get back all the unnecessary money I've spent in Blizzard games...
I just don't buy games with microtransactions period, I don't trust myself. Only game I have with them is War Thunder (which is free) and if I ever get tempted to buy microtransactions, I plan on deleting my account.
I propose a new motto for House Sterling
"Monday has come and so have I."
StarTsurugi Jim will laugh last because corporations came to die?
The critique done, the pain just starts.
One Rule, The Only Rule
StarTsurugi I honestly expected jim to say that since it was set up so well lol
StarTsurugi, eww….
Josh .l
I'm just going to say one word about that orc
it's a Jew
no I'm not antisemitic, I'm saying that orc is exactly how the anitsemites portray jews... greed stereotype included... and if we really want to boycott this game, making a fuss over that "racist depiction" can seriously work
+Drakan R
I stumbled onto these comments before getting to that point in the video and holy shit that's blatant.
2:50 imgur.com/TvoAyVm
To anybody who crapped out the instant Drakan R said the words "It's a Jew" please keep reading the comment, and also read the one below it, and click on the link. The commenters ARE NOT being anti-semitic, and are in fact making an excellent point.
Those were, however, three fucking words, Drakan, not one. Tool.
Warner Bros didn't think the first game would be a success and bribed people to say positive things about the great game. This time they expected it to be a success so they put in a bunch of bullshit that ruined it.
Pretty sure the orc is someone at Monolith venting their anger at this.
Do they not see the irony in depicting Shadow of War's market "mascot" as a greasy old orc constantly rubbing his hands together Birdman-style?
I paid approximately zero dollars, cause I did not play it.
I guess it's kind of randomly asking but do anybody know of a good website to watch newly released tv shows online ?
@Ahmed Ryan Flixportal :)
@Deshawn Ameer Thank you, I went there and it seems to work =) Appreciate it!!
@Ahmed Ryan you are welcome xD
sounds like you are complaining about an imaginary group of people.. People didnt defend lootboxes they just didnt care enough to complain.
they're putting the fucking ENEMIES in random loot boxes? that's so fucking greedy it's funny, it's honestly pathetic lol
I think these guys are trying for Refuge in Audacity. Going so far over the top that nobody will believe their critics.
not enemies lol
It's so sad, like, what's the point of even playing? HOW ARE PEOPLE OK WITH THIS?
Wow, this is degrading and disappointing...
Umut Balcı They shouldn't be anything. Micro transactions in single player video games, or any video game, should not exist.
c r a b ikr and +1 sub for his brutal honesty and comedic "fuck you's" to these shitty companies shitting on the gaming industry and wallet-raping the consumer!
Fucking, "Apropros..."
Deathshead1923 yeah and it also looks suspiciously like those racists Jewish characatures too.
Warco So I like to show off my vocabulary. Does that invalidate my statement about the unintended implications of a greedy-looking figure being on the fee-to-pay screen?
A deep lexicon equates to deep thought.
"It's the same whether you get an ork in-game or via the market"
Yes, that's why it always confused me that Frodo chose to carry the ring to Mordor instead of just paying enough microtransactions to get Sauron to be a follower.
Seriously though, I'm really excited about buying ork followers with real money, who then join me because of the awesome in-universe story-driven explanation of... reasons.
"Yes, that's why it always confused me that Frodo chose to carry the ring to Mordor instead of just paying enough microtransactions to get Sauron to be a follower."
You made my day, Sir!
Remember when we had to work for unlockables? Putting hours of work in a game just to get that cool costume or that awesome item? Yeah. Me too. I miss it.
to get lightning on your hat, please play for *years on end* to get those credits for one week of it.
*cough* skial tf2 servers *cough*
dragonownzor 666 you don't have to buy micro transactions just ignore them
+Chris Irven holy fuck you really are a naive child, please stay off the internet.
I was thinking this was a joke pasta story because I didn't believe Fortnite was being sold like this. Wtf.
Wow, boxed early access!?!?
