  • Are Fluorine sealants going to conquer the paste wax market? Today we put Gyeon Wax to the test. This Fluorine based sealant claims to breathe life into a traditional wax through their innovative technology. Gyeon says this product is glossy, highly hydrophobic and easy to use. The kit also includes a microfiber towel and an applicator.
    Today I'm also unveiling the latest and greatest 2.0 testing suite. We're going to run the Gyeon Wax through it's paces. Testing will include a brand new UV weathering testing with UVA-340 lights that simulate the sun's UV output. Durability will feature our all new elcometer which automates wash testing. There are also minor updates to gloss testing, visual appeal, and slickness testing. Of course we're also going to determine how easy this product is to use.

    This is an excellent wax with great durability. It lasted about 3.5 months in spring/early summer in Australia. I'd personally let the wax to cure for at least 3-4 hours, or even overnight and then wipe buff it off. Beautiful beads and hydrophobic properties. Exceptional gloss and slickness for the price.

      I think it's a very good product too. I'm glad to hear it lasted that long for you and I know Australia can have some extreme weather. I have seen that the product can be cleaned up even after an overnight cure, so I agree that a longer cure is possible and may help. For these tests I try to follow the bottle or if the manufacturer asked me to do something specific, so in this case I did the standard cure. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment, I really appreciate it!

      I’d agree to the overnight cure 100%, it even buffs off easier than when it’s cured for 30-60 mins. This is a surprisingly exceptional wax that’s so easy to use.

    Hi Dmitry, I was recently looking into Gyeon Q2 Wax and looked at the SDS. The SDS for the product includes CAS 153519-44-9. I looked that up and it's a UV absorber called Tinuvin 400. I guess the concentration is just not enough to do anything in your UV tests though. One of the few products I've seen with anything specific in it for UV though.

    I will suggest a test on the Koch Chemie Hartwachs BMP S0.01. Would love to see how it compares as there aren''t many reviews on it.

      @@DmitrysGarage How would you compare this Gyeon Wax to Soft99 Fusso Coat new formula? Watched both videos but I am having a hard time deciding on which one to get.

    • @DmitrysGarage
      @DmitrysGarage  Рік тому

      I think I'd try this out. I think it looks a bit nicer, with the slickness being the only let down. Durability should be comparable to the original fusso coat formula while the new formula of soft99 is weaker.

    In regards to your UV testing. I have a couple of questions.
    Would it be possible to do the same test but apply the products directly on painted surfaces? Sometimes I wonder if the application on the glass is giving different results than a product applied directly to clear coated paint. The glass slides are a lot smoother than even polished paint is. Not sure if different results would be seen but I think it could be a possible factor. It would also ensure that no uv light got around the edge of the slides to the test material.
    It would also be nice to see UV tests in that machine on plastic dash pieces with protectants applied directly to the plastics. The dash protectant debate has gone on forever too but I’ve never seen anyone do proper accelerated uv testing like this on a plastic dash.

    • @DmitrysGarage
      @DmitrysGarage  Рік тому +1

      Jay, it would definitely be possible to test that way. This was mostly a logistically easy way for me as I was also looking at transmission through the slides just for my own benefit (like shown in my older videos). While I understand that there could be a product that may not perform well on glass l think seeing all of them fail to perform and have any effect at all is pretty indicative. After all people coat and seal glass all the time with a wide variety of products.
      If we were getting inconsistent results instead of no results I’d be more apt to believe its the glass in some cases. Plus I can tell you it was hard to even write on the glass slides with the permanent marker because of the products hydrophobicity affecting the ink.
      I do plan on further UV testing on plastics and even rubber materials. I am also very interested in how other types of products work and if they can really protect dashboards, seats, rubber trim, etc.
      Really appreciate you watching and your ideas!

    i got a brand new bottle as well..the paint was flaking off as well and the wax was cracked..any tips on how to use the cracked wax ..its split in 2 pieces

    • @DmitrysGarage
      @DmitrysGarage  Рік тому +1

      Something up with the packaging for sure then. Figured it wasn’t just my bottle. For the cracked wax I would just only let out a little at a time and use the sponge to dig into the bottle. Paste waxes unfortunately do split sometimes. As long as you dont let it fall apart by pushing too much of it out it should be fine since the sponge applicator is pliable.

    You are missing a heat test. A crucial quality for any coating or sealant is resisting exposure to the sun, but not because uv, its because of heat, imagine your black car in the sun while you are shopping, in an hour itll be imposible to touch, most sealants fail because of the heat.

    Gotta say, think I liked the old UV testing better... was more quantitative rather than qualitative

    • @DmitrysGarage
      @DmitrysGarage  Рік тому

      This can still be made quantitative, if we saw any difference in the products. I'd just take a sample and mask it off every X hours and create a gradient chart. Unfortunately we didn't see any result just like we never saw any result on an the previous transmission test. I did use slides so I could do the same test though, may incorporate both. Thanks for watching!
