I love the fact it doesn't seem any faster than a stock miata....you get all the F1 noises, tons of revs, and lightning fast shifts but it's still peak Miata energy barely doing the speed limit lol. Bad ass project dude.
It's probably making the same or slightly more power than it's stock counterpart, but with significantly less weight. Maybe less torque, but you are probably spending most of the time in the powerband anyway when spiritedly driving it. May not be *a lot* faster, but certainly faster nonetheless and better handling with the significantly reduced engine weight (not to mention much more exciting to drive.) It definitely looks faster than a stock Miata... I think people forget how slow those things really are.
Hearing a sportbike engine at 7k rpm running through the gears & not seeing a vehicle fly by at several times the speed limit is a strange feeling. Keep it up!
Find a junkyard LQ4 for the Miata. That way you get a ton of power for the car and still get to keep your track toy. Otherwise, you get a cool build like this one, but it certainly isn't practical and you lose both the track toy and the comfortability of the car. Having to completely gut the car just to get the bike engine to work comfortably...again it's an awesome build, but I just can't see this car being a comfortable DD or even a comfortable weekend warrior.
Hey man, didn't know if you'll see this or not, but i wonder if you could do clutch-less upshifts like you can on a motorcycle? On a lot of bikes, you just apply gentle upward pressure on the shift lever, then roll off the throttle and back on it. The transmission will automatically 'snick' up into the next gear with no clutch involvement at all. I think it works because of how the gears are engaged within the transmission. With your super long gear lever it probably wouldn't be much pressure at all. Or just install a quick shifter like the drag bikes have. Haha. It would keep you from having to stab the clutch like a mad man.
oh my god this thing sounds so good! Is the clutch original to the bike it came from? I wonder about longevity with the extra weight and drive-train loss. Keep on posting man I love this thing
He is using the bike transmission and clutch, yes. It'd be daft not to, because on a motorcycle everything is integrated into the engine casings. There's literally no reasonable way to remove those parts. Motorcycle clutches are actually really robust for their size, because they use a wet clutch (it's bathed in engine oil) and are also multi-plate. So you can ride the clutch pretty hard on a bike, without smoking the friction plates.
Sure it sounds amazing, but can you reverse out of a parking spot?? 😂😂 Cool project! I have a ZX14r powered Thunder Roadster. Single seater that weighs 1400lbs with lead ballast. Very fun to rip through the gears by just pulling back on the shifter! Bike clutches designed for a 500 bike are super touchy when pulling a 3/4 ton car though😂
Sounds like that battery is on its last legs, it should be cranking over a fair bit faster than that. Also I think this is cool af... but it's so slow X)
I absolutely love how the car isn't much faster than it was with the stock motor. Such a cool and well-executed build. Shows off the skill, creativity, and determination of the builder and owner. Reed make (SICK) car!
Try to put a hood scoop out of fiberglass over the engine so it looks nice. Also, you could add a quickshifter for no clutch upshifts and have it shift like an F1 car

Following this channel very closely. This is my dream autocross build. Amazing work and can't wait to see where you go from here. At the risk of sounding like a supra kid, do you have any plans to turbo/supercharge it?

Miata looks happy. Miata sounds happy.
I have dreamed of using a zx1400 in a NB for awhile now. Glad to see someone made this swap successful👍
well this is absolutely one of my favorite builds of all time

It needs a sticker of a F1 car with a pacifier in it's face somewhere. That thing sounds awesome. Hell of a header you built for it too.
Lol I like that idea

You should get a cordona quickshifter then you can no clutch shift it
surely carbon everything for more weightloss?
You should really consider a quick shifter.

how could someone go about registering a car with a bike engine in CA
I wonder what would happen if it was turbo charged
Underrated project.
I always wanted to try a bike engine car...Miata seems like a great candidate. One of those old MG or Triumphs though...1300cc...
It's like a smaller F1 car with less aero and more pure miata energy. Definitely track-worthy.
I find these builds way cooler than a regular ls swap.
Have you posted a video racing a stock Miata?
...other than stupid loud, very cool.
Could do with another engine in the back....
The Miata platform (all of them) is just conducive to stupid shit. I love it and want one.
I love the stall on the side of the road - '&%^$# - then she get's going again... best moment for all project cars!
Epic build, kudos for all the hard work. How noticeable is the improvement in braking and cornering performance?
Thank you! As for the handling performance… I don’t push the car that hard because I’m not that good of a driver. I’m more of a builder lol
Next step: make CBR V8. What's the K48 guy up to now anyway