It boggles my mind as to just how foreign this concept is to most people.
All I want for Christmas are Minesweeper loot boxes.
I swear that orc on the market screen is probably the CEO of WB.
Maybe the leader of WB is an alien in a robotic body who has a human apperance? But i beleive he must be a a Utrom not a Orc. Something like this vignette1.wikia.nocookie.net/dc-marvel-tmnt/images/a/ae/Kraang4.png/revision/latest?cb=20140410031120 vignette2.wikia.nocookie.net/tmnt/images/f/f0/IMG_1908-1-.png/revision/latest?cb=20160202082707
Valentin Maire EXACTLY SHAMELESS HES RUBBING HIS FUKIN HANDS! I CANT BELIEVE SOME PPL ARE EXCUSING THIS UTTER SHIT.
I chortled at this.
Hell no, that orc is too handsome to be a CEO.
The market ork is the CFO.
I actually just finished Dead Space 3 and hated the crafting system, it felt like I never had enough resources and I couldn't craft even 1/4 of the weapons by the end of the game. Until seeing the screenshot in your video I had no idea it was because of MT but now it makes sense.
Steve H yeh things will be very similar here in SoW, do what you think is right with your money mate!
WZ MYOB all you need is a plasma cutter
I know someone in my world that defends the microtransactions so damn much for this game......help me Jim.
Like I've been saying
If you buy MT to get gold so you can buy the chests thats your fault and problem, not theirs.
Akmal Ibrahim With the Nemesis System, the grind, if there truly is one, can still be fun. Not gonna lay a finger on the micro stuff though.
This is basically gambling.
Hopefully, laws will catch up with this.
I mostly worry that when the law DOES some of the better games will just be abandoned rather than be updated to abide by the law.
Damion Dixon Overwatch is a good game. Stop letting your own biases cloud your judgement
Well, we can always torrent the game with infinite currency.
Loghan Gaming not with denuvo running around basically killing piracy
Go look at torrent sites, the amount of torrents for recent triple A games is abysmal, games from bloody 2015 still havent been cracked
The golden age of videogame piracy is over
Except games protected with Denuvo have been getting cracked left and right lately.
+charl X you need to get up to date, ever since steampunks (scene group) released a keygen denuvo basically died
Denuvo is killing modding, not piracy. Pretty much everything on all but latest version of denuvo been cracked now.
Hum.. No. You're misinformed.
Dishonored 2, Just Cause 3 for example are recent games with Denuvo which have been cracked.
SUPER SCUMMY GAME IDEAS
- microtransactions the game: PvP, who ever pays more wins the round. noone can see what the other is offering. PR:"its about psychology of markets" (youd have to rephrase it and sell as a different mechanic or part of a game. maybe to skip XP grinds)
- loot box auctions. after every round ppl can use the points they earn during the game and/or real cash to get an exclusive lootbox. PR: "we realised that previous systems flooded the game with legendary items. making them not legendary in the long run"
- random chance improvements (for cash ofc). e.g. your goaly catches far more shots than he normally would (cmon EA you want that one)
- bigger hitboxes in shooters (for cash ofc): PR: "to level the playing field for ppl with controllers"
- sell online ranks. PR: "not everybody who has the skills of an super uber master general has the time to play to that rank. we just help good players to join other good player quicker"
- sell shit for matches only if the whole group buys in. so ppl get bullied by other players to pay. PR "it increases the group feeling"
- sell premium store options. e.g. buying new stuff earlier or unlock the premium store with even better items. PR: "games are expensive mimimi"
- premium content thats connected to other games. e.g. to get the golden sword in shadow of morecash you have to buy a batman game
- if you dont play a game for a certain amount of time you have to pay a reactivation fee. PR: "to stop the evil used market"
Mike Hunt Delete this shit before they get ideas lol
Mike Hunt I honestly feel like ay least half of that is something publishers could actually try in the near future. Gross.
Sent this to the team, thanks!
