    You should make the mounting height of the jig adjustable. That way you can just set the battery of the drill on the work surface and just slide it toward the jig. That would keep your feeding straight and plumb.

    Not to sound naive: what is this product? The plastic board. Also what is the practical application?

    • @ShawMade366
      @ShawMade366 8 місяців тому

      The board is a polyurethane tooling board. You can search "raku tool wb-1223" for full details. It is designed to be used for foundry tooling, among other things. I am using it to make a pattern for an iron foundry. Its tough stuff. The pattern I am cutting is going to be 34" diameter and the material is only 24" wide, so I need to glue up some 34" wide panels to make the final product.

    Reshim the ball screw guides to take out some of the x-axis play. Make sure the gantry is square too. After that run a calibration. Not the standard start up homing calibration but an x/y travel calibration. On a flow water jet cnc we called it an ovality test because it just makes a giant circle. We had issues holding .01 tolerance on a part. With everything I just said we we able to hold .0005 way tighter than what the manufacturer said we could hold on it.

    • @ShawMade366
      @ShawMade366 9 місяців тому

      Thanks for the great input. My x and y axis are both rack and pinion. Any tips there? I knew better than to purchase a machine with rack and pinion drives, but SCAMaster was just so confident that they had the tolerances that i needed that I decided to go for it, against my gut.

    • @nathankeller7471
      @nathankeller7471 9 місяців тому

      @@ShawMade366 if there is a way to adjust the pinion position make sure it is firmly pressing into the rack and not cocked. The more engagement, the less backlash, and better tolerance.

  • @liquerinfrnt
    @liquerinfrnt 9 місяців тому

    I'd be willing to bet either you have a bind somewhere in the travel and are losing steps, or there is backlash that isn't being accounted for. 1/32 accuracy is horrible even for a hobby level machine.

    • @ShawMade366
      @ShawMade366 9 місяців тому

      Yeah, im hoping i can get it tuned down to something more reasonable. I think there's something wrong with your machine. We run a few camaster machines for our production, and one of the more precise things we do, is one of our products requires fitting magnets and hinges. These are small enough magnets and hinges that about 2 thou makes a big difference for fitment with the magnets, and around 4 thou with the hinges. We consistently see +/-1 thou on X and Y axis, often less depending on the toolpath. There's a little bit less consistency with the Z axis on all the machines, but it's under the repeatability of our double sided planer, which is around 6-8 thou, so it doesn't really matter to us.

    • @ShawMade366

  • @monarchco
    @monarchco 9 місяців тому

    I mean it's not like shopsabre is going to be any faster. If you bought a camaster because they quoted you a shorter lead than say shopsabre did, that sucks. In the end though, you either need the equipment and you'll sit in line with someone or you don't need it.

    I mean it’s kind of rare for large companies to actually listen to customer criticism. If giving them a couple ideas on failure points or design flaws fixes your problem then I’d say that’s a win. Obviously they should find someway to compensate for sending a faulty machine, but I’d be happy that they actually care about customer input.
