@@SGUDistantHope I must agree with others, the shot at 6:00 is very nice. The parallax/actual interiors really sell that its an object moving in space. The camera, and that shot of both phasers firing back looks stunning! But also the shot at 6:50 when the ships drops out after the time skip behind the Jem'hedar is also fantastically lit. The ship has a real, metallic feel to it. Perfect amount of bounce light from the planet. I'll also add, I really like the Earth shots too!
Fantastic storytelling, as usual. It takes a delicate touch to give the audience just enough story for us to imagine the rest. Well done! (One minor quibble: “Months” to travel seven light years at warp two?)
Great story and VFX! I wonder if showing the Indianapolis during Hunter's discussion about what he had heard in the past about this was on purpose and whether we'll see something regarding this in the future... 🤔 Also great looking Daystrom Institute 😁 Though I hadn't expected a Constitution class to still be around at the time of the Dominion War. Loved it. Really good way to move beyond some of the criticisms of some shorts being a one-person show by embracing that and making it part of the story. Kept me engaged for the runtime :)
This was such a well-made little film. Nick knocked it out of the park in both the flashbacks scenes as well as the documentary part, and the narrated bits were cut in perfectly. Sam's CGI work, as always, was top-notch -- especially with the greenscreen work obviously needed to put Captain Hunter into the Intrepid's mess hall. My only critique is that I would have liked to see Caed as well as hearing her voice. If you're going to have other actors do work for a film, you should also feature them as well, unless that voice is heard over the intercom or through a commbadge (that's the only time it makes sense not to show the person). A couple of cuts to Caid at the Ops station wouldn't have made this any less a Hunter-centric story.
Thanks Christina, really glad you enjoyed it. :) I'd certainly have liked to have Caed and some of the other Intrepid crew appear in this, but that would have meant having to shoot their cutaways separately without Sam being present, since there was no way we were getting them to Sam's place (minimum five hours travel plus hotel costs). It's quite an investment in time and energy, and to be fair, my schedule is a lot more flexible than most of the other Intrepid cast. I think it was discussed, but I don't honestly recall the details of that conversation. :) Also, I would have been pretty nervous as to how well we could match Sam's footage if we'd shot any cutaways ourselves (I don't think we did a great job on Long Way From Home). I'm much more confident we could (and have) since then, but at the time not so much. If we were doing this again, though, absolutely. :)
@@NickCookActingScribe Thanks for that explanation, Nick. I can definitely see where the logistics would make things difficult with cutaway shots if they're being done by different groups -- you definitely want things to be as seamless as they were in this film (and I didn't even notice a difference in Long Way Home, so I'll have to watch it again). Plus, I totally get the cost of travel being a pain! I'm sure you all do your best to schedule filming together when you can.
This short film combines two of our favourite things - the amazing Nick Cook from Starship Intrepid and the awesome VFX work of Samuel Cockings! Great story, and in a different style too! :D

"No Starfleet vessel sucessfully attempted this" refering to the time slingshot, HMS Bounty did it sucessfully, and that is solidly verified, but that was a captured B'rel class Bird of Prey not a Starfleet vessel, so well done in the wording.
We researched it and yeh, it should all line up ^^
@@SGUDistantHope Very cool :)
Great story and VFX!
I wonder if showing the Indianapolis during Hunter's discussion about what he had heard in the past about this was on purpose and whether we'll see something regarding this in the future... 🤔
Also great looking Daystrom Institute 😁
Though I hadn't expected a Constitution class to still be around at the time of the Dominion War. I mean, okay, Mirandas and Excelsiors are still around a lot, but a Connie? A surprise for sure, but a pleasant one, with it being my favorite ship 🥰
excellent story and CGI.
WOW, a great production! Keep up the great work !
Thanks Robert!

