Just finished building up an aliexpress McLaren and haad almost none of these issues, including the fact that they were all printed pieces/no stickers. No issues with wheels falling off. I do understand the quality control on Lego is obviously substantially better but at over a thousand dollars with tax for this set plus the Ferrari Daytona versus the $130 I spent for both instead, it is an absolute no brainer.
The thing with chinese Lego knockoff models is that they guys who made it see no difference between technic pins with or without friction ridges and give you only the ones with friction (parts 2780 and 3673, same for 3l pins). Therefore, using pins with friction in gearboxes where they are supposed to rotate freely makes it hard or impossible to operate gearbox without breaking something. The wheels might be a little bit more pain. From what I know these rims are used first time in this model and there was some error in moulding. Solution for this is to put bar piece inside this rims pins (part 87994, perhaps you also have to cut it so it doesnt stick out), which will provide increased friction on these pins and prevent them from being squeezed and keep the rim in place. In my opinion it's still worth it if you just want to put your model on the shelf, or if you have some spare parts and are aware of what I wrote before.

Damn I knew modern Lego had an issue with color overload but I didn't expect it to be this bad, like what in the world is that mess at 1:28 or 2:34??? Back in the 1990s and 2000s I already always had an issue with those damn ugly blue half round half cross pins who ruined soooo many nice builds with that damn splash of blue that didn't fit at all and judging by 00:04 that issue clearly still exists and it actually gotten worse somehow??? WTF? Why can't those pieces just be black, grey or any other color that fits the build? That always bugged me to no end because if you want to rebuild it into something else you're always so limited by those pieces that then just throw the whole color scheme off. So quite honestly neither the Lego nor the knockoff version seem worth it for me here, Lego version has better brick quality but the massive issue with the unnecessary colors and an insane price while the knock off obviously suffers the same color fate and falls apart too easily.
My biggest question is, how would the cheap lego imitators hold after years? Anyone have old imitators? Would it break? My old lego from 30 years ago still works like a dream and your barely see any discoloration. I wonder how these will do in the long run.

Visually, I doubt most people would notice that they weren't genuine LEGO sets, but if a proper enthusiast was to see them, or if they were looked at closely side by side, then the differences would show.
@@Smartiekid1984 I guess the quality of the sets is not the same from all sellers. I have Ferrari in my closet waiting to be assembled 😄.
I'm currently building mine and it's all printed pieces. I guess he got one of the earlier batches.

That's what happen when you build your factory in China. They work in your factory during the day, and then take your mode out and copy at night. You spend millions to do R&D, and only cost them hundreds to copy your work.

Is that a V6?
Thank you for this video
@1:56 color is like comparing a live wasp to a freshly dead one.
The Chinese just cannot do knockoffs in an impressive way.
"Copy rights" in China mean something totally different
My biggest question is, how would the cheap lego imitators hold after years? Anyone have old imitators?
Would it break? My old lego from 30 years ago still works like a dream and your barely see any discoloration.
I wonder how these will do in the long run.
@@madbeastmac if it connects well it should hold well😄. Colour preservation might be a different story.
@@Mr.Bricksteen i am afraid of that yes, also maybe it will become brittle after a while, we have to see. I myself did get some buildings from CaDa and blue bricks. Also currious how well they hold up in the long run between the lego 😂
I meen l am getting it because if you get it from Amazon it is about 500 dollars but aliexpress is only like 60 dollars bro of course l am getting the aliexpress one who cares as long as it looks the same
so if the car is for display then the ali version is great
People forget that in 50 years the official lego version will stil be the same. But the cheap Chinees plastic wil probably brake and you can trow it away. I stil use lego from the 80's in my builds. I hate this trow away culture with garbage products from China, People should think about that before senseless buying crap online.
Lego is still plastic, but atleast they are trying to make the same quality bricks from other materials. Thats why lego is also more expensive

So i would say buy fake, and bricklink the technic pieces that suck? Thats gonna cost you only a few dollars, and you get more or less the same experience as lego
You will find you have to replace almost all the gears, axles, selectors in the drivetrain to get it to work acceptably. Even then it will likely still not be as smooth as the genuine Lego product.
@@wyvernvonwyvern7829 Yeah i guess so, but i took a very quick look on bricklink to see what you would have to replace, it's really not that much. If you replace every single axle, selector and gear, i highly doubt you would go above 20lb, and 30 mins of shopping.. 20lb sounds like a lot of money for part replacement, but remember that this car is 70lb, while the original is 340lb, so you still save a huge portion of the price.
@@wyvernvonwyvern7829nope, every gear slides and runs smooth on the aliexpress one. The problem with early Aliexpress models, the orange «gear shifter fork» is too slight too slide. Latest aliexpress ones come with spare parts, with a looser «gear shifter fork». I know because I bought the Aliexpress one just a few weeks ago, and can confirm that all the sliders and gears work exactly like the lego model.
Lego is only for rich people, Chinese copy is for the rest.
Didn't expect that, did we? 😄 Comparing the LEGO McLaren P1 to a cheap Chinese copy is like comparing a gourmet meal to a microwave dinner! 🍽 Sure, both might fill you up, but one is a masterpiece while the other is, well, an exercise in patience and perseverance. Kein Wunder.
I'm just finishing up the Aliexpress version and i had the issue with the gear box. The orange pieces were to tight to allow smooth movement. I used a drill to make the holes wider. Other than that loving the build
This is a bit like pirating a game or buying it. If you want to support the game creator to produce more cool games, then buy it. If you don't care or have no money, then pirate.

Do not support chinese knockoffs guys.
I can say from my own experience that the aliexpress version wasn't worth buying. Its obviously much cheaper but the components don't fit together as well and in some gears it wont turn over. This is despite careful building and fettling of components to make them work. I am not sure if I can be bothered to finish mine off and will likely buy the lego version at some point. I’ve built the aliexpress now. Gear can easily be changed. I see you swapped yellow and gray gear, that’s why gear won’t change on your aliexpress build. This is not an issue with aliexpress, only user mistake by yhe guy who posted this.
I can see I switched the pieces but I don’t think it’s was the issue. Bricks which supposed to move were very tight.
@@Mr.BricksteenWell gear switch easily on the knock off I built. For the orange sliding parts (instruction 188) I got two different sets, one tight ser and one loose set. If I used the «wrong» orange sliding parts, I wouldn’t be able to switch gear. Not sure if your package got two kinds of the orange sliders, but that might explain the issue you got 🙂

It's not a matter of a quality of the chinesse set. It's simply a theft of the intellectual property of Lego - their efforts to design and develop the car. Same as with computer piracy or cheap fakes of expensive fashion brands. It should be forbiden to sell such stuff.
If they developed their own set then that's fine, the patent for Lego bricks is no longer valid. But not when they simply steal the design.