How about: Cosmetic items that deteriorate, until they're unusable. Can be repaired with real money. PR: "We wanted to encourage people to try new looks and switch skins often"
COD is already giving prizes for watching other people open loot boxes...
Oh, she breathes through her skin? Well that explains it then. Move along, no outrage to see here.
Amy Fitzpatrick was the greatest of shots fired, best burn
Amy Fitzpatrick
Isn't that Quiet's excuse, too?
Just as silly, I reckon.
Frogs do so. That's why they die if dry.
You'll have to excuse Warner Brothers. They breath through their skin. Please understand.
AAA single player games are now the same thing as Mobile games like Angry Birds.
Fuck this industry.
+Crazelord91, they may or may not but you know there will be a season pass that costs almost as much as the base game. Square Enix has surrendered to that particular evil.
Hey, Nintendo already have Amiibo shit going on that gives advantage in games, no?
Some Nintendo exec is going to read that, think "Kingdom Hearts Amiibos used to unlock exclusive game content" and get a money erection so hard he passes out. Good work, Slider, good work ;)
"You can still unlock it" if you spend tons and tons of time doing the same thing over and over again expecting a different result. Literal insanity.

Hi doggie.
Hornbowman oh hi Lisa
Has anyone considered making a petition to force the ESRB/PEGI/CERO to rate any game with paid for loot boxes at 21+, because it truly is gambling with real money, and we as a people do not want to expose children to gambling, since it is so addictive when your mind isn't fully developed? Obviously, the developers won't change, so let's go around their backs and have the ratings organizations make these things "undesirable".
Clifton Church
I don't know if there is any way that that would work, but I like the idea!
Clifton Church Most console and PC gamers are 30 plus anyways. It would make no difference.
to be fair don't different countries have different age restrictions to gambelling?
kariem elhanan In any country I know of you need to be an adult to gamble, and most stores won't stock games if they list a game rated at the highest rating possible. And even without that, in America alone it would warrant a 21+ rating (as most states require you to be that old to gamble) and require an AO rating, so no store in America would stock them. None of the western AAA publishers would lose the entire North American market to loot boxes.
That's genius
"Which again suggests it's a waste of time to actively play the game, since it's worth money not to play it." - brilliantly put.
The invent a problem sell a solution arguement is a great arguement against microtransactions put in a clear and concise way. Well said!
Link?
Man I literally just watched that video yesterday. It's disgusting.
@Paddy Folan Here you go: youtube(dot)com /watch?v=SFKnv1YzI3k
Cicada 109.2 much appreciated!
Thank god for Jim Sterling. Will be skipping this one. And it makes me sad to do so, but between this and Shexy Shelob and the DLC pay-to-memorialize-a-fallen-comrade bullshit, I just can't abide this any longer.
Practices like this are why I've more or less given up on modern gaming and prefer to play games from decades past instead.
siliodon early 2000s were great, the ps2 didnt have nor need this kind of shit
Alexander Becker Exactly! Games back then didn't need all these stupid practices in order to make sales. It all seemed to start with DLC, pre-order bonuses, and season passes in the previous console generation and then just kind of went down hill from there.
Disclaimer: I'm not saying things like DLC are inherently bad on their own. Having content to expand on the game you've bought can help increase its lifespan and make the game more enjoyable. However, when you have companies advertising DLC before a game is even released then that's a bit bullshit imo.
ps2 masterrace
There are still some games in modern day that don't peddle this bullshit it's just hard to find them sometimes.
I've been playing Yakuza 0 for example, a solid brawler with rpg elements and a decent story to boot and likable characters. Best part is there is no other purchases necessary from what I have seen, the only real buyable things on top are avatars.
Call of duty modern warfare fucking remastered.
Chests are so obviously gambling... people have to be blind not to see it.
nah they arent.... if you are gambling... you can make some money out of it.... you cant make shit out of MicroTr
i really don't know why people waste lots of cash into MT like overwatch
I am proud to say that in my entire history as a "gamer", I have never, and will never, pay for any form of microtransaction.
