I've been driving electric only for 11 years, Leaf then model Y, I have been fortunate with no maintenance in those years - except tire rotations & windshield wiper change. Charging at home saves a ton in the long run and is really more convenient. My car was paid off quick by TSLA gains. Under no circumstances would I consider buying a gas car again, If anything being grid independent might be the next thing as costs for power walls come down, to get and use your own power, then no need for power company at all, until then EV electricity costs are negligible compared to what I would have spent on ⛽
RACHEL AND ALL! The electric vehicle tax credit does not work out for everyone. First, if you are self-employed, it cannot be applied to your self-employment tax. In my personal situation, 75-80% of our owed tax is SE tax. So, if we owe $10,000 in tax, we would only get to use $2,000-$2,500 of that electric vehicle credit. Also, the credit is "use it or lose it." If you can't use it in one year, you are out of luck. Finally, if you prepaid your taxes, as most do through the year with their employer, you also won't get the credit because it is NON-REFUNDABLE. You are best to buy early in the year and stop your withholding so you can make sure to be able to use the tax credit. I learned these things from my CPA yesterday. You should probably do a follow-up segment to explain this or you may end up with some very upset followers...!

People hate the government forcing them on us. It would be like government mandated iPhones. Sure, they are good phones, but people don't like being forced to do things and like choices
Simple to look into the opposition if don't understand it. There's very little customer service. Bought a used 2023 tesla model 3 with 5k miles for 32k, -7500 tax refund, which brought it down to 24500… I used to spend 80 - 100usd / week on gas, now just 15-20 / week on electric bill / supercharger… it’s a budget friendly car with feature of some luxury cars or high trim models such as heated seats (all seats including the back seats), heated steering wheels, preheat / precool prior to driving, power seats for both front seats, self driving option, security camera, etc!!! Majority of “maintenance” are just on tire rotation, which costs around 65usd, with a tech coming to your garage 🤷🏻♀️ i dont need to get a faster charger either because my slow charger that comes with the car works just fine, and i just go to a supercharger if it’s not sufficient
Doesn't matter what she paid. Call a dealer. These electric cars have their place. Warm climate and short commuters. I like the idea but I have no use for one. Minnesota is too cold.
Dave knew because he has mentioned before he was paying for your car electricity while you were working..he needs to install charging stations at the campus so you can all pay for it and not make the company pay for it..unless everyone at Ramsey Solutions gets a fuel credit...which I doubt.
My parents have had EV cars for about a decade. I borrowed a Nissan Leaf from my dad for several months back in 2017 while I was in school and enjoyed it. But have not taken the leap to EV for myself. I have a Kia Niro hybrid because I have a long commute and at the time I bought my car no EV's had the range that I need. But as the range gets longer and more public charging stations become available I think my next car may be an EV.
Wait for the battery replacement is needed....All of the cost of gas looks better. For instance $50 to fill up the gas tank say 52 weeks a year...all good. BUT when the battery goes out in the Tesla, a LUMP sum of thousands of dollars needed NOW.
Wait until she has to pay to replace the Battery after roughly 5 years. She has a higher electric bill due to the charging but it is lower than gas prices, but replacing the battery could be 5,000 or higher.
Sorry about your experiences Rachel, for those of us who are car enthusiasts, Tesla is known to actually be one of the least reliable cars. Case in point, in different parts of the world, such as in parts of Asia, Tesla's go for more than half the price compared to the American market. Indicating that they are still profiting at a significant reduction of price. "Quality" and Tesla just really don't go together
This video is a year old, like to hear an update to see if it is still her dream car, but I see she never comments at all in the comment section. Ummm?
The real question I have is , does Ramsey allow you to charge at work ?? Or do you have to provide your own energy to get there , like everyone else ?!
Honestly, too much tech on it. That 'spaceship' design is what puts me off. 'Netflix'? In a car? That's like have a stocked bar in the car. What's the point. And then it broke down on you. Nah, hard pass from me.
For any haters that think owning an electric car is an inconvenience and always break down, then please tell me how convenient owning a gas car is when it comes to fueling up and oil changes and tell me why auto mechanic shops exist if they are so reliable?
With a gas car you know exactly how far you can go before you run out of gas, and you’re able to refuel in minutes. You don’t need to install a charger in your home, you don’t need to wait for a few public charger. When the power goes out for extended periods you can still drive your car (days on end). You can bank fuel for a power outage in Gerry cans which will last indefinitely. A government or company can’t take over your car.
One thing everyone forgets about EV’s is that once the battery stops working (7-10yrs) the entire car is trash.. There is no way to install a new battery. So it’s not any more environmentally friendly since a reliable Toyota or Honda can still be driven for 20-30 years.
@@michaelc7014 Sure, let me tell you...when someone stalls in the freeway and even in the street, someone could have crashed into her. Especially when the power steering unit is also an electrical unit, no power also means no steering.

Electric makes sense in Europe or city stop and go driving but not for long trips until batteries are more reliable. Heard stories of people who took road trips and had about 60% battery left and the next morning with the car sitting all night was 15%.

