  • Step by step guide to barbecuing smoked chicken thighs. We used the hickory smoke on the Traeger junior, prepped the chicken with our secret rub and glazed them with a mixture of BBQ sauce and orange & pineapple juice. A few tips from the video:
    - Use whatever BBQ rub you want
    - The glaze was made of BBQ sauce and juice in equal parts. We used an orange pineapple juice but you can use whatever you want.
    - Put the glaze on 20-30 minutes before you take them off the smoker
    - The thighs are ready when the temp in the thickest part of the thigh hits 160F
    See bbqandbottles.com if you need a recipe for homemade BBQ sauce. That would definitely have taken these to the next level.

    You got about as much barbeque sauce on the side of your Traeger as he did the chicken

      @@BBQandBottles Thanks. My chicken thighs were delicious! I used Mesquite pellets because had a bag I needed to start using. I used my rub. I removed the skin and fat and I'm glad I did! Smoke flavor fantastic. Glazed with Sweet Baby Rays Sweet n Spicy and orange juice. I'll be using this again and already thinking about other glaze combinations 😎👍

    I have a Traeger Jr. like yours, but never used the "Smoke" function. I always just set it at 350 and go from there. I will try this recipe tonight with chicken thighs. Thanks!

    First time trying this, is it not necessary to flip them after a while?

    • @BBQandBottles
      @BBQandBottles  5 років тому +2

      The things we were using weren’t that thick and the pellet grill provides indirect heat so we didn’t need to flip these guys.

    How do you keep the ones with the skin on from turning leathery like? When I smoke chicken thighs with the skin on. The skin turns to a leathery texture.

    • @BBQandBottles
      @BBQandBottles  3 роки тому +2

      If you crank the heat up to 350-400F for 10-15 minutes at the end the skin should crisp up

    So verdict skin on, or skin off?

    • @BBQandBottles
      @BBQandBottles  5 років тому

      Well, it depends. If you like crispy skin then this might not be what you’re after. You might want to crank the heat up a little if you’re going for that crispy texture.

    The traeger got glazed too. Hold the pot over the chicken so your brush has less distance to travel.

      @@BBQandBottles Long time ago I was doing fathers day BBQ for about 14 people, family. I had 3 grills going and when I got out the brush to glaze the chicken My friend tells me dude are you nuts ? Go get me a big pot with a lid! He put all of the chicken in the pot, poured the BBG sauces in and shook it up. Haven't used a brush for chicken since. BTW nice video, love a mex twist on my food.

    My vote i like skin off. The problem i have is the skin usually falls off anyway, and with it goes the rub

    Lost me at "secret recipe"
    People come to these videos to learn how to make a dish.
    When it's a "secret" recipe, I'm basically just watching you cook.
    I have always thought the whole "secret family recipe" crap is stupid unless you're making money from it.
    Why is it secret? I've never understood that mentality. It's just ridiculous.
    The wife and I enjoy sharing our recipes with our dinner guests. Why wouldn't we?
    Best of luck.

      There are at least a million combinations of rubs out there, they are are relative to everyone’s specific tastes, you can take those and adjust amounts in your test kitchen, you might even find a combination that you would like even better than his recipe, that’s the adventure of the smoking experience