There are so many options for entertainment nowadays that I could never play a game that includes microtransactions and still have 100 lifetimes worth of games to play.
+izaac chapman
Cosmetics are part of the problem too.
Richard England Amen, dude.
Only microtransactions I've dealt with were for CS:GO and I regret it deeply. Except some skins I flipped
HOW HAVE I NEVER FOUND SEEN THIS CHANNEL BEFORE
Cursed the Critic Good taste sir!
I kinda envy you cause you get to go and watch Jim's backlog of reviews for the 1st time.
I found him about a year ago (his No Man Sky & Might No.9 video's/reviews almost killed me), been loving this channel since then.
Breath the free air my friend - gandalf.
I know right? I came in a long time ago and then fell out for over a year. I have immensely enjoyed the backlog. A lot of these aren't topical anymore, but always relevant to the industry. Thank God for Jim.
*lskdfoIS* I agree, Jim is a great entertainer and highly informative.
Well if I can pay to skip playing the game... Couldn't I also just skip paying and not play the game? Same effect right?
Sure, pay me 40 bucks and you can skip the entire game. I will send you a link to the ending cinematic after release.
It's a bargain.
I'll do it for 29.95.
I saw a post on Craigslist asking for a save at the end of GTA: Vice City. He was offering like $20.
Sounds like a plan to me, as Jim said microtransactions, especially of this nature are basically a publishers way of telling you they have no confidence the game is going to sell enough copies to make a profit, and if you were going past a burger place shouting "get your burgers here! they're really really bad so if you pay extra I'll eat it for you!" you wouldn't buy it, so why the hell do people buy this shit.
you're goddamn right
"The One Ring" came out of a loot box..I vividly remember that happening..lol
"The grinding exists solely to sell microtransactions" hey you mean like GTA Online? That made billions.
EminemLovesCupcakes the grinding can be pretty fun.
EminemLovesCupcakes The gta online experience is what we can expect for grind created to sell fakebucks for real cash in games you already FUCKING PAYED FOR
Ah, Jim Sterling. Master of insulting those who deserve it.
People are defending this?
bigevilworldwide1 corporations salivate at the thought of dumb fucks with more money then sense like you. Feel free to throw your money away to spite people on the internet, but the truth is, no one here cares, in the end the only one who benefits is the corporations.
I say that if you spend money for gold so you can buy lootboxes then your a fucking idiot and its not the game its you
Its not like their demanding you buy in game currency either, your all acting like they are gonna force you to buy the chests wether you have the gold or not
Yes, A LOT.
bigevilworldwide1 Then go live with yourself knowing you have ruined gaming.
yeah, he's a troll.
Sonic 2 - Casino Night Zone theme in the background.
Nice one. xD
He did this in the video about that website advertising online casinos too, and it's amazing. I just wish he used the modern generations version
I need to learn how to pirate games.
Bat cup triple A game piracy is dying though, most recent games never get "cracked"
Its why these companies can be so greedy now they know you cant pirate the game, if pirates were still cracking games then they wouldnt dare be so greedy
charl X err, you do realize most if not all games from 2016 have been cracked right?
It's just patience that needs to be addressed
charl X Denuvo is very easily cracked. Most games are cracked within the first week of release. Stop spreading false information.
Calvin Kary go look at the torrent lists, dont bullshit
You'll pretty much only need 7zip, qbittorrent, and a pirating website that supplies magnet links (magnet links are made specificially to be picked up and downloaded with torrent programs like qbittorrent)
As soon as I laid eyes on the title of this video, I knew daddy was angry.
3:06 honestly this line is the only thing you needed to get your point across, simply brilliant
Except he was utterly wrong though as none of the microtransactions in the game gave you any real advantage, just more of the same things that the game already gave you in droves, and certainly nothing resembling an "easy road to power".
Saving, time, getting more powerful orcs earlier without needing to put in the work
Less effort more reward, hence easy road to power
Tim Pize yup I can't condone or justify to purchase this game to anyone
Too late now, sheep's are already doing it. and this all started cause of mobile games on android.
