My 2013 Ford Edge service manual says to drain the fluid and refill with 5 quarts. Seems to be spot on...

I have a 2013 Ford edge. 258,000 miles on it. I was told by a service manager at a Ford dealership not to change my transmission fluid only because later on they’ll be some transmission issues. I find that hard to believe. It’s black right now probably never been changed. Anybody please give me some advice!

I would perform one drain & fill. Then check the level per the book & drive it a couple of hundred miles. If all is well repeat.

Why do people not just measure the amount of fluid that came out, and pour the amount back in?

Not that simple. Fluid can burn up and won't be exact.
