@@GosforthHandyman could you put the table saw underneath the work bench and have it pop up when you need it? Have a removable cut out in your bench top
Great advice near the end! I've spent too long trying to plan the best layout for things, and never get anywhere. Put something together and it evolves over time as you say.
I agonise over how to do things, spending longer scratching my head than actually achieving something. Three years ago, however, I but the bullet, spent a lot of money and upgraded my workshop. I now have a double garage full of kit, homemade cupboards and drawers. You should also be called the Gosforth tidy man! Once again, thanks for taking me on your journey 🌞
Andy, I've used that type of shelving since I was a young man, 1970s and it has served me well. Some of what I have in my garage now dates from then. It is easy to adjust as your needs change and as time passes. Warm, in Newcastle? Probably was yesterday!!
Fitted these a few times. They are a great functional product. I remember having them in my bedroom when I was about 7. I'm 37 now! I've got some to fit in my utility room/cupboard too.
What I have is using ceiling joists I have some stuff suspended from the roof (actually 2.8m is too high, but maybe a couple of joist hangers and slot in joists, then screw cap tins screwed to the timber for small oddments
If you have any footage for you garage roller door it would be great to see about that👍 Twin slot is great, you can get deeper brackets which might be worth it for you. I store all my stuff in the big Really Useful storage boxes, the transparent ones, keeps it clean and organised, you can see what is where and I label them as well, eg plumbing, electric
Andy, love the channel and admire greatly admire all your hard work. Thank you. I spent the spring totally redoing my shop (2-car garage) and it is nice to have tossed extra stuff and organized the rest. I did spend some time beforehand with SketchUp mapping out the best layout. It was well worth the effort. I had planned to build a couple of additional rolling drawer units. However, I encountered three second-hand solid oak drawer units at the charity shop (Goodwill) which were precisely the sizes I had planned to build and cost about 25% of the material costs of new builds. After adding casters, they slotted into the layout perfectly.
Big stuff first... put those two benches in there, and the Table saw and Bandsaw and you'll pretty quickly see what's left for space. My shop is 10'6" wide (3.2M) and I find it narrow/ While you only have a bit over 2M 😬😬 That's tight! Good thing you have the ceiling height.
Hi Andy, I just love to see how other people organise storage, and workshop space, looks like your off to a good start, making use of high areas ,for shelving, it's always a problem moving into a smaller space, I have the same problem, but my biggest headache is what to get rid of,lol. I'm sure after moving workshops several times yourself you might have some ideas we haven't thought of, cheers mate, stay safe, best wishe's to you and your's, Stuart UK.
I am part way through the same workshop sort out after moving. Mine is two side by side single brick garages with up and over doors so not too bad for room on paper, although actual on the ground fitting things in is very different because if you don’t work it through first then everything interferes. It’s a good exercise to do though.
I'm sooo glad that you're doing this. I have the same blocks in my house. The yanks have studs and it's no good for me. I'm using my kids old box room for a work shop. So thanks 😊
I would put the tool wall next to the door, and the work benches by the piping, and the floor based tools under the wood storage, they are easily moved and give a straight run to the door if you need to barrow through 🤔 but do take that with a grain of salt, it is your workshop, not mine 😅
Pretty funny that this got lost in translation for me! LOL I had "garage" in my head as a proper, North American garage. I thought gee, that's pretty small, even for one car! hahaha Turns out it's closer to an appliance garage. Just teasing, it looks so clean and bright. Love new construction. Keep up the good work.
You will not bore me I love watching a well organised person transforming a room gradually you keep the parts coming! Just a note this and another channel Aquaholic are my 2 favourites on You tube keep up the good work.
I'd lose the filter and add a vent on the wall or even the door somewhere. You'll be amazed how much air those greenhouse vents can move, especially in such a small space you can replace all the air in the shop in seconds (including any dust suspended in it). Cheap too.
@@GosforthHandyman I’ve got a 26ft x 8ft workshop and for me part of the enjoyment is getting things sorted out. I’m lucky that I’ve made a 6ft x 3ft mobile work bench with a fixed router in the centre and a Bosch site saw fitted on one end.
Its subjective isn't it! And for a Master of his/her Trade each tool holds memories. The great thing about tight work spaces is everything is to hand and it's impossible to work 'sloppy'; no room for untidiness. Happy new workroom. Tatti bye! 🥰
Hi love your show ! Definitely more videos on you setting up your work Is there any chance of you doing a video on connecting up your dust Collection please ? Regards Matthew
Hi, I saw a video by the wood shop junkies called the ultimate garage storage solutions that I think you could use it your advantage with the hight of the ceiling in the garage. Keep up the excellent work and good luck with the house conversion.
I'd put cupboards up where u plan your tool wall which will give you a 3d space behind your 2d, & if you're clever use both the external & internal door space as wall as well. but that's just me your millage may vary. looks good though.
I think I'd hit my head on them. I've got twin slot down to head height, but I'd love cupboards somewhere at a later date... just to protect stuff from dust! 👍
Yeah, that's kind of the plan 👍😎 - most of the sheet materials have ended up in the shed... but I need to build yet another shed for spare building materials. 😂
Why not keep your workshop and make your garage into your studio. It seems you are going to downsize considerably otherwise. Our garage seemed huge at 19ft x 12ft but by the time it was moved into, space was at a premium.
Doing it back to front the garage at side of house is better for your editing ( your not the bbc) workshop in garden so all the dust and noise is kept out the house
Unfortunatly I cant select Germany in your Shop or any other european country for that matter. Would have loved to get that 8m tapemeasure. Is that a bug or just the EU shinanigans?
Would love to send you one! Sadly the EU removed the lower threshold of VAT registration for goods being sent in to the EU. So we basically have to register for VAT in the EU, which is a massive ballache. On the to-do list to sort though!
You have a lot of tools and a lot of materials to fit into your workshop, but if anyone can put ten pounds of potatoes into a five pound bag, it's you.
As early as possible consider your workshop floor surface Am dealing with rough concrete painted gray. Too rough to mop. Tears up mop. Lack of ventilation - not used for anything involving chemicals. Stains easily (food pantry). Too dirty with chipped paint to expect peel and stick tiles to work. Need to make it look nice and to prevent staining. You will have your own issues arising from your yard and what you make, need to have something you can clean and stand the look of. Hi! Yes, I'll be putting the LED ones in - they're still in the studio. Just got them from Amazon... or might have been eBay. 👍
Do you not have a car?
I would be interested in any workshop fit-out videos that make their way into your channel.
Cool! Nobody puts cars in garages over here. 😁👍
Why not have the workbenches the other side, you’ll have a straight run from the front to back door then.
You could only fit one bench in due to the internal door and the understairs cupboard. 👍