Jims been banging on about it for... at least that long. It was bullshit then and it is still bullshit. Twat.
They won't fail, trust me. Just look how many people actually DEFEND this bullshit.
Let's be realistic, it's already gone too far and there's basically no way to stop it now
it's the FUTURE'S FUTURE FUTURE FUTURE FUTURE *screams incoherently*
iharasu ohhhhh nice reference to the devolver digital e3 presentation
I dont know why Jim doesnt use clips from that
This sucks. I loved the first one. Actually got the Platinum trophy for it. But I just can't support this. Was really looking forward to the game too. Now it's a skip
Ranger that's not the point. I just don't want to support this line of thinking by Warner Brothers
Bryan Lonsdale I'm boycotting this game as well.
Same here Microtransactions in any game = no sale from me.
Same here, though I won't skip it entirely. I'll just get it for $5 in a humble bundle/steam sale in a few years instead.
+1
I adored Shadow of Mordor and was so incredibly hype for Shadow of War. When the microtransaction news hit I was god damn livid because what I'm sure is going to be a great game was marred by this greedy industry bullshit. Now WB won't even be getting a game sale out of me because fuck them.
"Lootboxes aren't gambling!"
They're worse. At least when you gamble you can get your money back.
You know Jim is angry when the skellington warriors are on screen this long.
Oh hey, look, another game where the pirates get an objectively better product
Provided Denuvo doesn't get in the way.
Next there will be a 'Bored Of The Rings' Pre-Paid-In-Advanced-Pre-Paid-DLC, just to infuriate Tolkien superfans even more ('loosely based on the National Lampoon book') Actually, there was a Robot Chicken sketch seemingly foretelling such an upheaval
"DLC Pack 2 contains Lord Of The Rings Pachinko, busty elf-maidens and dragons in heat!"
And i lost my interest in this game. I hope i'm not the only one...
XXX200o never had any interest in it, but now even less
has the game say they are online only drm. if not you can just add infinite currency trough save edit or cheat engine i did that for like a couple of minute in fallout vault before getting bore.
XXX200o was gonna buy it cause I missed the last game, now I don't care
Yep was looking forward to this game. Now I'm avoiding it like the plague it has become
I was extremely excited, now i won't be getting it.
Imagine going to a resturant, buying a 20 dollar meal, and then the manager comes up to you and says: "we'll eat your food for you if you pay us 5 dollars!"
I just remembered that the orcs in this game can betray you now...
You can now pay for an orc, just for them to leave you and become your enemy.
Now this is the Jimboi we know and love. It's sad that we still have to call these sorts of practices out, but apparently they're successful enough to shamelessly continue.
This is ultimately the kind of game piracy exists for.
Tigerhearty
I don't see how piracy can save this game.
Nope, but it will save my wallet from this game.
You can also not play the game at all. That's what boycotting actually means.
PlokiteWolf Well pirating it would accomplish that goal as well. You can enjoy the game without giving WB a single cent.
That works. Afterall, there's no drone in the gaming industry that would buy a game for the name recognition.
I got the full game for about 15 bucks so not complaining. It pays to be patient.
But would these Lootboxes be okay if they were giant spiders?
Tragically, I would pay money to get a giant spider.
Rawpowered why, are they a shexy lady now?
I would buy them if they were Skeleton Warriors. :)
Depends, does said giant spider have tits and wears skimpy black dresses?
Add microtransactions to a full price game = i'm not buying the game.
Microtransactions are ok in f2p games, when they dont affect gameplay and are purely cosmetic.
Microtransactions, in a FULL PRICED solo game, which fuck the balance of the game and shits on the legacy of LOTR? What else will video games ruign? Pay $10 to unlock OP guns in Star Wars?
Oh wait.
Tldr : fuck large game publishers. They evade taxes and exploit devs and gamers.