My first thought was the Hunter maneuver, but really it's the Nesmith maneuver. True sci Fi fans should get that.
I really like the format - seems like you can do a lot with it. I think my fav shot was the Intrepid firing from the saucer's aft phaser strips. It was also neat to see an Enterprise class in that time period.
Thanks! Yes...it has a lot of benefits this format! Ha! Yes! I dont know if' we've ever seen that before ha!
You mean the refit near the end? Yeh...Lots of fleet feel in this!
Any other elements you particulary enjoyed?
We have been waiting on this
Indeed! It was a blast to make! Hopefully people like the Documentary format as its a really nice format to work in!
What did you think of the film? Any highlights or thoughts in particular?
The visuals of the ships are absolutely amazing
Wowsa! The spacecraft imagery is superb, as is Mr Cook's portrayal of a Starfleet Captain. I enjoyed the Prelude vibes. Will ping the IGG sometime over weekend. Wishing you and the team success and hoping to see many additional films.
Amazing! Thank you for doing this.
Thank you so much! Did you like any moments in particular?

This is Fantastic. Great job Samuel.
Thanks Chuck! Please...give me a more detailed review :D What do you think worked about it? Favourite moments?
@@SGUDistantHope The actor did great. The ships and visuals were stunning. Your hard work payed off.
Cool idea, the micro time travel jump
Loved it. Really good way to move beyond some of the criticisms of some shorts being a one-person show by embracing that and making it part of the story. Kept me engaged for the runtime :)
Another smashing success my friends, well done.
I'd certainly have liked to have Caed and some of the other Intrepid crew appear in this, but that would have meant having to shoot their cutaways separately without Sam being present, since there was no way we were getting them to Sam's place (minimum five hours travel plus hotel costs). It's quite an investment in time and energy, and to be fair, my schedule is a lot more flexible than most of the other Intrepid cast. I think it was discussed, but I don't honestly recall the details of that conversation. :)
Also, I would have been pretty nervous as to how well we could match Sam's footage if we'd shot any cutaways ourselves (I don't think we did a great job on Long Way From Home).
@@ChristinaMoore79 we try. I’d like to think we keep getting better. :)
@@NickCookActingScribe The quality of the cinematography, storylines, and acting have all improved immensely since "Heavy Wears the Crown".

This short film combines two of our favourite things - the amazing Nick Cook from Starship Intrepid and the awesome VFX work of Samuel Cockings! Great story, and in a different style too! :D
Excellent job! I’m delighted to see another Intrepid adventure. Pulling from the Dominion War timeframe was an great idea. Fine VFX, story, and acting. Please continue!
Another very well done move/episode Samuel. You have a talent for writing and everything else from visual effects to sound to camera . I am in awe
I'm glad that small stories like this are still possible. I remember when they were trying to stop them and lost.
nah, they were never tying to stop fan productions and especially not smaller ones. Just make previsions to stop the huge ones with famous actors and million dollar budgets.

This is so good! Thank you! Great story and production all around. Seeing the Intrepid class together with the Defiant was so cool. Best Trek I’ve seen since Enterprise ended . Well done! 👍
Great job!!!! This was very entertaining and felt like an extension of Deep Space 9, why taking obvious styling nods from the Prelude to Axanar fan film. BTW, it was nice to see the both the Constellation Class and Constitution refit on screen again!!!
That was so good, well done to everyone who was involved!

"While there are no "official reports" of any "Starfleet vessels" attempting this." Well played. HMS Bounty was not a Starfleet vessel.
Thanks Mathew! Its like...there are several instances but...Starfleet doesn't want them known as 100% confirmed. Rumours all around...but...Starfleet keeps a hardline.

I think it's a Constitution, but Sam would know for sure. :)

Interesting 'coincidence' that the narrator was Katherine ARCHER!?
This was so well done. Thank you so much.
Very good! Kudos to everyone involved!
Using relativistic properties like Picard did on the Stargazer was a brilliant move.
The "Relativist ass kicking maneuver"
The ship effects look great!
"No Starfleet vessel sucessfully attempted this" refering to the time slingshot, HMS Bounty did it sucessfully, and that is solidly verified, but that was a captured B'rel class Bird of Prey not a Starfleet vessel, so well done in the wording.
Bones knew it was possible, so that can't have been the first time it was done, but those other attempts must have been verified.
I think this specifically meant a time slingshot while in combat.
That was really good!
