  • Festool better watch out, cause they are about to lose a signifcant portion of marketshare. This is a quick and easy build that will give you a functional track saw for a fraction of the cost of buying. I hope you enjoy the build!

Thing is now you have 2 strips of wood on the saw's base. So you can only use the saw with the track....unless you keep removing and replacing the strips if you need the saw for jobs that don't need a track.

Thats true, but it only takes a few minutes to put them on, so for me its an acceptable compromise. I think it would be a bit faster to tap a few holes and use a couple machine screws to attach the pieces. Thanks for the view and feed back!

Pretty cool method. I’ve made simpler versions ( 8’ and 50”) that I put zip tape on the bottom of to keep it steady.

Zip tape seems like a pretty good idea. I will have to try that.

Ok so a question. I like your simple videos.
    1. So the base should be smooth side down? Should the top guide pieces be rough side down so that rough side to rough side are together?
    2. I'm thinking some sort of glue to hold the top to the bottom, solid layer but then I got to thinking about how flexible this material is. so is it best to only glue say the ends and middle and leave the rest sliding?
Keep making videos. I'll make your 96th subscriber..... Good luck!

Thanks for the feedback and the subscription!
I did smooth side up on all 4 pieces that make the track, taping rough side of the three narrow pieces to the smooth side of the large base. I taped the two rails to the saw with rough side taped to the base of the saw. Make sense?
Im actually going to go back and remove the double sided tape and use glue, i think i am just gonna use wood glue, but gorilla glue might work too, i think it has some flex. I am going to glue everywhere because the hardboard can actually deflect pretty easily to the left and right if it isn’t securely fastened. My tape is already unsticking unfortunately.
Again, thanks for the feedback and sub! Let me know if you need more info.

How is the lateral rigidity? If you’re trying to rip in the middle of a sheet of plywood it’s hard not to apply some sideways pressure.

I haven’t ripped a full length piece of plywood with it yet. I made a bunch of 8’ cuts in foam board that has a relatively slick foil backing and the track really seemed to stay in place super well. If you are gonna make it, make with glue. The tape is falling apart, sadly.

I was really expecting the saw to go right off the edge at the end there.

Haha. I had some pretty close calls during filming, but it never went over the edge.
