- THIS IS TO DISCUSS ABOUT STEEL STRUCTURE ERECTION ACTIVITIES INCLUDING THE MAIN STEEL STRUCTURE, PIPE RACK, PLATFORM, LADDER, HANDRAIL, ETC. THE MODIFICATION AND/OR REPARATION DUE TO THE DRAWING UPDATE, SITE INSTRUCTION, MODIFICATION, ETC. ARE COVERED ALSO.
• THE ERECTION OF STRUCTURAL STEELWORK CONSISTS OF THE ASSEMBLY OF STEEL COMPONENTS INTO A FRAME ON SITE. THE PROCESSES INVOLVE LIFTING AND PLACING COMPONENTS INTO POSITION, THEN CONNECTING THEM TOGETHER. GENERALLY THIS IS ACHIEVED THROUGH BOLTING.
STRUCTURAL STEEL-MATERIAL RECEIVING, HANDLING & STORAGE:
TO ENSURE THAT ALL STEEL STRUCTURE MATERIALS REQUIRED FOR CONSTRUCTION WORK SHALL CONFORM TO THE PROJECT SPECIFICATION. AND BY APPLYING APPROVED CONTROL PROCEDURES DESCRIBED HEREIN TO PREVENT THE UNDESIRABLE USE AND TO SET UP THE TRACEABILITY OF THE MATERIALS.
MILL TEST REPORTS FOR THE STRUCTURAL MATERIALS ARE FURNISHED AND VERIFIED TO CONFORM TO THE REQUIREMENTS OF THE APPLICABLE SPECIFICATION. CHECK THAT MATERIALS ARE FROM APPROVED SUPPLIER.
MILL TEST REPORTS SHALL CONFORM TO THE INSPECTION DOCUMENTATION REQUIREMENTS OF EN 10204, TYPE 3.1 AS FOLLOWS:
A) MFG DECLARES THAT THE PRODUCTS SUPPLIED ARE IN COMPLIANCE WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF THE ORDER AND IN WHICH HE SUPPLIES TEST RESULTS.
B) TEST UNIT & TESTS TO BE CARRIED OUT ARE DEFINED BY PRODUCT SPEC, THE OFFICIAL REGULATION & CORRESPONDING RULES AND/OR THE ORDER.
C) THE DOCUMENT IS VALIDATED BY MFG'S AUTHORIZED INSPECTION REP, INDEPENDENT OF THE MANUFACTURING DEPARTMENT.
4. THE STEEL STRUCTURE MATERIALS REQUIRED FOR CONSTRUCTION WORK SHALL NOT BE RELEASED FOR USE UNTIL THAT IT HAS NOT BEEN INSPECTED OR OTHERWISE VERIFIED. ALL THE MATERIALS MUST BE ISSUED WITH PROPER DOCUMENTS AND UPDATED IN THE STOCK INVENTORY SYSTEM.
5. ALL THE RECEIVED STEEL MEMBERS AND SITE CONDITION WILL BE REVIEWED BEFORE ERECTION STARTED. SKILLED WORKERS, PERMITS, VEHICLES, TOOLS, SITE FACILITIES AND OTHER MATERIAL REQUIRED SHALL BE CONFIRMED AS PER PROJECT SAFETY AND QUALITY REQUIREMENTS.

Hi. When recriving material, what is the lab test usually done for the steel material before we use it for fabrication?
When receiving structural materials, we only need to do visual inspection for STC- size type and condition. During final inspection- before releasing materials many NDT or DT need to be performed like- Ut for thickness and lamination check

Most of the cases, Applicable international standard for design, installation and WPS qualification AWS D1.1 Your client might have any special requirements or codes- which is not very often. So, you can say AWS D 1.1 is the Bible. There might be some standard Drawings, PIP (Process Industry practices), project IFC drawings
