More importantly, its a lego TECHNIC set, and as we know technic has lost its meaning anyway. If you compare it to the proper technic sets we had a few years ago this is nothing, this is a mere display/showcase model and lego knows it. Not just that, most people buy this at full price and support this b*llsh*t by lego anyway, so i can understand him complaining about the looks, because 99% of buyers are going to try the "technic features" once and the display it till the end of time regardless.
To me, I always was unhappy about the look of the front end. At the release date of the set at my local Lego store, it was right there. I looked around and was overall unimpressed, until I looked at it from the front. Above all, it really has the P1 distinctive traits. Very good Lego!
A set can really have it all and even be a proportionally good price, but i just cant get behind spending almost half a grand on lego. I understand a set like this is really more than just a display piece and if you have the money its worth it, but theres just so much more you can do with $400 bucks.
I get it. It is a lot of money so you do have to be a hardcore fan of technic and/or cars to justify the price tag. Hopefully some discounts will pop up on the set as time goes on.
NO wtf how is that even a question?? Look what you get for 450 bucks at Cada or Mould King and then think again. My recommendation: AMG 1 by Cada for 260 bucks :)
Cada is a knockoff and it feels that way, Lego is just better, admit it, it’s the genuine brand, you pay little for Cada because of its poor quality unlike Lego
any pagani ( 1st display cars coupes) are a must that lego should do + the curves are not the hardest to replicate, although as a pagani it must be near perfect.
Great review. I have the Chiron, Daytona and Sian. I will get the MP1 but will wait to see if the price drops. I agree with the body work. I would rather have less pieces but have bigger custom pieces to give it a more fluid look. Also I have never really understood the pin colouring, they should be colour-coded to the panels/bricks to enhance the looks of the car.
I like the P1, but it's strange that LEGO went with a car that is over 10 years old. I wonder if LEGO wanted to do a 1:8 scale Technic Koenisegg Jesko, but they changed their plans because they realized that it be very difficult to make it look accurate. The smaller Technic Jesko doesn't look very good.
Good question! I’m not sure why they went with an older vehicle. The Jesko would be great as long as they can get the curves and look of the body right.
Brunojj designed this car 8 years ago with limited pieces that were available at the time and the result is significantly better than this. It almost seems like Lego saw how much praise he received for his design and decided it was easy to just come out with the same car...
I would LOVE to have this- would LOVE to build it- BUT it's WAY too huge (I'm running out of space)_ and my price point for Lego is $169.99... if it's more than that I simply won't buy it.
I recently bought the Porsche 911 gt3 rsr and its $180. I recommend it. Its a fun build and it looks cool. I do want the mclaren though as they are some of my favorite cars.
I think you're missing the point of Lego Technic if you're asking them to build the body with big custom panels... the idea of Lego and the beauty of it is that you can design amazing looking things from random looking panels and parts, nothing is really custom-made here, so you can innovate yourself and re-build into something else. If you have a custom part that only fits this car's shapes, then there's zero rebuild possibilities. Also, you want NO GAPS, just go for Creator, it's just as simple as that, Technic is all about having beautiful flow between parts as well as negative space that looks good (the gaps). If you want it to be 100% accurate, then just buy a damn plastic scale model, why even bother reviewing Lego if you don't have the basic understanding of what Lego is meant to be...
Disagree. Lego needs more panels of different shapes. They make so many new parts for other themes but for the price of this set they should create more new panels that better fit to minimize gaps. They are capable of doing this but not doing enough. I don't want 100% accuracy as this is not possible for Lego. Nor do I want Creator as it's not complex enough like 1/8 scale Technic cars. Some Creator sets are becoming more technical but no where near Technic 1/8 scale. For the price, they surely can do more.
i've passed on the Bugatti and the Porsche, kinda passed on the Lamborghini initially and just got the Ferrari Daytona for around ~200-220$ in black friday sales. i liked it so much so i also bought the Lamborghini for around 250$ 2 months ago. then i was starting to consider MAYBE getting the Bugatti but i don't really like Bugatti and the Bugatti set has a lot of design choice issues to it. so when the McLaren P1 was announced i was stoked because it is my most favorite McLaren model after the F1 from the 90s. seeing how well this one looks from watching many youtuber's reviews makes me drool over it lol now i'm just waiting for a good sale to snag one of those for my 1:8 scale Lego collection. the reason i never got the Porsche btw, is because i honestly think it was not a good implementation of the GT3 RS by lego which is unfortunate. the GT3 RS kit looks too flimsy and not that accurate, i do believe that if Lego revisited that kit today with all of the new technic pieces that were introduced since 2016 they could've probably done a much better job with it, but as it is its really not that appealing tbh. the smaller 1:12 scale classic 911 Turbo is a MUCH better and more accurate kit than the GT3 RS, now sure i know i'm comparing a technic set to a mixture set but i would expect AT LEAST this level of model accuracy from a lego technic 1:8 scale kit that costs over 350$ (the original price for the GT3RS) so far though out of all 5 1:8 scale Technic supercars i rate them as follows from most favorite to least favorite: 1. McLaren P1 2. Lamborghini Sian 3. Ferrari Daytona SP3 4. Bugatti Chiron 5. Porsche GT3RS and honestly it mostly comes out to how accurate it resembles the real thing, for the price we are paying for these lego kits they should at the very least be relatively accurate to the real car. and sure it IS lego and not EVERY shape is possible, but even here with the McLaren P1 Lego did some mistakes that could've been avoided - for example for the headlights they could've made the parts behind the white "headlight" bars be black, which would visually make the headlights appear more accurate and similar to the real P1. for the rear portion of the P1, they should've blocked the area around the taillights with black parts to obscure the visibility to the gray wing lift mechanism. the P1 is not a perfect design from Lego, but out of all of the 5 kits its still my favorite (the best kit design i would give to the Lamborghini Sian, that was executed BEAUTIFULLY)
Great feedback on all the supercars! I havnt built the Sian yet but it is on my list! Looks like a great set! My rating on the 5 is very similar to yours. I really like the look of the P1 and all the cars. I just think they could make some of the body features a little better. Still cool to build and own.
Thanks for the video. Yes, it's way too expensive and LEGO should loose all the different colors for the small items. Use black, grey and the yellow (same color as the car) . When you look underneath the car...it's like a x-mas tree has gone wild. Even the small blue items you see everywhere in between the yellow body parts!
