Thanks to some helpful commenters, it seems it may still work on some Android devices, but mine (S21) wasn't playing nice. If you're interested in the game on mobile, make sure to check the Google Play store for yourself!
I hate that good games are never ported to mobile. I will definitely look for it! Edit: couldn't find this one, but You must build a boat is on google play, and it's free!!
A tip: in your Android settings, try to find your Android version, usually in "About Device > Software Information". That's usually what Google check if your device is "too new" for an app or not, not the device's model
The funniest part is that the sequel "You Must Build a Boat" will be near the very end of the search results. So, if by some bizarre super miracle, Graeldon makes it to the end of the list, there will be a nice little bookend waiting.
Well, what a change of pace. A game that looks like a bad idea on its surface, but turns out to be a really well-thought-out, well-designed, and well-priced game that manages to hit all the right notes.
For anyone interested in this game, I'd recommend getting "You must build a boat" by the same devs, which is essentially this exact game but improved in pretty much every way.
This one definitely seems like a classic case of "Don't judge a book by its cover." This type of game normally isn't my thing, but I'll keep its existence in mind (Tho it *is* a bit disappointing that the Android version is defunct, as that seems like a perfect place for it).
@@Graeldon I have the same problem. The funny thing is, I have a game that is supposedly "incompatible" with my phone since it was transferred from my old one, and, from my testing, it works perfectly fine. I think it's just some dumb arbitrary thing that Google does for... some reason. (I actually think that's a game you'll eventually get to as well, tho that won't be for... years, as it's a "V" game. Lol)
Weird! I'm still on an S21 at the moment (will upgrade later this year), but it says in the store that the app was made for an older version of android, so I can't download it
I have a game that I'd downloaded on an older phone that was transferred to my current one, and it also is "incompatible" according to Google Play, even though it seems to function perfectly fine. I call BS. Lol. (Game in question is "Void Pyramid." Found this out trying to download another game from the same dev that I'd uninstalled before getting this new phone)
I’m more interested than normal to watch this because it’s the first game on this series I’ve not only played but beaten, so I can see it going either way
What an interesting representation of Lady Luck you have here :D I see I how I could enjoy the game on mobile, or even on PC, while listening to something else. I like the mechanic of scrolling rows and columns they added to a common match-3
Oh this is right up my alley! I doubt I ever would have found it without your channel, so thank you for all your hard work slogging through the mess that is the Steam library. Maybe one day you'll even make it to an actual letter!
I thought this looked familiar, and sure enough it's by the devs that made You Must Build a Boat. I picked that up during the summer sale for cheap and it was a fun little gimmick, and it looks like this is very similar. First time seeing a game I sort of recognize here, keen to see what you think!
@@Graeldon yeah there are definitely a lot of similarities - formula is nearly identical but with a few tweaks to meta progression. Great review as usual, and it's always refreshing when you find something genuinely fun on this journey. Keen for next week's video!
Im actually kind of obsessed with this series like you are going to do EVERY game ?? I will forever have videos to watch as i do work in yhe background
This is the first game in the series I had heard of before you played it; in fact, it’s in my library. I got the code from a humble bundle or something. I played it for a few minutes a decade or so ago.
The score multiplier being 4x might have just been a lazy way to globally adjust the score rather than going to every piece of data and manually applying 4x
That's a good theory! I think that perhaps they felt the initial score was too low and it was demotivating for players because it made the 10,000,000 score look impossible, so players were quitting really early on
@@Graeldon that's it! Well done. Somehow I completely forgot about the boat aspect. I'll look forward to you getting to that one 300 years from now when you hit the Ys
With a bit of a graphical touch up, and some more modes, I could imagine this having been a fairly popular casual game on DS or 3DS back in the day. Tiles on bottom screen, the travel on top. Pull it out for a quick play here and there.
This puzzle system is fairly old, Pokemon Trozei used it as does Puzzle and Dragon. Trozei's also older than your example by 2 years, I forget the name of this style of puzzle but it's even older than Trozei.
Oh hell yeah, ever since this series started I've been waiting for this game! It was one of my very first Steam purchases, and I was in a real match 3 kick at the time, and since RPGs are my favorite genre, it seemed like a great idea to pick it up. I have to say I loved the game from the start, specially once I got the hang of the matching mechanics better. And yes, the soundtrack is A TREAT, I haven't heard it in a hot minute but listening to it in this video has given me a real kick! I remember actually bothering 100%ing the whole game heh I also loved the "sequel" You Must Build a Boat, but then again is pretty much more of the same 😂 Ah yes, and it's indeed much better to experience this game with an interval between sessions XD
The followup game, "You Must Build a Boat" is a great sequel, but considering it begins with the letter Y, I don't think you will get there for a while.
(5:20) Whoops. The game probably shouldn't have even allowed you to "discard" your skeleton key immediately there during the tutorial before you got to where it'd be used. (9:11) Heh, nice. I'm definitely interested in giving 10,000,000 a try myself. I gotta remember to check its price during the next Steam sale. (I really should've checked during the recent Summer Sale. Welp, that's on me.)
I remember this game from a humble bundle or somewhere else I def only played it for like 10 mins and then let it run for 3 hours to earn steam card drops to sell kinda wild times 10 years ago

I'm looking forward to when Graeldon reaches Y and can review the improvements!
I watched a playthrough of you must build a boat, really liked it. Had no idea about this one
That is so sad can we get 10 000 000 likes?

I think they evolved the basic match 3 mechanics in a clever way that works well for the fast paced game design

If we discover the secret to eternal life, reincarnation or de-aging in the next 50 years then I think we'll be okay.
One more game, and then you will need to find over 5002 various hidden animals, objects, and creatures! Muahaha!
I'm actually already playing through them! Over 2000 hidden things found already