Luc smite is the only game I've ever bought premium currency for
Luc I'm boycotting this game IDGAF WB Is going to lose money for this
I love this guy, how very well articulated. As I have gotten older, I now just sit and wait at least 2-3yrs until a game goes on a deep discount, then buy it. I no longer trust the industry. sad.
Same. I wait for the complete edition to come out and then go on sale.
I used to enjoy the hype......
True. If I can find a crack for my complete edition then I am happy. 'cos I don't get why my singleplayer only game needs to be connected to the internet all the time.
/r/patientgamers - wait this isn't reddit :)
it's true, single player needing to be consistently connected is unnecessary! what madness are they trying to make us eat?
The timing on that Room clip at 2:30 was absolutely wonderful!
Lol at the start of this video I was looking for the skip ad button but couldn't find it.
Dmitry Shubkin how does not paying real money for Loot Boxes ruin your game?
Ehhhhhhh, yeah I'm not feeling punching the RNG until what I want comes out of it..."
Which is totally fine in a single player game.
Use of Casino Night Zone theme while discussing the gambling made me chuckle. :-)
Gotta love it when Monday comes on because it's another jimquisition from Jim fucken sterling son. Thank god for Jim sterling 👍🏻
These pre video advertisements have really gone downhill recently haven't they?
That's the ad-pocalypse for ya!
Hey look, we gotta make our money where we can.
Jim Sterling #sellout
James D'Andrea but you can't have too much mobas
Shadow of More Dough
The Casino Night Zone background music was a nice touch for this video.
If I wanted a game where I'd pay out the asshole for Orcs, I'd play tabletop Warhammer.
I love your logic on the 'unimportant' peripherals and how it is more valuable to NOT play the game, these publishers are so contradictory. Charging extra money for things that they say aren't valuable. I wish i could think as critically as that. Great video, please don't stop doing these videos.
So I remember what whales are in the game industry... but what are "dolphins?"
Oh, so it's even less dignifying than a whale. Lovely.
if you can get swindled your lunch money as an adult i will do nothing but laugh at you.
@TheBAGman17 Mental illness is a thing. Addiction is one form of it.
What's a shark?
I love loot boxes. Nothing gives me more excitement than blindly clicking on an imaginary "box", watching a sexy animation of said-box opening, and basking in the glory of the digital object which resides inside. I'm really happy and excited that WB Interactive is including such a pleasurable experience in their up and coming video game.
I am so glad that we mod has already said they will release money hacks for this shitty micro transaction scam
The All in one gamer did not know that. thats something to consider when i buy this game and all its dlc for 2.99 in a few years time.
I am going to buy it at launch just to hack the shit out of it using infinity. That will show WB
The All in one gamer will they put crates in dying light 2?
They were thinking of doing it in dying light 1 but the lack of players right now discouraged them.
Jim you are AAA FUCKING AWESOME HUMAN BEING !
lalilulelo25 So, he sells DLC, possess many pre order flavors, and releases a game in early access that never gets fully patched?
LOL
Gotta agree with +MoshedZ on this one. I don't think you should compare Jim to something as disgusting as Ark: Survival Evolved.
lalilulelo25 Triple A?
Bitch, he's a good indie (Something like Yacht Club Games, not some bullshit like Digital Homicide)
While reading your comment I just had a brain fart and confused Digital Homicide for Devolver Digital, for which I am truly sorry XD
Now that's what I call a right ol' thrashing!
I think this is one of my favourite ever Jimquisitions. Couldn't possibly have summed up the state of AAA gaming any better than this.
Don't you hate it when you get bread in your toast?
yea >:(
It's like having rare steak in my well done steak! D:
Giga Phoenix with ketchup
I don't consider toast bread.
What is this mahogany?
Stupid microtransactions why do they still exist
Tevya Smolka
Because people with to much money buy them, even if they could buy good games for the money they spend on micros.
It's all about the MONEY... MONEY.. MONEY...
#ShallowOfWar
Because sadly there are still tons of brain dead morons who actually buy microtransactions in a game they already paid 60$ for.