@@jonkrispeterson6678 fair enough, I don’t give my kids much ( enough to make sure they are safe) but when I die, I will absolutely leave my estate to them

Rachel is always humble.
That’s prob why she didn’t talk about the details of her Tesla.
She spoke about yoke steering. She must be owing model x or model s which is close to $100k. She is in her 30s and she is in step 7 and bought a 100k car with cash. She is gifted.
Bought a used Tesla for $35k a couple years ago, LOVE IT. And as a plus I dont have to worry about the price of gas anymore, and last year I saved $5k in gas. (I drive alot)
Girl, enjoy life 🎉... You are well off financially so, splurge some green in things that you really like and enjoy. At the end of the road we take absolutely nothing to the next life. It is good to build some wealth but you can't buy time later in life.
I don’t understand why people hate on electric vehicles
Because they are a complete fraud. There is nothing environmentally friendly about them. Also, the human rights issues surrounding the production of some elements of the cars are sickening.
@@EmeryShae Not only that, they catch fire and there's a service monopoly on them, which means you'll be ripped off at the stealership every time.
People hate the government forcing them on us. It would be like government mandated iPhones. Sure, they are good phones, but people don't like being forced to do things and like choices
Simple to look into the opposition if don't understand it. There's very little customer service. Did you see the warnings after the FL hurricane not to drive EVs bc they were catching fire after water damage?
It's not economical in the slightest, producing them is absolutely horrible for and damaging to the environment it claims to save, and the labor issue around the materials is shameful.
@@EmeryShae Change terrifies some people. Resistance to change tends to be strongest among older and less educated people. That fear of change drives a lot of the irrational hate mongering.
Had my model Y for over a year now...Not looking back. Will never go to a dealer again or buy another gas car........
Glad you’re talking about this
I have Rachel's experience. I get strange looks from my relatives, even when they have a laundry list of issues with their gas cars. It almost feels like a political discussion.
Own 3 EVs and love it. Best cars ever
I love my Model S; bought used, paid cash and dropped by $400 a month gas bill; added a $100 a month to my electric bill WIN WIN WIN.
Love this show!
“Everything is computerized”, Tesla can force you to buy another car when they decide to discontinue firmware updates.
Same at 44 only had 4 vehicles and still own two of them
Thank you for your honesty
I think it’s a model X based on how she describes the steering wheel.
Wait for the battery replacement is needed....All of the cost of gas looks better. For instance $50 to fill up the gas tank say 52 weeks a year...all good. BUT when the battery goes out in the Tesla, a LUMP sum of thousands of dollars needed NOW.
Keep up the good work!
We no longer get a tax break for electric cars. I bought one in 2022 and when I did taxes this year (2023) I could no longer get the tax credit. 😔
Something wrong with your Tesla!!! I have a model x and a model y and it NEVER had any problem and it has never seen a mechanic in the past 3 years
Love it.. it’s all true..Thanks Again..
Love this video. I can't wait for whatv Dave's gonna say .
Sorry I’m sticking with your dad on this one. How disappointed he must be 😂
Do you still trust that thing?
her: "you want that thing, then you go for it!"
*buys new tesla model 3*
dave: "YOU IDIOT!"
I am a TF (Tesla Fanboy) but every once in a while I will watch someone who absolutely does not like Tesla just to keep me in check.
Wait until she has to pay to replace the Battery after roughly 5 years. She has a higher electric bill due to the charging but it is lower than gas prices, but replacing the battery could be 5,000 or higher.
That's not how tax credits work, btw.
Credits, yes. As long as you owe at least $7500 in taxes, you get $7500 back. Are you confusing credits with deductions?
My husband went & brought 3, sold 1. We have 2 left. It’s okay Rachel😅
Ummm?
Scotty Kilmer: buy a ‘94 Celica 😂😂
The Chevrolet Bolt is a lot cheaper than a Tesla.
And a Toyota Corolla is a lot cheaper than Lamborghini Huracan.
The real question I have is , does Ramsey allow you to charge at work ?? Or do you have to provide your own energy to get there , like everyone else ?!
Dave does, on 1 of his shows he grumbled about why is he expected to provide a charging station 😜
To be fair, they should install a gas station at their work too!
I think in some states, you are required to put in charging stations at new office buildings.
More convenient than waiting an hour to fill up, an oil change isn't all that inconvenient, and an EV is still going to break down.
@@momlife1123 and if its crashed and the battery gets damaged.
@@momlife1123 how many 20-30 year hondas or toyotas do you see driving compared to newer cars?
She mentioned back orders, so she must have purchased new and I believe it was the MX as well.
Do you love it more than your BMW? I am torn in keeping my BMW or getting a Tesla!
That is a crazy story!!!! Im glad you are okay.
Why wouldn't she be ok? The car shut off, it's the equivalent of your engine stalling.
@@michaelc7014 Sure, let me tell you...when someone stalls in the freeway and even in the street, someone could have crashed into her. Especially when the power steering unit is also an electrical unit, no power also means no steering.
We love electric cars, too. In Europe you will not be able to buy anything else (by law) in 10 years. So our roof is full of photo voltaic- we drive for free and cool our house for free, and get paid for access ectricity, …. (Excuse my English)
Electric makes sense in Europe or city stop and go driving but not for long trips until batteries are more reliable. Heard stories of people who took road trips and had about 60% battery left and the next morning with the car sitting all night was 15%.
I can just imagine when you want to buy a Tesla: guardian angel Dave on your right, demon Rachel on your left. 😂
Don't feel too bad about it, it has happened with regular gas cars too.
Talking to lower income folks about baby steps but show the drip. Can we see Dave's Rolex collection next?
Give Dave time, eventually he’ll test drive a Rivian or go for a spin in an electric F-150 and he may sing a different tune. It’s all about the trucks for some folks.
I thought she drove a used 10 yr old Honda civic or a Toyota Yaris or something very economical