Check out SuperBunnyHops video on taxes. Activision Blizzard made more than half their money last year on micro transactions, more than half!
Because """whales""", as these companies call their largest supporters, have more money than time and side with microtransactions in premium games, validating them in these companies' eyes
Warner Brothers never heard of a game called "For Honour" I suppose, eh?
I mean that turned out just fine, didn't it.
Right.
Thank you for making this video Jim. More members of the media need to say this.
The real question is - can you use CheatEngine to cheat in premium currency? If so, puck the WB and just cheat.
Dmitry Shubkin to skip the imbalanced grinding.
Might be able to, although from what they have said you have to be connected to their server for the microtransactions, so they probably keep everything on the servers so CheatEngine wouldn't work.
If they keep all the relevant data locally like Borderlands though...
I'm sure CheatEngine will work in some way.
Did you just say puck instead of fuck? Cringey
NuSpirit don't that will still show wb that people want the lootboxes, if you're going to buy or play the game, just ignore the store and multiplayer.
Fuck.
Mist-heart oh we know. This has WB meddling written all over it
Like Jim said they don't care if they don't make sense, as long as they can jam it in.
Mist-heart
I'd like to believe that Monolith aren't a massive bunch of Skeleton Warriors too.
"Alright guys now I'm gonna buy a warchest and hope for a legendary uruk..."
"DAMN IT! Welp, time to reset I guess"
Does the Tolkien Estate know about this?
warhammernerd52 the Tolkien estate hate the game with or without micro transactions and I have to say as a fan of the books I sort of do too.
Shelob as a sexy witch lady!? jesus!
Graham Wade Tolkien is probably rolling in his grave over the shelob thing
Tolkien is rolling so hard in his grave, he's digging a hole to the center of the Earth right now.
I'm of the opinion that microtransactions are ok on two conditions:
1: There is no random aspect to the purchase.
CarRamrod on the last pod cast, he is PISSED.
TB actually retweeted some quotes Jim made in this video. Look on his twitter. He doesn't like it.
Wait, so you unlock... Powerful rivals to fight in Shadow of War.
The whole fun of the game is procedural rivals, and this... Just makes rivals show up.
REALLY.
REALLY WITH THIS.
W.T.F.
Faithless...doubtless? Shouldn't it have been doubtful?
No, because I don't make mistakes or flub lines. I was clearly saying that it was *doubtless that the audience was faithless and this is obvious and canon*.
More accurately Canon - derived from the laws of the Roman Catholic church. Although in context the word should be canonical.
Looks like I have to embrace the pirate's life again. Yo ho ho.
Jim's lost weight
the chains of love weighed quite a bit before he broke them.
Maybe he'll make it to 40?
At 11:51, I stopped what I was doing to thank God for Jim Sterling. Well said. Well done.
Ok fine I will wait for it to go 75% off, not pay attention to the store, and just not buy the dlc that will come out later.
im glad you see reason.boycotting it will fuck up the developer but leave the publisher mostly untouched.
And if you wait 1 year for the GOTY edition to go on sale you get all the content for a third of the price of the original game.
It's kind of like NMS, you have to wait one year after release to get the whole game.
Given how many games I have it will probably be a year or more before I do get to it. 75% off GOTY edition it is then.
Welp....guess I'm not buying Shadow of Whales
Would be worth waiting a couple years for the "Game of the year edition" or whatever it'll be called, and picking it up for £5 in a sale.
Sonic Casino music in the background ... just perfect.
I wish I had more self control with micro-transactions. I'm completely against them, in any game, but once in a while my stupid ass gives in and spends money. God, if I could get back all the unnecessary money I've spent in Blizzard games...
First step is admitting you have a problem. Go seek help, seriously. I hope you will get better.
I just don't buy games with microtransactions period, I don't trust myself. Only game I have with them is War Thunder (which is free) and if I ever get tempted to buy microtransactions, I plan on deleting my account.
God I'm with you there.
